Re: RGG Studio Working on New Games That Aren't Yakuza or Judgment

Golem25

These guys have never put out a bad game (inb4 Dead Souls, I Platted it and it's not bad) so whatever they are working on, it's getting bought.

Honestly, RGG Studio is one of the very, very few developers left in the industry that you as a consumer can buy on day 1 without having to worry about horrible glitches, exploitative microtransactions, or other such inconveniences. God bless this lot.

Re: Unsurprisingly, the GTA Trilogy Is Getting Review Bombed on PS5, PS4

Golem25

So, people have legitimate grievances with a product they paid for, and in response to this situation the best the usual suspects can come up with (across various sites) to describe said scorned consumers is;

'Entitled'
'Pathetic'
'Worthless'

And so on, and so on. Get some new material, for God's sake. No sympathy, no empathy at all.

Re: GTA Trilogy Adds Iconic 90s Cheat Big Head Mode

Golem25

Devs, please, the base games are horrific enough on its own.

Honestly, the trilogy deserved so much better than this two bit studio pushing out the laziest of reskins on a shoestring budget. It's incredible how brazen they were. I'm sticking to the PS2 versions that were available for PS4 previously - Rockstar was kind enough to give advanced warning of them being pulled from the store so I could still grab them.

I'll play this butchered set of remasters when a discount of at least 75% has been applied. Pre-owned physical copy in 2024, here I come.

Re: Round Up: Battlefield 2042 Reviews Share Early PC Impressions

Golem25

Reviews don't necessarily have to be paid for; publications like IGN and Gamespot (as well as smaller firms) are at least partially reliant on ad money, early access codes, previews, and other perks from publishers. Those are invaluable, more so than a one-time lump sum for a review - imagine if you were the only one in your field not to be able to run stories about a closed beta or some such event, for instance.

The whole Gerstmann / Kane & Lynch debacle is perhaps the best example of the insidious and frankly unhealthy financial relationship that many gaming publications and publishers share - the former want ad money, the latter good press/reviews, with both these desires naturally steering both parties into a mutually beneficial relationship. As long as this dynamic continues to exist, there will be a degree of doubt - no matter how unfounded it may be - and thus I think it's very fair for @KundaliniRising333 and others to be distrustful of reviews from critics. I myself have long stopped putting faith in them, and really only pay attention to Famitsu (thanks to its excellent 4-man review system) and user reviews.

Re: Round Up: Battlefield 2042 Reviews Share Early PC Impressions

Golem25

Never heard of Stevivor but they seem like the only outlet featured in this list to have the guts to call the game out. Hardcore Gamer and Attack of The Fanboy have pretty scathing critiques but still commit to a 7 and an 8 respectively. The latter especially reads like they had a gun pointed at their heads.

'... an excellent foundation for the game to build on going forward.'

Meanwhile the rest of the review has gems like 'a little spread too thin' and 'a mixed bag' - yet the game is still an 8/10, seemingly because it promises potentially good support going forward. Bizarre.

EDIT; this, so far, has been the best review I've seen for the game despite being in-progress. You'll need about an hour to get through it though - https://www.ausgamers.com/features/read/3638363

Re: GTA Trilogy Gameplay Shared Online

Golem25

I am so glad I got the 'old' versions off the PSN store before they were removed. I'm sure the controls are nicer on the new ones, but this looks like such a minimal upgrade (along with the Fisher Price graphics) that the pricetag just becomes laughable.

These games deserved a more thorough overhaul. Instead they got the least amount of effort required to slap that 'Definitive' sticker on the cover.

Re: Take-Two Scraps Hangar 13 Game, Writes Off $53 Million

Golem25

Good, Hangar 13 have produced absolutely nothing of value from inception onward so I have no doubt this cringey concept was shot down for being more of the same. Mafia 3 was an absolute shambles at launch and even after myriad patches it is still one of the most soulless, trite games in recent memory. And one of the Trophies is still glitched, for crying out loud - testament to how poor this lot are from a technical perspective.

