Re: PS5 Pro Will Upgrade the Xbox-Owned Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

@Mikey856 depends on what you want. While the ease of consoles is definitely nice (Windows is an absolute pain of an OS), an RTX 4070ti can do full path tracing with DLSS up to 4k at 60fps, and it’ll take at least the PS6 to get close to that, possibly PS6 Pro or PS7 (speaking of which, when do devs and the general gaming community agree we have enough power to run absolutely anything?)

Re: PS5 May Soon Be Unchallenged by Xbox in Some Regions

The 360 was a massive fluke (helped massively by releasing way before PS3), and MS tried to ruin that by changing the menus to be Kinect-forward. MS only joined the console market to be a thorn in Sony’s side and it’s clearly not working out for them. Definitely feels like the beginning of the end for Xbox, leaving console gaming to Sony and Nintendo. MS need to rethink their strategy carefully. If they get their next system out before the PS6 they might have a chance, but only if it’s ready. I doubt making a handheld will work - Steam Deck hasn’t sold a huge number of systems, and the Switch successor will hold the vast majority of that market.

Re: Tech Experts Reckon PS5 Pro Could Help Pave the Way to PS6

@Fiendish-Beaver a lot’s riding on the next Xbox for sure. MS really needs to convince players it’s worth getting one, and it’s not just about fancier ray tracing, but games. Sony and MS own so many studios that you’d think they’d organise it to have one or two big releases per year minimum, since games of that complexity and visual fidelity take so long to develop now. The tech has advanced too quickly - with the Switch, Nintendo can still release big titles at a reasonable rate while keeping the budgets under control, so they rarely need 1 million sales just to break even (Zelda BOTW & TOTK being those titles), let alone the 10 mil+ some games on PS5 and XSX need to sell these days.
If MS stuff up their next console and drop out (or go PC & handheld only), I agree that they’ll gouge gamers as much as they think they can - we’re already seeing that with the ridiculous price of the PS5 Pro. Just because I can afford to pay that, doesn’t mean I’m going to.

Re: Tech Experts Reckon PS5 Pro Could Help Pave the Way to PS6

@Fiendish-Beaver it depends on when they release the next Xbox. Rumour has it they’re going to release it in 2 years, and if PS6 arrives 2 years after that, it makes perfect sense that the PS6 will be more powerful. If the console releases stay staggered like that, assuming Xbox sales don’t tank so badly MS gives up altogether, then they’ll essentially leapfrog one another in terms of power, as you said.

Re: Bickering Begins Over PS5 Pro's Inability to Sell Out

SilentBluntman

@Major_Player it is deniable though, as all evidence shows demand vastly outpaced supply — you can only make so many consoles at a time, and IIRC, they were using a more trusted manufacturer to ensure consistency and quality. You underestimate just how successful the Switch is.

Re: Fans Appear to Be Coming Around to PS5 Pro

Hardly a scientific poll, is it? Did as many people vote? Were they the same people? Try one that asks what people put in the first poll, then whether they changed their minds.
The fact that preorders are still available speaks volumes.

Re: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Looks Sublime on PS5

@HonestHick my RTX 4070 ti does a great job with Cyberpunk now I know to disable full screen optimisation (I can DLSS from performance to full 4k but it looks over-sharpened, even with the sharpness turned to 0, so I run it at 85% of 4k and it looks great - path tracing is fantastic), so it should run really well. Now I know about full screen optimisation causing issues and how to disable it I’m much more confident about choosing the PC versions of games provided they don’t have shader compilation stutter.
Hopefully you can get yourself a Pro and have a great experience playing it.

@Vaako007 their TVs are way overpriced, especially their OLEDs considering LG make the screens and the LG TVs are often considered better. Sony charge for the name, feeling they can get away with pricing stuff 2-3 times higher than it’s actually worth. They also make it so you have to keep manually turning Dolby Vision on and off on their 4k disc players for some reason - in that field, Panasonic is the best brand anyway.

Re: Rumour: PS6 Could Span a Console and Handheld Device

SilentBluntman

@Vaako007 if you think Sony’s electronics are that great you didn’t see the PS1s that had to be turned upside down to read discs, or all the faulty PS2s that doubtlessly contributed to that 155m consoles “sold” figure. The launch PS2’s disc trays broke remarkably often.

Re: Rumour: PS6 Could Span a Console and Handheld Device

SilentBluntman

Honestly, just have cross-purchase between PS6 and Steam Deck 2 (or maybe 3 by then) and have MS make digital Xbox purchases available to play there too. Most people won’t buy all those handheld devices. If these PS and Xbox handhelds are real then both companies really need to stop copying Nintendo and innovate for once.
