It’s nice to see and hopefully a resurgence in platformers. Don’t get me wrong, I love Mario, but it would be nice to see other IPs develop or return, like Astro Bot.
Also, the character choices are just bonkers. Joker and the yet-to-be-released Deathstroke make sense, but Mrs. Freeze and Deadshot’s daughter? Who wanted that lol.
Plenty of actual female supervillains they could’ve added like Killer Frost or Cheetah. But the characters they chose just aren’t going to excite anyone or get people to buy the game.
I’m guessing the only reason this game is still getting content is because it involves an IP and probably had some contract guaranteeing a year of extra content? Just a little surprising to see it still going when Concord was killed immediately, but I guess Concord was an original IP so they weren’t beholden to anyone else.
I like when companies make collection of their old games even if those games don’t quite hold up for today’s standards. However, I think a collection like this either needs more games or something to make it worthwhile. I’m mildly curious to try these, but I know I’d just try each game once and never touch it again. There just needs to be more in the package to entice me.
I just don’t have any strong feelings toward it. I think it’s fine for those who want it and would enjoy the enhancements, but personally, the standard PS5 is just fine for my needs. Maybe I’ll feel the pull to get one later on, who knows, but right now I’m content.
@jrt87 I get your point but, for comparison, Tekken 3 on console had 21 characters. The base game of Mortal Kombat 1 has 22. And if we’re looking at Tekken, Tekken 8 has 32 characters in the base game. So what you’re getting in the base game today is comparable to the content you’d get in a fighting game years ago, y’know?
@MrPeanutbutterz Games designed to eat quarters totally weren’t for profit lol
But seriously, don’t forget some of those SNES/Genesis games like Lion King that were intentionally designed to be so hard that a kid couldn’t clear it in a rental period and had to buy it instead. Gaming has always been for profit lol
@stinkyx Glad I’m not alone haha. I still haven’t used half of the first batch of DLC characters very much. So at the moment I’m just enjoying Animalities and the new Towers while leveling people up. If I ever get bored of that then maybe I’ll spring for the new guys. But that’s why I’m trying patience this time around because by the time I’m ready for the new characters, good chance the pass gets a bit of a discount. We’ll see though.
Looks like what I assumed. A character pass with a bit of story thrown in. Cost is definitely too high for what it is, but the guest characters intrigue me (especially Ghostface) so I’ll wait for a sale to snag it. I still have plenty to do in MK1 as it is with all the characters I have yet to use very much haha
@Balosi You’re not wrong, but Square tried to counter this with the Twin Pack. I actually jumped on the series myself because when you preordered the Twin Pack digitally you got Remake for free. Granted, I had some interest in the series already so I had a good feeling I’d end up enjoying it, but getting the first one for free was a nice incentive.
I’m still not sure how many people knew about that though and a sequel for such a story driven game is always going to be a tougher sell to newcomers. It’ll be interesting to see what they try when the third installment comes out.
A lot of people have been trying to take the wrong lesson from recent live service failures like Suicide Squad or Concord. It’s not that live service games are unpopular, it’s that the market is saturated with them. There are a lot of big games out there, like Diablo, that have their hooks in players so the challenge for a newcomer like Suicide Squad or Concord is to get those players to jump ship. Clearly that’s hard to do.
@PuppetMaster You make some good points and honestly, even without trophies, people are going to try and achieve random things in games just for fun. Take Breath of the Wild as an example. Nintendo games have no achievements and you do not need to find every korok seed in the game to get all of Link’s upgrades. And yet, people hunt for every seed anyway. Sure, there’s a “reward” for doing so, but it’s a gag and not worth the effort. But finding every seed is something that can extend your gameplay, so some players do it.
So even without a trophy to chase, I guarantee there would’ve been some players trying to hit that max Concord level anyway just because. Doing something because you can is what some gamers do haha
Little surprised they couldn’t find a way to let these titles run natively. Because on the Switch, as part of a NSO subscription you get access to older games from NES, SNES, GameBoy, and others. You can play those locally, offline even, but then your access is shut off without connecting to internet to verify your subscription about once a week, I think. Anyway, the point is it is possible to do a subscription service and allow users to play games locally. Wonder why they didn’t do that for this service.
This was a great article! I hadn’t even thought about the platinum but that will be one of the rarest trophies ever now (for those that care about that sort of thing).
Pretty unlikely Concord will be worth much in the future. If somehow Concord is reinvented and becomes a hit later on, then maybe. But as of now, it has no IP attached to it or anything of note, really. It’s just an expensive flop.
Doesn’t help that the game will be literally unplayable. The only people who will shell out cash for a useless disc of a failed game are the people buying it off the shelves right now lol
This is actually nuts! To not even try to keep it going. Literally no one must be playing it.
This is why shooters need some kind of offline mode, honestly. It’s a gamble as a player to buy a multiplayer only game because you’re counting on other people playing it, otherwise it’s a useless product.
I think the only hope it has is free to play, but that alone wouldn’t be enough. I don’t know anything about the gameplay, but if it’s solid enough and can get some major streamers interested… maybe? But otherwise it’s going to need a serious investment to get people interested and I doubt that’s worth the effort.
This game will be a memory by this time next month, I’m afraid.
I’ve gotten to the point where I very rarely buy a game at release. It has to be something I’m incredibly hyped for. Otherwise I just wait for a sale as they happen pretty frequently, all things considered.
There are so many games available on PS, I always have something to play so patience isn’t too hard
This makes sense. As much as people love Quidditch, the Snitch aspect always bothered me in the books/movies. It just makes the rest of the game feel pointless when catching the thing is an automatic win.
Smart call to remove it. The game would’ve been ridiculously broken if the Snitch had the same rules. I just know there will be some players who figure out how to catch the thing instantly, which wouldn’t be fun at all lol
@KyushuTrail Same! I have been putting stuff I’m only mildly interested in on the wishlist, but it adds up and I recently hit the limit. It’s just easier for sales to browse a list of games I know I’m interested in than to slog through the full list every time.

Capitalism at its finest, huh? Sheesh, how on earth was Epic supposedly not “financially sound” with what Fortnite pulls in.