The remake of the original was a quick cashgrab, and that spy-themed game set in Berlin they were working on also got thrown in the trash because it wasn't up to snuff. 2K made a big mistake in gutting 2K Czech after (or perhaps even during) development of Mafia 2 and instead pumping funds into this miserable new studio. Could have continued to have Daniel Vávra at the helm of the Czech outfit but instead we have Haden Blackman continuing to plough a sinking ship into one iceberg after another.

Re: Talking Point: Did You Enjoy Sony's Latest State of Play Livestream?

Golem25

Not really... that We Are OFK rubbish was the definite lowpoint among a slew of otherwise uninteresting-looking titles. I think the crowd that would care for OFK and the crowd that owns a PS5 does not overlap.

Also, PS Plus title First Class Trouble is so obviously an early access game trying to ride Among Us' coattails, it's a bit embarrassing.

Free Bugsnax DLC was the highlight.

Re: NFL QB Tom Brady Is Still MVP in Battlefield 2042

Golem25

The Brady bit is hilarious, but otherwise the marketing for this game is awful. I thought we left this lolsorandom and edgy nonsense back in the 2010's, but here I see a bunch of guys shooting from atop a tuktuk, people wingsuit-ing out of cars, etc. in what one would expect to be a serious military shooter.

Re: Saints Row Gameplay Shows Combat and Chaotic Cop Chases

Golem25

They might claim not to be affected by all the backlash from entitled babies, but I somehow doubt they would be releasing all this blatantly unfinished footage if the reveal had been met with applause.

They're sweating, and it just makes the game look even less appealing.

Re: Madden NFL 22 Adds Tottenham Hotspur Content Ahead of the London Games

Golem25

Would have loved to see the Jets play but I can't justify the pricetag. Never mind that I wouldn't want to be caught dead in London.

The Venn diagram overlap of American Football fans and Spurs can't be especially massive, so I don't understand why Tiburon would add this to the game - apart from the usual dearth of creativity on their side leading to this kind of nonsense, of course. At least the stadium itself represents a nice addition, butI'd prefer if they invested some time in making Trophies in '22 (and earlier games) unlock properly.

Re: Battlefield 2042 Now Supports Dual Entitlement Digitally on PS5

Golem25

EA expired the free next-gen upgrade offer for Madden 21 on the day of Madden 22's release.

I made it a point to get a used copy earlier that week, claim the upgrade, and then return it. EA hasn't seen a cent from me since Burnout 3 (everything I've played of them since has been used or from Plus) and I'm looking forward to keeping that habit up. Especially when they are now making the cross-gen situation even more confusing.

Re: Rumour: Destruction AllStars Dev at the Wheel for New Twisted Metal Game

Golem25

This has been doing the rounds for a while now, both the new TM game and Lucid's connection to it.

Personally, I don't understand why studios that produced great game - think of Studio Liverpool, Zipper Interactive, Evolution, Guerilla Cambridge, etc. - were all shuttered while Lucid produced one of the biggest bombs in recent Playstation history yet is kept within arm's reach by Sony.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Lost Judgment the Latest Game to Sell Best on PS5

Golem25

The market share is reassuring. Despite the formerly exclusive Yakuza series having plopped all its entries - save for Dead Souls and the Japanese-only titles - far and away most of its players are in the Playstation ecosystem. I don't see a reason to believe that XBox digital sales are significantly higher than their counterparts on PS either.

With all the rumours of SEGA being sold to Microsoft... well, I hope they think twice about ever going exclusively XBox.

Re: PS Plus September 2021 PS5, PS4 Games Announced

Golem25

I own nine PS4 games.

Hitman 2 (Gold Edition) is one of them. Just my luck lmao. Chuffed for everyone else because it is an amazing game, and if you declare it rubbish without trying it first then shame on you. Go in with an open mind and you will be amazed.
