Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake PS4 Box Art Revealed

Haruki_NLI

So....consumers gonna be miffed when SquareEnix turns around with FFVII Remake (But its the rest of it) Edition later since this says....nothing about it being episodic. The game is just gonna end at the end of Midgar and like....thats it? Thats what this name implies.

And that wont go well.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Borderlands 3 Shifts Down to Make Way for Link's Awakening

Haruki_NLI

And the Switch version of Ni No Kuni sold better too. Odd. Then again, I saw no marketing for it.

As for Link's Awakening, well, that's another Switch #1 spot (At this point Switch has to have had more #1s for itself than every other Nintendo system combined), and this trend is shocking given before the Switch the last Nintendo release to do that was in 2011.

But I will say, Borderlands has mastered the art of sticking around. That's another hit for 2K, Randy Pitchford Medieval Times shenanigans aside ;P

Re: Sony Will Launch PS5 Pro Alongside PS5 in 2020, Says Rumour, But We're Not Convinced

Haruki_NLI

Okay, so if a PS5 with baked in SSD with enough space to hold games that are already upwards of 100GBs per SKU (At least 1TB, 2TB minimum ideal with how sizes are inflating!) with its touted technical specification already seems ludicrously expensive less Sony takes one hell of a loss per unit....how much will a Pro cost?

Coz here's the thing. A beefier console over the PS4 Pro with an SSD seems feasible for $400. A much beefier console at the spec we keep hearing about for PS5, but without an SSD at $400 is also feasible.

That spec AND the SSD that is big enough for modern gaming doesn't seem doable without huge losses on production.

So a Pro? For the PS5? Absolutely not. That would make the Xbox One X look cheap, then again, Sony keeps saying this will be a price that is "Acceptable" to the hardcore.

I know Microsoft and Sony always usually take losses on their hardware, but I dont know if Sony is leaning more towards a PS3 style loss per unit here, and that was being sold for around half of what it cost to make, and it was still $500.

I'd hope to god not, but they are promising a lot of juice and storage at high speeds in a consumer level box using tech that isn't even out yet.

And that sets alarms in my wallet. I just cant see it.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Crash Team Racing Drops Down to Third in Another Quiet Week for PS4

Haruki_NLI

@ShogunRok Control? Spiderman GOTY? Literally any other game with a sale?

I mean Astral Chain is gonna be great, but its also the words Platinum Games, Switch exclusive, and Action game.

These things individually already struggle in the UK as is to varying degrees (Action game probably has the best shot by far!), so expecting Astral Chain at the top when it is niche as niche gets.....nope.

Re: Death Stranding's Exposition Laden Briefing Trailer Leaks

Haruki_NLI

"Think of it like Ubisoft Towers: The Game"

Somehow you are selling me less on the game than Kojima is.

Maybe that's his goal. The game is nothing special and he wants people to pay up full price for a new IP by making them confused and curious?

I mean all the marketing has been is "Oh Kojima! You're so wacky!" and Geoff Keighley asking him how hard.

Re: Spider-Man Movie Dispute Raises Video Game Concerns

Haruki_NLI

So here's where I stand on this.

Yes, this is Sony's fault. At the end of the day, they own the movie rights, they make the final decision. They made this decision to stall negotiation. That was Sony's choice given the info they had.

Now does that mean the situation leading to that decision is their fault? No. That's Disney for putting poor terms on the table. Disney is at fault for leading to a decision that is Sony's fault of their own free will.

As for the future of the Sony's Insomniac's Marvel (Registered Trademark)'s Spider-Man (Registered Trademark) games....who knows?

Re: Rumour: PS5's Graphics Processor Is a Monster

Haruki_NLI

The question is how much of a loss will it be sold for?

It's like the PS3 situation where say, it's £450, but to make a unit costs £800, that means for every PS5 they sell, they need to make up £350 somewhere, per user.

If the user signs up for PS+ for a year, dope. But what would PS+ games be on PS5 early on? PS4 games right? But the odds the user already has a PS4...will be exceptionally high. So PS+ for the first year or so becomes just an online check. But thats still only £60. Loads of licensing fees could help. First party game sales. But its a large gap to try and cover on a hope.

