Re: Round Up: Baldur's Gate 3 Reviews Suggest It's One of the Best RPGs Ever Made

GeeEssEff

I could not be more excited for this. Especially as some of my pc mates are already playing and raving about it. That does bring up one of the dampeners for me though…the fact there’s no cross play with PC. Hopefully it’s something that gets added further down the line but I do appreciate it’s a big enough and difficult enough game to develop without adding stuff like that. cough split screen cough

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 PS5, PS4 Details Are Leaking Everywhere

GeeEssEff

I have bought every COD since MW1 (the original) and each year I notice myself getting bored of them sooner. I used to play them near daily for 12 months right up until the new instalment but they have just stopped keeping my interest. They are also so hit and miss year on year with the misses seeming to come more regularly in recent years.

Considering I haven’t picked up MW2 since around March time and deleted it off the hard drive to free up the 5000gb it uses I will potentially miss this year for the first time if it’s just a rehash…..maybe I’m finally growing out of the obsessive need to get destroyed by kids half my age with twice the reaction speed.

Re: EA Sports FC Reportedly Set for 29th September Release

GeeEssEff

@Dudditz09 haha I didn’t give any thought to what FUT might be called this year. EASFCUT doesn’t really have the same ring to it

But yours sounds like a similar story to me. I say every year I’m not gonna buy it, always do, sink hours and hours into FUT, get frustrated and go back intermittently through the year until the next iteration.

Re: Microsoft's $69 Billion Activision Deal Approved by the EU Commission

GeeEssEff

@EVIL-C lol the irony of you calling anyone else a fanboy…brilliant. I hate to break it to you but no matter what your ex girlfriends might have told you size does indeed matter. The acquisition of ABK is a big deal. It’s not a small studio with a few indie games out. It’s an absolute juggernaut and therefore you can’t just pretend it’s the same as every other gaming acquisition. Regardless you have kind of shot yourself in the foot anyway because it’s well documented that Xbox actually owns more studios than PlayStation. I can only find a list of MS acquisitions rather than Xbox specific but if you were to go through them I think you’d find the actual numbers are pretty similar

Re: Rumours About PS5 Exclusive Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, and Castlevania Send the Web Potty

GeeEssEff

@Peach64 I think remakes from the PS2/PS3 era have a place in current gaming. They bring amazing games to a younger audience who didn’t play them 15 years ago and push the nostalgia button for older gamers like myself. I would however agree that some of the “remakes” of games that are less than a decade old are pointless and I would still probably prefer new IPs or new sequels in franchises such as MGS.

Re: Concrete Genie Developer PixelOpus Is Shutting Down

GeeEssEff

@Sakisa You know you don’t have to look down on people with certain tastes in games. Your opinion is not better than theirs it is just different and holds absolutely no higher value. The disdain you show for fans of Sony’s AAAs suggests you have endless time to try a variety of different games but out in the real world people have jobs, families and commitments. Your standard casual gamer doesn’t read up on the deep cuts on gaming websites so if they can only play a handful of games a year it’s going to be your God of Wars, Horizons or Ratchets because they show off the technology that they have spent £450-£500 on. It doesn’t make them wrong, it certainly doesn’t make you better, it makes everyone human. Get over yourself.

Re: Soapbox: PS Plus Might Be Gaming's Best Subscription Service Now

GeeEssEff

If gamepass could get the day one releases right it would be better in my opinion but as it stands it’s throwing out 5s, 6s and 7s which make zero impact. PlayStation is adding older but on average higher quality games month on month (obviously comes down to subjective opinion but metacritic averages would probs back me up).

If I was completely new to gaming and bought both systems with a subscription I would have more fun with PS Plus extra. I’m not though and I do buy a lot of day one releases so if Xbox could get their act together I would prefer gamepass.

Re: Soapbox: I No Longer Think Subscriptions Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are the Future of Gaming

GeeEssEff

Great article. I see subscription services as a compliment to my game library rather than a replacement for it. New additions to PS plus each month is something to look forward to and have only been getting better and better over the last 6 months.

I can absolutely live with first party games not being added day one because usually the quality of them warrants the day one purchase but if I’m on the fence I know that chances are they will be added eventually.

Re: Activision Blizzard Boss Bobby Kotick Warns Billion Dollar Buyout Saga Ain't Over

GeeEssEff

@Tharsman why is every Xbox fan obsessed with exclusive content and the delusion it’s only Sony that purchase it? it’s like your running out of things to be hypocritical about. An exclusive costume or gun camo is not going to be the reason someone buys a game on one console or another. And even if it was it was Microsoft, not Sony, who opened the door to this crap with cod back in the 360 days. They did it first now Sony do it better…..get over it.

Re: Microsoft Dealt Major Blow as UK Blocks Activision Buyout

GeeEssEff

@Total_Weirdo not to worry mate! You said on Tuesday something to the effect of “sony have ten years to make a cod alternative with their AAA studios”…. By that logic surely with Microsoft’s superior resources and number of studios they can knock one out in 3-5 years. You will be playing “Duty is Calling” on gamepass by 2027 absolutely no doubt in my mind.

Re: EA Play's EA Sports PGA Tour PS5 Trial Has Teed Off

GeeEssEff

@Member_the_game haha completely get that mate. It’s not in the most obvious place. If I remember rightly you have to find the game in the store, open the different versions and then there’s an EA access trial version. It took me a while to find it.

Re: PS4 Firmware Update 10.50 Available to Download Now

GeeEssEff

I had some jittering shortly after updating but nothing major….bugs aside the update is a step in the right direction but give PS5 something game changing like Xbox’s quick resume. It really is one of the standout current gen features and feels like it should be a staple across the board.

Re: Analysts Expect PS5 to Extend Lead on Xbox Series X|S in 2023

GeeEssEff

@TheGrizMan PureXbox don’t fanboy? Are we looking at the same site? I’d argue PushSquare has got more fanboyish recently as a direct response to near daily anti Sony rhetoric PureXbox have been pushing since they first opposed the ABK acquisition. And the comments.…..Wow is there some toxic stuff to be found there

Re: Analysts Expect PS5 to Extend Lead on Xbox Series X|S in 2023

GeeEssEff

@Member_the_game I’m on EE and never knew about the gamepass thing. Will look into that today thanks! And completely agree. I picked up a series x in preparation of the Bethesda game windfall but last year I pretty much only played forza horizon and the 30 minutes of Halo it took to realise how crap it is. This year I have gone to the back catalogue a bit more because none of the recent point and click adventure releases interest me but still my time split between PS and Xbox is 90:10.

I think people whinging about Fanboy reactions on here need to spend a few minutes on PureXbox comment sections. Pay particular attention to any of the 50 Phil Spencer puff pieces they put out per day due to lack of actual gaming news. It’s way worse.

Re: Sony Cuts PSVR2 Launch Sale Estimates by Half, New Report Claims

GeeEssEff

I bought a PSVR 3 years into its lifecycle and was blown away by the experience but even then it still felt like more of a gimmick than something which would actually challenge the gaming status quo.

PSVR2 looks incredible and the launch lineup seems pretty impressive but as countless have said before it’s a big financial commitment even for the true enthusiasts once you factor in that you need to buy the software as well. I am waiting to see if they are able to transition from the fun but gimmicky experiences of the last generation into fully fleshed out games and will maybe pick it up in a few years if it doesn’t die a death due to low adoption.
