It doesn't seems to be a bad update, but when people need to wait six months for a new firmware update, they expect a lot more.
Sony needs to up their game in this regard. Updates should arrive every two to three months max.
I don't know if the the firmware team has five people or something like that, but more resources need to be spent on this.
Is full cross-play confirmed? They said that Dirt 5 also had it but it was not even possible to invite friends from other platforms in that game. It only served to fill random lobbies faster.
This is the initial support, it seems. On the Discord blog:
"We’re excited to continue our partnership with PlayStation and explore how we can collectively create great shared experiences for your friends and communities."
This as pretty much expected, no? Factions will be one. Twisted Metal too. I bet the game from Jade Raymond will be as well.
At least so far looks like Sony isn't moving their "traditional" studios to do that (besides Naughty Dog, but even they already confirmed that multiple projects are in the works)
Didn't Sony renewed their COD contract back in 2020 when the new generation arrived? I'm pretty sure that Modern Warfare 2019 was the last game of that 2015- contract. But Warzone, Cold War and Vanguard still had marketing from Sony.
Just better third parties and indies than what they have been adding to Plus would already be enough for me. Microsoft has been killing with third party releases straight to Game Pass, Sony needs to run after those deals as well.
It's probably related with the contract Polyphony has with FIA. GT Sport required an awalys online connection because it was Polyphony's only way to see if qualifying times users made for championships (which are officially approved by FIA) were not modified in any way.
They could make two different modes for GT7, one offline and one online, but I think a lot of people would complain that playing online doesn't add XP and money for the offline one, and vice versa.
This would likely result in termination of the contract if we were seeing the Sony of the PS1 and PS2 era.
Even though the contract was made directly with MLB, it is a bad joke how amateurish Sony PR is. To the point of the entire industry already being sure who treats their consumers well, and who does not.
@Oscarjpc - Yes, I know that there are still those who buy PS3 games, but realistically speaking, it must be less than 10% of PS4 and PS5 owners. Sony must have these numbers, and are taking those actions based on that.
What pisses me off the most is that Sony has not yet made any effort to bring these games to the PS5.
It's a shame, but I doubt that it will affect the general public, even more that the games will still be downloadable. I doubt that most PS4 and PS5 owners have purchased several PS3 games in recent years.
Just to remember that Mediatonic is part of Tonic Game Group, a group with more than 250 employees (aiming to have more than 400 in the coming years). Epic bought the whole Tonic Game Group, and not just the Fallguys studio.
Sony just need to stop to announce games so early. That God Of War reveal in 2020 was extremely unnecessary if they already knew that wouldn't show any more of the game in the next 6 to 8 months.
Lance McDonald (a famous Souls modder that has some friends in the industry) said early this week that Sony actually gives the tools needed to make cross-saves happen.
I know that I might be the only one, but I'm starting to get tired of seeing that everyone and everything needs to have an opinion or need to make a statement about all the issues that are happening in the world, whether it's good or bad. I don't see any problem if a Sony executive or employee talks about these matters, but it is a bummer to see that they as a company are obliged to say something.
If they keep doing this, they will end up in a complicated situation for them like having to speak of the China government or something like that.
It's kind of sad to see that the public will not react well if it's not a new AAA-GOTY contender.
And it's also funny to see that everyone complained that Sony was announcing its games very early. And now that they've stopped with that, people complain that they do not have anything to announce.
I liked it, but hopefully in the next, they advertise in advance if it will be focused on VR, PS4, PS5 and etc and tell how long it lasts (I saw a lot of people complaining that they thought it would last more than 2h).
It really missed something big, but I think it would be a mistake to show more of The Last Of Us 2, Death Stranding and Ghost Of Tsushima if it is not to announce the release date.
I'm starting to think that Sony will need to open/buy some studios to get enough content for years to come.
I'm the only one who thinks they will do exactly the same thing from previous years, but now with the "keynote" happening on a day before?
They're going to show some trailers for already announced games, probably show some new indies, maybe announce some dates for 2018, call a few guests on stage (like Tim Schafer in the last few years) and announce some new games, which are likely to be 3rd party games, since all of Sony's studios are currently busy.
I would not be surprised to see anything related to the Resident Evil 2 Remake, announcement of the Crash Team Racing Remake or something like this type of games.
Remembering that they have already confirmed that they will show more of Dreams, Ghost Of Tsushima, and The Last Of Us Part II.

