Re: PS5 Hardware Resurges in UK After Dismal Start to the Year

Apfelschteiner

Don't forget that Xbox is gaining market share from a terrible base level and still only because their main direct competitor cannot meet demand. It is actually nice that there is a bit of competition. Maybe now PlayStation can sort out some glaring faults like no global quick resume function and dumb stuff like uploads of PS4 game data.

Re: PS5 Fans Hope Mind Blowing Unreal Engine 5 Demo Is a Glimpse of the Future

Apfelschteiner

This does look incredible.
The Matrix demo was cool and all, but actually, I was underwhelmed when I finally played it and it didn't blow me away graphically. Obviously it wasn't the point, but the gameplay was so dull that I didn't really take a look around the open world bit.
I want new generation to mean that we can go into all the buildings and interact way more with the world.
It's really cool for developers that they can create all that very quickly, but it needs to be refined more to make it worth playing.

Re: Sony's Bungie Buyout to Be Investigated by the FTC

Apfelschteiner

@Cutmastavictory I don't think I said that. I'm sure that the majority of the people at Bungie are pro-abortion, so it's probably an honest opinion. In no way do the views of the company reflect the views of the fans. For sure a lot of them will agree, but a lot of them will not. My point is that it is inappropriate for Bungie to express their opinion on an issue that is so polarized. It's almost as bad as them coming out in favour a political candidate.
It is a very ill-informed opinion to express because the Supreme Court Judiciaries are duty-bound to follow the Constitution, so correcting a poor interpretation of the Constitution is not a political act, therefore a political response is not appropriate.
The problem is that these companies are playing a very dangerous game. Are people who strongly disagree with their views going to boycott their games? The reason I find it so upsetting is that it is yet another example of how society is becoming more polarized. They can't just put the genie back in the bottle. It is incredibly damaging to think that we can't work and play together if we don't agree on every political issue. We used to accept that our political opponents held their views sincerely.

Re: Sony's Bungie Buyout to Be Investigated by the FTC

Apfelschteiner

@Cutmastavictory Basically it is very toxic to start moralizing on an issue that has people on both side who have good intentions. I'd rather have politics in games than in the discussion about games. The other thing to consider is that leftists have privilege in gaming and there is a chilling effect on people who have contary views as they do not feel able to express themselves. Basically this whole situation just makes a really toxic environment.

Re: Sony's Bungie Buyout to Be Investigated by the FTC

Apfelschteiner

@Cutmastavictory It's up to Bungie as a business, but it's not a great business decision to alienate half the country. It's also incredibly damaging to come out against the constitution.
It really annoys me that there is no diversity in the gaming industry and the industry is worse off for it. Just look at how the guy making the Last Night was persecuted because he had slightly right of centre views, but straight-up communists can make Disco Elysium and no-one bats an eye.

Re: Final Fantasy 16 Trailer Coming Soon, Game's Basically Complete

Apfelschteiner

@munstre Maybe I'll get more interested when the trailers come out, but I loved FFXV and platinumed it even. I just don't have a whole lot of desire to play more than one game in certain series unless they really grab me. I'd be fine if developers just stopped making games for a couple of year because the thought of playing some of these incredibly long games just stresses me out at the moment.

Re: Outriders Has so Far Failed to Turn a Profit for Square Enix

Apfelschteiner

@Korgon Exactly, Square was really doing something wrong as Hitman is doing really well now. Surely they could have kept ownership of IO and just let them run the company for them? Making the second reboot game an Xbox exclusive was a really bad move and probably putting Outriders on gamepass was probably also a bad business move.

Re: Sony's Bungie Buyout to Be Investigated by the FTC

Apfelschteiner

This is quite a small-scale acquisition so it shouldn't make much difference.
I have no particular love for Bungie.
It made my soul cry when they put out a statement condemning a Supreme Court ruling. I wish gaming companies would just appreciate that they have customers on both sides of the argument who hold their views solemnly.

Re: Ghostwire: Tokyo Given First Digital Discount in Deal of the Week

Apfelschteiner

@deadliner Just look at the context. It was pretty obvious.

I'm a little younger than you. I had a Sega Master System, an N64, Gameboy Color, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, Wii, Nintendo DS, PS4, and now a PS5. I only ever have one console at a time and maybe a handheld. I've never felt the need to have more than one. I guess it's better that way as it left me time to get some social skills. My daughter has a Switch Lite, but I never really feel the desire to play it. I might get a TV Switch for the younger kids to play Mario Kart.
Being a father you must appreciate how busy life is with young kids. Maybe in your day you didn't think to help out your wife with the kids and you had an easy job where you made a lot of money. It's way more competive these days. Don't disparage people working hard in jobs you may consider demeaning.
Gaming is not a huge part of my life, it's just a hobby. Maybe I'd like to have more time for gaming, but I wouldn't trade my family life to be a loser in a basement. Maybe, I'll catch up on some gaming when I'm retired.

Re: Ghostwire: Tokyo Given First Digital Discount in Deal of the Week

Apfelschteiner

@deadliner You made it sound like I was saying the game was only on PS5, when you knew that on a PlayStation fansite clearly PS5 only meant not PS4.
Also, how old are you that you have all this time to play all these consoles? When you get older and have responsibilities, there is very limited gaming time and it's certainly not worth splitting it between multiple machines.

Re: Best RPGs on PS5

Apfelschteiner

@TheArt They should give Yakuza 7 a negative point for not having fully-voiced dialog. Japanese developer still feel like they can get away with cheap production values. They should have used the money for the English voices to pay the Japanese actors to voice all of the dialogue.

Re: Ghostwire: Tokyo Given First Digital Discount in Deal of the Week

Apfelschteiner

@ORO_ERICIUS I would buy it in Germany on PSN or I could buy it physically from the UK. 33% off is a big amount, but somehow that price still feels high. Digital games have to be cheaper than physical to make me buy them. I don't really swap games with anyone anyway. I'm fine with paying that price, but my problem is that if I buy a game, it makes me feel like I should be playing it straight away. If I buy it and play it in a year, it will definitely be at least 50% somewhere or in some sale.

Re: Ghostwire: Tokyo Given First Digital Discount in Deal of the Week

Apfelschteiner

@deadliner That's a disingenuous argument. This is a PlayStation forum, therefore when I say PS5 only, I mean not PS4. Of course I know that the studio that produced the game is owned by Microsoft and the game will be on game pass in a year. Xbox and PC are irrelevant to my gaming life, if a game is not on PlayStation I won't play it.

Re: Ghostwire: Tokyo Given First Digital Discount in Deal of the Week

Apfelschteiner

@Relygon The game being set in Tokyo bumps the score up by one for me as does the game being one of a handful of PS5 only games. I don't really fancy Returnal. I love Nioh (currently playing Nioh 2) and Seikiro, and I will probably get round to Elden Ring, and maybe Demon Souls if it's on PS+, but I have plenty to be getting through with just those two games.

Re: Sadly, There Are Currently No Plans for Shenmue 4

Apfelschteiner

@Bentleyma I enjoyed Shenmue III, but the concept was really poor to keep the gameplay exactly the same. There are some basic quality of life improvements that would have been easy to implement whilst keeping the essence of Shenmue. The choice to Kickstart the game was either one borne of desperation or, was very damaging as it set unreasonable expectations to stay too close to the orignal games.

Re: Sony Dumps Funds into Live Service Software Firm

Apfelschteiner

@Rural-Bandit It really is subjective whether people should get two different consoles. I have no need for another console. It would just be a waste of money and adding to an already long backlog. I could imagine my kids getting a Switch. There is absolutely no reason why we'd ever need/want an Xbox.
