Geez the comments here are so skeptical. I know Ubisoft isn't making the best games and releases them in a broken state but they are not always like that. I mean, if Ubisoft Milan did a fantastic job on the Mario + Rabbids games then i'm sure they will cook with a Rayman remake. Michel Ancel is also involved with the new game so it'll be a hit with no misses.
I usually pre-order games digitally mostly solely for the art book (because I'm an artist) but I haven't pre-ordered anything digitally for a while due to financial issues.
It was a niche handheld console at the beginning but it became a bit useful thanks to the ability to connect to WiFi in public places like cafes and restaurants. I only use it when I have some interesting games to play on PS5 (like Astro Bot I played before my bowling session)
I believe Astro's Playroom being a free pack-in game for PS5 also helped the game to sell so well, just like I predicted.
I'm really happy to see a new 3D platformer IP doing so well, here's hoping PlayStation turns Astro Bot into a franchise so it can rival Mario, and Sony continues making and marketing more games like this.
While it isn’t a mega-hit like I initially expected (not every game has to sell billions to be considered a hit), it’s still a rare success for an original PlayStation game based on a diverse genre. Astro's Playroom being a free pack-in title for PS5 at launch certainly helped this game to sell good.
Not even Tearaway Unfolded or Dreams would reach that high in sales and I wished for these games to sell the same high numbers as Astro Bot.
Here's hoping Sony announces the sales numbers soon like they did with Rift Apart.
Called it! I knew Astro Bot's sales would fare better on digital! Goes to show you that you can't take physical sales seriously anymore as they become more niche and will probably not exist anymore in the next few years.
As someone who loves this game, this news makes me happy.
Again, this isn't something i worry about. Sony has said time and time again that nearly 80% of all PlayStation game sales came from digital. And since Astro's Playroom was a free launch game on PS5, the game may have fared much better digitally.
I think this is an UK and US-only problem. I'm from Nordic and i pre-ordered the Astro Bot controller on the morning when the pre-orders opened I checked other retailers a couple of days later to see if they still had pre-orders available and they did. Yesterday I accidentally canceled pre-orders for both the controller and the game but luckily I managed to pre-order them again in the same retailer without failure.
I will get Astro Bot since i pre-ordered it on the day the pre-orders were open (and i will get the digital deluxe edition later), but i have not decided if i will get LEGO Horizon but it looks fun.
From a sales perspective, i'm sure Astro Bot will succeed because it's already #1 on Amazon in multiple regions, and I have a feeling Sony will market the game well since they featured Astro Bot in the Days of Play campaign before the game was officially announced.
But LEGO Horizon will prolly sell more since it's also on the Switch.
I hope MS still lets Activision release future Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games on all platforms, like how they still support Minecraft on all platforms.
I gave my younger brother a physical copy of Sonic Frontiers for Christmas last year. While he thought the game was weird at first he still liked it. I'm planning to give him Sonic Superstars as a Christmas present this year.
With that said. I'm okay with the digital-only future since I only buy physical copies of games purely for pre-order bonuses, I did it back in 2015. I wish there was a way to gift PSN users digital games at the same price, it's weird how Sony hasn't thought of doing that yet, but I think it's feasible.
But what REALLY grinds my gears is how these American kids are into live-service games, letting their parents pay in-game currencies, battle passes, and pointless subscriptions for them. These kinds of things should be banned in general, it's like gambling.
Also, who the heck would still let their 10-year-olds play Call of Duty in 2023?
At this point, i suspect game studios are using AI to determine game release windows and everyone got October, which caused this to become the very crowded game release month it is now.
Considering how successful The Super Mario Bros Movie was I wouldn't be surprised if PlayStation Productions began to make animated adaptations of their older mascot platformers like Astro Bot and Sackboy, or maybe give Ratchet & Clank and the canceled Sly Cooper movies another chance at Sony Animation and make them more in line with the games.
Also, MediEvil being animated makes sense even if I have zero connection with it.
PlayStation: "We create diverse range of games" Also PlayStation: completely under market their games that aren’t in a realistic setting with actual people so that it doesn’t make Ratchet & Clank money and then shutting the developer down
I think this might be a great thing. This franchise has been struggling for years but is slowly getting better, i can see SEGA helping Rovio to make even better games unless they don’t rush on their games like they did with Sonic Team. Angry Birds was one of my biggest childhood games and seeing it being owned by the same company as Sonic is kind of mind blowing
Man, i like PlayStation, but I genuinely hate how their open world cinematic games and Ratchet & Clank gets all the spotlight while games that doesn’t feature a realistic setting with actual people get sidelined because it's for toddlers.
At least Mm is working on a new game which is exciting. Sucks that Dreams didn’t get past more than 3 years during its support, it deserved more if Sony doesn't have that mindset.

