Re: Poll: Do You Care About Cross-Play Now That It's Available on PS4?

PokeMario

I'm glad they added it, but I don't think the conversation is over now. This is a step towards something bigger. If popular games like Minecraft and Fortnite have cross play, it's only a matter of time before AAA games start including it. It'll be interesting to see which developers are the first ones to take the leap, and what the excuses of the other ones will be for not doing so.
I get that some people used this situation as an excuse to hate on Sony, but that doesn't mean there weren't others giving legitimate criticism. Seeing all this complaining can get annoying, but ultimately that probably is what led to Sony making the change, which in the end is a win for gamers. I don't see the complaining as a problem as long as it's about real issues and not the lack of a puddle in a Spiderman game or not being able to use NES controllers to play AAA Switch games (seriously, can someone explain to me why people were expecting that second one?)

@JJ2 I think the fact that even Nintendo was willing to allow cross play and Sony wasn't shows why this has become a big issue recently (their new online policies are enough to show you what year they're living in). Before now, most cross play in games was between a console and PC, but the fact that multiple home consoles are allowing it, AND the fact that it's present in some of the most popular games out right now and not just some obscure little games, shows that this is a much bigger deal now than it ever was before.

Re: E3 2018: There'll Be No Cross-Console Play in Fortnite on PS4

PokeMario

@FullbringIchigo
"then whats the point in having separate console platforms?"
Exclusive games, exclusive features (like Switch's portability), prefer that console's controller, etc.

"plus what if say XBL is down but PSN isn't would that effect everyone's online"
Not sure why it would unless, as you later mention, it's like Minecraft where it's run by XBL.

"and what about DLC"
What about it?

"most cross platform games use just ONE service (minecraft uses XBL for example no matter what system your using or FFXIV uses PlayOnline), it's a lot harder to connect two completely different online services to each other"
Microsoft owns Minecraft which is why they use XBL, but for most multiplatform games I would expect the third party publisher to control the service, like how Square Enix uses PlayOnline as you mentioned.

"and what if playstation owners don't want to play with xbox owners (or vice versa) because say the controller gives them an advantage in certain games (like keyboard and mouse on P.C in FPS games)"
The differences between Xbox and PlayStation controllers are miniscule compared to the difference between a controller and a PC, I don't see it giving one console that big of an advantage over the other. A bigger concern would be PC players having the advantage, but there's already been plenty of games that have crossplay with PC and either PS4 or Xbox One and I haven't seen anyone complain, mainly for the reason that Kunckles-Fajita describes above.

"what about P.C users who use mods, how might that affect console users who can't"
I usually don't use mods so I'm not to educated on the subject so correct me if I'm wrong, but to my understanding most online games ban players for using mods.

"you don't buy a PlayStation to have XBOX on it (or again vice versa)"
You'll still have the interface of a PlayStation console, the controller of a PlayStation console, and the exclusives of a PlayStation console. But if your friend prefers Xbox but wants to play with you, you'll be able to without having to buy another console.

"so no i don't think it would be great if they was all together and as for what my friends play, we all play the same system anyway so cross platform isn't important"
Just because it wouldn't benefit you doesn't mean there aren't tons of other people that would be benefited by crossplay.

Obviously there are some kinks that would need to be worked out but this isn't rocket science, I'm sure the companies would be able to work it out.

Re: E3 2018: There'll Be No Cross-Console Play in Fortnite on PS4

PokeMario

@FullbringIchigo @SlimDrizzyLamar Cross play allows people on different platforms to play with each other. You don't have to be a "hater" to want or care about cross play. I see a future where that feature is STANDARD in multiplayer games. Wouldn't that be something? Buy a game on whatever platform you own and know that you can play it with your friends regardless of what platform they own.

Re: Soapbox: Publishers Can't Bloody Win When It Comes to E3

PokeMario

This reminds me of what I said after the whole Pokken Tournament situation.

"Announced for arcades, people complained it wasn't on Wii U.
Announced for Wii U, people complained it wasn't on NX.
Now it's announced for Switch, and people are complaining.

Sounds about right."

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony PlayStation's E3 2017 Press Conference Crush the Competition?

