I really hope they announce this for US. I would upgrade for sure because I was on the borderline between getting Killzone or not and I already preordered an extra controller. In that scenario it's like getting the camera for free.
I still want this to come out, but I'm not in any hurry. I hope it's a PS4 game, and I really hope it's here by next holiday season, but as long as it comes out eventually I don't care.
I am a huge fan of old Final Fantasy games and of course I would love to see SE give Final Fantasy the Dragon Quest treatment and release a good quality old school Final Fantasy game. Maybe on a handheld. That being said, I also had absolutely no complaints about XIII. I loved playing it. BUT, I do lack any excitement whatsoever for direct sequels of FF games for some reason. I can't explain it. I've barely touched XIII-2.
If developers decide to stop forcing Vita's touch functionality because of Vita TV, then I count that as a MASSIVE win. Literally the only type of game that I want touchscreen functionality is a puzzle game like bejeweled or escape plan.
I think my personality in gaming is more of a completionist attitude, and for that reason I generally like games that for the most part funnel you through the story with a complete developing focus on the quality of that story and the basic mechanics and gameplay of the game. That's why I'd rather play Zelda than GTA. But I certainly understand the appeal of the sandbox genre. I think another big reason is that I simply don't have a lot of gaming time, so with my personality I'd rather be funneling my way through a game rather than playing around in a sandbox accomplishing nothing. But that's a conscious choice. I guess that's the major difference in a completionist attitude and an escapist attitude.
I only have played the Wii version and it's probably just not my type of game. It felt very bland, not only graphically, and I was basically bored by it. I can see, however, how it would be exponentially more fun with several friends hunting together and with top notch graphics.
@get2sammyb Costume Quest is easily one of my top 10 games I've played on PS3 for that reason. Off topic but I'd love to see Double Fine revisit that world with a little more budget to expand it a bit and include voice acting and cutscenes because I just absolutely love that sort of story and gameplay.
Unfortunately I have nowhere close to enough free time to justify monthly subscriptions anymore. But if I didn't have so many responsibilities I would absolutely be all over this game.
Ha! That's a cool idea for the premium lounge letting in playstation plus members. Although it wouldn't surprise me if Playstation Plus members comprised the majority of those visiting the booth anyway...
Well said, Get2sammyb, I'm going to wait for PS4 as well. I'm going to need some games for my new system anyway, and remote play will always be a fantastic bonus.
Absolutely loved his first remake. Haven't seen the second one. But I heard somewhere that Star Trek fans voted it their least favorite of ALL the movies. I don't see how the game can possibly affect that at all.
Shouldn't I be concerned about the resolution? Other than that, I think this is really awesome. If they market it right it could do very well. Really let people know that it's the cheaper alternative to access the Vita library, and let them know about streaming your ps4 games to other TVs. Packing the VitaTV to go on vacation would be a lot easier than bringing your ps4.
@eLarkos Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is any streaming from your PS Vita going on here. You're basically buying the internals of a new Vita in box form and plugging it into your TV. That's why you're using the dualshock as a controller instead of your Vita. It's nice because it will sell more Vita software and it's also a cheaper alternative to get all of your PS4 games quickly to all of your TVs in the house.
I would pay $400 day one if I can use it with all of my PS4 games. Seriously, I really don't need compatibility with head tracking at all, I just want to use the thing as my TV for immersion.
In fact, I can see myself preferring NOT to use head tracking sometimes. More often than not I would probably just want the giant screen on my face and a controller in my hand.
I'll buy it absolutely without a doubt regardless of price. I'm still curious about this whole notion of "getting developers on board". I would love to hear that I can use my headset for EVERY game as my screen. Maybe less games are compatible with head tracking, but I want every game compatible with the screen. That should be easy, right?
Honestly, I was very excited about the Oculus Rift, but, at the end of the day, all I care about is having the best possible VR product on my PS4. If Sony's peripheral matches the Rift in quality, then I don't care if they team up with Oculus or not. That's just the business side of things. All I want is VR on my PS4.
How awesome! I will absolutely buy one on day one.
And what exactly do developers have to do the make their game compatible with these devices? All I care about is the immersion and putting an imax size screen on your face. I don't care about the head tracking as much which I suspect is the developing-heavy part of it. I'd love to see every game compatible with simply using it as your screen.
