Re: Feature: The 10 Best PS5 Games of 2024 So Far

Shepherd_Tallon

Excellent list. The top three especially. I wouldn't argue with any of this. Delighted to see Unicorn Overlord in there too.

Now I'm hyped to play Rebirth again. I just need to get through Erdtree, Stellar Blade, Unicorn Overlord and Rise of the Ronin first...

Re: Preview: Ignore The Haters, Concord Is a Good PS5 Shooter We Can't Wait to Play More Of

Shepherd_Tallon

@AinsleyE I can absolutely see why hero shooter regulars might not be bothered with this.
Being speculative, I feel like maybe Firewalk are going for the entry level crowd here. Everyone says it's too difficult to pull players away from the established service games, so perhaps they're just making it easier hoping everyone else will give it a go instead.
Again, that's just pure speculation on my part.

Personally I don't go for 5v5 hero shooters because I haven't the skill or the patience to be good at them.
Trying Concord over the weekend, once I got used to it and found a character I liked it felt easy because it's slower than all of the twitch and hero shooters that I suck at.
At times I felt like I was playing Golden Eye.

It's nothing special mind. Just a little bit of fun.
It'll live or die based on the post launch roadmap I feel.

@Atreus97 I've seen the same - People talking about how they haven't played the game and never will in one breath and declaring that it's trash in the next.

Not liking the game is fine and perfecly valid. I didn't think I'd like it, but it's more or less won me over at this point.
I'd like to see more from the other game modes before I'm 100% convinced, especially the solo time trial mode, but for now at least I'll be keeping my pre-order.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on the Concord PS5, PC Beta?

Shepherd_Tallon

Was on a bad streak with one of my friends just now. We were playing terribly in a few games.
5-30 or something nuts like that was a highlight score.
We were so bad I was going to cancel my pre-order.
Then I picked Star Child for the first time, he picked Duchess, and we just vibed with it.
We played one more round and won our first game with those characters, sticking to each other like glue.

It could be a fun game to play for an hour or two on a Friday night. I'm leaning towards keeping the pre-order now.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on the Concord PS5, PC Beta?

Shepherd_Tallon

@UltimateOtaku91 @get2sammyb Agreed with both.
The only counter I would offer Sammy is the slow pace is what draws me to it.
Sure lots of hardcore gamers won't like it, but I suck at rapid PvP shooters and the slower pace here makes me feels like I'm actually in with a shout during a match.

And man, the music is so cool.

So far it's looking like a very well put together 7/10 for me. That said, I'm not sure if I'll be buying it yet. I'll see what those single player time trial modes are like in the full launch before I commit.

Re: Talking Point: Was Sony Right to Resist Adding PS5 Exclusives to PS Plus Day One?

Shepherd_Tallon

@AdamNovice 100% this. MS tried to use the Edward Bernays playbook to convince everyone of the new reality. The "Normalise playing ten games at once" social media posts from Xbox a few years back were enough to make me feel burned out.
It could never last - sub services seem to need constant growth, but there are only so many people in the world.

For myself, if you want my money regularly you need to regularly sell me something that retains some kind of value when I'm done with it.
For the likes of Netflix, Prime and Disney, subbing a month or two each year usually gets me through everything that I really want to look at.
Cut back on the fomo stuff and there's really not that much there that I "must see".

Re: Poll: Can a Game's Brutal Difficultly Put You Off Playing It?

Shepherd_Tallon

Time is sacred to me these days, but if it's a franchise that I've loved for a long time I'll happily take whatever they're offering, and I love almost everything FromSoftware does, regardless of difficulty.
New franchises trying to emulate what FS does will have a difficult time getting onto my shelf though. I only have enough time for the ones I already know I'm going to love.

@DogPark Nioh 2 was particularly brutal.
I reached the second last area and just stopped playing.
Great game, I just burned out on the painful boss fights and difficulty spikes.
FromSoftware games on the other hand, if I die it's usually my own fault. No complaints. Either I walked blind into a wide open area or I failed to realise that the thing that looked like it could step on me was in fact going to step on me.

Re: UK Video Game Retailer GAME Will Reportedly Stop Stocking Video Games

Shepherd_Tallon

I can't remember the last time I bought a physical game in a store.
I buy everything from Amazon or ToyMaster now.

@PSme Brick and mortar game stores are dying.
Physical games have a fair bit of life in them, so physical die hards like us don't need to worry just yet. The main way to buy physical is online storefronts now.

tbh I only have so much space anyway, so if we did switch to an all digital future based on the gog.com model I wouldn't complain.

Re: Sony Is Allegedly Pulling PSVR2 Funding, Report Claims

Shepherd_Tallon

@naruball Same honestly. I'm having a great time with mine, and I still have to start or finish Call of the Mountain, Arizona Sunshine 2 and Legendary Tales.
As I understand it, Sony has funded the RE games on PSVR2. The focus is very much on third party.

Also, Behemoth remains one of my most anticipated games.

Re: Poll: So, What Are Your Thoughts on Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

Shepherd_Tallon

I'm excited.
Sure the cg trailer wasn't the best, but the gameplay and setting look excellent.

I was almost relieved when they said the settings were more linear than Inquisition. There's been a lot of open world stuff on my list already this year, with Erdtree on the way, so I'm definitely in the mood for something a little more linear in that regard.

But yeah, put me in the excited af list.

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate Summer Game Fest and Its Surrounding Shows as a Whole?

Shepherd_Tallon

@Jimmer-jammer I was just thinking something similar.
Take away the optics and the entertainment value of a show, and just put the games all in a row. That's all I care about at 40 pushing 41.
The big dramatic E3 reveal moments were crazy exciting, until they just became ammo that the fanboys could fire at each other. I can live without all of that.

I still overall prefer Nintendo and Sony's approach of only saying what they need to and just showing me what I can play in a given year, but I'm starting to itch for a hint of what else is coming beyond that too.
In that regard and as far as an entertaining show is concerned, XBox had it. They've bought so much IP recently that they couldn't fail.

But focusing just on the games, XBOX and PlayStation had two games each for me:

  • Avowed
  • Fable
  • Behemoth
  • Astrobot

And then DragonAge on both platforms.
If Avowed comes to PlayStation I'll give it a go for sure. It's looking much better than the first gameplay reveal.
But Astrobot is the game that I can't stop thinking about. There were a few other games shown in the last few weeks that I'm excited for, but Astro was something else.

When I think about that game I can't even remember the shows.

Re: Hidetaka Miyazaki 'Knows for a Fact' FromSoftware Devs Want a Bloodborne PC Port

Shepherd_Tallon

@GymratAmarillo Honestly I think this is what it is.
Either Sony are afraid that it won't sell well outside of the enthusiast demographics, thereby taking some of the shine off of the game's rep, or they're holding it back for when it can have the biggest impact.

The comic book series is ongoing so the franchise is alive in their minds, but something is holding them back.

In my wildest, most unrealistic dreams they're holding back a PS5/pc port so it can be announced alongside a sequel reveal.
