Nice, I love the Black Ops series. I wonder if this one will be more grounded like II or more trippy and weird like I and III (yes, I play these games exclusively as single player games).
@themcnoisy Glad to know I'm not alone. I was probably okay with bad controls until I played MGS4 which controls fine and especially MGSV which controls amazingly. Funny thing is, despite a pretty low frame rate, I get more enjoyment out of Snake Eater on 3DS because of a simple addition: crouch walking.
"Does it deserve the hate?" The real question is if it can Survive the hate. Eh? Never mind.
Seems like a decent game on its own, but it looks like a survival styled re-skin of MGSV. I've played enough of that game as is. Konami, get back to me when you plan on using the Fox engine to remaster Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. And why not remaster MGS 1, 2, and 3 (preferably as an actual GAME rather than a Pachinko machine) while you're at it since the controls in those games are awful? I know they have their fans, and they certainly deserve them, but MGS 2 and 3 feel like I'm struggling more with camera and controls than actual enemies.
@Oscarjpc Actually, can PS3 and PS4 games be bought online through the PS store or do you have to buy them through your PS3 or PS4? Because if you can buy them online I could do it now.
If this is true, I'll probably get this! Guerilla was one of my favorite PS3 games.
@YummyHappyPills The sad thing is, Armageddon had some of the most fun and amazing weapons for causing destruction, and you had a gadget that could instantly rebuild stuff. If it had kept the same formula as Guerrilla, it could have been really great, but it turned into a pretty boring 3rd person shooter.
That said, Mr. Toots was one of the best rewards for finishing a game that I've ever seen...
@Flaming_Kaiser I'm just waiting for TLoU 2...mate. Most of the games I wanted when I got my PS4 I already have. I'm not interested in much else now. Besides, I didn't say there's nothing I'm interested in, I said there's not much. Days Gone and Red Dead, possibly, and MAYBE Spiderman, but that's a big maybe.
Also I just got the Wolfenstein games (Old Blood, New Order, New Colossus), and I've been enjoying the heck out of 'em. I may not be looking forward to much this year, but I definitely didn't buy the wrong console.
"...so maybe keep your Buster Sword flaccid for the time being."
Really guys? XD
On topic though, I played FF VII for the first time in summer 2016 and absolutely loved it. I really hope this turns out well (if it ever turns out at all).
@Splat Eh, start with VII I say (might be biased since that was my first one though). If you want to play a remake, I think it's always a good thing to go play the source material first so you can appreciate the remake more. I've also heard VI is incredible, but I haven't played very far into it...
I've only played a few out of this whole list. I voted Horizon Zero Dawn (still haven't even come close to finishing it), N.Sane Trilogy, and Wildlands. I might have said Wolfenstein 2, but I just got into the series recently and completed Old Blood. I'm on New Order now so I can't really say anything about New Colossus just yet. I would have picked Sonic Mania and Steamworld Dig 2, but I played those on Switch.
@AFCC I ended up putting 350 hours into BOTW. I think I appreciated how open ended it is as well as the quiet, lonely atmosphere of it. In Horizon, it felt like I was in an open world being funneled through a very linear narrative. That's not a bad thing by nature, but it's something that doesn't really click with me. I'd still like to finish it though...someday when I don't have a deluge of games to play.
I still haven't gotten very far in this. I found this game really boring...maybe it's just because Zelda came out about the same time. I should try to get back to it sometime, but I have too much else to play now.
I've been interested in this game, but I'm holding out hoping for a Switch port. While you're at it, Capcom...bring RE4 over. I haven't had the pleasure of playing it just yet.
@drd7of14 Yeah, I have PLENTY to play now. I played some of The Old Blood last night (doing it before New Order and New Colossus), and I enjoyed it pretty good. Not quite as fun as Doom yet, but I didn't expect it to be the same style of gameplay. And if I like Colossus enough, I'll definitely get the Switch port. I always want to support Bethesda bringing its games to Switch.
Aw man, Wolfenstein 2 for $36? I literally just got a physical copy from Amazon for $37. That price difference is no big deal, but having a digital copy would have been more convenient. Oh well, the box is cool looking. I do love a good box art. That Doom discount would have tempted me, but I already got it last month for PS4 from a RedBox for a measly $5. They were selling off surplus copies of the game.
