Re: Evidence for Supercharged PS4.5 Console Mounts

IceClimbers

So I wonder if Hyrule Warriors Legends is a bit of a foreshadowing of what AAA devs will do with multiplats - meaning they're optimized on PS4.5/XB1.5/NX (assuming NX is on par with them), but optimized poorly on PS4/XB1.

If so, it'll get people to cave in and upgrade eventually.

Re: Rumour: Sony's Building a Supercharged PS4 Console

IceClimbers

@rjejr FFXV was scrapped and restarted during those 10 years. If the NX is easy enough to port to, then there's a good chance the game will come to NX.

Also, Cloud being in Smash really doesn't have anything to do with FFVIIR potentially coming to NX. Sakurai wanted a Final Fantasy character in the game because of fan demand for Final Fantasy characters, and Cloud just happens to be the most iconic and popular Final Fantasy character.

Re: Rumour: Final Fantasy XV Goes on a PS4 Road Trip from 30th September

IceClimbers

@JaxonH Yup. Was afraid I'd have to choose between the two games. No way I'd have time for both! These open world games can get rather demanding on time. Adult responsibilities come first after all!

If this release date is true, then I'll definitely be able make time for both. Not really anything else coming out at the time anyway that's high priority (as far as I know), so this would be perfect for me.

@rjejr Well this date allows them to show off the launch trailer at Tokyo Game Show, which is like 3 or so days beforehand. Perfect timing there.

I'd be shocked if there wasn't a PS4 bundle with this game.

Re: February 2016 NPD: PS4 Extends Its Lead as US Sales Shrink

IceClimbers

Street Fighter V sold < 210k according to NPD. Using Steamspy's worldwide numbers and a bit of math, NeoGaf users have figured out that the NA numbers for the PC version are ~56k.

This means that PS4 digital sales would have to be at least 100k to come close to Fire Emblem Fates.

We now live in a world where Fire Emblem outsells Street Fighter in North America. Crazy.

Re: February 2016 NPD: PS4 Extends Its Lead as US Sales Shrink

IceClimbers

Street Fighter V didn't have a very good debut at retail. The Steam version is at about 125k worldwide, so yeah.

On a side note, Fire Emblem Fates is #3 on the chart if you combine all three SKUs (Conquest, Birthright, SE). Fates sold just under 400k in the US including digital sales.

Congrats to Nintendo on Fates' success, and congrats to Sony for another leading month in hardware.

Re: Street Fighter V Seems to Be Fighting Fit on PS4 Now

IceClimbers

@Boerewors You need to chill. Ono is not Inafune all over again. Inafune was always a businessman, not a creator. Ono is a creator. Big difference.

Should he have said what he said? Probably not.

Also, Nintendo is in no way "constraining Sakurai". Sakurai is independent, and was given pretty much complete freedom over Smash 4.

Re: Toy Maker Says Sony's Bringing Crash Bandicoot Back

IceClimbers

@adf86 I think the Ratchet movie should do rather well as long as there's enough marketing for the movie. It has the benefit of not releasing anywhere near any other animated movies - Zootopia will be old news by then, and there's nothing after Ratchet until June.

Civil War is the only major movie release around that time, which I don't think will be too much of a problem despite being one of, if not the biggest movies of the year.

Re: Toy Maker Says Sony's Bringing Crash Bandicoot Back

IceClimbers

@Gamer83 Agreed. Sanzaru's reputation might have been damaged a bit thanks to Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal (which was the better of the two Sonic Boom games), though both Sonic Boom games were rushed to be released alongside the cartoon. Not really their fault. I believe they're finishing up Sonic Boom Fire & Ice now, which may end up being a decent game.

I'd love to see a new Sly Cooper from them.

Re: January 2016 NPD: PS4 Secures First Victory of the Year with 'Impressive' Growth

IceClimbers

I'd argue that Street Fighter V is the biggest retail release for Sony this month. Far Cry Primal isn't a mainline game, so to speak. It's more of a side game, and while it will sell respectable numbers, I don't think it will dominate. I really don't think it's that big of a heavy hitter.

Anyways, do any of you think that 2015 was the Xbox One's peak year, and that it's downhill from here?

