This game demo began to shine more once you leveled up and got to more skills. A quick run is just a basic cover shooter. It’s way more engaging when you begin to skill up and try out the skill tree. I am hopefully optimistic
@themightyant Warframe is very grindy and the RNG goddess can be a cruel deity. But it’s one of the more fun games out there with the free-to-play. The movement is spectacular and the “frames” are fun. It can be as complex and theorycrafty as you want it to be. I get back to it from time to time, but I tend to avoid the heavy RNG grindy games anymore.
As much as I would enjoy having a PS5 at launch, this is why I wait for the next release set. Get all those kinks out of the system and more peripherals. Hang in there early explorers!
I couldn’t get in on the presale, but I’ll grab one once the next grouping comes out. Sackboy sounds like a fun time and Demon Souls sounds like torturous “soulsborne” fun. The Pathless looks intriguing as well.
I hope the load times are improved. I just recently finished this game (minus the post story stuff) and it acts really dated (slow load times, janky character bugs, etc). The best part of Days Gone is Sam Witwer. If not for him, I probably would have never finished the game.
@theheadofabroom Same. Ubisoft is off my gaming list for now. I’m sure there are good people working for them, but I can’t support a company like that. I hope they get to a healthier place.
@nessisonett Well, Ubisoft making games with the rioters waving flags with the BLM fist and your task is to take them down isn’t happening daily with companies world-wide. Ubisoft might be “trying” to fix their toxic company, but for me, they have a very long way to go. I will no longer support them until they prove they’ve taken the long road to fix their top-down toxic work culture and practices.
@Matroska That was also over a decade ago. Times change and being a woman gamer, it’s a tired trope and newer data doesn’t support the claim that male characters sell more. No one is taking Kratos and making a female option, though. There is a time and place for female leads just as for male leads (Jin Sakai). I’ve always preferred building my own character, mostly. But then I never leave the character building section (especially JRPG!) and I will neither confirm nor deny that I’ve restarted a game multiple times after not liking the character I built
@Octane I would like to see more games in the future have that sense of realism as well. After playing TLOU2 with it’s full on realism and crazy detailed physics, I would like to see more games move in this direction. It’s not a dealbreaker, by any means, but if the technology can offer it up, why not?
The sound design, for me, was like another character. The music, the intensity of the sound as enemies were looking your way, the crunch of glass, or the tinkle of a wind chime, the sound of gun fire and explosions, people’s voices and breathing, footprints, doors creaking, all add to the level of immersion. This game deserves a big award in sound design.
@Crimson_Ridley Especially since we don’t even know the full story of TLOU 2 yet. It’s like bashing a movie before you even see it. People just like to complain too much these days. Choose your battles, man. There are bigger and more important things to apply your energy to, especially these days, than creating petitions about the direction of a video game. A. Video. Game. TLOU is one of my favorite games and I’m looking forward to joining Ellie on her journey; no matter which direction it takes—kind of like life, ya know?
@LiamCroft Great SoapBox and you hit all the marks for me. I played this originally on the PS3 and then 3 more times on the PS4 with the remaster. And I agree with some other gamers here—once you get to play as Ellie, the game is in full throttle and the storytelling ramps up. That’s when I fell in love with her character. I can’t wait for Friday.
I’m excited to hear this. I played this game heavily. I hope they keep the combat the same. The only thing I can remember being a little off was the camera at times. But really, this game was pretty dense with good lore and a fun story and world to explore. Really underrated.
@Skoda You might be confusing game genre with actual gameplay. Heavy narrative story driven games have been around, but not like TLOU and the Uncharted games. Naughty Dog set that bar. But I’m referring to playing the characters, you know, as in a video game. How they move, how you navigate the environments, how you accomplish your goals, what equipment do I need, etc. You play as the protagonist, which is an experience you lose completely by “watching it as a movie.” Watching has no consequences for your action. Sounds like you don’t care to play this genre, which is fine. To each their own. But it is a video game, not a movie.
@Skoda And you do realize the gameplay for TLOU is 7 years old. Many games have since copied that style. I would imagine TLOU2 gameplay will be upgraded significantly. Someone bribe @get2sammyb and get him to tell us NOW!
@get2sammyb “I actually haven’t tried leaving someone and sparing them...” You brute! But probably the same way I will play it. Thanks for the tease. I can’t wait to play this, but sounds super intense.
As long as I don’t have to fail 20-30 times to learn all the tells of each of the 100 different enemy types like Sekiro I will say, the 18 min play video looks amazing. I am looking forward to this.
Very nice summary. My friend and I were just trying to remember it all last night. We remembered most of it, but forgot how Joel lost Ellie to the Fireflys at the hospital.
To the person that leaked the spoilers, “Pretty selfish of you and you are not above reproach. Shame on you.” I haven’t seen/read them, so I don’t know them, but I can guess. To the people that are surprised TLOU 2 is a revenge story, must’ve never watch the first teaser trailer when Ellie is playing the guitar. She says it right there.
@kyleforrester87 NA NA NA! * hands covering ears * I'm not listening!
I've had to retrain my brain on this game, as I love to explore (which this game is great for!) but I found myself in a rather challenging place, with most dreadful of enemies, handing me a thorough bashing, until I finally realized I had gone to an area better served with additional skills. Ah, gotta love a game that doesn't make it so linear you are gift-handed every mission. And the SoulsBorne-esque playstyle is right what I needed.
People get upset about a 10/10 review rating for some odd reason. Hmmm, there are plenty of 10/10 games out there that I don't like or don't fit my style, so why would that make the game any less good? A 10/10 rating doesn't mean everyone will like it; it means the reviewer ( @LiamCroft excellent review, written well ) finds the game exceptional.
I mean, I'd be a terrible reviewer since I don't finish enough games
I think Sony could help by actually organizing the PS Store a lot better. It's really a cluster that's not sorted or designed very well and it would be nice to have the options to search by developer/studio/publisher, release date, and game types. It's a pain to go sifting through pages and pages of games looking for something I might like outside the AAA games.
I do pick up some fun indie games when they go on sale--now to find the time to play them!
@Stocksy The story was okay. I enjoyed it, but there wasn't a lot of depth to Iden and it needed more story. I did like the best part on Jakku--flying about and landing to do ground missions. That felt more immersive. I like Iden and her storyline and I hope they continue on where it left off.
@JJ2 I still play SWBF 2. Some of the new additions have been really fun. And the new co-op mode lets you level up gear/cards as well. It's a good place to work on some hero stuff or to upgrade those special vehicles and troopers. DICE still sucks are balancing, but they eventually get it. If SWBF 3 is a combination of 1 & 2, I'll be really happy. SWBF 1 was so much faster than 2. I'd like to see some of that brought back in.
@FullbringIchigo Yeah, but history isn't telling every person's story. They can easily choose to use characters from that time that don't have a direct impact on historical events, but they exist in the time those events happened.
I have a feeling TLOU 2 will be setting the bar pretty high for storytelling. I'm excited to see how Death Stranding does as well. I think it's exciting times for all us--zero load screen times while in game (which exists now), more adapt storytelling, deep graphical and audio immersion, etc.
I'm sure the PS5 will finally make me get a bigger 4K TV
I'm not sure they would want to lose the marketing power of the Playstation Now's pure selling point of playing the older games. For me, I'd like the PS4 games to play more, as those are the ones I don't want to lose the ability to play. But, playing the retro games would be nice. I still have my PS3, so I can still switch between them, but my library of PS4 games far surpasses any I have for the PS3--especially on the digital side.
Bloodborne is my favorite of the series. I liked the speed of the combat much better and the environments are amazing. BB just fits my play style better for sure.
