And also to keep me going Xbox are just being super consumer friendly. Sony so far this generation don’t deserve the loyalty and love they are getting from some customers.
Or Nintendo, you can buy the console solo or with a bundled separate physical game and get £10 off and it’s physical so you can re sale the game.
And Sony can’t do this instead of forcing poor gamers and parents into buying a boxed console and game bundle so they can have a PS5 and the dam game being digital. So bad for consumers and to think last generation with the PS4 Sony were the consumer hero. See what power and Sony being at the top does to them.
@Neonix Correct though that has changed now to FIFA 23 bundles. Clever Sony marketing. You can have a PS5 but only bundled with a digital game. Sony playing clever but very mean to gamers this generation. Also when a game is bundled with a console, even though the game is digital it is counted as a physical game sale in the UK game charts.
The good ole Sony couldn’t be more cunning or clever, depends how you see it.
@GamingFan4Lyf Compared to the usual in the UK it is a quiet COD release. I think it is because there are no PS5 consoles really available in stores and none of the PS5 COD bundles about at all. Plus they will have a massive GOW console bundle and advertising in early November.
Total low key release for COD this year in the UK I know on PlayStation Direct they had few COD special console bundles sold out now. But in the general shops nothing at all with the PS5 special bundle like there was for FIFA 23. I’m guessing they are saving consoles for the GOW special console bundle in early November.
Normally Xbox do a counter move with say a series s and x with the game added at a reduced price or for free like FIFA, but nothing for COD.
@Titntin Let’s hope so on the Sony front but time will tell for 2023. Think Nintendo will drop something probably Pikmin 4 and finger crossed a new Mario platform game as it’s the Movie next year. Microsoft, only the gods know the answer to that one 😂👾
@Titntin Totally agree about effective management I’m one myself but in the aerospace engineering industry. Yes Playground games FH5 showed this and I’m sure Turn 10 and the coalition will do. I would say currently on this year 2022 it has been one of Microsoft’s weaknesses for sure. Next year will tell for me if they can pump quality AAA games out as promised. I think Sony will continue to produce these massive production games, but maybe with more thought before deciding to embark on such big productions. I think next year there will be just the one Spider man 2 with main focus on PSVR 2. As for my current playtime friends Nintendo we will get one BOTW2 and you never know with N maybe another.
@Titntin Do you think high production games like HFW, GOW and next years Spider man 2 will start to become less frequent? The high production values are of course second to none and an amazing achievement, but with costs and time taken etc and the sort of change that’s in the air are they going to become less the normal than we have been used during the PS3 and PS4 days.
Imagine a pure high production value game just for PS5 technology used to its near maximum, yes amazing in all areas, but effort, cost and time probably staggering.
Goes to show two things to me with these new consoles. How much messy around the developers need to do. How not that powerful the consoles are. Favour resolution that probably won’t be native 4K at 40fps. Not so much the amazing next generation as I think power to graphics display and fps is levelling out a bit. Also this is a PS4 game so it probably held back the PS5 graphics assets wise as well.
It’s all about advertising and PR marketing making it look like PlayStation only. Like it or not Sony are very good at marketing this way like with COD and FIFA.
It’s really interesting this generation how the largest game company in the world Sony is being the most tightest both purchasing cost wise and and playing catch up on certain services with the other two. Clearly the massive success of the PS4 and probably not wanting to give anything away and tighter budgets have all contributed to this. I guess we lucky they budget those big top end AAA games of theirs still. But it will probably more interesting moving at some point to the next generation and seeing what happens. Those returns on investment for big budget AAA will definitely be under scrutiny at head office with the penny counters.
@__jamiie I do sometimes get the hump that we have not moved fully new generation yet. I’m old school when a new generation meant a new generation. But, the world has changed from long ago, and the cost of making these massive AAA games must be staggering and it’s all about return on investment and business.
