I 100%ed this game on Switch, and I adored it. It was such a bright, happy game, and Lucky is super cute. Sometimes you just need a happy, relaxing game.
This is why I'm planning to probably build a PC this next gen instead of getting a console. I'm tired of getting stuck with 30 FPS when I could have 60 or more.
June 19th is a long time to have to avoid spoilers. It can't be fixed now, but I think Naughty Dog should just have released on schedule. I know it wasn't to their satisfaction because they wanted everyone to play it at the same time, but the situation they were in before the leaks was about as good as it was going to get. It's debatable whether or not the leak still would have happened had they stuck with their May release date, but I'm betting things might have turned out differently.
And here I was just wanting to get this game on sale eventually to play the campaign...if it's that big, maybe not...unless I get a new external HDD with more space...
Honestly it's a bit faster to hold the PS button down for a second and then go into devices and turn the controller off.
@BearsEatBeets @Cutmastavictory I often turn a controller off when it's low on battery, and I want to switch to a different controller so I can continue playing wirelessly.
No nostalgia here. Gaming is better than it's ever been. And on top of all the new games, you can still play all the old ones too.
Not to mention game development is something small studios and even individuals can do now. It's opened video games up to a massive range of variety and smaller, more easily digestible experiences. You will never convince me there was a "Golden Age" for gaming. If anything, we're in it.
I see some comments saying gaming isn't what it used to be or that it's not as exciting as it used to be, but I think that's more a symptom of growing up and tastes changing. I know I don't enjoy video games as much anymore, not even the ones I used to (and still to an extent) love.
But good video games are made all the time. You just have to find them.
I don't think I'll be playing this game. The first game's ending was, I felt, a completely satisfying way of tying up a self contained story. I'd rather remember it that way.
@TeddySwolesevelt They're well within their rights to copyright strike this stuff, but I still hold that if a fan can do something better than the studio, it's a bad look, and they need to make sure that they give everyone a reason to want their game over the fan made one.
I liked Other M too. I wonder if people have grown kinder to it with time like they seem to have with the, say, Star Wars Prequels...
@TeddySwolesevelt I see your point, but just one thing: if a fan can do it better, the company owning the franchise needs to up their game. Though I thought Samus Returns was the better game overall.
That or take a page from Sega's book and let the fan actually develop an official game if they're that much better at it than the company itself. Though most companies aren't that open about their IP.
They better not take down Wario gets in a car wreck...
Serious note though: "Nintendo despises it when its fans do cool, non-profit things with its intellectual property..."
As a Nintendo fan it hurts, but it's true. The most prominent example in my mind is AM2R. It's understandable what with Samus Returns having been in development, but AM2R was a seriously fantastic game, and I don't think the creator was making a penny off that. Do correct me if I'm wrong.
Doom 2016's nightmare difficulty was perfect I found. On any other difficulty, the game ended up being too easy in the later levels when you were the most heavily armed. I'll go with nightmare again this time!
"After a dismal start to the year for new releases..."
Or maybe just a dismal start to the year in general... Anyway, been hyped as Hell for this one. Gonna play the Hell out of it, DOOM 64, and Animal Crossing.
@LiamCroft Does the super shotgun get an upgrade this time that allows it to fire twice before reloading? I really hope not. That upgrade made the super shotgun in DOOM 2016 stupidly overpowered to the point that most of the other weapons (minus the siege mode Gauss cannon and the BFG) became useless. I wish you could just turn that upgrade off.
@DonJorginho Some people feel that automatic takes control of the vehicle away from them, and that's fine, but if it's less I have to think about while driving then I prefer that. I'm not someone who loves driving anyway (I do as little as I can get away with). I can definitely see the practical side to learning manual first, but if driving intimidates you like it did me, and you just want something beginner friendly, automatic isn't a bad choice. My only real concern would be if you have to drive a different car (maybe in some sort of emergency or if your car is out of action for a while), and it's a manual. Already knowing how to drive manual would help. Like I said, I definitely plan to learn how some time in the future.