PokeMario

I was satisfied with the amount of exclusives they showed. I feel like they normally have more third party games than they did this year, so it was a nice for a grump like me who always complains about that. I also enjoyed the fact that they went from game to game with little filler in between.
The biggest negative for me was that we already knew about most of what was shown. I was hoping for some more new announcements.
Overall Sony delivered a good conference, but I'm not sure I'd say they "crushed" the competition.

Re: Reaction: Xbox Is Still Two Steps Behind PlayStation

PokeMario

If memory serves me right Sony had its fair share of multiplatform games at recent E3s, so I'm not expecting it to be packed with exclusive after exclusive after exclusive this year. Granted, at least the PS4 even gets exclusives anymore. Every Xbox One "exclusive" is also on PC nowadays, so it won't take much for Sony to have a better E3 than Microsoft, at least in my opinion.

Re: Talking Point: Why Are Fall's Biggest Blockbusters Flopping?

PokeMario

So many first person shooters are out that it's easy for people to feel fatigue. I'm probably going to get Titanfall 2 due to its big price drop. Maybe I'll get Battlefield 1 sometime next year when it drops in price. No interest in Infinite Warfare, though.
As for other games, I'm skeptical on a lot of releases such as Watch Dogs 2. For the most part there haven't been too many great games this year outside of Uncharted 4.

Re: Feature: 5 Reasons the Life of a PS4 Player Is Wonderful

PokeMario

@xMEADx It happens often between PlayStation and Xbox "fans". (I'm reluctant to call them fans since they give the real fans a bad rep, but the word most people would use to describe them is frowned upon here.)

My problem isn't the amount of games because the PS4 definitely has plenty of them. My problem is the amount of exclusives. As the owner of a gaming PC, I can get most of the PS4's lineup on my PC. The reason I buy consoles is for exclusive games I can't get anywhere else. Would it make sense for me to get a PS4 to play Fallout 4 when I can play it on my PC? Of course not.
When I purchased my PS4, I figured the offerings on PS+ would hold me off between big releases. Unfortunately, those kind of went downhill.
For someone that has no interest in PC gaming, the PS4 would be an excellent purchase. However, for someone who does have one, I'm not so sure. There's been some great exclusives so far (Infamous Second Son, DriveClub, Bloodborne, Tearaway Unfolded, and Dragon Quest Heroes) but I'm not sure how long they'd last someone. However, with Uncharted 4 on the horizon, plus the fact that there are some pretty good deals on PS4s right now, I'd say now is probably a good time to get one. For someone that's had it for awhile, though, the PS4 hasn't exactly been "wonderful".