Re: Official List of PS5 Pro Launch Games Revealed by Sony
Notice how Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the only 3D platformer on the list to be supported on PS5 Pro

Sucker Punch, in retaliation, says ''ok thevious raccoonnus'' and makes a new Sly Cooper game with all PS5 features.
Right?
Re: Tencent, Guillemot Family Reportedly Considering Ubisoft Buyout
Sony should buy Ubisoft and let Team Asobi make a new Rayman game
Re: Prospective PS6 Purchasers Would Consider a Portable Model
Sony should make the PS6 a traditional and handheld hybrid console like Nintendo Switch. DualSense can stay as a standalone accessory.
Re: Japan Sales Charts: PS5 Continues to Tank in Japan Following Price Increase
@Shad361 Not really, Astro Bot was the 2nd best-selling game in the US and UK when it came out.

@ChrisDeku Oh, got it. Thanks for the clarification.
Re: PS5's Astro Bot the USA's Second Best-Selling Game in Its First Week
I'm so glad this game had a solid sales debut.

Re: Astro Bot PS5 Sales 'Aren't Huge' in UK, But There's Still Hope
Welcome to physical media in 2024, i will be your tour guide.
Jokes aside, I think most of this game's audience is digital since Astro's Playroom, its tech demo predecessor, was a pack-in game for PS5.
Re: Astro Bot PS5 Sales 'Aren't Huge' in UK, But There's Still Hope
@breakneck Warhammer doesn't impact Astro Bot's sales at all, those are for vastly different audiences
Re: Do You Want Astro Bot on PC? Creative Director Wants to Know
It would be funny if the Dual Speeder gets replaced by a keyboard speeder in the PC version

Re: Astro Bot Has Over 150 PlayStation Character Cameos
I hope we could see an Atoi bot flying on a paper plane in one of the Dual Speedster parts in the game, that would be a good nod to Tearaway Unfolded.

@Nexozi There are some other new games based on smaller IPs coming out this year according to rumours
Re: Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, More Closed in Brutal Bethesda Restructure
I haven't tried Hi-Fi Rush but i'm interested on playing it someday, it looks so cool. Still very mad that the devs behind it are getting the purge.

So Sony is now making productions based on SEGA and Nintendo properties. What a weird timeline to show to a kid in the 90's.

Re: Rumour: Sony to Host Big PlayStation Event Next Month
A new Astro Bot game for either PS5 or PSVR 2 would be great
Re: Rumour: Gravity Rush 2 Remaster Dropping onto PS5, PC, Reveal Coming in May
This and that new Astro Bot game rumor tells me we might be getting another PlayStation Showcase this year.
Re: Sony's London Studio, Media Molecule Were Reportedly 'Highest on the List' for Closure
Thank god Media Molecule is still open, I hope their next game is just as ambitious as Tearaway and Dreams. They dodged a huge bullet there.
Re: Crash Bandicoot, Spyro Dev Toys for Bob Becomes Independent Studio, May Partner with Microsoft
A new original 3D platformer, but i'm all in for a new Spyro game even If i have yet to complete the Reignited Trilogy.
Re: Unannounced Games from PlayStation Studios Have Been Cancelled
@Savage_Joe I meant smaller first-party titles that aren't major in Sony's eyes (like Spider-Man or God of War) and new IPs like Concord.
Re: Unannounced Games from PlayStation Studios Have Been Cancelled
@Savage_Joe They meant there won't be any first-party games based on their big IPs this year, not first-party games in general.

Xbox Dreamcast

Re: Microsoft's Potential Game Plan in 2020: 'Spend Sony Out of Business'

Re: SEGA and Bungie Were On Microsoft's Shopping List in 2020, Xbox Emails Show
I doubt Microsoft will ever buy SEGA.
They're owned by Sammy Holdings which also owns pachinko slots, theme parks, toys, etc which Microsoft wouldn't be much interested.
I feel like a lot of the comments here forgot this fact, but yeah, that would honestly make me very angry at Microsoft.
Re: Poll: How Hyped Are You for the PlayStation Showcase?
I hope it's good. By what i mean good is that it does feature a good varied line-up that doesn't heavily rely on realistic 3rd person adventure games.
Re: PlayStation Showcase Is 'Happening Very Soon', Says Reliable Reporter
If the showcase offers first-party games that don't have the same realistic setting with actual humans, then I'm tuning in.
Well, I will watch it anyway, just not getting my hopes up.
