Re: Guide: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age Jobs - The Job System and Choosing Jobs

tabris95

@ShogunRok Oh, one more question. I always had a problem with damage dealing through Magick in the original towards late game. Basically casting time and spell animation coupled with a damage cap of 9999 meant that my spells were always less efficient than using melee weapons that could land multiple hits all at the damage cap of 9999. Now that your characters get locked into their Jobs, is it worth having a Magick damage dealer, or will they just fall off and become less effective later?

Re: Hands On: Final Fantasy XII on PS4 Is a Strong Reminder of How Great the Series Used to Be

tabris95

Honestly after getting a bit older and playing a large variety of JRPGs, I've found that the Final Fantasy series has never been that challenging, the stories never that interesting, and the characters never that well written. And I'm saying that as someone who loves VII, VIII, IX, and X. Suikoden does a better political story, Persona has a much more well written cast, mainline SMT and it's offshoots have a far grander sense of scale, difficulty and some even bring in meaningful player choice. Xeno-series has stronger Sci-fi elements and world building, and even Trails and Tales Of can do most of what I've said above with a nice anime flavor for those who like that sort of thing. What I'm saying is how good really was the Final Fantasy series and where does it belong among all these other stellar JRPG series?

Re: Review: Tekken 7 (PS4)

tabris95

How many Characters were added? How many are there total now? Does everyone feel balanced in such a large line up? Can I play as Tiger?? Are there still super silly and out of place ending videos for certain characters? Is there an absurd amount of cosmetic items that range from cool to ridiculous?? These are the things I need to know about my Tekken games!!

Re: Naughty Dog's Four Jak & Daxter Titles Are Coming to PS4

tabris95

Ok silly question. I haven't played any of these. What are they like? I always imagined they were kind of like an evolution of Banjo-Kazooie but just never got to playing them. I got the PS4 reboot of Ratchet & Clank but felt a bit underwhelmed. Should I be interested in any of these games or just be happy I'm getting Yooka-Laylee real soon?

Re: Video: Does Yooka-Laylee Delight on the PS4?

tabris95

Thank you so much for this video. I really hope you don't end up regretting putting it up lol. I backed this so I'll be feverishly playing it regardless but consider the lines thoroughly read between for this video. Sounds like they were accurate to a fault when recreating the N64 era design philosophy and that's going to limit it's accessibility a lot for anyone that isn't picking this up out of sheer nostalgia for classics like Banjo-Kazooie simply because these design choices and formula have been improved upon since the 90s. Luckily for me, Banjo-Kazooie is still one of my favorite games and I can't wait!

Re: Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Director's Cut Announced for PS4

tabris95

Okay so please don't hate me but I'm pretty sure this game hasn't aged very well. Is an HD remaster really a good call? This kind of came out during a time when voice acting standards were very low and the anime and JRPG community were clamoring for any generic JRPG that sported blue hair on the cover. I can see why they would remaster Final Fantasy XII but not this.

Re: Review: Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

tabris95

Have a lot in my backlog that I'm working on right now but I do have both this and Zelda: Breath of the Wild coming day one. So the real question for me is which one do I play first? They're both open world RPGs after all.

Re: Some of These Plans for Final Fantasy XV Sound Insane

tabris95

@kyleforrester87 I mean, additional content is always nice and appreciated, but things like character development and motivations as well as pacing for the final chapters should have been ironed out before hand. What I'm saying is you only get to experience the game for the first time once and some of what's being patched shouldn't have had to be patched.

Re: Some of These Plans for Final Fantasy XV Sound Insane

tabris95

Too little too late. This is why you finish games before releasing them. Most of their most loyal fan base already completed the game. No amount of patches and DLC is going to fix the first time experience for most of the people it actually matters to, the longtime fans that waited 10 years for a game that released unfinished.

Re: Review: God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4)

tabris95

Umm. Literally the first thing I did after making my character was access the in game archive and watched the video tutorial for performing the Long Blade's Zero-Stance. There's tutorial videos for all kinds of advanced tactics to help you master the combat.

Re: Hands On: No Man's Sky PS4 Is As Bemusing As It Is Beautiful

tabris95

Pretty boring so far to be honest. Yes the lack of a proper tutorial can be frustrating and will bother some more than others, but it's the lack of narrative, direction, and purpose that really gets to me. Outside of collecting materials so you can move on to the next area to collect more materials, there doesn't seem to be a lot to do and that just isn't engaging at all to me. Obviously I haven't played a lot and I hope it opens up more options to dig into but right now I'd rather play a game like Xenoblade Chronicles X and explore one amazing planet with tons to do, than this with billions of boring planets with barely anything in them.

Re: Review: Oxenfree (PS4)

tabris95

Looks like someone put their vocabulary to use for this review. This game was patched just in time for the PS4 release right? I heard it was supposed to include more endings and something akin to a new game plus mode. I don't know if I'm right but I would have loved to see it mentioned in this review as well as just replayability in general.

Re: We're Not Entirely Sold on Star Ocean 5's English Dub

tabris95

You guys are funny. This is the Final Fantasy X Tidus laugh scene all over again. Most of those voice actors are seasoned pros and know what they are doing. Crispin Freeman is extremely passionate about voice acting. There's a difference between poor acting and a poor script. These actors can't help if they were told to deliver it this way. So guess what? If you don't like this dub, you probably don't like cheesey Shonen anime dubs either, because this is more or less what this game is aiming to be, because let's face it, Star Ocean has always been Square Enix's Tales of franchise.

Re: Beyond: Two Souls Ghosts to PS4 Next Week

tabris95

@DualWielding I believe it was an intentional choice to attempt to immerse the player and have them feel the same frustration as Jodie over the lack of control over her life. It was an important theme. Telling the story out of chronological order also allowed for the dev team to sprinkle in action and grand set pieces in places they wouldn't normally be in order to help the pacing. There is actually a video on YouTube that plays through the entire game in chronological order and the first like 3 hours of it are super boring because all of the big momemts happen much later in her life. So the game was never meant to be about choice but more about what it's like to be Jodie and live her messed up life.

Re: Review: Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea (PlayStation 3)

tabris95

This reminds me of the PS2 NISA game Ar Tonelico 2 where spots were left untranslated as well as a game breaking glitch where a major plot boss at the very end of the game would crash your game if he performed a certain attack that he is guaranteed to do in about 5 turns or less, a glitch that was suspiciously nowhere to be found in the original Japanese game, even though NISA themselves said it wasn't from their end. Great job NISA! at least this bug can be patched unlike in the PS2 era. :/
