Re: Despite PS4's Success, Sony Expects to Lose a Lot of Money Again

eLarkos

@Faruko I am going to trust every comment you say from now on simply for mentioning Moto X.

I said a few months (a year??) ago that sonys issues were simply because they make inferior products right across the board. Including their smartphones. Well as someone who follows the mobile tech industry fairly closely I can confidently say my old comment simply doesn't apply anymore. Their new line of tablets and smartphones are right up their with the best of them - if not the best! (Besides Motorolas products) So it really does now seem like a marketing/distribution problem. I have many US friends who simply cant get their hands on the latest xperia phones.

Re: Shu Yoshida Hopes Rise of the Tomb Raider Releases on PS4 Eventually

eLarkos

@get2sammyb Yea I agree with your second comment. He does seem overall a bit agitated.
I have to disagree on the part about this not being in his direct interests though. Also, Sony should (and can) become informed to some extent about these deals. NDA or not.

"Hey SE, Tomb Raider is going to look awesome on the PS4 ay?!" "Hey Sony, sure is. I cant wait to show you it running on the PS4" .... next day.... "Tomb Raider is XBOX1 exclusive"

Ridiculous example to highlight how ridiculous I find this situation/his comments.

Perhaps he's miffed because he knows Sony F'd up?

Edit: in response to my fairly stupid example, it actually wouldn't be unprecedented in this industry for something like that to happen haha! (although I dont think thats the case here)

Re: Reaction: Sony's Gamescom 2014 Press Conference Proves It's Finally Learned How to Pace Properly

eLarkos

@get2sammyb Yea I understand why people are talking about it and in the same light its similar to people watching a movie and commenting about it.
You know what, it could actually just be the word 'pacing' which makes me cringe. It seems so pretentious - and unfortunately that word is becoming more descriptive of the gaming community by the day.

I think im having a grandpa (hate on the new school) moment. Not once when I used to play my old systems did me and my friends care about anything apart from the games enjoyment factor. We sure as heck were not discussing "pacing"!

Re: Sony Sued $5 Million Over PS4 Shooter Killzone: Shadow Fall's Graphics

eLarkos

tbh I know nothing about this case. I will say that if indeed its not actually 1080p by definition and GG have deceived (no matter how big or small) then they definitely deserve whats coming to them. Consumers are manipulated enough as it is, we sure as hell don't need to be lied to and we sure as hell shouldn't be sticking up for a company who is doing it to us.

Re: Feature: What Went Wrong with PlayStation Mobile?

eLarkos

I have great faith in Playstation Now. In saying that, they need to ensure they fix all the points this article made if it is to be successful.

Buy an awesome android tablet. Buy an awesome gamepad. Enjoy the increasingly awesome game library.

THE best accessory to this equation = Playstation games! (ok, maybe Nintendo games ;p )

More and more people are buying gamepads for iOS and Android and no company can compete with Playstation Nows library.

Right price, marketing, game selection, and Playstation now will not only be a hit with the slightly-more-than-casual gamer but also with the hardcore gamer. Sorry Vita, you were sh*t house from the beginning.

Edit: Please Sony, don't be so stupid as to lock this to your own hardware. Let people enjoy your service and let it act as a flag to remind people how awesome of a company you are. Then once the service is successful and if you really want, advertise your xperia phone series as the best place to enjoy PS Now e.g. Something corny like "xperia muiti-illumnious display gives superior contrast and refresh rate for the high intense PS Now situations"

Re: Fancy a Jill Sandwich? The Original Resident Evil Spooks PS4 in 1080p

eLarkos

Its funny how when a new visual tech comes to movies (e.g. HD, 3D, 4K) the first thing I want them to do is remake the classics so I can watch their brilliance all over again in stunning 3D (4k etc). Yet when it comes to games, people really have an issue with remaking classics.

It really should be said for the people that dont know - These remakes are 95% of the time not made by the creative developers in the industry, the developers who develop the great new games that we are all longing for. Even in the case of TLoU remaster, yes it was ND however it would have been the ground level programers and developers making it. Not the high level creatives potentially working on the next great thing.

If you are still worried that these games are stopping new original titles, I think you might need to realise that without these "easy cash" games no new AAA games could be made. The industry is rough at the moment.

Re: No Man's Sky Will Fly to Other Formats After PS4

eLarkos

This is never going to be able to live up to its hype. We hardly know a thing about the game but people on the internet are going crazy because it generates worlds. Of course I hope this is good, but man im feeling shady about this one.

Re: PlayStation Hardware Sales Leave Xbox in the Dust

eLarkos

@Shaolin. You repeated yourself. Read my comment again (and again).

My analogy is spot on. You want to know the game? How would knowing the game help you? Because now you know what other scores are? - Yea thought so. Context. Its required.

Im so far from a console fan boy its not funny. Dont know why you said that. I haven't been defending Sony or anything.

You just continue to Wittradict yourself. (It's a new word )

Re: PlayStation Hardware Sales Leave Xbox in the Dust

eLarkos

@Shaolin That they are reporting on Playstation success! Just like you asked. Its not necessarily balanced reporting at all. You are the one not wanting xbox mentioned. To then go and say they should mention other xbox results to make it balanced reporting is completely contradictory. Either its one sided sony talk or its balanced reporting. Which one do you want?

Oh and by the way, its absolutely necessary to include the competitions results to provide context. Pretty hard to celebrate something if you have no idea if its good or not.

Heres a really cool statistic for you: Im really good at this game I just downloaded. Im at level 13!!! Super amazing huh?

You're the only one wittering on here.

Re: PlayStation Hardware Sales Leave Xbox in the Dust

eLarkos

@Shaolin Sammy mentioned Xbox statistics which directly related to the topic, a Sony centred article - Sony currently selling the most consoles in the industry.

