In what way is Astro Bot only usable on a DS4? Most controllers have the same button count, trigger style and gyro/accelerometer and the light bar should it be used for anything could be replicated via IR (poorly) or any of the VR motion trackers.
This idea will never come to pass though. Sony isn't Microsoft, and Sony's stance has been repeated over and over: we want to be the only show in town. Just ask Jim Ryan, he said the very same of their EU market share.
And sure, Sony has said they want competition for VR. Gets more people in and more games means more money and so the cycle continues. But to take what makes your VR headset, apart from price, the most compelling, isn't a good idea.
And even if we ignore all the "Never gonna happen because business" stuff, for God's sake it's Sony! The mere notion of their games played natively on other hardware has the Vita spinning in its grave. The mere notion of anything cooperative with other Platforms had them making an excuse a minute.
Should this one day come to pass I'll be checking the Mercury down in Hades because woo boy.
Likely down to the weird marketing. The PS4 version was shown at E3 and in various Japanese demo streams. That was it, and there it was treated like the only release.
The Switch release is published by Nintendo, has been shouted about for months now.
Here's the thing. You can't say "PS5 WILL succeed because of what we did with PS4, and therefore people will put the games on regardless, while we intentionally alienate them"
That to me says, yeah they'll do it, because we feel they have no choice. Thats not a healthy attitude.
And what if the PS5, lets say for hypotheticals, does stumble out the gate akin to PS3, but pick up in the end? Will people be putting games on that over a higher selling competitor, "Just because"?
Remember even now there are games not coming to PS4, @deepspace5d, and those weren't paid for by other platform holders. Golf Story, Switch only. Fully independent. Octopath Traveler, isn't coming to PS4, despite being Square Enix. Cuphead isn't coming to PS4, despite Microsoft's platform-agnostics. SMTV isn't coming, despite being made by Atlus, Sony's best friend.
See the trend? Money doesn't dictate it, and if PS5 does hypothetically fall, this attitude will bite them.
I'd rather see a company welcome all developers, and offer a broad range of content, over saying b******s to you, you'll put it on here anyway.
I sense a trend, in that it's not a given. You'd think Steam is too big to ignore for PC distribution, based on sheer market share and name value. Look how thats going. Money talks.
It would be cool and would get their smaller titles more showtime.
Buuuuuut
We already have EA Access. Game Pass. Game Pass Ultimate if you want XBL in it too. UPlay +, Origin Premium, Stadia, Orion....and some of THESE are subscriptions you have WITHIN other subscriptions like UPlay on Stadia.
So if Sony did it...well then we would be a little hung up. That'd be PS+, PSNow, and this service, all for one system. Then add on wanting Ubisoft games on PC, Xbox, EA, so on so forth....it becomes the TV market.
In that case, we have so many subscription services now, with content being spread so much between them, that it's honestly probably cheaper to go BACK to cable.
But that's what happened. TV started as a handful of channels. It then ballooned and shot up in price. Then streaming came with one or two services. TV was declared dead, but now THAT has ballooned and it's no different now. It's a cycle.
Games subscriptions started as just one. Then its two, then five, and now this. And when the next way to get our games comes, it'll be just a few, then loads, and so on so forth.
There will come a point where it's easier to just buy what you want instead of renting it via subs, because yeah, you'd be paying $300 a year for Ubisoft's service, but that's just one. You're not gonna play all those games, but to play all the games you DO want, you'll be hitting every sub just to do it, and then at what point is it cheaper to just buy em permanently?
SquareEnix was the only one going HAM on Switch, so the presentation, for once, wasnt a load of known quantities this time. A third party found balance between fleshing out their last year of PS4 support, and realising another system is very much current and at peak. It provided a good balance.
Where the other shows failed was to focus on the power twins exclusively and...well we knew what we were getting as a result.
When your next system is looming, do what Nintendo did in 2016, or Sony this year. Dont drag out the known quantities and whats left for your system. Just highlight it, be smaller, dont end up repeating yourself.
2019 really is going to be Nintendo's year, if only because all the truly new stuff is there and can be shown. All the other new stuff isnt until 2020 for the other two.
I could pay full price or the sub...but its still streamed.
Sure you can argue the demographic they want to hit is those without consoles or a PC but...if they lack those they probably also lack a decent internet connection
@m42orca Because its not only available on irrelevant console hardware?
I mean, if it was a PS4 exclusive lets say, would that mean when the PS4 fades and if hypothetically the PS5 wasn't backwards compatible, that it would be "Irrelevant"?
Relevance as a metric is not just unit sales my friend. It is also mindshare, media presence, and more.
@Useyourname and Nintendo only had that affair because a relationship with Sony would be like an arranged marriage they'd have to pay royalties to release stuff on their own system.
Interesting how EA, Microsoft and Sony all use the familiar Switch marketing slogan when discussing cloud gaming.
Also, boy the popcorn gonna be good.
But good on Sony for seeing Azure could be beneficial. Microsoft has server space and tech assets far beyond what Sony has. If they want to be truly competitive and offer cloud gaming that....well works nigh on flawlessly in the future years where infrastructure likely still wont be improved, they need all the assets they can get.
@SmokeBombClock Not exactly my idea, its more just saying they could do what Nintendo did with theirs. Granted thats an exclusive to Online game thats Online only, and online play added to retro titles, but the principle is the same
I haven't, and most likely won't, play it. After seeing gameplay footage, I realised someone was fighting an enemy...that I couldn't see because it blended with the background, and no one I have asked has revealed a colour blind mode exists, much like with Horizon Zero Dawn.
Yet another PS exclusive I want to play, but can't. Unless I swing my arms in a blind rage, but that's what God of War used to be.

