Re: The Last of Us 2 Has Everyone Talking About PS Vita

Crimson_Ridley

We need answers, Naughty Dog. We need to know how this Vita was kept pristine when the world around it fell apart. We need to know what battery it's running that can keep a charge over 25 years later. We need to know why this girl decided to put earphones in and play the game when survival is of utmost importance, and you need to keep your eyes and ears open at all times.

We also need to know if Sony even recognise that that's a device that they made.

PS4 - Fallout 4
Primarily, I'm a PC gamer but I've been trying to save for a new graphics card, and have gone back to PS4 for a while. I normally only play Fallout 4 with mods, but in the interest of unlocking trophies, I'm playing a vanilla play through and surprisingly, it's still fantastic! I do miss my full dialogue interface though (not that the PS4 allows it anyway... Stupid Sony).

Switch - Animal Crossing New Horizons
Working on redesigning my island so it at least looks like a place that people could live and not just a bunch of animals plonked down in random locations.

Wii U - Super Mario Galaxy
Yes, I still play the Wii U from time to time, and for now I've loaded up the Wii Menu to play some SMG. It's one of few Mario games I never really gave the time to because of just hating everything the Wii stood for, but I'm getting in to it and dealing with the motion controls as best as I can. Still a very beautiful game all these years on.

It's criminal that nobody liked this comment before I did! 🤣

As for the article, as a famous advocate for surviving a trip to the toilet once sang: A little less conversation, a little more action.

I know it's going to be amazing, I'm hoping Sony don't falter like they did the last time they were top of the world and released the PS3, but I'm remaining optimistic. I just want to know pricing, what original experiences will launch with it, and if it's going to be a white console (it better be).

1 - We're in a lockdown, so seeing nature isn't exactly feasible or logical right now.

2 - The same could be said about anything that a person spends a considerable amount of time on. Learning an instrument, dedicating your life to a career, etc.

3 - What a person chooses to do with their time, as long as it makes them happy and doesn't harm another person, is completely their choice.

4 - Have you spoken to this individual and asked them how much time they spent executing this? For me, taking the video at face value, you could come up with this in just a few retries, not hours, certainly not days.

5 - Finally, there are many personal issues that may mean a person cannot live a life such as yours; mobility issues, mental issues, etc. For some people, gaming allows you in to a world that the real one has deemed off-limits to you.

The main thing I can suggest for Hell House on Hard is to save Aerith's 2nd limit level for the 3rd phase, when it has less than 25% HP. The protection will last pretty much the remainder of the battle. Also, kill the Tonberrys that it spawns as soon as possible with Cloud's Triple Slash. I just made sure that Aerith and Cloud had all 4 elements so that I could attack its weakness as soon as it changed element, used the ATB aura with Aerith regularly and tried to stagger it as quickly as possible, then used Ray of Judgement to increase the stagger percentage to get some more damage in.

To me, the first time you fight Hell House, you aren't prepared for how the fight plays out, but once you've gone through the first half of Hard, you'll have a much better grasp on the mechanic, will also know how Hell House fights and thus it actually seems a bit easier to deal with.

Honestly, it wasn't too bad. The combat relies much more on enemy weaknesses and playing defensively. With a maxed Elemental materia, and a maxed Steadfast block, you'll do fine. I just kept checking my Enemy Intel to see which enemies were coming up and adjusted my load out accordingly.
I used the following load out from Powerpyx and it got me through the game perfectly fine:

The hardest bosses (which still weren't too bad) were Hell House and Eligor (the cheeky git casts Reflect on you so you can't heal). You could add Prayer to your load out for that boss, or just cast Arise each time a character dies.

Just finished up the Platinum, and it really was a great game. Definitely an 8/10 for me, would have scored higher if the last 3 chapters didn't suck and turn in to a battle gauntlet. I really liked the new stuff they added to the story, I've played and finished FF7 so many times that it's nice to play it again and not know what to expect, while still seeing very similar story beats that made up the original.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Final Fantasy VII Remake?

@oldschool1987

So far it hasn't been too bad, as long as you know how to set up your materia and play defensively. The main challenge is not running out of MP as the only way to restore it is by smashing crates, and you don't always get a restore from them.

