Re: Oculus Wants to Trade Sony for PSVR Exclusives

Haruki_NLI

In what way is Astro Bot only usable on a DS4? Most controllers have the same button count, trigger style and gyro/accelerometer and the light bar should it be used for anything could be replicated via IR (poorly) or any of the VR motion trackers.

This idea will never come to pass though. Sony isn't Microsoft, and Sony's stance has been repeated over and over: we want to be the only show in town. Just ask Jim Ryan, he said the very same of their EU market share.

And sure, Sony has said they want competition for VR. Gets more people in and more games means more money and so the cycle continues. But to take what makes your VR headset, apart from price, the most compelling, isn't a good idea.

And even if we ignore all the "Never gonna happen because business" stuff, for God's sake it's Sony! The mere notion of their games played natively on other hardware has the Vita spinning in its grave. The mere notion of anything cooperative with other Platforms had them making an excuse a minute.

Should this one day come to pass I'll be checking the Mercury down in Hades because woo boy.

Re: Sony Thinks PlayStation Is Too Big to Ignore

Haruki_NLI

@deepspace5d The games I listed arent exclusive because they are published by the console manufacturer.

Because they arent.

Golf Story - Published by Sidebar Games
Octopath Traveler - Published by Square Enix
Cuphead - Published by Studio MDHR
SMTV - Published by Atlus

Yet they are exclusives.

And yes, Octopath WAS published in some regions by Nintendo. But so was Skyrim, and DOOM, and Dragon Quest 11/Builders and Dark Souls.

Re: Sony Thinks PlayStation Is Too Big to Ignore

Haruki_NLI

@FullbringIchigo Yeah, 91.5m PS4s.

But how many PS5s?

Here's the thing. You can't say "PS5 WILL succeed because of what we did with PS4, and therefore people will put the games on regardless, while we intentionally alienate them"

That to me says, yeah they'll do it, because we feel they have no choice. Thats not a healthy attitude.

And what if the PS5, lets say for hypotheticals, does stumble out the gate akin to PS3, but pick up in the end? Will people be putting games on that over a higher selling competitor, "Just because"?

Remember even now there are games not coming to PS4, @deepspace5d, and those weren't paid for by other platform holders. Golf Story, Switch only. Fully independent. Octopath Traveler, isn't coming to PS4, despite being Square Enix. Cuphead isn't coming to PS4, despite Microsoft's platform-agnostics. SMTV isn't coming, despite being made by Atlus, Sony's best friend.

See the trend? Money doesn't dictate it, and if PS5 does hypothetically fall, this attitude will bite them.

I'd rather see a company welcome all developers, and offer a broad range of content, over saying b******s to you, you'll put it on here anyway.

Re: Sony Thinks PlayStation Is Too Big to Ignore

Haruki_NLI

Said Nintendo in 2013.

And Xbox in 2013.

And Sony in 2006.

I sense a trend, in that it's not a given. You'd think Steam is too big to ignore for PC distribution, based on sheer market share and name value. Look how thats going. Money talks.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Introduce a Game Pass Subscription of Its Own?

Haruki_NLI

It would be cool and would get their smaller titles more showtime.

Buuuuuut

We already have EA Access. Game Pass. Game Pass Ultimate if you want XBL in it too. UPlay +, Origin Premium, Stadia, Orion....and some of THESE are subscriptions you have WITHIN other subscriptions like UPlay on Stadia.

So if Sony did it...well then we would be a little hung up. That'd be PS+, PSNow, and this service, all for one system. Then add on wanting Ubisoft games on PC, Xbox, EA, so on so forth....it becomes the TV market.

In that case, we have so many subscription services now, with content being spread so much between them, that it's honestly probably cheaper to go BACK to cable.

But that's what happened. TV started as a handful of channels. It then ballooned and shot up in price. Then streaming came with one or two services. TV was declared dead, but now THAT has ballooned and it's no different now. It's a cycle.

Games subscriptions started as just one. Then its two, then five, and now this. And when the next way to get our games comes, it'll be just a few, then loads, and so on so forth.

There will come a point where it's easier to just buy what you want instead of renting it via subs, because yeah, you'd be paying $300 a year for Ubisoft's service, but that's just one. You're not gonna play all those games, but to play all the games you DO want, you'll be hitting every sub just to do it, and then at what point is it cheaper to just buy em permanently?

Re: Talking Point: Did Square Enix's E3 2019 Press Conference Live Up to the Hype?

Haruki_NLI

End E3 on a high note I suppose.

SquareEnix was the only one going HAM on Switch, so the presentation, for once, wasnt a load of known quantities this time. A third party found balance between fleshing out their last year of PS4 support, and realising another system is very much current and at peak. It provided a good balance.

Where the other shows failed was to focus on the power twins exclusively and...well we knew what we were getting as a result.

Re: Reaction: Sony's Decision to Skip E3 2019 Is Starting to Look Really Smart

Haruki_NLI

When your next system is looming, do what Nintendo did in 2016, or Sony this year. Dont drag out the known quantities and whats left for your system. Just highlight it, be smaller, dont end up repeating yourself.

2019 really is going to be Nintendo's year, if only because all the truly new stuff is there and can be shown. All the other new stuff isnt until 2020 for the other two.

Re: Shenmue III Delayed to November 2019

Haruki_NLI

So it went from before CoD and around the time of Astral Chain...to after CoD, FIFA and if history says anything, the same time as Pokemon.

Can't fault em for being brave but that's a crowded space right there. As long as the game is good though, all is well and it eill stand on its own.

Re: Cuphead Still Isn't Releasing on PS4, But It Will Come to Tesla Cars

Haruki_NLI

@m42orca Because its not only available on irrelevant console hardware?

I mean, if it was a PS4 exclusive lets say, would that mean when the PS4 fades and if hypothetically the PS5 wasn't backwards compatible, that it would be "Irrelevant"?

Relevance as a metric is not just unit sales my friend. It is also mindshare, media presence, and more.

Re: Sony and Microsoft Announce 'Strategic Partnership' on Various Tech Innovations, Including the Evolution of PlayStation

Haruki_NLI

Interesting how EA, Microsoft and Sony all use the familiar Switch marketing slogan when discussing cloud gaming.

Also, boy the popcorn gonna be good.

But good on Sony for seeing Azure could be beneficial. Microsoft has server space and tech assets far beyond what Sony has. If they want to be truly competitive and offer cloud gaming that....well works nigh on flawlessly in the future years where infrastructure likely still wont be improved, they need all the assets they can get.

Re: Official PS Plus May 2019 Videos Battered by Dislikes and Comments Section Outrage

Haruki_NLI

I think an indie plus big game a month would be a good value.

Here we have two indie games...one of which is more story than game and the other is largely multiplayer focused...local miltiplayer at that.

So for a month of PS+ it doesnt incentivise online use all that much and doesnt have the greatest appeal.

As such, it wont be a good month to encourage resubs or newcomers as...well its not hard to see how this can very easily not appeal to someone.

Re: Poll: One Year Old Today, Have Your Thoughts on God of War Changed?

Haruki_NLI

I haven't, and most likely won't, play it. After seeing gameplay footage, I realised someone was fighting an enemy...that I couldn't see because it blended with the background, and no one I have asked has revealed a colour blind mode exists, much like with Horizon Zero Dawn.

Yet another PS exclusive I want to play, but can't. Unless I swing my arms in a blind rage, but that's what God of War used to be.