Then you say that you don't want him to mention Xbox at all, clearly not understanding that statistics without context are simply numbers. The article would be pointless without the relevant xbox sales.
Then you go and say 'well if you are going to mention xbox you may as well mention software sales'. - as you stated, Xbox sold the most software. This article has nothing to do about software because Sony isn't leading that category.

Would you like the author to write articles about categories that Sony is winning in and only focus on Sony products? (I think you do because you clearly stated that) or would you like the author of a Sony centric site (unintended alliteration FTW) to include additional information about Xbox where Sony isn't winning?

Your comment was completely contradictory.

Re: Don't Diss PS4 Racer DriveClub's Framerate Until You Try It

eLarkos

Frame rate for me is definitely important. It would never stop me trying a game but it could certainly stop me from enjoying it to the fullest.

I do think its interesting though that some of this website and/or its readers seem to defend this RACING games lower frame rate and then go ahead and praise other next gen games for being at 60fps like its a great thing.
There have literally been entire articles on this website boasting about how the next gen version of a game will support 60fps, and similarly, the comments in those articles state how much better the game is going to look once its played because of the frame rate.

@Demi_God In my instance the whole reason why I care about frames is due exactly to the fact that I DO game. You wont see me complaining if a game doesn't have the latest particle effects etc. You're right on the whole vocal minority thing.

Re: Sony: PS4's Christmas Lineup Compares 'Very, Very Well' to Xbox One

eLarkos

@Gamer83 "you fund Sunset Overdrive while other developers get their games together for next year"
Im assuming you are talking about Sonys first party devs, in which case u have missed my point.

I definitely get what you are saying and not trying to say you are wrong as It would obviously be marvellous if Sony could produce every game under the sun or even just this one game.

However to say its just one game or not is irrelevant as we dont know the financial situation of Sony. (Sneaky suspicion it aint great). What we do know overall is where we think their primary focus in game development should be - owned IPs.

As for VR, I think we definitely sit on different sides of the fence on that one. R&D of any sort is how a company lasts longer than a day. You take the hits with the misses. If all Sony did this gen was try to pump out as many ps4 games as possible, in the current (continuing) state of the industry, there would be no need for a ps5 - regardless of how well the ps4 sells.

Re: Sony: PS4's Christmas Lineup Compares 'Very, Very Well' to Xbox One

eLarkos

@Gamer83 The reason why Sony has a "plethora" of IPs is due to the fact that they DONT implement this strategy. Having a great roster of IPs is not easy or cheap work. Resources (money) are limited.
As Sammy pointed out, isnt using your limited resources on IPs you own, control and can develop a better strategy? Its simply not possible to fund one hit wonders AND focus on having the best IP in the business. I completely understand Sonys decision on this one.

Re: Could Minecraft Be the PlayStation Vita's Secret Killer App?

eLarkos

@voodoo341 exactly. All other devices may not have the "full" version but who cares.
This guy making the video uses his kids as an example of ppl wanting the vita version. Their dad makes videogame youtube vids for goodness sake. They prob eat video games for breakfast. They literally represent 0.001% of normal kids.
I have many young (rich) cousins in law here in brazil who are glued to their ipads playing Minecraft. Not a single one has a slight interest in purchasing a vita for Minecraft.

I think a better representation of how much impact this game will have is by how many ppl cared it was on show at e3. Ppl at e3 are the type of ppl who might actually fork out a few hundred for a new console. Even he said it in his video that it barely had any interest.

I honestly cant believe people think this game could potentially be some killer app vita life saver. I guess its the same people who thought vita would be successful. Completely out of touch with real world consumers.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida Doesn't Understand People Who Don't Like Indie Games

eLarkos

@get2sammyb "after all, we're partly responsible for driving the industry in this direction."
We as consumers are COMPLETELY responsible for this! In a creative industry demand drives the market. There is no resource constraint (besides money!) creating a shortage of supply which is effecting the market. It is purely that we as consumers are not purchasing these middle tier products.

I feel for the devs. How many articles on this website gloat about the graphics of a game in the headline? Many. The reality is that people care a lot about visual fidelity of a game, and for some it is the most important part and for many it is a deal breaker. Middle devs simply cant afford to keep up with consumers demands.

Unfortunately for me the middle tier games are generally my favourite - unique, often creative games with the funding to see them fully fleshed out gameplay wise.
Fortunately for me the indie space is maturing and growing to a place where you would swear some of these games are middle-top tier.

Re: Video: This is What Pro Evo 2015 Will Look Like In Motion

eLarkos

@Boerewors Slightly off topic but supporting/loving a football team is quite often not irrational. I have a strong connection to my local rugby team. Students I went to school with are now playing, the famous players have done great work in our community through charity etc. You can extrapolate these rational reasons to a more distant level as well - regional team, national team.

Now supporting PES over FIFA I can agree is irrational. Still, I dislike EA, thats enough reason for me to pick PES.

Re: Now a Second Sony Exec Says That the Firm's Not Making More 'Mega Budget' First-Party Vita Games

eLarkos

@charlesnarles Yea a difference with the PSP though is that it had only the DS as competition. No iphones etc. So what that meant is that everyone (kid) wanting to play games while waiting for their mum to get her hair cut or away on vacation would need a PSP (or DS). Now all those people (kids) just use an iPhone to get their fix. That means the only people that are left for Sony to target are their core gamers. If PS4 game sales are a measure to go by, their core gamers want big screen, increasingly pretty, cinematic experiences. No third party (or first party!) is going to put money into making a GTA for Vita when there is hardly anyone to buy it.

Obviously im generalising but this is business.
