Re: Talking Point: Is This Gaming's Most Disappointing Ever Year?

eLarkos

@get2sammyb I just think that in 6/7/8 years the industry will be very different and it will no longer be playing in Sonys strengths. I really believe that the only reason Sony was so successful this time around was because they played to the Spec geeks well. They have not outperformed on any other measure compared to their competition and I dont see that strategy working next gen.
I know many pass off Apple, Google etc as casual competitors but whats stopping that changing at the flick of a switch? I believe you stated that its Third parties who are running this industry at the moment. AppleTV - Rockstar, Nexus TV - Ubisoft collaborations could happen at the drop of a hat. My prediction is that its just a matter of time. This of course will only be a gamechanger if gamestreaming becomes the norm/majority... Which i also think will happen.

Re: Talking Point: Is This Gaming's Most Disappointing Ever Year?

eLarkos

This year in gaming has proved a few things to me:
*This is the last significant generation for Sony
*Nintendo are here to stay
*The next gen is going to look very different

I haven't had an overly disappointing gaming year as my 3ds is ridiculously packed with quality games and my macbook has been able to keep up with most of the big third party releases. There is zero, and I repeat zero, reason for me to be messing around with the PS4 at this stage. The exclusives are not even close to some of the best games released this year. I dont have time to play ever game released so they can be happily skipped.

Re: Review: Nano Assault Neo-X (PlayStation 4)

Nintendolife score = 8
Pushsquare score = 5

This actually helps me with judging further review scores from you guys. Of course, the content of the review is always far more informative than a number out of ten.

Re: Sony's Still Bleeding Money, But PS4's in Beast Mode

eLarkos

@get2sammyb Im going to have to completely disagree with you here.

I think exclusives are the ONLY thing relevant to Sony and Nintendo.
If third-partys are all that matter then I believe Sony is truly in trouble and will be dead before no time.

Lets take it to the extreme and remove all first party products (please pull me back from the extreme if you think im off point). This means that the only things differentiating the systems are the hardware, services and OS.
Do you really believe that Sony is better than Microsoft in these 3 areas?
My answer is a firm no. Maybe on hardware, due to design. But I would argue that hardware is the least important of those 3 categories moving into the future.

The only reason I choose Sony over MS at the moment is because I prefer their first party games (and because they chose to go with better specs).

Nintendo are protected from the industry because they continue to do their own thing. Console gaming is moving directly into MS strong points. DriveClub, PSN, anyone??

Wait for Apple, Google. Bye bye Sony. PSNow is what they need to be doubling down on. And even then, I doubt Sony's ability to compete with Apple, google, MS in cloud gaming.

My answer for why the Wii U isnt doing well... SPECS AND MOAR POWAH.

@ToOGoodOfAPlaya Companies have many different methods in which they can compete. Price is a major strategy in which by they can differentiate themselves from the competition, however it is not the only method. Consumers in all markets are sensitive to different degrees of different strategies. For example, women who buy make up can receive a 'free' makeup bag. This free bag most certainly costs the producer however their research states that a free bag has more influence on the consumer than a simple drop in price by a few dollars - everyone loves a free bag!! The PS+ games are most certainly a cost to Sony (a calculated cost whether it be direct or indirect) and they most certainly could substitute the calculated cost for a price drop. Clearly Sony thinks 'free games' sounds more appealing than a few bucks off the subscription each month.
Sony are not your loving best friend. You are certainly paying for the PS+ games and more power to you the sooner you understand this concept.

Re: Er, Where's the PS3 Version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas?

eLarkos

ahhh your wording is messing with my mind - "So, is there still hope for a PS3 version? We hope so." So you hope there is hope?

This isn't really that big of a deal anyway. The achievements are great for people that way inclined however if its only a resolution bump rather than the full "HD" treatment (better textures etc) its not really anything new. PC gamers have been able to play like this for a long time now. Sure, we are now talking consoles but i'm just saying.

