Re: Some PS5 Owners Can't Upgrade PS4 Copies of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion

ThaBEN

@helbertpina
I believe this occurs only with PS4 physical discs. The reason behind this is that the PS5 starts automatically installing the PS4 version from disc as soon as you insert the disc into your console, regardless if you have the PS5 version installed. The only workaround I've heard of is to delete the PS4 version when the disc is not in the console. Then go to the game you want to play. Selecte more options (the 3 dots), and choose to start the PS5 version. Then insert the disc. If I'm correct this way the PS5 version will start without the console trying to automatically instal the PS4 version.

Re: Some PS5 Players Are Mistakenly Playing the PS4 Version of Cross-Gen Games

ThaBEN

I'm glad I chose to only buy the dedicated PS5 version of games! My Spider-sense was tingling when the PS4 + PS5 combo packs are sold for less then a standalone PS5 version. What a mess with these free PS4 to PS5 upgrades!

You can delete the PS4 version. However, you'll end in a loop if you upgraded from a PS4 physical game. After deleting the PS4 version, the PS5 will automatically reinstall the PS4 version as soon as you insert the PS4 disc, which is mandatory in order to boot up the free digital PS5 upgrade.

Just imagine having to install COD twice and receiving their massive patches twice! R.I.P. SSD!

Re: PS5 Games Won't Support PSVR, Says Sony

ThaBEN

@SarcasticPeanut
That sounds reasonable. But it still has me worried that this would mean there will be almost no new VR content coming in the immeadiate future. Star Wars: Squadrons is a great example of how PS4 and PSVR games can co-exist. Guess this will no longer happen on PS5.

Re: PS5 Games Won't Support PSVR, Says Sony

@hi_drnick
Maybe you should consider the fact that Hitman 3 will import all the levels (including DLC) from previous Hitman games if you own them, which I do. Hitman 2 is already over 100Gb on my PS4 because of this. Adding Hitman 3 to that list will probably add another 50Gb (+future DLC). So yes, I do consider having to install over 300Gb and presumably no cross save game option a problem, if this is required to play the PS5 and PSVR version. Especially since there will be less then 700Gb free space available on PS5.

Re: PS5 Games Won't Support PSVR, Says Sony

ThaBEN

This is ridacalous. So on my PS5 i have to use PS4 version of games that are also availlable on PS5 to be able to enjoy VR? And let's not forget that most of these games still use PS3 move controllers.

And what about save files? Are they separate for PS4 and PS5 version as well?

Re: Poll: How Often Will You Use PS5 Backwards Compatibility?

ThaBEN

I'll have a huge backlog of PS4 games. So i'll use it often in the first year or so. However, i plan to finish the campaign of each game only once and will not revisit already completed PS4 games on the PS5.
But i also have a PSVR. And i will continue to play those games (like Beat Saber) regularly during mij PS5 life cycle.
These count as backwards compatibility games too, right?

Re: Smash Down Some Burger King for a Chance to Win a PS5

ThaBEN

@Kopite
I dont't want to see the UI for the UI's sake. But i'm curious about all possibilities.
Like the apps that are present, resolution options we can choose, how the friendslist look, the internal media player, the Blu-ray player options, other quality of life improvements compared to the PS4 and that sort of thing.
I don't need to see it, but i'm curious

Re: Did the PS5 UI Reveal Just Get Teased by Burger King?

ThaBEN

"Now with every Whopper menu, a chance to win a PS5! Starting this Thursday!"

-edit-
Everything seems like it's a "Win a PS5" promotional ad. But the date at the end throws me off. They wouldn't tease a simple promotional ad like that with a anouncement trailer just 2 days before it starts, right?

Maybe it's a new sandwich which looks like a PS5 console laid horizontal xD!

-edit 2-
Or maybe it's the custom face plates being revealed, starting with some flame grilled Burger King themed PS5 face plates.

Re: PS5 Stand Solution Is Seriously Nifty

ThaBEN

I think PS5's approach is all about evolution, and that's a good thing!

  • Removable Panels
  • Liquid Metal Cooling
  • Dust Catchers
  • Haptic Feedback on the triggers
  • Custom SSD

Man, if this is just the console, i can't wait what they come up with for the new VR headset!

Re: More PS5 Launch Games Will Arrive a Week Before the UK Console Release

ThaBEN

Just a reminder that this also means we have to keep avoiding spoilers for a week from gamers in the USA who are already playing those games.
And then there are some PS5 titles that might even release earlier on their PS4 counterpart.
Going to be hard to keep up-to-date with PS5 news while trying to avoid spoilers.

Re: Rumour: Your PS4 Saves May Not Work on All Upgraded PS5 Games

ThaBEN

Update:
Insomniac Games community director James Stevenson has now stated that, in the case of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales at least, your PS4 save will carry across to the PS5 if you utilise the title's free next-gen upgrade. This situation seems to suggest that cross-save has not been mandated by Sony and so some developers may opt not to support the feature

Re: Sony Confirms Spider-Man PS5 Remaster Is Not a Free Upgrade

ThaBEN

"You can upgrade to the PS5 version of Miles Morales for free if you buy the PS4 version. And if you do that, you can pay for an Ultimate Edition upgrade, which gives you access to Spider-Man: Remastered"

In this scenario, do I need the PS4 disc of "Spider-Man: Miles Morales" to be able to play the digital PS5 version of "Spider-Man: Remastered"?

I think we'll need a flowchart for this mess, lol.

Re: PS5 Game Install Sizes Revealed, And They're Enormous

ThaBEN

So the original Spider-Man on PS4 was 75Gb including all DLC. The PS5 Remastered edition is 55Gb. So this is roughly a optimization of 20% due to the fact you need less double assets installed because of the SSD's speed.

Has Sony said anything if installing PS4 games on a PS5 will also use less disc space because of this? Or is this strictly a feature for dedicated PS5 games, which will result in identical install sizes for PS4 games on a PS5, compared to PS4.

(I already sold my PS4, but still have a good amount of PS4 games laying around that i need to play once I get my PS5.)