As for Nintendo, they're pretty much going through the motions right now during their transition period. Software sales are all that is really relevant for them at the moment.

Re: Finally, We Can Compare PS4 and Xbox One Sales

IceClimbers

Xbox One is on track to sell about 35-40 million lifetime, a MAJOR decline from the Xbox 360.

You're probably thinking "But the XB1 is outpacing the 360, so how can that be?" Easy - the 360's pace was certainly not a constant quantity. It sold somewhat slowly at first then picked up big time.

As said in the article, outside of the US and the UK the Xbox brand is becoming increasingly irrelevant. Doesn't help that MS called several European countries "2nd tier countries."

Basically, while not a failure, the Xbox One is definitely selling poorer than Microsoft would have you believe.

To make matters worse, the Halo series, Microsoft's flagship franchise, has seen an almost 60% drop off in sales when comparing Halo 5 to Halo 3 and Halo 4.

I'd say the Xbox brand has an uncertain future.

Re: Yep, PS4 Is Wrecking the Competition in France, Too

IceClimbers

The Xbox is only relevant in the US and the UK, making up 75% of it's install base (13.6 million out of 18 million).

The Xbox One, assuming it has a 5 year cycle and continues at the pace it's at now, will hit around 40 million lifetime. Massive decline from that of the Xbox 360. Of course, it won't continue at the same pace at all, and will slow down. So about 35 million - not much better than the Nintendo 64.

So overall, I'd say the Xbox One is doing poorly, and the future of the Xbox brand is uncertain, especially with the massive decline their flagship franchise has seen.

I should point out that the Wii U has still sold more LTD than the Xbox One in both France and Germany.

On a side note, Splatoon has sold 300k in France alone, and was the 4th best selling game of 2015 in that country, which is excellent!

Re: Third-Parties Nudge Exclusives Out of USA's 2015 Best Sellers List

IceClimbers

Anyways, want to see some God-tier levels of Microsoft PR spin?

Look at this sentence from at the end of their PR statement, and tell me what the spin is:

"Xbox is the best place for gamers and the only console that has all top 10 best-selling titles of this generation that launched in 2015."

Notice it? Look at this part: "launched in 2015."

Now look at the chart in the article. Yeah, they excluded games that didn't launch in 2015 (such as GTA V, Minecraft, and CoD AW) until the top ranking Xbox exclusive (presumably Halo 5) was in the top 10 list.

Amazing PR spin.

Re: Third-Parties Nudge Exclusives Out of USA's 2015 Best Sellers List

IceClimbers

@Gamer83 That wouldn't do anything for Nintendo. People in the US want to play the big western multiplatform games, but they don't want to buy a Nintendo platform to play them.

Nintendo is basically more niche in the west than in the past.

@WebHead Interestingly enough, from what I've read on Neogaf, the top 10 for Japan paints a completely different picture - it's all 3DS and Wii U exclusives, though not all of those are 1st party Nintendo releases.

Re: Feature: 25 Games That Will Make PS4's 2016 Insane

IceClimbers

Tons of games I'm looking forward to across all my systems, I'm not sure which ones to give attention to and which ones not to. There's some mind boggling variety in games this year, completely ignoring platforms. Action-platformers, action games, JRPGs, shooters, racing games, fighting games, etc.

Gravity Rush Remastered, Gravity Rush 2, Uncharted 4, Ratchet & Clank, and Far Cry Primal interest me the most on PS4. Zelda and maybe Pokken or Star Fox on my Wii U. Fire Emblem Fates, Pokemon Z, and maybe Final Fantasy Explorers or Bravely Second on my 3DS. Too many games, not enough time or money.

Re: Talking Point: Did PlayStation Experience 2015 Meet Your Expectations?

IceClimbers

Was somewhat underwhelming. Uncharted, R&C, Yakuza, SFV, KOFXIV, FFVII Remake, Ni No Kuni 2, and Nioh looked great. The indies failed to grab my attention and the VR demo was a disaster. There was also a lack of 1st party stuff.

That being said, there's a lot to look forward to next year. Gravity Rush Remastered, Gravity Rush 2, No Man's Sky, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian, Uncharted, R&C, SFV, etc.