Re: Could Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas HD Be on the Way?

eLarkos

My fav is Vice City. Loved that game so much when it came out but SA is def a close second.

The last paragraph of the article reads weird. You praise the game and its re-release in what seems like great excitement and then the last short sentence hits with a sharp contrast. Maybe its just me.

Re: Sony's Smallest Console Will Soon Support Four Player Remote Play

eLarkos

@KALofKRYPTON Definitely not certain on this but im pretty sure that splitting a single screen and sending the "splits" to different screens are almost identical in terms of processing power. Its just the resolutions of each screen that would hurt the processing. Maybe there would be wifi issues though.

Re: Sony's Smallest Console Will Soon Support Four Player Remote Play

eLarkos

@Bad_muthaAdebis Yea, I hear ya. I just think that the majority of sales of this thing will go to PS4 owners as there are just way too many better options for TV streaming. Purely for gaming purposes (without a connected PS4) is surely an incredibly niche market. Remember that many of the alternative streaming services offer at least some form of casual gaming. So the already niche market for PS TV gaming is now reduced to people who strictly want Playstation gaming.

Re: Sony's Smallest Console Will Soon Support Four Player Remote Play

eLarkos

@WARDIE This device has been available in Japan for quite some time now and it is selling extremely poorly - along with all other home consoles.

I actually believe that its biggest market will be the US. It is heavily reliant on a good internet connection for its main features and the US are also very TV centric. With that being said, there are just far too many better alternatives in the US right now. Im sure a few PS4 owners will pick one up, but those numbers wont even be worth talking about. An argument could be made that the poorer nations will adopt the PS TV because of its low price point. I don't believe this for numerous reasons.

Re: DriveClub Dev Considering Compensation Options for Disastrous Launch

eLarkos

@KALofKRYPTON You have missed the point of almost everything I said. The MLK example was neither a civil nor consumer rights point of argument. For goodness sake.

No one is evil. No one is happy with the server problems. I never once stated or implied either of those. What I have implied is that they care about the dollar more than they care about you. You are incredibly naive to think that these companies would actively work to make as much change without the outpour of anger that rightfully comes from the consumers. The only reason that the media has covered (and continues to cover) the issue is because of the voice of consumers. Lets thank the media though, not the people "whinging". Once again you are incredibly naive to think that Evolution Studios would be working just as hard to resolve this issue if only people who emailed, used twitter etc contacted them. You are completely devaluing the collective power of the "whingers" on every website such as PushSquare. I would go as far as saying that the whole reason they are in such a predicament and working around the clock right now is directly related to the thousands of "whingers" not your politely worded email. Ok, maybe in conjunction with your email.

I have no idea whatsoever the point you are trying to make by mentioning modern day consumer business practices. All it does is highlight exactly how Playstation and all other companies now need to (and for the most part are) increasingly listen to their consumers. You know, the "whingers" who you are saying are worthless. Now more than ever have the millions of voices online been as powerful as they are. Microsoft, Xbox, Online only, restrictive DRM - Guess it was the emails to the Xbox Chief that made them do a massive 180. That had nothing to do with the thousands of "whingers".

Carry on living in your politely worded email world but don't go telling the rest of us to not make noise on websites because Evolution Studios doesn't care.

Re: DriveClub Dev Considering Compensation Options for Disastrous Launch

eLarkos

@KALofKRYPTON You will accept free DLC although it's no thanks to you. You say the voice has been raised enough. How do you know that? Have you seen any change? My mum told me not to quit until I have seen change, not when I have been told to.

You're so caught up on the civil rights thing I wish I had used another example. Which one can you look at objectively? Just use that one if you need to. There was no deflection intended whatsoever, however, there was a very clear cut point made. Once again its ironically you who is creating any deflection of the point at hand.

I will continue with my discontent of the situation until the appropriate change has been made. You feel free to continue with your acceptance of unacceptable business practices (try to figure them out without me listing them one by one) and name calling to the people who rightfully so demand better.

