Re: E3 2022 Has Been Completely Cancelled

RadioHedgeFund

So many negative tweets. What E3 gave us was a definitive few days on the calendar when we knew for definite something exciting would be announced.

As it currently stands a Nintendo Direct etc can pop up with only a days notice. I liked having that week in May/June with all the press conferences.

Re: Sony's Cloud Streamed PS3 Games Are Causing a Storm on Social Media

RadioHedgeFund

It’s the ‘game freak have the Pokémon models’ all over again.

PS3 emulation might be theoretically possible on the PS5 but that Cell architecture is a *****. Maybe the boffins at Sony already tried and decided against it? They got PS2 emulation running which is just as difficult.

Honestly streaming isn’t a big deal. You already have your PS hooked up to the internet and PS3 games require significantly less bandwidth than 4 or 5 titles.

Re: Poll: We Want You to Rate Your Favourite PSP Games

The first time I saw WipEout Pure running on that screen my jaw hit the floor. The post-game support via the DLC system (something entirely new for console games at that point) was outstanding, particularly the Omega pack we got in the UK as an apology for the late launch.

Greatest racing game of all time.

Re: Amazon Primed for Live Action God of War TV Series

RadioHedgeFund

Rather than an expensive live-action series Amazon could have made an adult animated version along the lines of Legend of Vox Machina. They could be as fantastical, sex-ridden, violent as they like and still keep the budget down.

This would also allow them to get TC Carson as the younger Kratos and Christopher Judge as the older.

Re: The Universe Is the Limit for PS5, PS4 Survival Game No Man's Sky

@Gigawatt-Kapow It was almost souls-like: spawn on death world with acid atmosphere eating your armour. Die. Repeat. Die. Get bearings. Die. Find Ship. Sit inside and make a plan. Etc etc.

A beautiful start to the game because the first time you take off through the atmosphere 😳 and you’re so glad to leave that horrible death world behind.

@Gloamin I quite like games like this. Metroid is an obvious banner example of the solitude genre but the majority of Zero Dawn has a similar feel.

I hope that Aloy isn’t joined by her friends too much in Forbidden West as solo exploring the ruins of the old ones is spine tingling. Having to babysit others whilst doing it, not so much.

Re: So, It Seems Xbox Really Will Keep Activision Games Like Call of Duty on PS5, PS4

RadioHedgeFund

As I said weeks ago, this was a protectionist move. By being responsible for key gaming franchises like Call of Duty it puts Microsoft in a position of caretaker.

More importantly it keeps them out of the hands of Google, Amazon or some Chinese or Saudi conglomerate wanting to buy in to the industry.

Microsoft want to maintain the status quo because it benefits them. I imagine if someone was insane enough to make an offer for a company like Nintendo Microsoft would outbid them just to scare them off.

Re: Square Enix Reveals New Final Fantasy VII Anniversary Logos, Hopes You're 'Ready for the Year Ahead'

RadioHedgeFund

With any luck they'll finally release FF7R on the Xbox for a start.

A remaster of Crisis Core would be nice. That has been locked away on the PSP for far too long (unless its part of the new streaming service....)

Ever Crisis looks cool. I am down with a decent mobile remake as its the only PS1 game that hasn't had a decent port. Even FFVIII, a game they lost most of the assets for had a decent mobile port.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Is Reportedly 'About as Long' as Horizon Zero Dawn

RadioHedgeFund

I am 40 hours in and only just climbed Ted Faro's tower. I am happy to potter around doing side quests, photograph the sunrise and generally just enjoy being in the world.

I do hope they've cut down the amount of forced fights in this one. I don't mind the robots being tough to take down out in the wild because you have all manner of options for taking them down but when you're trapped in an arena spamming arrows or melee attacks it really isn't fun. Knocking the difficulty down to 'story' during these events does make them a lot more bearable. If the game does still have bosses at least make them boss-level enemies with weak points and attack patterns rather than just fights against normal enemies.

Re: Poll: Does Sony Need to Take Action After Microsoft's Activision Buyout?

RadioHedgeFund

No. Sony buys dev talent, not a basket of franchises it really has no need for. One of Sony’s strengths is its willingness to drop seemingly popular franchises for new ones.

During the PS4 era they could have had Guerrilla crank out another Killzone but they took a bet on HZD. They could have forced Sucker Punch to do another Infamous but instead we got Ghost of Tsushima. They could have got Kojima to do another stealth title but instead backed Death Stranding. They bankrolled Shenmue 3!

I fully expect the PS5 generation to be the same. Honestly I’d prefer a risky bet like Death Stranding to another bloody Halo or Call of Duty.

Re: EA Is the Next Major Publisher Tipped for a Takeover

RadioHedgeFund

Sony tends to buy developers rather than publishers and knows the value of new franchises as well as established. They will happily dump something good (Motorstorm) for something new.

Any EA takeover would be subject to a huge antitrust case as they have an effective monopoly on many sports genres.

Re: This Is Why PlayStation Wants to Make Smartphone Games

RadioHedgeFund

It would help if they concentrated on quality.

Discount the WipEout licence and Rush isn’t actually a bad way to kill 5 minutes on the bus. (It got soft launched on Android in the U.K.) But it could easily have been more in depth and made better use of the licence by framing you as an AG team manager making split-second decisions during full 3-lap races.

What Sony could do is use mobile to revive some dormant franchises that would actually work for mobile. Loo rock is an obvious one. They could offer the first world for free and then the rest as IAP with maybe the different coloured blobs as cosmetics. Patapon would be a good fit too.

Re: Sony Removing PS Now Subscription Cards in UK Ahead of Supposed PS Plus Overhaul

RadioHedgeFund

@Integrity Build it and they will come. Had Microsoft not canned most of its 1st party titles at the start of the Xbox One era out is doubtful we would even have Game Pass.

I think what attracts PlayStation gamers to a sub is access to classic titles. A much more robust selection of PS1-3 games together with trophy support would make it worth the money. This may even be how the tiers work: £3/m to play PS1, £5 for 1+2 and so on.

Sony and Nintendo prove that selling exclusives rather than perpetually renting them is not only better value for money but still very profitable.

Re: PlayStation Studios: All Sony First-Party Developers and What They're Working On

RadioHedgeFund

Whilst not a wholly owned subsiduary it is likely that whatever Hideo Kojima is working on next will be a PS5 exclusive. Whether this is a Silent Hill game (Sony were rumoured to have brought the licence from Konami) or something new is open to debate.

I am a little sad that there are no racing titles listed anywhere. Forza Horizon 5 garnered a lot of GOTY awards last month and whilst Gran Turismo 7 is a big deal, its not a new arcade racer.

A new WipEout has surely got to be in the offering as a launch title for the PSVR2 and a new Motorstorm wouldn't hurt either.
