Didn't know it was called a Solid State Drive Hard Drive, given those are two different things 🤣
But man, that's expensive. Hopefully, God willing, this drives down prices in the same way the Switch encouraged higher MicroSD storage sizes and drove prices down.
But it is weird for having such a seemingly proprietary drive, Sony isn't using proprietary storage given the inevitable confusion it'll cause trying to match a third party drive to work with a proprietary one.
Bit given their history with storage mediums...probably best not.
"We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features,” he said. “We do believe in generations, and whether it’s the DualSense controller, whether it’s the 3D audio, whether it’s the multiple ways that the SSD can be used... we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5.”
They DID let the 25th anniversary go by without a game. Yeah they revealed Mania and Forces for it, but they sure as hell didn't land until Sonic was half way to 27.
And much like with the past two Sony systems, that's my reason to buy, and its not coming out half way through its life like on PS4, or I have no disposable income like with PS3.
I wonder how much of this is an issue because it already looked good when it released, meme context and all, but can't be upgraded much due to using Switch as the lowest reference point.
As only the 2nd PS4 exclusive game I've cared about (I dont care about Spider-Man, never had an attachment to God of War, Horizon came out at a bad time, and I havent been interested in Naughty Dog's work post-PS2, sue me), of course I'm buying it.
I need to justify having a PS4 Pro in some way other than DOOM Eternal.
Only gripe I'd say is colour blind modes please because blimey....some of those areas lose detail, I can tell there should be foliage and such but wow, the way its lit or something isn't doing me favours. Could also be stream compression, have to see.
Oh, and the ground looks remarkably shiny a lot, as if its been rained on, which makes sense, just an aesthetic thing I'm not big on in games for some reason. It always looks a bit less natural than it should, but maybe next generation will fix that.
Aside from one usability issue that will hopefully be addressed, and a gripe I have because it just doesn't sit with me, yeah I'm sold. Love the combat, its slower pace, and the wide world and how you are guided is creative and rewards observation.
@Rudy_Manchego Its going to be weird not going to EGX myself for once, but thats more a choice on my job position changing since last time, and September being good ol' seasonal setup.
I imagine that by September the ExCel wont be a hospital, at the same time, even though they are barely being used, these emergency stations aren't going to go away quickly, just in case. Better to have and not need after all.
@LiamCroft Except your readers do dictate to you, because if they stop reading, you need to change what you write about, so they continue reading, see the ads, you get money.
Remember that in capitalism, you are beholden to your customers.
Where's our article on the screws that hold the thing together. Are they Phillips, Flat, Tri-Wing or Torx? Are they made from the finest materials of the Congo, or from the walls of El Dorado? Will they strip easily?
Gonna say, not a fan of the touchpad being back and the lightbar somehow being more useless and battery draining.
But the downside for me is the shape. It looks like its too wide for me to hold and get my admittedly knackered right thumb to reach over for Square or the stick.
Have to wait until I hold one to be sure, but this seems to fall into the same trap the Xbox controllers have - I just cant hold the things with my injury.
I think for the sanity if the internet it WANTS to be Bayonetta 3 at this point. Kamiya keeps saying it's going fine and much like SMTV, the game doesn't exist beyond that for three years now.
If it's anything OTHER than that, then how many things have these maniacs been doing at once? Babylons Fall, Astral Chain, Wonderful 101, the Bayonetta remasters in 2018 on Switch, Bayonetta 3, Project GG....and that's just what's come out in the past 3 years.
@nessisonett GameFreak actually made a game earlier in the generation, that had nothing to do with ANY Nintendo system.
No one cared or really heard about it though. Tembo the Badass Elephant.
Yes really.
In fact, GameFreak's "Gear Projects" as they call them, are not only done by what they consider their main team (Really), and is used as training for Pokemon and new directors, but also often has nothing at all to do with Nintendo systems.
@BrintaPap What concerns me more is we see the base file size of games with actual 4K Assets on PC and my god, you can get 4, generously, on a 1TB drive.
Given the PS5 is using custom SSD tech to both improve games and act as storage, that wont be cheap to implement, meaning 2TBs may be generous. That wont last long.
But then add on the fact that the SSD seems required for games to run on the newer systems, you lose out on external HDD support. So then you need external SSDs, which can be rather costly. Or god forbid....custom proprietary ones.
I hope not, but I just got a 4TB HDD for my PS4 Pro and its already lost 500GB to formatting....somehow....and then a further 1.2TB for a mere 40 games. Mostly indies.
Space is a premium, but sadly developers wont see it that way.
Well I mean, would third party PS4 games run better on PS5?
Only if the game as is coded runs with say, a DRS in place.
Otherwise they have to patch specifically for the new spec rather than letting what is already there be impacted by the new hardware, via dynamic systems.
So I expect a lot of games will just run as is on PS4 Pro specifications.
@Agramonte Less that a publisher told them no, and more "We want to do it but not exclusively to one platform." So they let the IP go. Hardly like they were using it.
Plus said publisher is probably very much in their good books given they funded some stuff when other publishers and platform holders said no.
@m8e3point1415 Well to start, according to Kamiya, they spoke to the IP Owner, Nintendo, and they said you either do this game only on Switch with us, or you can do it yourselves.
Seems like part of that investment was buying the rights to Wonderful 101, which they've stated they want to do for all their IP. Probably means they'll buy Astral Chain from Nintendo and Bayonetta from SEGA.