Re: State of Play Announced, Featuring 30 Minutes of Gran Turismo 7 PS5 Gameplay
Damn, so many disrespect for Sony's biggest IP.
Re: SIUUU! FIFA, PES Competitor UFL Signs Cristiano Ronaldo on PS5, PS4
An football game with a good Pro Clubs Mode (11x11) with cross-play would be more enough for me.
Re: PS5 Screenshot, Video Captures Being Slowly Integrated into the PS App Worldwide
Looks like Sony rolled back. I guess it might arrive in a official form this week still.
Re: Sony Responds to Activision Blizzard Buyout, Expects Games to Still Come to PS5, PS4

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Realistically Expect from PS5, PS4's Game Pass Inspired PS Plus Reboot?
I don't care much about older/retro games. More big third party/indie releases would the thing that adds value to me.
Games like The Pathless, Kena, Sifu, Stray and so on releasing Day One in a service would be really, really nice.
Re: Soapbox: How Discord Will Change the Way We Play PS5, PS4 Together in 2022
I'm really looking forward to it because of cross-play. It's horrible to use the voice-chat that some games provide, and there are few.

Re: Fanatec's Official Gran Turismo 7 Racing Wheel Revealed, Prices Start from $700
That price is actually kinda low for a high spec racing wheel these days. Fanatec's official F1 wheel costs almost €2K (for the wheel alone).
Re: Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone Reveal Coming This Thursday
Isn't this rumored to be Free To Play?
Re: Rumour: Destruction AllStars Dev at the Wheel for New Twisted Metal Game
Well, job listings on Lucid's website mentions that they're working in a new game for a "world-leading platform holder".
Here's some elements of the game (that now we know it's TM)

Re: Alan Wake Remastered Listed for PS5, PS4 Release on 5th October
Isn't Oct. 5th the day that PS Plus games will be added?
Re: Talking Point: How Would You Improve PS Plus?
Definitely more/better games and more features. Unlimited cloud save and cloud space for videos and screenshots would also be welcome.
Re: There's Talk of New Twisted Metal and WipEout Games for PS5
Andy Robinson from VGC also said that he heard some rumors about a new Twisted Metal
Re: PES Renamed eFootball, Confirmed to Be Free-to-Play
@Mepics - So far yes. They said that some new modes are planned to be sold as DLCs. So people can buy only the modes they are interested in.
Re: Rumour: PS Plus June 2021 Line-Up Leaked Ahead of Time
Both Operation Tango and Virtua Fighter would release in the service, by the way.
Re: Rumour: Another 'Major' PS5 Exclusive Final Fantasy Game Will Be Announced at E3
Another user said on that thread that it will be a game on a new genre/style for the series... So an musou or souls-like game.
Re: PS5 Firmware Update 21.01-03.00.00.38 Is Available to Download Now
Looks like there's a lot of features, such as the possibility to turn off HDR on games/apps that don't support it.

Re: Soapbox: There's a Nintendo Direct Today, But I Wish We Had a State of Play to Look Forward To
I would like to have more news, but I think that saving everything for a big stream around the E3 season (June/July) is a good strategy.
I just hope that Sony actually delivers when whatever they decide to do an event. Their silence builds up hype.
Re: PSN Down for Some PS5, PS4 Players
It wasn't just PSN that went off the air for a few minutes... Steam, XBL, Origin and etc. also went down for some people.
Re: God of War Ragnarok Dev Already Hiring for Next Game
I think they're already working on another game, alongside GOW Ragnarok. One of their directors confirmed that the team is expanding:

Re: PS5 Upgrades God of War with Up to 60FPS Support
I mean, that was pretty much certain since all PS4 saves work on PS5 via BC and God Of War already had an uncapped frame rate option on PS4 Pro.
Re: PS4 Firmware Update 8.00 Available to Download Today
The new party system is a disaster. Who the hell think that was a good idea?

AC: Valhalla is confirmed as well. Rainbow Six Seige too if I'm not mistaken.
Re: Destruction AllStars Brings Vehicular Carnage to PS5
Just a note: It's been developed by a team that worked on the PGR Series on Xbox

Re: PlayStation Fans Fidgety as Control, The Last Guardian Devs Pick Epic Over Sony
It seems to align with the strategy of not caring much about exclusives that Sony is clearly heading into to.
Re: Reaction: State of Play Can and Will Be Great Assuming Sony Sticks with It
It's kind of sad to see that the public will not react well if it's not a new AAA-GOTY contender.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play Livestream?
Oh, and the reactions from this stream explain very well why Sony likes to spend months and months without saying anything.
