@Muttt same thing is happening on Xbox regarding having anything less than glowing opinions about starfield. I hate that video game discourse is this way. Some people are incapable of nuance and have to lump everyone into either the fanboy or hater categories with no room for reasonable people in between.
The combat had no weight to it and felt so button mashy. I can see how it might eventually open up into something fun for other people but I don't think it's for me.
Weird, I think most of Sony's other recent titles would be a better basis for future output. Horizon might be Sony's prettiest game but all of their other recent titles feel better to play, don't have the same issues with bugs that Horizon has, and look just as nice.
I feel like this boss was an upsetting reality check for all the people who grinded their way through Elden Ring. He really isn't that hard, he is just too early in the game to overcome through being OP.
@IslandLogic You're calling a Latino racist for telling another person of color that they're doing a bad job of supporting our shared struggle. I don't think you have room to talk.
@IslandLogic You do realize it can both be true that this game is deserving of critique and that games with black protagonist always receive an exceptional amount of pre-release criticism. This is literally Deathloop all over again. If you want to ignore that pattern cool for you but doing so doesn't make you more sophisticated and rational as you seem to imply. I would say it makes you a bit of an Uncle Tom but that's your business.
People are being overly critical of an unreleased game with a black protagonist? I'm shocked, I'm absolutely shocked, that anyone would be surprised about it because it happens every time.
@whitejessegpfc I feel like the problem with Returnal is less about difficulty and more about bad RNG. Don't get me wrong it is hard but as long as I have good enough RNG outcomes to beat the first biome, I beat the game every time. You can usually tell within 10 minutes if a run is going to be viable and abort if not.
@KaijuKaiser I'm too far gone? My dude look at how everyone on this message board is responding to you. And yes, you appear have attached your identity to this game. It seems to personally offend you that other people do not like it. It's okay, it's a normal widespread phenomenon. People with sad lives attach themselves to games, companies, nationalism, Elon Musk, etc because they feel proud by that which they have associated themselves with. A common trait of people who do this is to attack anyone who does not like the thing they like which you are doing.
Maybe I am wrong but the alternative is that you're just kind of a rude ***** to people for no reason. If that's how you would prefer to be perceived then so be it.
@WallyWest Lawyers for the Republican party in the US had to define the word woke in court and defined it as the belief that the world is not equitable and effort to make the world equitable. It's funny to see them forced to admit that their supposed boogeyman is just a bunch of people who want the world to be a little bit better.
@NateGoesLive Your concerns make sense. I really enjoyed Cult of the Lamb and got to the final boss the night before Ragnarok released. I have not even attempted to beat the final boss because I would much rather play Ragnarok.
@Dishonored29 If you are sitting more than 3 feet away from a 55" 4k TV science says there is no difference. That being said I have done the eye test and yes I can see a visual difference between performance mode and visual mode. The difference I see is developer added detail rather than additional clarity. Polygon's article about Ragnarok visual modes has an image slider that shows exactly what I am referring to. I think people confuse this for added clarity.
At a normal viewing distance your eyes cannot even see the difference between 4k and 1080p. I will take 1080p and 60 fps everyday but I cannot even get that on some games because people insist on 4k for literally no reason.
@BlackMayge I also stash games in my backlog so I can play them when I have an itch for the genre. I never understand why people are so stressed by their backlog. I actively maintain and grow my backlog so I know I always have something fun to play no matter what I am in the mood for.
Does anyone know why the bottom part of my phone screen is dark when playing remote? I bought a Backbone to play Persona 5 and have ended up not using it much because the bottom third of the screen is so dark.
I see a lot of confused comments here about this design decision. As an American, allow me to explain. A lot of people here are gun obsessed weirdos who wear camo and several guns everyday when they like shop for groceries and spend the entire shopping trip fantasizing about an opportunity to use their guns on a bad guy robbing the store. It's very scary. Also dumb because camo stands out in an urban setting.
As an American it's rare to see news I feel good about. There may be a lot of terrible stuff about us but at least we weren't scammed into playing the boring parts of games for pointless digital tchotchkes.
@stvevan Yes, you respond with a fanboy comment "look at the sales numbers" and I am being childish for pointing out evidence. When one source says one thing and a bunch of other credible sources say the opposite, you ignore the one source. It is being sold at a profit. Now it is going to be sold at a greater profit. This is price gouging.
@stvevan No I am not. Google it. You will find dozens of articles talking about the PS5 no longer being sold at a loss.
I hope you actually do take the time to google it and find out that you were extremely wrong and then take some time to reflect on all the other stuff you just talk out of our ass about. And then maybe reflect on your relationship with corporations that do not care about you and how you were so willing to eat the ***** they feed you because you like the games they make.