I can think of a few bosses that are probably going to cause trouble, but I've mastered all of my materia and assessed every enemy so I can attack their weaknesses pretty well. I would suggest on your earlier playthrough/s to get used to switching characters and look up some good materia setups for each character.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Crimson_Ridley

I would give it an 8. I'm just going through hard mode now to finish up the Platinum and while it has been an amazing experience, the chapters inside Shinra HQ really left a sour taste for me. One chapter in particular is just a gauntlet and it was incredibly tedious to get through.

I didn't mind how linear the game is, as I'm quite content with games like that, and the original Midgar was the same. I also really enjoyed the additions to the story and unlike most, I'm excited to see where they go from here, but a few chapters just missed the mark and I'm not looking forward to doing them again.

Crimson_Ridley

The Reprieve weapon ability is also a good idea, and is available on at least 1 weapon. For instance, Barrett's Light Machine Gun has this ability to unlock once you reach Weapon Level 6.

The ability itself will let your character survive at 1HP from a hit that would normally kill them, once per battle. Sometimes this can be the deciding factor between a win and a loss.

Also, the 20% MP reduction skill for healing spells. A 12MP Curaga now becomes a 9MP Curaga, meaning you get a 4th heal for free.

Finally, you can get in to a fight, Assess a boss/enemy (or hit the Touchpad if you've already assessed them before) to find their weakness and then pause and retry last battle to be taken to a point just before the battle to set your materia up accordingly (Elemental+whatever will be your best friend in Hard Mode).

Re: Feature: The Evolution of the PlayStation Controller

Crimson_Ridley

The PS4 Dual Shock is the most comfortable and pleasing controller I've ever held, even beating the Gamecube and 360 controller, in my opinion. The DualSense is quickly growing on me, but I'm imagining it to be similar to the Xbox One controller, and I really didn't like that one. The colour is great though, I've always been a fan of white consoles and controllers, so I'd happily keep that as my main controller.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered - FPS Classic Is Worth Revisiting

Crimson_Ridley

"The biggest problem the title faces then is the same design choices which held it back 10 years ago. The older Call of Duty games were infamous for their use of checkpoints, whereby enemies would continuously flood the environment until you progressed far enough through the stage."

I thought MW2 was the first one to have a finite amount of enemies in each section? It's been years since I played it, but I was sure they eventually stopped spawning.

Re: Much More PS5 News Coming in the Months Ahead

Crimson_Ridley

Don't worry, you guys probably still have 100 variations of "PS5 backwards compatability is still incredibly confusing" articles to keep us going for the next week or so. 😉

Seriously though, I don't mind not hearing much for a while, it keeps my hype in check when information comes out closer to a game or console launch.

Re: PS5's Backwards Compatibility with PS4 Has Fans Baffled

Crimson_Ridley

I can completely understand many fans need for backwards compatibility due to finances, convenience or other reasons, but for me personally it has never been a major issue.

I collect consoles so I keep them when a new one comes out, and whilst having the ability to play all my old games on one console is never a bad thing, if all of them don't work, it's not a breaking point for me making my decision to buy the console.

The games and usability is far more important to me, and if the console works as well as the PS4 with the high quality I've come to love with the games, that's all I'm interested in.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Multiplayer Isn't Dead, It's Evolved Into Something Too Big for the Game

Crimson_Ridley

People moaned that multiplayer wasn't included. Now people are moaning that it's a money grab, and making the assumption that it'll be terrible.

How did we become so entitled? Can we not be happy about anything?

This is how Rockstar should have done it with GTA and RD Online, separate them from the main game so that each can be individually updated and save space.

I'm not a fan of multiplayer in any capacity, and though I used to be ignorant and thought that having a multiplayer took away from single player, I'm no longer so foolish. I think this is a great way of making both aspects as strong as each other.

Re: The Internet Is Cross with PlayStation's Name for the X Button

Crimson_Ridley

When used as it was originally intended in Japan (to signify cancel or no), it would be an Ex Mark or Cross Mark so both can be used, and are officially interchangeable.

Circle could also therefore be considered a Tick Mark, as the Japanese regularly use a circle in place of a tick as we do in the West.

X (ex) marks the spot
Noughts and Crosses (X)

The word used varies depending on the situation. The same applies to zero, nought, and O (oh).

If you wanted to be really obscure, you could call it a Saltire.
