Re: Analysts Expect PS5 to Extend Lead on Xbox Series X|S in 2023

Rudy_Manchego

I came here for the comments and was not disappointed.

I'm not a fan of the AB acquistion because I believe it will restrict consumer choice. I'm also not a fan of Sony buying Bungie, timed exclusivity on games or the $70 price rise. None of these companies are your friend nor are we privy to their strategies until way after they happen. Just my two cents

Re: PSVR2 Review: Is It Worth It?

Rudy_Manchego

Thought I'd hop back on for a quick comment. Great review. A part of me wants this but as I have a Meta Quest 2 and a PC, it's not doing anything new for me for the price. Plus I have to admit that I don't have the workspace for the best movement related games. I'd agree that this is a great piece of kit launching at the wrong time. The PS5 has only now started being available, money is tight and VR has never really broken out beyond the (excellent) niche that it is.

As a day one adopter of PSVR (with no regrets), the sense of wonder has gone and I can't afford the price tag for something I'll not play loads.

Re: Poll: Will You Pay the PSVR2 Launch Price?

Rudy_Manchego

Day one PSVR1 owner and a fan of VR but to be honest, gonna hold fire. I get the tech on display is pretty beefy and the device looks great but with a Quest 2 and a VR capable PC, I'm personally finding it a struggle to justify the price. I feel that the price is going to be a bigger barrier to entry at this point, especially given the struggles in getting PS5's into homes. By this point in a console gen, the base console is normally dropping in price but that is staying high and this is as much again.

Re: Sony Will Continue to Make PS4 Games Moving Forwards

Rudy_Manchego

As a PS5 owner, I've loved Ratchet and Clank for example as something that felt next gen. At the same time, we are way out in terms of usual gen arrangements. Approaching the two year anniversary of the PS5 and normally by this point in the lifespan we'd be seeing price drops and new bundles etc. Right now, people still can't walk into a shop and buy one. At the same time, millions of people still game daily on PS4... so what are they going to do.

Same issue with MS to a certain extent.

Re: Sony Producing Two Million PSVR2 Headsets by March 2023

Rudy_Manchego

Can't lie - was a PSVR day one adopter but now I have the Quest 2 and a PC, I'm not really feeling the PSVR2. I think the killer point for me was the lack of backwards compatibility. I guess there may be some upgrades or ports but it feels like they are killing some great exclusives.

Re: Poll: Is The Last of Us: Part 1 Really a 'Cash Grab'?

Rudy_Manchego

Cash grab is an emotive word but I'd argue it isn't necessary.

TLOU Part 1 is a game that is avaialble and has been available on 3 generations of consoles. It plays well. TLOU2 can play on 2 generations of consoles. It also plays well.

To compare with Demon Souls, that game was only available on a previous generation, was expensive to buy second hand and also slightly janky in comparison to modern titles. It was also a niche title that remained unplayed by many genre fans. A ground up remake was a great idea.

In one respect, tinkering and making Part1 look and feel more like Part 2 sounds sort of ok but really, no one was really crying out for it. Add the price point and the fact that it will then have a PC launch to coincide with the TV adaptation and it makes it even more pointless.

Re: Soapbox: I Tried So Hard to Like Elden Ring, But I Just Couldn’t Do It

Rudy_Manchego

I am not a blanket Souls fan. Struggled with Demon and Dark Souls but Bloodborne is possibly one of my favourite games ever. Elden Ring is up there with the best Open World games I have ever played. That comes with pros and cons. The difficulty and quest for gear and levelling up made exploration feel more meaningful. At the same time, it couldn't escape the lack of narrative drive and repeated enemies etc. that are a staple of open world games.

I think it is a very good (I scored it a 9) but I have played through Bloodborne multiple times and I'm not sure I want to plug another 90+ hours into Elden Ring.

Re: Feature: What We Want From Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and How It Needs to Improve on Remake

Rudy_Manchego

Late to the party here but having only played a bit of FF7 back on PS1 at a friends house where we worked through some of it, I am only vaguely aware of some of the story.

I struggle with JRPG's, especially the story but that said I thoroughly enjoyed FF7 Remake. It was mental, over the top and epicly lavish. The combat was just so well executed that the long boss battles felt dynamic rather than a slog.

So I just want more of the same really. Less filler side quests would be good though.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS Plus Extra or Premium?

Rudy_Manchego

Meh not really - at this point, I keep a PS Plus sub for online play and cloud saves. The offering is OK and I like the start of getting older games out there. However, i have a big PS1, PS2, PSP and PS3 library already and I don't have enough time to play as it is.

Re: Play Days Gone on the Broken Road with Steam Deck Support

Rudy_Manchego

@Bleachedsmiles Weirdly, not all of Xbox titles support cross save across Console, Cloud and PC. Some do but not all of them (or at least they didn't last year when I tried). As an example, I started Outer Worlds on Console, had played in the cloud but it didn't work with the PC version from the Gamepass store.