The higher your price, the less people will buy, but the lower your price compared to cost, the more you need to make up from elsewhere.

Re: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Microtransactions Are Rolling Out on PS4 Now

Haruki_NLI

@GKO900 Activision only ended up with it through sheer circumstance. It wasn't a case of they bought the IP specifically, it just changed hands by virtue of Universal being absorbed and then the company that did that getting bought and then THAT got absorbed into Activision at which point they did nothing with the properties for almost a decade.

Kinda funny they end up with gold mines via sheer luck!

Re: Borderlands 3 Boycotted by Fans Following Take-Two Investigation into Leaks

Haruki_NLI

@ZeroAbbadon The issue is that rather than just do a DMCA and make a legal threat, they spent 10 damn months effectively stalking this guy with an under-the-books investigation that doesn't actively involve law enforcement, and then had two random people appear at his private home because Take Two felt that was appropriate.

If a publisher puts something out early, and you see it, now there is precedent for them to send the bailiffs around to question you with no legal standing to do so.

Re: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Microtransactions Are Rolling Out on PS4 Now

Haruki_NLI

@GKO900 What you mean is you wish Sony would get the Crash IP from Activision. They never owned it to get it "back".

Makes me kinda wish Universal was still around. Then again, as a Western company they'd probably pull this s*** at some point anyway.

@Arkantos2990 Yes, I am ignoring them. And yes, I AM well aware there are no stat altering features.

Although you can buy characters who have their own stats and do alter gameplay.

My point is, yeah, its just cosmetic, but that's really not good value even at that point.

Further, dataminers have found the potential for micro-transactions to unlock Nitro Points during the Grand Prix events, letting you just buy your way through that too.

Re: Future PS4 Games Containing Loot Boxes Will Have to Disclose the Odds in New Initiative from ESA

Haruki_NLI

@RogerRoger For disclosure I imagine it's on the Loot boxes page.

As for Nintendo they could honestly go as far as having it front and center on the eShop page for a game. They already list all in-app purchases above product details like file size so you will see them first, and stick a nice large warning over the purchase button too.

But the obvious one is within the games themselves. Of course, companies can change the odds, so that would need to be looked into.

Re: Death Stranding Will Be a Statement, Trying to Move the Industry Forward

Haruki_NLI

@AdamNovice Here's the thing, over the past four years we haven't learned what this game is beyond "Kojima!".

Only recently did we find out what this actually is. No, I dont want to know everything about it, but you have to tell me about the game.

I mean the first gameplay we ever saw was....well frankly nothing? It was walking and....something happened and we still dont have context.

This interview, and many others from celebrities about this game just say "Its amazing omg Kojima is a genius" and...sure, he has had his great hits, but....can ya sell the game and not his resume?

This is a really hard thing to explain, and sorry if this view annoys you, but I really cant get into a game without at least having context, especially on a new IP. If I don't get what I'll be actually doing when playing this game, I probably wont want to play it.

It's this weird direction for marketing and sure it works...sometimes for some people, but its really easy to lose people.

They spent 4 years building it up, we see it, its got walking, its open world, its got these themes....and Kojima is awesome.

Can you see why that's not gelling with me?

Re: Death Stranding Will Be a Statement, Trying to Move the Industry Forward

Haruki_NLI

And I continue to just sigh.

Cliff Blesinski thought he could sell games on his name. Look how that fared.

The name of the guy behind it means jack all, and if the game ends up being s***, congrats, your name, the thing you sold your game on, is now tarnished.

Also, how can you sell a new IP, a new idea or even a new concept and do that by just saying "Yeah this guy made it".

That ain't selling me. That says "I dont know what this is, I cant clearly convey it in marketing, buy it because me".

Re: Sony Will Exhibit at Gamescom, Tokyo Games Show

Haruki_NLI

"Sony’s absence at E3 2019 contributed to one of the worst conventions at the American game show since the event began two decades ago,"

I dont think Sony being absent was an issue. They have the same problem all the other companies (Except Square and Nintendo) had.

"Oh hell, our new stuff aint ready until next year. Bail".

They just saved themselves the embarrassment. Heck if Sony was there it would have been WORSE.