Re: PS5 Console Exclusive Godfall Requires an Internet Connection
It's fine. Gearbox won't drop a game with a mandatory online component soon.
Wait.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Mafia Makes the Top 10 Not Once But Twice
@Ichiban SquareEnix could fart into a PS4 game case and it'd top the charts too.
Oh wait, that was Avengers

And on PS4.
Re: 99% of PS4 Games Can Be Played on PS5, Says PlayStation Boss
He also said, and this is worth stressing:
"We believe in firm generational gaps".
And his marketing team also said they'd give plenty of pre-order notice.
So Jim Ryan saying 99% of PS4 games will work probably means about 10%.
Re: PS5's New DualSense Controller Will Cost $69.99
So the controller can be the same in dollars and euros but not the games?
Re: Sony Confirms PS5 Games Will Cost More
Jesus christ.
That's it. That's the comment.
Re: God of War Ragnarok Announced for PS5 in 2021
And on PS4 maybe.
Re: Sony Confirms PS5 Games Will Cost More
Did they read the exchange rate backwards because er....that's a big yikes from me.
Re: Horizon Forbidden West Is Coming to Both PS5 and PS4
So what happened to "We won't do cross-gen games to get people to upgrade faster?"
That certainly went the way of HALO Infinite.
Also, yikes...those prices on games man. Now third parties really wont hold back.
Re: SEGA Kicking Off Sonic's 30th Anniversary with Funko Pops and Energy Drinks
They DID let the 25th anniversary go by without a game. Yeah they revealed Mania and Forces for it, but they sure as hell didn't land until Sonic was half way to 27.
And I just remembered Forces exists. Ew.
Re: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Will Release in PS5's Launch Window

Chaching.
Re: PS5 Moneyhat Speculation Rumbles On
Here's the thing though, do they need to?
I mean you look at what happened when Xbox got timed exclusives. Where did they sell best in the end? Not on the Xbox.
So as far as Xbox is concerned, unless this is an anti Game Pass measure, it's probably more a waste of money than anything.
Re: Rumour: PS5 Controller's Battery Life 3 to 4 Hours Longer than DualShock 4
So...it'll still be the worst battery powered controller on the market then?
I mean it's an improvement and I'm grateful for it, but yikes.
Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Leaked on Doritos Bag
Wonder if Belle Delphine will get a Black Ops Doritos Bath Endorsement.
No you arent getting context.
Re: Yakuza: Like a Dragon PS5 Upgrade Confirmed, Will 'Release at a Later Date'
Phil said gamers shouldnt be locked out.
Well you're not being locked out. The lock will be lifted. Eventually
Re: Here's Your First Look at Official PS5 Game Box Art
My only concern is it seems to be the existing PS4 boxes (Why wouldnt it be I suppose) so does that mean discs will still be flying about in there?
Re: God of War Director Prefers PS5 Price Increases Over Microtransaction Hellscape
Nice sentiment, ain't gonna happen.
Re: Crysis Remastered Delayed Following Poor Reception to Leaks

Re: Xbox Boss Believes Microsoft Is in Very Good Position, Will Be Able to Demonstrate Hardware Advantages Over PS5
I don't view this as a back handed compliment.
He literally says they did what they needed to do, they did it well.
He then says I think we are in a good position. He didn't say because of the Sony event, he just said the Xbox brand is also in a strong spot.