I personally think Cross save is a win win for everyone. Take Hades for example, i bought it on PC but bought the Switch copy so i could play on the go. A lot of gamers have more than one device - for example, I know some friends who are divorced and the mum has a PS4 and the Dad an xbox. I could see them buying to copies of a game if the cross save worked! It's a big thing in fortnight I think?

Re: Talking Point: Is Sony Being Stingy with PS5's First-Party Pricing?

Rudy_Manchego

Late to the game on this one, but I am priced out of new games. I would easily have bought both Returnal and Ratchet and Clank day one if not for the price. In fact, I still haven't picked them up.

I have said this before but the extra £20 PS5 tax is completely mad and is slightly ruining the new PS5 for me. It is just a money grab that is not in line with the rest of the industry.

Re: Rumour: Beyond Good and Evil 2 'Still Several Years Away'

Rudy_Manchego

Here's the thing - this game did not need all this development time if they had concentrated on what made the original so good. Instead, you just know the problem is trying to mash the source material with head office mandated huge online persisted world that is ripe for monetisation.

Fans would be happy with a great 13 hour game that built on the foundation of the first game. That just isn't the type of game that Ubisof want to make anymore.

Re: Soapbox: Some Games Assume You Know How to Play Them, and It's Kinda Weird

Rudy_Manchego

@theheadofabroom Eh? Here in the U.K, primary school and compulsory education starts at 5. A lot of children will begin to learn phonics before that age but not to the level where they can, you know, read and contextualise the complexity of rental agreements with Tom Nook on screen in Animal Crossing.

I love the fact you know lots of genius 3 yr olds but believe me, that is an exception.

Re: Soapbox: Some Games Assume You Know How to Play Them, and It's Kinda Weird

Rudy_Manchego

A few years ago I tried to get my wife into gaming again (she used to play GB and PS1 back in the day but largely platform based games). I tried her on Gone Home as I thought she would like the story and she just... couldn't get her head around moving and looking around. She tried for a bit, kept getting it wrong and then gave up.

For me it was profoundly frustrating because it seems as natural as breathing but she just got frustrated. Now I imagine she would have picked it up if she was that interested but to her, the whole thing of moving with one stick and looking with the other felt unnatural. Not sure it needs tutorials but I think we forget that so much of our gaming has become second nature and is harder for some to get into.

Re: Round Up: Far Cry 6 Reviews Paint a Familiar Open World Picture

Rudy_Manchego

I enjoyed Far Cry 2, loved Far Cry 3, got bored in Far Cry 4 and got half way through Far Cry 5 before stopping. The games just didn't change at all. Plus they are so long and bloated.

They aren't in any way bad games, they play well. I guess you could say that you get value for money in terms of time played. I'm in the minority and I guess it is sort of comfort gaming food but I don't get the fact that the same game is now being released every year or so and sells bucket loads.

Re: UK Sales Charts: PS5 Stock Shortages Force Sony Exclusives Out of the Top 10

Rudy_Manchego

@naruball Not a problem. I'm assuming the argument here is, well I paid £60+ for a Super Nintendo game in 1993 and that was cheaper to produce so prices should be higher now?

Well it is true that yes, games cost more but have stayed the same price. Surely we should pay more for games that are ever and ever larger? Well, that would be true if it were not for a few factors.

1) The Gaming industry is larger now and generates more revenue and profit then it has ever done. That's with the games staying the same price.

2) Gaming revenue is now not just related to the RRP of a launch price product. DLC, season passes, merchandies, MTX, Battles passes make up a lot of revenue. Not to mention licensing to things like subscription services or PS Plus/XB Gold etc.

3) The increasing cost of games is self driven from the industry. To try and keep selling, everyone is looking for more and more unique selling points and a lot of that focuses now on game length and graphical fidelity.

4) Price points are typically set by what the consumer sees the value as. This ties into my point. From a budgetary perspective, given that I have become accustomed and there is competing products for my money, the balance of a £50 launch game price has hit a sweet spot for gamers.

Comparing an industry and the market from now, when everyone games on one device or another is, to something 30 years ago is always a fallacy. So here is where I am coming from. Within less than a year a product price has changed by £20 with no noticeable reason to me as a consumer. So I, like many other consumers, are basically saying NO to it because the price to value proposition is less.

This is an experiment by Sony. If enough people pay the £70 at day one and the £20 price hike is enough to offset the loss of customers like me, it will stay. If enough people vote with their wallets then it won't.

Re: UK Sales Charts: PS5 Stock Shortages Force Sony Exclusives Out of the Top 10

Rudy_Manchego

@BAMozzy Spot on - I have a PS5 and haven't bought an exlcusive title due to the £70 price hike. Returnal and Ratchet and Clank would have been day one.

@AgentGuapo It's weird because last year the hobby was cheaper. I bought TLOU2 and GoT at £49.99 yet for games released in less than a year I have to pay £20 more. So if you can tell me why the hobby is now more expensive than it was less than 12 months ago, that would be great.