Re: Oculus Wants to Trade with Sony for PSVR Exclusives
@David187 He did also mention the speaker and light bar yes but as I mentioned those features are replicatable to certain extents. Touch pad isn't.
Plus not many games use the touch pad so I expressed my surprise.
Re: Oculus Wants to Trade Sony for PSVR Exclusives
@themcnoisy A game used the touch pad? Ok wow

And as with all other DBZ games the DLC will round the roster out to a nice 60% minimum Goku.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Struggles to Overtake Super Mario Maker 2 Once Again
@Flaming_Kaiser @Ralizah To be fair, my PS4 Pro is an exclusives box.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Struggles to Overtake Super Mario Maker 2 Once Again
@Link41 67% of retail sales on Switch apparently.
Likely down to the weird marketing. The PS4 version was shown at E3 and in various Japanese demo streams. That was it, and there it was treated like the only release.

Re: Random: Embarrass Your Friends with These PlayStation Branded Shirts
What friends? I'm wearing a PlayStation shirt.
Re: Feature: 7 Ways Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Needs to Improve Its Online Multiplayer
A brutal economy huh?
Well we all know how Activision would like to fix that...
Re: The Nitro Tour Grand Prix Event Is Live Now in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
Bit concerned there are rewards for only the top 5% of players. No word of they'll be available later
Re: Feature: Which Studios Could Sony Realistically Acquire?
Buy Retro Studios, pull another Microsoft on Nintendo ;p
Re: Sony Thinks PlayStation Is Too Big to Ignore
@deepspace5d The games I listed arent exclusive because they are published by the console manufacturer.
Because they arent.
Golf Story - Published by Sidebar Games
Octopath Traveler - Published by Square Enix
Cuphead - Published by Studio MDHR
SMTV - Published by Atlus
Yet they are exclusives.
And yes, Octopath WAS published in some regions by Nintendo. But so was Skyrim, and DOOM, and Dragon Quest 11/Builders and Dark Souls.
Re: Sony Thinks PlayStation Is Too Big to Ignore
@FullbringIchigo Yeah, 91.5m PS4s.
But how many PS5s?
Here's the thing. You can't say "PS5 WILL succeed because of what we did with PS4, and therefore people will put the games on regardless, while we intentionally alienate them"

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, Nioh, and More Join the PlayStation Hits Line-Up
@MattSilverado Screenshots werent boding well for me in the CVD area sadly. I'll try it at that price, but dont wxpect me to be able to play it...
Re: EA Believes Loot Boxes Are Ethical, Deems Them Surprise Mechanics
"People enjoy surprises"
Lets all mail a gift box full of turds to EA. People like surprises.
Re: Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, Nioh, and More Join the PlayStation Hits Line-Up
That PS4 bundle sounds like a good introduction to the PS4.
And one third is an introduction to the PS3 ;P
Still, I will probably pick HZD at that price. Here's hoping the lack of CVD modes doesn't screw me over as much as watching footage did.
Re: Feature: All the E3 2019 Press Conferences Rated and Reviewed
@Circasurviver Panzer Dragoon maybe. Trials of Mana remake is. Contra Rogue Corps and the Collection.
Re: E3 2019: Watch Dogs Legion Coming to 'PlayStation Platforms' Suggests Both PS5 and PS4 Releases
Or
He means PS4 and PS4 Pro.
OR
He means the obvious that it will be on PS5 because of backwards compatability.