Re: Reaction: Sony Delivers the Greatest E3 Press Conference of All Time

PokeMario

The conference just didn't do it for me. I've allowed time for my thoughts to settle, and looking at it again, I'm a little less negative than I was before. I still wouldn't call it the greatest conference of all time.
For starters, everyone was saying "Sony has won E3" the second they showed The Last Guardian. I believe people are letting hype get in the way of this. People got really excited when Zelda U was showed for the first time. Why? Because they talked about how it would be open world, something that they've always wanted to do with a Zelda game, and how it would change the game. You wouldn't have to progress through the game in a specific order, and it expands the possibilities of the gameplay.
Then we have The Last Guardian. The gameplay looked, frankly, boring. Everyone got excited because the game exists. People have been waiting and waiting for it, and some thought it was downright cancelled. Everyone is excited that they're getting the game, but no one seems to be citing the gameplay footage as a reason for their excitement. Yes, Team Ico made two great games, but those were both over ten years ago.
A Final Fantasy VII remake was announced. I loved FFVII and am glade they're making a remake. Still, a remake isn't something that would make me call a conference the best E3 conference of all time. Also, it is not even going to be exclusive to the PS4, just a timed exclusive. Besides the fact that I hate the whole "timed exclusive" thing, I'd rather Sony put their money and efforts towards getting actual exclusives.
Shenmue III was announced...as a kickstarter. It would have been nice if Sony had actually funded this game, because even know it got funded pretty quickly, it could have been an actual PS4 exclusive. Right now it is also coming to PC, and according to the FAQ on the kickstarter page, versions for other platforms have "not been decided yet". That means there is still a possibility that it could come to even more platforms. And again, I enjoyed the original games, but they came out over ten years ago.
The PlayStation Vita was almost completely ignored. I guess that's Sony's way of thanking all of us who bought one.
We had to sit through the Destiny DLC. This game has been appearing at every PlayStation event, it's kind of annoying for everyone who has no interest in the game.
Then there was all that time wasted on the Call of Duty stuff. I never liked when Microsoft did this, and I do not like that Sony is doing this now. Who cares if it's a "big deal" for Sony, it was not enjoyable to watch.
Then there was time spent on Disney Infinity, and more "timed exclusivity" this time with figures. Throughout the conference there were things like exclusive DLC, timed exclusive betas, and timed exclusive games. I'm getting tired of all this and wish they would stop with it.
Sony showed Project Morpheus, and didn't really do anything with it. At Microsoft's conference, the VR technology was actually put to good use. Even if it's not for everybody, they at least showed the cool stuff that could be done with it and how it will change gaming. Even if you don't like Minecraft, the stuff they showed with that was impressive.
That's not to say it was a bad conference. The Uncharted 4 demo looked amazing. Street Fighter V looked great. So did Star Wars Battlefront. I think Sony really did a good job ending their conference on a high note. Horizon: Zero Dawn looked great as well, I'll definitely be checking that game out. I'm not sure how I feel about Dreams, for now I'll just wait for more information.
Overall there was some great stuff, but there was a lot holding it back from being "the greatest E3 conference of all time". With Microsoft's VR, backwards compatibility, their new innovative controller, and all their exclusives, I feel they are trying to say "this is why you should buy an Xbox One, and this is how we're changing gaming." Sony, on the other hand, didn't give much of a reason to buy a PS4 until next year, and seemed to focus on generating hype now that the PS4 has been out for over a year and its hype had died down.
And I really hate to be so negative, I don't want to hate on Sony. I'm really interested in their games and what they have to offer. I love the PlayStation brand. I just don't think their conference was as great as everyone is making it out to be. But hey, it's just my opinion.

Re: Sony Admits PS4 First-Party Lineup Is Looking a Little Sparse This Year

PokeMario

@Tasuki There are many people including myself that own multiple gaming platforms. If, say, the PS4 and the Xbox One had the exact same games, then what would be the point of owning both? There's no reason to spend four hundred dollars on a game console that does the same thing as the one you already have.
I own a gaming PC, so the majority of the multiplatform titles I purchase are for that platform. First party games and indies that are on PS4 also tend to be on PS3, PS Vita, or both. I bought a PS4 to play games I couldn't get on my other gaming platforms. At the time of purchase, there were very few exclusive games, but because of PlayStation Plus I figured I'd get plenty of games for free that I otherwise may not have purchased, and those games would be enough to hold me off until some of the heavy-hitters started rolling in. It is now almost June and there hasn't been much outside of Bloodborne and Infamous: Second Son (both great games). There were a few games such as LittleBigPlanet 3 that I could have gotten on PS3, but since I had a PS4 it made sense to get them for the PS4. Keep in mind though, if it weren't for the other games and PlayStation Plus, I would have stuck with my PS3 for games like LittleBigPlanet 3.
I'll admit the second half of this year will definitely have more than the first half, but it is still less then I would have expected, after all the delays and all. PlayStation Plus has also been going downhill, so I've been hoping my PS4 purchase would finally feel justified.
All consoles are worth buying in the end, I just feel I could have waited until a price drop before buying a PS4. I feel the same way about the Xbox One, though at least Games with Gold has greatly improved since it first launched.

Re: Soapbox: Why PS4's E3 2015 Press Conference Will Likely Disappoint

PokeMario

Though I really wish they'd give the Vita some focus, it already has plenty of great games and I'm fully satisfied with my purchase of it. Now, PS4 on the other hand is in need of some more first party games. Though the second half of this year looks a lot more filled with games than the first half, I've realized that I can't be sure if a game will disappoint or not. I went from interested to definitely not buying for The Order: 1886, so who knows if that will happen to anymore games this year. If Sony can announce a few more first party titles for this year, it will be enough to balance out any possible disappointments that could happen.

