Re: Reaction: E3 Is a Relic Desperately Clinging to Relevancy

RadioHedgeFund

I know you mentioned it but this really does read like the kid who wasn’t invited to the party stating that maybe we don’t need parties anymore. Sony needs to come back. We miss them!

Without the show floor it has certainly become interesting in the last couple of years but it’s still a special time of year for gaming. Maybe with cloud gaming now being a thing companies can allow gamers to pay for an E3 pass and allow them to stream the same demos journalists get to play? There would be no downloads and therefore no risk of datamining spoiling everything.

If we look at the facts though Xbox players have a lot to look forward to through 2022 and Nintendo’s release calendar is amazingly solid for the next 6 months. As a PlayStation gamer you’re kinda left thinking ‘well what about me? Where’s my release list?’ and I feel for that.

Re: Reaction: Xbox Game Pass Is the Thorn in PS5's Side

RadioHedgeFund

I play mostly on Xbox these days but hardly use Gamepass. Its great as a rental service for the odd game I want to play but anything I really want I will end up buying simply because I know at some point a game like Forza Horizon 4 will be delisted due to expired licences in music and therefore become unplayable unless you own a legacy copy (like 1-3)

Re: Sony: Perverse to Restrict First-Party IP to PlayStation Community, Mobile News Coming Soon

RadioHedgeFund

Sony are sitting on a pile of PSP software that would port well over to mobile. Locoroco and Patapon would be a start. They could easily just give away the first few levels and then IAP the rest of the game. The gameplay wouldn’t need much changing at all. Super Rub’a’Dub and Calling All Cars would work pretty well on mobile too.

It might be a push but we might even get a new Wipeout.

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony Lie About PS5?

RadioHedgeFund

Whilst it is nice to have exclusives to justify the purchase of your shiny new console, this isn’t the first time we have seen big titles launch across generations. Nintendo did it with Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild, 2 pretty big games!

Sony equally want a decent return on their software so naturally want to release it on as many platforms as possible, especially whilst stock shortages remain. Sony aren’t having any trouble selling PS5 consoles!

Re: New PS Vita Games Will Sadly Cease This Summer

RadioHedgeFund

I wish Sony would kind of do the opposite and bring some of its portable franchises over to mobile.

Annapurna did sterling jobs on Unfinished Swan, Flower and Journey. Why not port over Flow, Patapon and Locoroco? Or an update to Pursuit Force? That would work quite well with touch controls.

Re: Poll: Is PlayStation Losing Ground to Xbox?

RadioHedgeFund

Sony’s big weapon against game pass is compelling exclusives but due to the pandemic they are few and far between.

Unfortunately once Sony’s bug guns start rolling in Microsoft will have their own new generation of first party exclusives to counter too.

Hopefully this means this generation will be more like the Xbox 360 vs the PS3.

Re: PS3, PS Vita, and PSP Online Stores to Close This Summer, Says New Report

RadioHedgeFund

To be fair to Sony this has been a long time coming. Unlike Xbox the modern consoles do not need the old online stores to function. It is unlikely Sony make much money off the PS3 and PS Vita stores.

It would be a shame however if they also closed down online purchase lists preventing gamers from redownloading purchased content on older consoles. I'd like to think Sony would offer to keep those parts alive for a few years.

With the PS and Vita however its not really a problem. As soon as Sony remove the ability to purchase games from them then hacking your console and installing ROMs becomes a grey area rather than outright illegal as you cannot give Sony any money for games.

Re: Sackboy: A Big Adventure (PS5) - Lovely Launch Game Is LittleBigBrilliant

RadioHedgeFund

This to me is a launch title in a nutshell:. Decent single player, technically superb and a good excuse to grab an extra controller so the kids can join in. It's pretty hard to justify a brand new console if you're only interested in games for yourself!

Microsoft massively dropped the ball on this last gen. There are next to no good co-op family games on the Xbox outside of Lego.

Re: Why PS5 Fans Think Gran Turismo 7 Is Releasing Soon

RadioHedgeFund

It's a shame this didn't make launch. Racing games are always a good bet for a launch title: they normally offer a good technical showcase, stable online, split-screen and a pile of stuff to do. Past standouts PGR3, WipEout Pure, Forza 5 and Wave Race: Blue Storm come to mind.

Re: The Elder Scrolls, Fallout Developer Bethesda Bought By Microsoft

RadioHedgeFund

@Carck what has the last 4 years brought though? Fan-led remakes that have nothing to do with the original developers, Atlus who are outside Sammy’s conservative business culture and the western launch of an 8-year-old MMORPG that lacks the simplicity of its forebear.

Look at the franchises section of Sega’s website: all aquisitions and nothing internally developed bar Yakuza which itself was an offshoot of Shenmue.

It’s not been all bad. Sega’s relationship with indie devs is fantastic and they’ve done a great job of updating some of their most beloved franchises. Their merchandise operation is fantastic.

But you can put your fingers in to ears as much as you want because bar Yakuza the last truly great internally-developed Sega game that really stood out was the original Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 in 2008.

Re: The Elder Scrolls, Fallout Developer Bethesda Bought By Microsoft

@Carck Sega have had a few successes with stalwarts like Total War and Football manager, Atlus and Yakuza but all the best ‘Sega’ games of recent years (Sonic Mania, Wonderboy, Streets of Rage 4, the forthcoming Alex Kidd) have been made by external teams of fans.

Sammy just aren’t interested in pushing Sega as far as they can. They’ve been limping along for the last 2 decades and it’s a massive shame because Sega helped build the games industry. They showed that Nintendo were not invincible and they created over the years some of the greatest video games ever developed. They were a big part of my childhood and many others.

But they’ve been rotting for years. https://www.digitiser2000.com/main-page/sega-deserves-to-rot-by-mr-biffo#

Re: Reaction: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Today's PS5 News

RadioHedgeFund

On one hand games price rises have been coming for a while. I paid £50 for Perfect Dark and Majoras Mask on N64 in 2000. PS2 games were all £40 each. That was 20 years ago. This is why we have DLC and IAP: devs need to recoup the costs of development.

On the other a £70 cover price is very off-putting. £50 for the game plus £20 for DLC is a little easier to swallow.