That's an interesting thought. I would personally hate to have ALL my gaming be based on an Internet connection. Just like I still prefer the undoubted stability and reliability of a DVD over streaming. I would be very frustrated on a day of spotty service if I couldn't just play what I wanted.
So do you envision this service next year being a one fee for the whole catalog like music unlimited?
This is cool news. Of course the real question is how timely are they going to add content to the service. Right? I hope for once they try to make an overwhelming, all-encompassing catalog of titles. As opposed to their support of PS1 or PSP for Vita, for example.
Of course I'm also curious about price and all that. Is it included in PS+? Are we buying games individually? In a perfect world they will finally allow us to stream all of our previously downloaded ps3 content to the Vita. And basically making the ps4 backwards compatible with all of our ps3 downloads would be very nice.
I'm looking forward to Killzone, but I'm concerned. Killzone 3 was my absolute favorite FPS multiplayer I've ever played, and I really loved the different classes. So we'll see I guess.
knack and killzone look good, but neither of them are guaranteed day 1 purchases for me or anything like that. I voted for average because there are some good looking games and it's pretty much like any other launch except there's nothing that I absolutely must have. I'll get driveclub with ps+ and I think the most likely purchase would have to be Knack because I love cartoony platformers.
@Lelouch I'm still curious to hear more details about remote play as well. I've heard unclear official statements like "using wifi you'll be able to play all of your ps4 games on the Vita at home". Well which is it?
Is this a present from Sony or from Gamestop headquarters? Regardless this is only a good thing. It's quite silly how partial most gamestop employees were to Microsoft last generation and it's simply a bad idea as a retail business to have your employees be biased. Saw someone trading in a ps3 yesterday and one new employee didn't even know how to plug it in/turn it on b/c she only owns an xbox.
@lacerz Thank you! I've been saying that since day 1 of their "radio stations", and I've never heard anyone agree with me. No confirmation from Sony (obviously) and no other customers agreeing with me. It's made me feel crazy. The radio stations based on artists are absolutely horrid. Whatever algorithm they are using is completely useless, and it doesn't factor in your "likes" and "dislikes" at all. Music Unlimited is unbelievably bad at choosing songs for you, which is a very important part of a music service to me, because I want variety but I want the music to actually be good.
If anybody is interested, my suspicion is that Pandora has a patent on the algorithm that chooses music for you based on songs you've liked and disliked, and factors in other users with similar taste and their preferences as well. This is why Music Unlimited, Spotify, and every other service I've tried pales in comparison to Pandora when it comes to choosing music. I'd love to have this confirmed. If this is true and I was Pandora I would be shouting it loud. If it isn't true then Sony needs to fix their radio stations fast because they are a joke. Please choose my music based on the preferences of similar users. Please don't play a song that I've said I disliked. Maybe it would be a good idea to weight the alogorithm to play more popular music first.
@sanquine @get2sammyb I haven't gotten to the point yet where I haven't bought a game I wanted to buy because I didn't have space. If I really wanted a game and I was out of space I would delete an older game. I have however deleted a few PS+ games. Are you implying that you have held off on actually buying a specific game because of space?
@get2sammyb That's a really good point. I'm just a little surprised that behind closed doors for the last 2 years nobody in charge said "hey, let's prioritize getting The Last Guardian ready for the PS4 launch window. Lots of people are excited for this one and it will make a big news splash." Instead apparently behind closed doors they decided to intentionally shift resources away from The Last Guardian.
Basically if The Last Guardian somehow miraculously releases next summer, then you are right and it was a genius idea to wait and spread out the momentum. But if it doesn't release until 2015 then I am just flabbergasted that they didn't want to actively try and get this game closer to launch.
To take absolutely nothing away from Puppeteer and Knack (they both look like great family friendly games and I'll likely pick up both of them eventually) I can't help but think that focusing on The Last Guardian and making it a PS4 launch title would have made really good business sense and push a few more consoles than Knack will. Don't you think?
I am actually quite surprised. I thought for absolute certain that Sony was going to do everything in their power to beat Microsoft to the shelves. It won't be much of a head start, but I'm surprised that Sony opened the door for Microsoft to have a head start at all.

No kidding, if this bundle is sitting next to the Xbox One on store shelves this holiday season for the exact same price, Microsoft would be in big trouble.