Re: PS4 Sales Push Past 22.3 Million as Sony Plans Profits

PokeMario

I'm glad they're planning on making a profit this year, and I really hope they do. I feel like they'll shut down more divisions with more losses, and it would really be a shame if people lost their jobs because of that.

As for the PS4 sales, maybe these sales will encourage Sony to step up their game. It's kind of a shame Bloodborne is really the only game I'd say is the PS4's "killer app", considering it's been out for well over a year now. I won't complain too much, though. E3 is almost here, so hopefully we'll see a good amount of games there. I think the second half of 2015 will definitely be more "jam-packed" with game releases than the first half.

Re: Opinion: Why You Shouldn't Write Off PS4 Racer DriveClub

PokeMario

A theory that is probably unlikely but whatever:
Sony announces a free version of the game for PS Plus. People who weren't originally interested go "Hey, it's free, may as well try it." They get interested in DriveClub, but when the game comes out, its bugs and issues cause them to delay the PS Plus edition. By then the people have gotten excited enough for the game that they say "screw it" and buy the full game.

I'll get the full version, but not until they keep their promise and release the PS Plus edition.

Re: PS4 Loses Black Friday Battle, Research Firm Claims

PokeMario

Microsoft most likely won Black Friday, but they were practically bleeding money with those deals for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Though they'll probably make a lot of money off of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, they're probably losing a lot of money.
Nintendo may not of sold too many Wii U's, but they probably did at least decent with the recent release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Plus, those amiibo figures are going to be making Nintendo a ton of money.
Sony probably sold a lot of PS4's this month, even if they didn't win Black Friday. It's kind of hard to tell exactly how well they did with the stiff competition there was this month, so I guess we'll see.

Re: Talking Point: Is This Gaming's Most Disappointing Ever Year?

PokeMario

Remember last year when everyone was saying 2014 was going to be the best year ever in gaming? Still cracks me up.

I imagine next year won't be as bad with games like The Witcher 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, The Legend of Zelda Wii U, Splatoon, Uncharted 4, Halo 5: Guardians, among other games. I'm still keeping my expectations low though.

Though next year will be better, what's sad is that this is the direction the gaming industry is going. People will continue to pay full price on day one for broken games, incomplete games, and bad games in general, all with locked content and tons of overpriced day one DLC. I am disgusted with Ubisoft, Activision, EA, and Sega. Heck, Sony and Microsoft are starting to worry me too. Luckily there are some games that make this year great, but at the same time we've had Titanfall, Watch Dogs, Destiny, DriveClub, Assassin's Creed Unity, and The Elder's Scrolls Online. Going back a little further, we've had Call of Duty Ghosts and Knack. If it weren't for the few quality games that I will purchase from these companies, I'm getting to the point where I want to boycott them.

We need change, and it won't happen unless gamers take action.

Re: Feature: How Has the PS4 Fared in Its First Year?

PokeMario

Personally, I was interested in the indie games more than anything else at first. I enjoyed Resogun, and there were some games that I considered getting on PS3 or PC but ended up getting for free on PS4 thanks to PS+. Still, those games only last so long, and as much as I enjoy them, I do like to experience a full retail game now and then. There hasn't been too many of those, I'm not interested in Knack and Killzone: Shadow Fall, and I have The Last of Us on PS3 and do not intend on buying it again. Infamous Second Son and First Light were great. DriveClub doesn't look as good as I originally thought, and the online is still having problems, so with Forza Horizon 2 and Project CARS coming next year, I'm good on racing games. The only other PS4 I will be getting this year is LittleBigPlanet 3. Overall, I could have stuck with my PS3 and not missed out on too much.
The hardware updates have been decent, but PSN has had some issues. Marketing, sales, and press conferences don't affect my enjoyment of the console.
Overall, I give it a C-. I'm not regretting my purchase because there are some great games coming next year, with plenty more surely to follow in the years after.

Re: Feature: Why Do Next-Gen Games Keep Disappointing?

PokeMario

Developers have been too busy cutting content from their games to sell as DLC so they haven't had time to put effort into their games. Thank god for developers like Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch that put effort into their games and are pretty fair with DLC. And all of the indie developers that can make better games with a few people than Bungie can with a $500 million budget.