I also just downloaded Wolfenstein The Two Pack for $30, and now it's $20. Wish I'd known about this sale beforehand. Kinda frustrating...but my fault entirely.
The thing I love about having a Switch and a PS4 is that I can play Doom on the go and then come home and play it in a much prettier resolution and frame rate for the TV.
You would hope that people would put their foot down and say "no" to this sort of stuff, but people will be buying these in droves I'll bet. I'll even admit to having done micro transactions in MGSV a few times in the past so I admit I'm part of the problem. I regret it and won't ever be doing it again though. My plan is just to ignore most games that have them (most games that do aren't usually games I'd want anyway), or if it's a game I really want, get the game and ignore the feature entirely.
Also, that quote about there being an opportunity to monetise those interactions is just...you aren't even trying to hide anything are you?
On another note, I hope we see another Splinter Cell at some point, and please Ubisoft, don't make it open world. At this point, a linear stealth game would be more unique than an open world one (we already have MGSV and Wildlands, both of which heavily feature stealth), and I would argue that Blacklist's linearity made it a better game.
@get2sammyb I think that's a joke that's been going around.
I want to like this game, but I just wasn't feeling it with the demo on Switch. I feel like 3D Sonic kind of plays itself (speaking from my experience with Generations and the demo of this). I'm probably gonna save my money for DOOM on Switch.
@Flaming_Kaiser Yes, in fact I'd rate the BO games 1>3>2. One thing you have to understand about me is that I love weird, surreal stuff, and I also often like that one weird game in a franchise that's completely different from every other game in its franchise. BO3 is that game for me. The story is really cool when you figure out the twist (though I admit the game should have explained the twist better). BO3 is just so much weirder and darker than every other CoD game, I love it. The DNI abilities are also super fun to me.
And yes, Infinite Warfare's campaign is amazing. I love it too.
@carlos82 First world problems I tell ya. I might wait till the switch version drops in price. I feel like a scaled down port of a year old game shouldn't be full priced, but there ya go.
@get2sammyb Agreed! Infinite Warfare's campaign was amazing.
@carlos82 Same here, I preferred when we could carry tons of guns in FPSs. Definitely planning on getting Doom soon, but I'll probably get it on Switch.
To be honest, I've actually always loved the futuristic CoDs (Campaigns at least. I'm a single player kind of guy). Black Ops II was a pretty fresh take on the CoD setting when it came out. In Black Ops III, I love the weird, surreal storyline, and the DNI abilities are really fun. Infinite Warfare might have one of my favorite campaigns with all of its side missions and space combat (and I do love space!). The first Black Ops will always be my favorite though. It had such a different campaign from previous games, and I loved the story.
WWII games have been done to death though. I'm not really interested in another one. I have a feeling lots of shooters are gonna start going back to older conflicts now. They did modern and futuristic for a while, but it seems like old is the new "new" now. Battlefield 1 started it, and CoD is continuing it.
@RedMageLanakyn Agreed, this is like the year of Metroidvania. I've been playing this and Samus Returns, and I'll likely get Axiom Verge and Hollow Knight when they arrive on Switch. I also replayed the first Steamworld Dig in preparation for this one.
@ToddlerNaruto No problem. It'd probably be good to research exactly what you'd need to run it at 1080p 60fps or whatever level of performance you're looking for. And I don't know that the PC version wouldn't have performance issues too, but it definitely would be better than on standard PS4 hardware.
Honestly I don't think there's any reason this game couldn't be 60fps on PS4 and especially Pro, but unfortunately Avalanche didn't bother making sure the game was well optimized first. I hate when that happens.
Digital Foundry has a whole bunch of Just Cause 3 videos on YouTube that compare the console versions as well as the game running on various types of graphics cards on PC. They even have some videos that compare the game running on standard PS4 and on Pro with boost mode. That'd probably be a great place to start.
@ToddlerNaruto I don't think that's a great idea. You're going to run into slowdown in that game on PS4. Trust me. If you're planning on getting it on PC anyway, I'd just do that.

I wasn't interested in WW2, but I might be interested in another Black Ops. BO3's trippy campaign was right up my alley.

Been thinking about trying Mass Effect Trilogy, and it's on sale. Might just grab it. Also might try Red Dead Redemption.