@nessisonett I have a friend who said he could teach me manual so I'll probably take him up on it at some point. With me it wouldn't be McDonald's though, it'd be Taco Bell. 😂
@DonJorginho I actually shouldn't have said screw it because if I did it over again I'd learn to drive stick first. Once you can drive stick, you can drive that AND automatic. But the reverse isn't true. I'd still like to learn stick. Obviously automatic is gonna be more beginner friendly, but stick is way more practical. Especially since I've heard most vehicles in Europe are manual transmission (is that true? I'm not sure).
@TheArt True, I still plan on learning how to some day, but for getting around in the city I'd much rather drive automatic...stick I'd use more for fun/practicing until I got comfortable enough to actually drive one around in the city.
@DonJorginho @nessisonett Driving scared me too. I put it off until I was like 17 (about as long as my mom would let me). Being in the the southern US though, you kinda have to learn to drive since everything is kind of far apart. I don't drive a stick shift though, screw that crap...
@QualityGeezer Oh I'm well aware. The reason Fallen Order was my first Platinum is that I loved the game so much that I wanted to do absolutely everything. What do you mean "unless it's the above" though?
@glassmusic @QualityGeezer I almost got one years ago on Red Faction Armageddon, but I never could manage to get the trophy that required 4 players online. Fallen Order's Platinum was easy though.
@kyleforrester87 Yeah, I LOVE Axiom Verge, but Hyper Light Drifter is on a whole different level in my opinion. Best indie game ever. Axiom Verge might well be my second favorite indie game though.
@kyleforrester87 Now when you say you can't wait to be the face of Push Square, that face actually is just Big Boss grinning and wearing a Santa hat right?
Just from a cursory glance at Control, it seems like a Scarlett Witch game would make more sense. I mean the character design and powers are even quite reminiscent of Scarlett Witch. That said, I love Dr. Strange and would welcome a game about him.
Haaaaard skip for me. Wildlands was somewhat addictive yet boring at the same time, and I found the mechanics unsatisfying compared to those of Future Soldier. The always online plus even more microtransactions plus more of the same Wildlands gameplay mean I'll skip. I wish we could just get another Future Soldier. I still love that game's campaign to this day, and I replayed it recently.
So this is how liberty dies...with uninvertible controls.
In all seriousness, I don't get wanting to invert aiming in a first/third person game. A flight game like Ace Combat (or perhaps more applicably, Rogue Squadron)? Definitely. But not for something like this.
@Dubya75 Because too much heat isn't good for electronics and can shorten their lifespan? I dunno, maybe the PS4 was designed to run hot, but it certainly wouldn't hurt if it ran cooler. Mine actually doesn't make a lot of noise though.
I like the original, but I'm not feeling the hype. Probably due to the game being split into multiple releases. Bleh.
Also with regards to voice acting, I can say that after hearing Dragon Quest XI's voice acting, all JRPGs should have that quality of English voice over. It didn't make my ears bleed unlike most JRPGs with voice acting!
I'd have to say either Palpatine or Obi-Wan, not Darth Maul, is the best thing about the prequels. And yeah, 1 and 2 are awful. I do actually like 3 a lot though despite some dodgy acting. Better than watching The Last Jedi again!
On topic though...this is cool. I really want to get a PSVR at some point. There's three games in particular I really want to try (No Man's Sky, Superhot VR, Megaton Rainfall).
"The protagonist, Sam Porter Bridges, encounters Amelie and Die Hardman, who inform him that he must take a journey West in order to effectively reconnect the so-called United Cities of America. Are you starting to pick up on the themes that Hideo Kojima is shooting for yet?"
@Trico One thing I think the PS4 has not taken advantage of at all is the DS4's touch pad. I've used it for aiming in some shooters on PC, and it actually works really well.
Gyro aiming is interesting. With how popular it is for shooters on the Switch and the fact that the DS4 supports it, I'm surprised it's not more common. It actually makes aiming easier in the case of, say, Wolfenstein 2.
@Flaming_Kaiser Does it have all that live service crap in it? I haven't been following it too closely so far, so I thought it was just a single player game.