@Titntin No I’m sticking to my guns Sony are gone for me. I don’t get as much time as I used to gaming wise as well. Catching up with Switch at the minute playing Splatoon 3 when I get the time. Being honest enjoying it more than I thought I would.
@Titntin I think you and me disagree on this but I still think the series s could potentially hold the series x back. I mean I’m not as knowledgeable as you but if a developer made a game purely on the series x no holding back surely it has the potential to better than having to consider the series s if you are developing from the very beginning a game just for series x.
We can all see it coming down the line. So let’s just do it now and release The PlaystionSeries Z console and get it out the way. Just like we have different makes of TV and radios etc but they all receive broadcasts etc.
The one I see independent say like sky q tv is Nintendo.
@Dr_Luigi Yes money and return on investment is definitely starting to mold this new generation for sure. Bringing along, longer than normal cross generation titles and pc ports in mind.
@Titntin Thank you for you reply. It would such a shame if at some point these consoles didn’t use their full potential of the ssd and throughput speed etc due to potential pc port limitations. They were basically sold with demos of all this speed and what that would bring to graphical world game etc.
Sometimes I look at my switch, and think you may have the least power but you are some simple and wholesome.
@Dr_Luigi So I guess they have these consoles with all the super smart tech and the idea is if you take full advantage of that spec you get the best results. If you have to consider pc requirements that are lower spec like no ssd etc, you will never take full advantage of the PS5 architecture.
I guess the targets have changed since the older generations and it’s more about how many types of system you can get your game on to maximise the return on game development costs.
@Titntin You are probably best to answer the below
Someone please answer this. How can a PS5 or even series x game take full advantage of the ssd drives, when released on pc when they have to take into account that the pc may not have an ssd drive?
Someone please answer this. How can a PS5 or even series x game take full advantage of the ssd drives, when released on pc when they have to take into account that the pc may not have an ssd drive?
There has been more twists and turns this generation from Sony and Microsoft than I have ever known from all other generations combined. What a PR world we live in.
So after all that fuss at the start of this generation. It looks like Xbox and their studios will be releasing new generation only games first that should take full advantage, we hope 😂 Redfall, Starfield and Forza, all maybe next year.
@UltimateOtaku91 Totally agree, we don’t want an Xbox dry spell. They won’t have a dry spell that long Sony they manage their studios very well. And yes Sony do get organised paying for third party AAA exclusives like Forspoken. I was not having a go at Sony AAA in house studios, I was just saying they will probably have a dry spell 2023.
I have feeling next year PS5 wise it will be PSVR2 mainly, if you like that sort of thing. And I can’t think of another big Sony studio AAA arriving in 2023 apart from Spider-Man 2 hopefully if it makes 2023. Will be one of those quiet years me thinks, every company has one in each generation in house studio AAA wise.
Well deserved, even more so considering other developers have not released much this year. Amazing game to play and beautiful exploration. Hopefully number three will be PS5 only and show us what these developers can do.
Sony not getting it all its own way this generation, but they have asked for some of it due to businesses decisions. Last weeks sales Nintendo took USA, PS5 second with Xbox only 2k behind. PS5 took Europe but wow it’s a lot closer than it used to be. And of course we know Nintendo is king in Japan by about 80K. I just hope Sony don’t self harm themselves to much.
PS5 is currently my most played console and sometimes I do think Sony bring things on themselves. Console price increase Expensive games Size of console(important in Japan) Console shortages
PS5 is doing great overall worldwide, but they really need to get a bit more customer focused or friendly. They have the Switch to left of them doing very well and seems to keep going on and on. Then to the right, a trillion dollar company having a right go at the Sony market share and being so customer friendly it’s like getting cuddles 😂 and buying up studios all over the show.
I just hope Sony don’t do a TV thing, once top dog and now third to Samsung and LG sales wise, because that would seriously effect their amazing AAA single player game output I think.
@AdamNovice Some very good points there. Does make me wonder apart from PSVR2, what will we have for in house big AAA games wise for 2023. Could be a bit quiet for them next year, who knows.
