If this is an actual on and off toggle I might actually buy the game again (used, or heavily discounted) and give it another go. I don't know what they smoked but whoever decided the "time limit" to get a puzzle yourself should be minus ten seconds hopefully gets to work on other things next time.
When the reviews popped up I was expecting people to exaggerate. It obviously wasn't gonna be bad or even mediocre. But GOTY material? My cute little robot platformer?
Well, I'm about two thirds into the game - 200ish out of the 304 bots saved - and I gotta say.
This is ACTUALLY game of the year material. The cynic in me wants to attribute that to an absolute dogs*** 2024. Rebirth was great, DD2 was fun but ultimately failed to do what we were told it would.. Uh, what else released this year? Wukong, ig, no interest. I love ZZZ but it's not really a GOTY contender, I'd say.
But Astro Bot does nothing wrong. It's just doing it's thing, which is being pleasant and cute. And it NAILED that. It's a joy to play, there's even a couple challenges to be had here and the bosses are great examples of how you can take Mario's base and improve aspects of that (Mario games suck at doing bosses, without exception)
All the little animations, the music, THE LEVEL DESIGN..it's just a good ass platformer in an industry where we only get indie shlock and 1 (one) Nintendo platformer every couple years if we're lucky. The last good 3d platformer we had was either Kirby Forgotten Land or Crash 4, both released YEARS ago.
I legit hope this shows all those AAA devs that there's a market not only for lower budget projects but also platformers with AAA quality outside of Nintendo's ecosystem. If Astro Bot isn't a success it's only because people have bad taste and Sony could've marketed it even harder lol
Godspeed, cute little robot game. Hope you clean house during award season.
I know I shouldn't but I think I'd actually be willing to drop cash on Caesar. It's 100% the monster hunter, sword and shield main brainrot but she looks amazing lol
Never been as enthralled by a gacha game as with this tho. I tried Genshin, Starrail AND Impact (the latter even before Genshin was a thing) but none of the three big Hoyo games ever did much for me. I can see why people enjoy them, they just don't grab me.
ZZZ had its hooks in me from damn near second 0 (heh..), it just does so much stuff I enjoy all at once. This update is legitimately the most excited I am for anything gaming related this remaining year atm. Which either says a lot about me or the rest of 2024.. 😅 Regardless, I hope my luck streak continues. So far I actually haven't lost a single 50/50. Knock on wood.
Anyway.. Happy to see this success, too. I'm currently still waiting on my copy because I have more time on hand than I expected this week (the reason shares its name with ***** beer) but so far I managed to avoid any and all info except for one cameo on it and reports of how...fun the game just seems to be.
@GymratAmarillo at least until Gta 6 inevitably sells an absolute f*** ton and all the suits and investors scramble to have their own billion dollar, mega game that "will surely be just as successful".
These people - the decision makers - called Concord one of their biggest projects alongside stuff like God of War and Last of Us, like, two or three months ago. Those guys are not just out of the loop, they're COMPLETELY disconnected from reality.
@SlySnake0407 particularly when they already had early access before releasing the "finished game"
I guess in BG3's case that just meant "we have endings now" and not that they were done. These near constant additions of new story beats and endings honestly kind of turned me off playing more of the game at the time, I think I clocked around 150 hours, total, and never actually did the final boss. Altho that's prow more due to act 3 just being...kinda boring to me.
At this point, and knowing what kind of stuff ATLUS put in their trailers at times, I'll just wait for reviews and to find out how well (or how badly) they handle the time management part of it.
If it's like persona - and you either need to play with a guide or finish it multiple times - and as long as I expect I'm probably gonna pass.
A game has to be an absolute banger of an action game, which this isn't, for me to even consider doing more than one run at this point in my life. I don't want to sit through lengthy RPGs multiple times.
@tangyzesty I have the exact opposite experience, interestingly..
I enjoyed Elden Ring enough, the moment to moment gameplay is great and really engaging. I got the platinum trophy. But as a whole it's my least favorite of FromSoft's games like it. By far.
Not to say it's a bad game, otherwise I wouldn't have done three playthroughs 😅
SotE on the other hand is probably my favorite dlc behind Old Hunters. It just feels way more dense and "directed" to me than most of the lands between - particular the sections past Altus plateau which is when ER peaked, imho - and I enjoy the bosses WAY more than almost everything the base game offered.
