Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Zenless Zone Zero?

7 feels the most fair. It’s no Dynasty Warriors but I really love the world and setting so it gets brownie points for that. Plus some of my favorite character designs.
Edit: for some reason I didn’t notice the subheadline when typing the comment, now got caught offgaurd and bursted out in laughter.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 537

I’ve been catching up with one of my favorite gaming franchises and my favorite ps2 platforming franchise and that’s Ape Escape, with the third one being what I’m playing.
Now I always been a big AE bloke but truth be told, this entry outclasses the previous two so much that there’s no competition at all.

Now if you’ve never played this or you only know about the series for its monkey business shenanigans, you might be in for a surprise learning that one of its core defining features is the added Morph Gear, a mechanic utilizing various transformations with all sorts of themes like Mahou Shoujou, Arabian Nights, Cowboys and Ninjas just to name. There’s insane variety in your toolkit. I’m actually a big enthusiast of Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Madoka Magica and all the stuff so it was quite nice finding an actual video game that scratched that itch.

Now if you’re someone who’s just unfamiliar with Ape Escape as a WHOLE, then it’s basically Mario 64 with a ton of Zelda and I do mean a TON. That alone should sell you in my opinion.

If you’re interested as well, there’s a British English dub across the entire trilogy. American English as well but I don’t like the name changes. The female protagonist (oh yeah, there’s one now) is named Sayaka in EU/JP but Yumi in US… which is also a Japanese name…

The game is a jolly ol’ time, and yeah, now I should elaborate that there’s a new bloke in the block… a new female protagonist! I hugely welcome this, always a plus in any circumstance. (Though truth be told, it was a small headache watching every cutscene THRICE just to hear all voices, but it’s a lot of fun).

Happy gaming and g’day. ✌️

@PuppetMaster I trust Nagoshi-san will make something interesting, if nothing else. He was very protective of Kiryu, unlike Yokoyama-san who has no qualms and seems a little too comfortable putting Kiryu in scenarios where he feels out of place. D:

(As in example, notice how not long after his departure, Kiryu was suddenly popping up in so many promotions where he previously rarely appeared in any Sega crossovers)

Re: Talking Point: What's Your PS5 Game of the Year for 2024 So Far?

Yousef-

@GymratAmarillo I do think so yes.

  • Storywise I’ve played the series since Smackdown vs Raw 2009 and was always particularly a fan of the licensed rock music and the storylines. The former stopped being a thing around 2011 and the latter begun slowly fading away with ‘12 being the last to feature it. The “history” mode that replaced it was kind of a hit n miss and heavily depended on the presentation in particular which is something both 2k23 and 2k24 excel at compared to how “above average at best” it used to be. Sometimes you couldn’t call it abode average as some of the late-2010s games were a borderline snoozefest. So it’s really cool that they’re pouring in a lot of love however it’s still sorta essentially giant baby steps, hence why 2k25 in particular needs to REALLY knock it out of the park to fully nail down this direction. The fact Vince is out of the picture should hopefully ensure better quality control. I hope the next game heavily features YEET and maybe CM Punk.
  • Gameplay wise, the games are incredibly smooth and not as dull as what came before. It’s a more refined version of what you’d see in Def Jam Fight for NY and Def Jam Vendetta as it still uses the No Mercy control layout so nothing will feel unfamiliar. There’s a tooooon of match variety and stuff you can do. It’s super fun and there’s tons of little secrets including a trophy that references Cody’s infamous “where’s that referee?!” Rant. Insane love is in this game.

EDIT: I’d like to apologize. There’s issues with how this message is displayed. I tried separating the two paragraphs but they keep getting combined no matter how many edits I make. Apologies for potential inconveniences.

EDIT 2: the issue seems to be fixed. I hope the message looks fine on everyone’s end.

Sorry if the SP discourse is getting a little off topic from the main article but I’d like to chime in with my two cents and say I find the “SP games” term a little redundant due to the sheer abundance of games already having SP and their respectably high ratio. I think it makes sense in a hypothetical context where MP games start to outweigh them but it never felt like we were ever dry on SP stuff IMHO.

Onto the article itself, I’ve dodged both genshin and honkai, but this time I’ll dip my toes into ZZZ. It’s getting harder to game at home, and I did genuinely wanna give these games a shot eventually.

The hiphop underground aesthetic does appeal to me more compared to high fantasy stuff.