Let me state this one more time, im well aware of the importance (or lack thereof) of this situation. Dont let my disagreement with your attitude delude you from how much signifigance im actually putting on this. The issue is real, the issue is relatively minor. Doesn't mean we shouldn't continue to do something about it.

Re: DriveClub Dev Considering Compensation Options for Disastrous Launch

eLarkos

@KALofKRYPTON oh please, get off it.

Im not a child, nor an idiot. Exaggeration is used to highlight a specific point of argument and is a valid tool. If you cant objectively see the point I raised without getting emotional on its surrounding factors then that's your issue. Your comment insinuating that I am belittling the civil rights movement is ironically the offensive statement.

You get my point or not? You having a cry or not?

I think we need to continue to "whinge" until this industry sorts it's crap out.

You're happy with the word of a for-profit company telling you to be quiet because they are doing their best. Good luck with that and please dont download any of the free DLC that may be coming your way because be sure that if everyone forgave your friends Evolution studios there would be none coming.

Re: DriveClub Dev Considering Compensation Options for Disastrous Launch

eLarkos

@KALofKRYPTON Do you think that if people had not complained extensively about this issue and just carried on their merry way that Evolution Studios would be considering the idea of compensation? (which in this case the consumer most definitely deserves) I think not. I think nothing would happen and the possibilities of this being repeated would be significantly higher.

There is no difference between "voicing issues and whining like children" besides your scientific opinion. Have you stopped to consider that not everyone effected by this issue has the age, maturity and vocabulary to satisfy your definition of "Voicing an opinion"? All people have the right to be angry and Evolution Studios needs to hear it loud and clear that this is not on.

Im just glad that I am seeing an increasing amount of people dissatisfied by the way the gaming industry is treating them and starting to make a stand.

You say that Evolution Studios is already talking about solutions, why do you think that is? I guess we all may as well stay positive now and thank Evolution Studies for "already talking about solutions".

Should MLK have stopped voicing his opinion and started to have compassion when white people said they will start considering solutions? I guess every uneducated black person in the US should have shut up and stopped whinging too? Ridiculous. I think you can tell that exaggeration has been used here to illustrate a point.

This is not the end of the world, far from it. I can assure you I know exactly where the significance of this issue stands. Consumer rights are something that we must ensure are enforced and protected.

Re: DriveClub Dev Considering Compensation Options for Disastrous Launch

eLarkos

@KALofKRYPTON HA! I bet Evolution Studios love people like you. I guess any activist is a whinger in your eyes. MLK, Kate Shepherd?? It's not up to you to tell people what is and isn't important to them. If everyone was like you then NOTHING would get done. I hope you thank all the whingers in the past who vocalised their want for better and better consoles and put pressure on Sony to release PS2,3,4. I guess the people who said the PS1 isnt good enough anymore are whingers?
Many people are rightfully pissed off at this DriveClub situation and people like you implying other people shouldnt complain is not how progress is made.

Re: MineCraft Builds a Brick House on PlayStation Vita Next Week

eLarkos

@rastamadeus You should stop being surprised. The Vita is a poor product. Always was. Im not sure if you agree or realise that but Sony now does. They are not going to start pumping advertising dollars into a system no one* wants.
Any mobile device running a K1 chip will absolutely blow the Vita out of the water. And yes, the games on Android/iOS are good AND getting a hell of a lot better. Lets remember, the Vitas ONLY point of improvement over the 3ds was twin sticks and specs. Now we have an array of cheap controllers and much more powerful devices.
Im going to have a laugh for a second.... They released a Vita with 3g!

  • "I love Sony, Vita is the bestest"

Re: Feature: What Do You Get in DriveClub: PS Plus Edition on PS4?

eLarkos

It's a demo. A free demo that arrived nearly a year late. Far from what was advertised back when Sony was desperate for people to pump money into their wallets. Well, Sony got your money, did you get your game?

@Bad-MuthaAdebis Morpheus isn't even close to being ready for release. Perhaps in the future when the Morpheus tech is better the old man wont feel so sick and it will get the green light for a patch.