The damage is brutal before skadu tree upgrades, but I'm playing the dlc a second time at lvl20 and it's near perfect to me. Elden Ring in general has HELLA overtuned damage numbers, and that still applies to the dlc, but the bosses actually feel like someone who cares designed them as opposed to the vanilla bosses that generally stack mechanics on top of another to the point where something like Malenia goes from potentially the all-time greatest to an unfun, overtuned POS due to two additions that wouldn't be as bad on their own (Waterfowl sharing the startup animation with oen or two other moves and the STUPID lifesteal even through blocks, I wouldn't mind either without the other tbh)
Meanwhile Messmer and Midra feel like they could be THE best bosses in the series - or what I've played of it which is all but Sekiro, DS2 and the back half of DS1.
"Changed the placement of the bosses in the re-fight against the Golden Hippopotamus and Commander Gaius bosses to be in the same position as in the first fight."
Praise the golden will, that fight was (/is) an absolute s***show and the enemy placement is a HUGE part of that. I'd have liked to see them fix his hitboxes, too, tho. Because as it is you straight up cannot hurt gaius during a couple of his attacks which completely invalidates ranged options during those moments, the worst offender is his charge that tracks you and keeps going until it hits you.
I've been lukewarm on the reveal for this, even knowing it's a followup to BT3, which I played the everliving s*** out of as a kid.
But knowing they put a large focus on singleplayer stuff and include another what if style mode has me getting kind of excited for it. I'm still gonna wait for reviews, because you never know with Bamco and anime games - or rather, I don't think they have that many actual hits as far as licensed titles go - and I also want to roughly know how much I'm gonna get out of it while gleefully ignoring the online portion of the game.
@breakneck I don't think there's any characters from the kid saga that don't eventually appear in Z, Super or their movies at SOME point apart from King Piccolo?
Yajirobe is from that part, for one. And I think they already confirmed Yamcha, Tenshin Han and a bunch of other earlier characters, right?
@Korgon while I do agree that the dlc definitely feels fair for 99% of it (Gaius just sucks), I'll argue that elden ring as a whole is entirely over designed in some areas.
I've beaten all of the bosses in the base game and most of the dlc ones (still playing through that) but some absolutely do feel like they're playing by different rules from the tarnished and that just sucks. It doesn't matter if you can overcome that gap or not. It's bad game design to have almost every single boss "cheat the system" in some way.
Some breeds of Souls fans will ignore every mechanic and tool they perceive as "too helpful" and then whine about not being able to adapt their ten year-old playstyle to the latest game's design..
That would actually make me WANT to play in coop because the current system is complete dog..
They seriously need to consider getting rid of some their more pointless /irritating design "quirks". And I say that as someone who's played these games - multiple times in most cases - and is generally a big fan of the overall vibes and structure of the "series"
@ShogunRok many people actually suspected the account changed hands after the first "break from leaking" because "Midori" suddenly threw a ton of info on different publishers beyond SEGA out there.
Turns out we were...technically right about that not being Midori lol
But technically correct is also the best kind of correct so yay for us.
@Milt it's fairly cheap considering it's basically offering the same amount of content and quality as DMC and Bayonetta do within the genre.
If you can fit it into your budget for gaming/hobbies and enjoy character action games it's a no-brainer and it also has a super unique, fun twist on top.
...whatever. The game looks great in the footage released so far, I'm sure I'll forget it runs at 30 two hours into it. Or until I pop something in that does 60 somewhere in between playing DD2. Would I have preferred 60fps? Of course. But I've been gaming long enough to know it's not gonna make the game magically feel like it has tank controls/feel jank as hell.
I am, however, looking forward to reading some meltdowns later today.
Even when the last couple rumors talked about it being "just" a remaster and not a full on remake in the style 2, I was pretty excited about the idea of the game with updated visuals and the potential of new, modern features.

I'm sure fans of a Lovecraft inspired action game will take this well.
Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for September 2024?
I might get a month of extra for Plucky Squire. Depends on how much time I'll have in the coming weeks.

Sony are absolutely out of their mind, 950€ for this nonsense if you have a physical collection, which I assume most on here do.
I'll just stick with what I have, thank you very much.

Wilds looks f***ing amazing in all the weapon previews, I seriously hope we get the gamescom demo as download after the convention is closing.
So.. Yeah. That's my pick.