@get2sammyb This is not conjecture on my part. Sony said that the price of the inputs has decreased significantly and that they are now making a profit on every PS5 they sell. This is not happening because it has become more expensive to make and distribute PS5s. It is happening because they want to turn a bigger profit. All of the current "inflation" is price gouging. How many more times do you need to see a company announce positive financial news one week and then cry about inflation the next week before you realize we're all being scammed?
This is bad reporting. Earlier this year Sony announced that the PS5 which was initially sold at a loss had become profitable. Their costs have decreased since launch, not increased. They're price gouging and lying about inflation and you're carrying water for that lie.
@nofriendo We definitely have different perspectives on Kena but I can see where you're coming from. I suppose my play style might impact my recollection of the game. I found the platforming and environmental puzzles to be frustrating. I didn't like how frequently I ran into invisible walls that prevented me from pulling off moves that seemed possible based on the physics and the movement often felt like it prioritized animation over graceful gameplay so it didn't always feel great. I did like the jump in the air to shoot flowers aspect but for the most part I almost treated the game like a souls game in that I played on hard and really only focused on the boss and horde battles. It was definitely a challenge at times (harder than Elden Ring in my opinion) but I kind of like getting my ass kicked for a while before I figure out how to beat a boss.
Ratchet and Kena are not platformers. They have a small amount of platforming elements and those elements are by far the least interesting part of the gameplay in each of those games.
Sony always manages to steal Xbox's lunch. They're giving me 2/3 games I was most excited to see added to Gamepass after the Activision deal is finalized.
@naruball You're describing tent pole releases. Tent pole releases make a ton of money that funds both profits and additional projects. They allow the companies to fund less profitable or more risky projects that could become very profitable. What this doesn't do is allow corporations to fund unprofitable projects solely for the sake of art. The shareholders would never allow that. Every project that gets greenlit, even the projects that do not end up making money, was greenlit for the sole purpose of making money. Even in those extremely rare instances where a corporation funds a money losing venture they are not doing so for the art, they want to raise their prestige so that more people buy the tent poles. Sony is not your friend and they are not artists. They are a corporation that exists to make profits. That doesn't mean it's wrong to enjoy their products, it's just what it is.
@Flaming_Kaiser but you understand that Sony is not doing that out of the goodness of their heart right? They have just determined that the best way to grab your cash is to sell $70 games without micro transactions. This enables them to sell a ***** load of consoles and gain market share for third party releases from which Sony makes billions of dollars through micro transactions. And now they are pivoting to online service games to boost the money they make from micro transactions because at the end of the day Sony's mission is to grab your cash.
@Flaming_Kaiser Nah, it's just a fact of life. Corporations make AAA games to make money. They don't give a ***** about the art. They only care about the money. Now that's not to say games are not made by people who care about the art. It is just to say the people who get to decide which games get greenlit only care about money. To believe anything else would be naive.
It took me about 3 hours to realize I hated the open world format and another 3 to finally stop forcing myself to play. Letting me decide when to fight a boss completely takes away the appeal of beating bosses in Souls games. Beating bosses in ER doesn't make me feel accomplished it just makes me feel like well I guess I grinded enough to be able to beat that one. Cool I guess. I need these games to be linear so that I know I am fighting the boss at the intended difficulty otherwise what is the point. I don't understand how it's fun to win via grinding. Yay you wasted your life fighting easy enemies until the boss became an easy enemy!
@jgrangervikings1 Yes absolutely, both of those games have more frequent platforming elements and in the case of Returnal, the platforming is not only more common and essential to gameplay but also just better.
It's weird that any game with color and a jump button is called a platformer. Call me crazy but platformers should be games where jumping skillfully is the main task. Ratchet is definitely not a platformer. It's a shooter. The platforming is generally optional and feels very meh. It Takes Two has a fair amount platforming but the focus is definitely mixed gameplay and there is so much assist on the jumps that they are almost impossible to miss. It's an Action Adventure game. Kena is an action game. The little platforming is often optional, more often focus on timed shooting rather than jumping, and it feels stiff as this article mentions. They are all good games but platforming is not the thing that makes them good nor is is the main activity.
@thefourfoldroot My thought exactly. I will almost certainly never play this game I received for free because it got crap reviews. If anything, based on the reviews, I think they should count themselves lucky that they took the guaranteed money.
@DETfaninATL You need to spend more time playing the Gigs and NCPD Assualts in progress. Those are for the most part pure action or stealth with minor world building that can usually be ignored. They also have some of the best rewards and NCPD are great for raising street cred.
@Wolfie_Pie It was a lot to wrap my head around but I'm glad I did. It allows for so much choice. I've never felt so engaged by an upgrade system. I've been loving trying to turn my V into and unstoppable agile tank. I'm almost there.
@Netret0120 I think if they had waited until the game was ready to release it we would be talking about it as a game of the year contender but as is the whole fiasco seems to have poisoned the well.
@UltimateOtaku91 you're wrong about the ages of switch players. Stats show that only 14% of switch owners are under 19 years old. Most gamers across all consoles are millennials.
