Re: Sony Won't Let Microsoft's $69 Billion Activision Acquisition Go, Stresses It's Bad for Gaming

Deoxyr1bose

This has to be the most annoying thing in gaming for a while for me. A company that I don’t like at all gets bought for billions, multi platform games are about to become exclusive, the rightfully earned Activision controversy gets swept under the rug and is the only reason this deal was able to happen, Sony keeps on gassing up Call of Duty like it’s the savior of the industry, and fanboys are now calling for more publishers to be bought.

Hate it here

Re: Poll: Was Sony's Latest State of Play a Show to Remember?

Deoxyr1bose

As a 20 minute showcase with it already setting expectations on Japanese games, that was pretty good. Tekken 8, God of War, the Yakuza Samurai series coming to the west, Rise of the Ronin, and Stellar Blade. Definitely better than the Farm Direct today, everything felt pretty snappy and clean besides some PlayStation Stars stuff, even if there wasn’t a huge showstopper.

Re: Battlefield 2042 Is Bringing Back the Classic Class System, But Not Until Season 3

Deoxyr1bose

Let it be known that Vampire Survivors, an indie game that had no marketing at all that launched only a month later, has double more steam players than Battlefield 2024. This game was such a colossal failure of the Triple AAA gaming landscape, to the point where I genuinely supported policy that would’ve made releases like these way more regulated in terms of polish. EA’s a failure

Re: Pretty PS5, PS4 Platformer Kena: Bridge of Spirits Getting Massive Update

Deoxyr1bose

I can’t overstate how excited I am for this. Kena was easily my 2nd favorite game of 2021 and my favorite singleplayer game of that year. Beyond that, this looks like one of the most hefty free post launch updates I’ve seen in a while. New Game +, Kena Cosmetics, new skills, a new equipment system that doesn’t seem overbearing like certain games yet still seems like it could make a difference, and brand new trials. This is like, something Nintendo would sell for a $60 port.

If you haven’t already please try this out. I can’t be more thankful that it’s coming to Steam so PC players adverse to the EGS will now have it on their radar. Hopefully it’ll come to PS+ in the future.

Re: Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 Still Champions as Evo 2022 Viewer Stats are Revealed

Deoxyr1bose

@nomither6 50/50s are situations where you essentially need to guess between two evenly possible situations. For instance, let’s say a character does a low kick and can either cancel it into a follow up attack or a follow up command grab. You either could block the follow up or attack/jump the command grab, but you have to guess.

Also yeah imo MK looks garbage. The visual clarity is such a mess, and yeah compared to even “realistic” looking games like Tekken 7 and Street Fighter 6 are way more stylized. Not to mention the really bad animations.

Re: Microsoft Accuses Sony of Paying to Block Games from Xbox Game Pass

Deoxyr1bose

This is gonna be an exhausting time closing this deal. It’s just gonna be Sony weirdly hyping up Actiblizz games while Microsoft downplays it. With regards to this accusation, idk it seems possible but it feels weird to throw this out there without any examples, either from MSoft themselves or even stuff like the Capcom and Bandai internal leaks (to my knowledge). Again, wouldn’t be surprised if they did it, it just feels weird to point this out when both developers have paid for exclusivity deals and Xbox has done some uniquely weird stuff themselves like preventing Atlus from announcing the Persona ports to PlayStation consoles at the same time.

Re: The Last of Us: Part I Features an Impressive Suite of Accessibility Options

Deoxyr1bose

Those audio description captions or whatever they’re called that they showed off in the gameplay video was extremely impressive. One of the best parts about the intermingling of Sony studios is that since Last of Us 2, almost all of their games have had top notch accessibility. This is going above and beyond even what god of war ragnarok showed. Really impressed.

Re: God of War Ragnarok Story Synopsis Revealed

Deoxyr1bose

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t the first game only have 3 realms with extended gameplay, while the other just had smaller additional things like that gauntlet side mode or the final section? If all 9 realms have traditional gameplay sequences, then this game is going to be massive.

Re: Guilty Gear Strive Dominates Evo 2022 Player Registrations as Top Fighting Games are Revealed

Deoxyr1bose

Guilty Gear went from not being at the last in person EVO to being the headliner for almost every single FGC event. I know some GG players don’t like the new direction Strive took it, but I feel like everyone should be proud of where it is now. Street Fighter 6 will undoubtedly explode the scene even more, but that’s the fighting game while this has been a side anime fighter. Congrats to ArcSys, and I can’t wait to see where the FGC goes from here.

Re: Sony Set to Buy Esports Tournament Tracking Platform Repeat.gg

Deoxyr1bose

As someone who actually attends FG tournaments, this seems pretty useless. Mainly because almost everything uses Start.gg for fighting games at least, which Microsoft owns. I get wanting a competitor, but it’s not a space worth competing in. All it will do is make the occasional Sony tournament more cumbersome to join because of the irregular platform. Bad move from the perspective of someone who actual uses these platforms.

Re: Sony Officially Acquires Bungie, Accelerates Vision to Create Generation-Spanning Entertainment

Deoxyr1bose

@djlard GaaS are not dying. All the biggest and most popular games in the world are GaaS. The issue is how fiercely competitive and crowded the market is. That’s where publishers struggle, they think they just make any game—no matter the quality—a live service and just expect Fortnite money. This is where Sony is trying to get a foothold with the acquisition. They now have under their umbrella a ton of people who know how a live service works. This acquisition isn’t the best for PlayStation fans directly, but is smart.

Re: Sony Officially Acquires Bungie, Accelerates Vision to Create Generation-Spanning Entertainment

Deoxyr1bose

Sony seems more interested than the talent this acquisition brings than just what would happen with a normal acquisition where they absorb a studio completely. They’re 100% using that extra 1 billion talent retention payment to have them help with upcoming live service games. And from what I’ve heard that’s not entirely bad, I’ve heard a lot of good things about modern Destiny 2 besides the extremely evident and egregious things like sunsetting.

I’m not as doomy as everyone else is about this, additional funding for additional talent probably won’t subtract that much from their current single player developments. The only interesting thing now is that the ink is dried, another acquisition is likely. I don’t want another one anytime soon because I just hate that practice, but I expect it.