Re: EGX Rezzed 2020 Cancelled As Coronavirus Situation Continues
Cant wait for EGX 2020 taking place at the Currently An Emergency Hospital London this September.
Re: Poll: Are You Spending More Time Gaming Because of the Coronavirus Lockdown?
No, I'm at work 40 hours a week.
Re: The Outer Worlds Was Held Back by Console Memory Budgets
Here's where I question this excuse from.
If the game had to be scaled back for PS4 and Xbox One due to memory constraints of 5-8GB usable RAM, system depending...
Why did they then decide to also port it to a system with even LESS RAM?
Re: Rumour: Resident Evil 4 Remake in Development, Aiming for 2022 Launch
Stuff that. Gyro aiming or bust for one, other than that, two things.
Remake either Code Veronica or Zero first.
And for the love of God I didn't realise that 2017-2022 would mirror 1997-2002 in pure Resident Evil cramming.

Re: Did You Know There's An Easy Way to Turn Off Your PS4 Controller?
Ran out of Dualsense articles, time to milk the DS4, aw yeah.
Sure is PushSquare alright. All about those controllers.
Though really, I think the general rule for controllers now should be whatever your main button is/used to sync to a system is also your power button.
Re: Fans Are Hopeful DualSense's D-Pad Has Been Inspired by PS Vita
@JohnnyBastos Actually in 2020 the only things still using micro are two of the three home consoles, and a few odd gadgets.
Phones, Switch, and even computers now use USB C almost exclusively.
So if anything, gaming has yet to catch up.
Though as you say, US -C could be a marketing point...but so are simply replaceable batteries.
Re: PS5's Controller Sounds Cool, But It's a Shame Sony Couldn't Squeeze in Patented Biofeedback
Reminds me of that Super Famicom Tetris title that had a heart sensor add-on, so as you got more stressed the game sped up.
Re: PS5's DualSense Controller Explodes on Social Media
The best comparison I could think of was a Steam Controller with white anime armour.
Dont know why.
Actually, looking at it....how the hell do you go back to the OS Home screen with this? There's no Home or PS Button visible.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Delayed Again Due to Coronavirus Epidemic
I wonder if the developers got told about the delay before the reason and had immediate anxiety about more crunch.
Also remarkable, that the game is delayed purely for profitability reasons, rather than the stated "Everyone at once."
Can't convince me.
And hey, Ghost of Tsushima is next. Now THAT is a game that is never coming out.
Re: Yakuza: Like a Dragon Charges Just $0.60 for New Game+, But Rises to Nearly $9 in May
Remember when they did this for Super Sonic?
Re: Those Who Remain Is the First of Many Expected Coronavirus Related PS4 Delays
First the Outer World's, now this.
Here we go boys
Re: Coronavirus Could Very Well Lead to PS4 Game Delays
Given some Switch games already got delayed from this, I wouldn't be surprised if it became industry wide, and not just because the devs are in China.
Re: PS4 Exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn Confirmed for PC in Summer 2020
Now expecting @get2sammyb to do whatever it was he said he'd do in a previous article if this happened.

Two Point Hospital did very well.
Checks notes on two out of three consoles.
Re: PlayStation Fans' Patience Running Thin As PS5 Remains a No-Show
Nintendo did the same thing once.
Announced NX in 2015, waited until less than 6 months before release to actually reveal the damn thing.
Re: The Witcher 3 Cross-Save Feature Skips PS4
Not the first game to do this between PC and Switch, Divinity and CIv 6 I believe does it too, and it probably wont be the last.

Well much like the PS4, when Ratchet comes, so does a new console to my house