Re: E3 2019: Trials of Mana Brings Fantastical RPG Action to PS4 in 2020
@FullbringIchigo Well, its what, £280 for a Switch? Couple of months easy.
But damn, that little thing is stacked now. Its scary.
Re: E3 2019: Trials of Mana Brings Fantastical RPG Action to PS4 in 2020
@FullbringIchigo Buy a Switch, get the collection, then enjoy!
Re: E3 2019: Trials of Mana Brings Fantastical RPG Action to PS4 in 2020
@FullbringIchigo Yep. Switch exclusive. Out now. Enjoy!
Re: Talking Point: Did Square Enix's E3 2019 Press Conference Live Up to the Hype?
End E3 on a high note I suppose.
SquareEnix was the only one going HAM on Switch, so the presentation, for once, wasnt a load of known quantities this time. A third party found balance between fleshing out their last year of PS4 support, and realising another system is very much current and at peak. It provided a good balance.

That weekend is DOOM time.
Re: E3 2019: Microsoft's New Xbox Console Project Scarlett Will Eat Monsters for Breakfast
It's a repeat of the 2013 situation, the two boxes will be damn near identical, the war is won on price and that initial presentation.
Re: Reaction: Bloated Xbox E3 2019 Press Conference Fails to Capitalise on Sony No-Show
Roll on Tuesday I suppose...
Re: Talking Point: Did Microsoft Deliver the Goods in Its E3 2019 Press Conference?
That was fine. Very little gameplay and Scarlett seems identical to PS5.
Guess its on Nintendo to deliver good gameplay showings this year.
Again.
Re: FIFA 20 Doesn't Look Like It'll Kick Off on the PS3
14 years of FIFA aint bad. On par with PS2.
Lol at the one Legacy Edition though. Minimal effort.
Re: Feature: Predict E3 2019 with the 5th Annual Push Square Community Quiz
Ah yes, all the other major publishers. All of them. No Devolver Digital love?
I can see a lot of this happening. Granted, most of it we can tell by the clock being broken.
Re: Reaction: Sony Won't Be Scared of Google Stadia in the Slightest
I could pay full price or the sub...but its still streamed.
Sure you can argue the demographic they want to hit is those without consoles or a PC but...if they lack those they probably also lack a decent internet connection
Re: The Elder Scrolls VI Needs to Be a Game That People 'Play for a Decade at Least', Says Bethesda Boss
As weird as it sounds I think what keeps people playing is the bugs.
Like yeah its a solid RPG beneath it all, but the bugs are so varied and hilarious people play just to find them.
Then you have the modders taking a very malleable game and code, fixing it, running with the bugs...it has legs based on leaving the door open.
Re: JUMANJI Gets Its Very Own Video Game, Coming November 2019
I remember a previous Jumanji that was just crappy Mario Party.
Re: Shenmue III Delayed to November 2019
So it went from before CoD and around the time of Astral Chain...to after CoD, FIFA and if history says anything, the same time as Pokemon.
Can't fault em for being brave but that's a crowded space right there. As long as the game is good though, all is well and it eill stand on its own.

@m42orca Because its not only available on irrelevant console hardware?

Re: Rumour: Death Stranding Is a Timed PS4 Exclusive, Coming to PC
@Sanquine My comment was that it wouldn't be able to run the game.
Re: Rumour: Death Stranding Is a Timed PS4 Exclusive, Coming to PC
You wont see this on Switch for reasons other than being Sony funded
But still, since Sony has been so on and off with their marketing, it's hard to tell. Everthing could be timed exclusive these days...
Re: God of War Art Director Has Been Drawing Realistic Smash Bros Characters
Ah yes. Nintendo characters such as Mega Man, Sonic, and presumably soon Snake and Cloud.

Re: Official PS Plus May 2019 Videos Battered by Dislikes and Comments Section Outrage
I think an indie plus big game a month would be a good value.
Here we have two indie games...one of which is more story than game and the other is largely multiplayer focused...local miltiplayer at that.
So for a month of PS+ it doesnt incentivise online use all that much and doesnt have the greatest appeal.
As such, it wont be a good month to encourage resubs or newcomers as...well its not hard to see how this can very easily not appeal to someone.
Re: Square Enix Confirms Live E3 2019 Showcase
