Haven't commented on these for a while here since my recent gaming endeavors have been Nintendo-centric affairs, but after taking a much needed break I'll be getting back into Final Fantasy XIV tonight. I also plan to at least finish my current run of Secret of Mana by the time the weekend is out.
I honesty wish major publishers would stop doing this crap. If you're going to announce that info will be available, then give us info on what the game is. This is just going to lead to speculation. I know I can't speak for everyone, but I personally don't want speculation, I want straight-up info about the game. Quit jerking us around and give us something concrete other than "new character, check back in a month"!
Having worked at GameStop around the time they started doing this, from what I could tell it was mostly internal; it would still count as the sale of a specific game in the context of sales for that particular store location (higher-ups tended to grade a store's perfomance when it came to sales of certain releases). One could also be eligible for store-exclusive pre-order content if they preferred a digital copy and wanted that content.
Basically copy-pasting what I said on Nintendo Life that it doesn't matter to me either way, as with the way the games industry is going, I'm probably not going to by a new console anyway
"At this point it's also worth mentioning that the game's microtransactions weren't live during the review process. However, over the course of two playthroughs, we had acquired more than enough red orbs to unlock everything that we wanted or needed. With that in mind, we're going to assume that the incoming microtransactions won't make any meaningful difference to the overall experience."
Far too often lately, major publishers have been making stealth changes after release to benefit their microtransaction-based mechanics (even bragging about having no microtransactions at launch and just adding them later), and I don't trust the same sort of thing to not happen here (like increasing the amount of red orbs needed to unlock things).
And I'm just sitting here wondering what it's going to take for Bethesda to realize that the game is a failure and to stop wasting its money trying to go through the motions like everything is fine.
@doctommaso I may have jumped the gun a bit when posting that, but I recall seeing stuff about bugs and stability issues from reviews a few years back. Not sure if they have been fixed by now or not, but another thing that pushed people's buttons was when the devs made their own new expansion and plopped modern-day gender politics in there.
EDIT: The article mentions Seige of Dragonspear, which is that very expansion.
I don't know how I feel about this. I love Baldur's Gate and the other Infinity engine games of the time, but I've heard bad things about the Enhanced Editions (which have been out for quite a while on other platforms)
This is also a major publisher. To them, games never "sell well" because it's never enough for the shareholders. It's like their sales expectations are always at x+1, where x is the number of copies they end up selling.
EA is also a particularly scummy company, though, so I don't care how poorly their games sell. The world would be better off if they went out of business.
Mostly Illusion of Gaia; my goal is to clear that by the end of my short vacation. I'll likely also be getting into old-school Final Fantasy XI as my friend has been telling me about a cool free server that he's on.
I'm still planning on playing the remasters of the other games before I even think about picking up 3, so I will (hopefully) be OK story-wise when I eventually get to it.
Gonna try and get as much done in Final Fantasy XIV as I can before my sub runs out on Monday night (on the fence about taking a break, depends on how active my friends will be). Also digging into Secret of Evermore on SNES for my backlog.
The only thing I'm currently planning on getting for PS4 is the new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV and that's not on the poll. I'm fairly sure a lot of these games are going to be great, but I'm jaded at this point and next to nothing new interests me anymore.
@Jaz007 Possibly, but Koichi Sugiyama has been with the series since the beginning, and is as synonymous with the brand as Yuji Horii and Akira Toriyama are. I don't think they would be looking for someone else anytime soon.
@get2sammyb It's pretty much mostly agreed upon that the score itself is great. The problem is that the composer is a stickler for only wanting people to experience his music in concert or by buying CDs and he won't let Squeenix use the actual orchestration in the game. The result is MIDI format in the game itself. I'm one of like five people that didn't mind this, but a lot of people quite understandably found this unacceptable.
Overall though, this is my personal game of the year.
Mostly Final Fantasy XIV and Earth Defense Force 5, and something I can beat quick (thinking Far Cry Blood Dragon) so I can round out my game clear count for the year at 50.
When I got the Undertale CE for the Switch from Fangamer, it was late getting out as the supplier for the custom slip covers did not get the covers to Fangamer in time. Fangamer proceeded to email me and let me (as well as everyone else who preordered this product) know what was going on. A week later, and the covers were still not there. Fangamer again let me know and stated that they rush ordered temporary replacement covers to get stock to the customers, and would ship the real covers seperately at no extra charge when they were available. They also gave me a discount for my next purchase as an apology.
This is how a good company deals with this situation.
If Bethesda did something like this in the first place, they wouldn't have been in this situation. But lest we forget, Bethesda doesn't care about their customers, and are only doing this to try and save face. Sorry, Todd. It's not working for me. I wasn't even interested in Fallout 76 to begin with and even I feel ripped off. I'm sure the money I would've eventually used to buy Elder Scrolls VI could be put to better use.
I was never interested in Fallout 76 and thus never got it, but this whole fiasco has still shown me how terrible of a company Bethesda is and how much they just don't care. I will not be giving them any more money.
I was a fan of the original games and I've never heard of N7 day... :/ Either way, I wouldn't even buy a remaster of the original trilogy because I made the decision long ago to no longer knowingly give EA money.
They say this now, but lots of developers talk about how they want to make games like these last, and then drop support when next year's holiday release shows up.
While I do plan on putting more progess into Save Me Mr. Tako on the Switch, I will also begin my foray into Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 Remix on PS4. Pray for me.
I'm just trying to knock out a bunch of smaller games on my backlog. Namely Tails Adventure, Dragon Crystal, Ristar, and Castle of Illusion. The fact that they are all Sega games is coincidental.
I'm honestly not interested in Red Dead Revolver 3. I'm distancing myself from acquiring more of these open world-based action games that seem to be the only thing anyone makes anymore.
Since I've finished Dragon Quest XI, Dragon Ball Fusions, and my latest playthrough of Undertale, I'm moving on to quick backlog related stuff. More specifically, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles
I used to use them constantly. Nowadays, I use them when I'm stuck or when I'm playing an old backlogged RPG or adventure game for brevity's sake. Either way, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of a game.
If a game is fun enough to not make getting a platinum trophy feel like a chore, then that is a sign of a well crafted game, indeed. I'll put this on my radar for later.
Between work and other stuff at home, I'll try to play as much Dragon Quest XI as I can. I also have Dragon Ball Fusions on 3DS that I've been playing on my lunch breaks at work

Re: Will Dragon Quest XI on PS4 Get the New Nintendo Switch Content? Square Enix Hasn't Decided Yet
I know I'm the weird one here, but I bought this on PS4 and I'm double-dipping for the Switch release, so I don't care either way.

Taking a break from Final Fantasy XIV, so I'll be focusing more on Secret of Evermore.
