Re: Lightning Can't Help Cosplaying As Her Favourite Final Fantasy VII Characters

Squiggle55

I am a huge fan of old Final Fantasy games and of course I would love to see SE give Final Fantasy the Dragon Quest treatment and release a good quality old school Final Fantasy game. Maybe on a handheld. That being said, I also had absolutely no complaints about XIII. I loved playing it. BUT, I do lack any excitement whatsoever for direct sequels of FF games for some reason. I can't explain it. I've barely touched XIII-2.

Re: Soapbox: Variety Is the Spice of Gaming Life

Squiggle55

I think my personality in gaming is more of a completionist attitude, and for that reason I generally like games that for the most part funnel you through the story with a complete developing focus on the quality of that story and the basic mechanics and gameplay of the game. That's why I'd rather play Zelda than GTA. But I certainly understand the appeal of the sandbox genre. I think another big reason is that I simply don't have a lot of gaming time, so with my personality I'd rather be funneling my way through a game rather than playing around in a sandbox accomplishing nothing. But that's a conscious choice. I guess that's the major difference in a completionist attitude and an escapist attitude.

Re: TGS 2013: Monster Hunter Frontier G Explores Vita in 2014

Squiggle55

I only have played the Wii version and it's probably just not my type of game. It felt very bland, not only graphically, and I was basically bored by it. I can see, however, how it would be exponentially more fun with several friends hunting together and with top notch graphics.

Re: First Impressions: Basking in the Glow of Child of Light

Squiggle55

@get2sammyb Costume Quest is easily one of my top 10 games I've played on PS3 for that reason. Off topic but I'd love to see Double Fine revisit that world with a little more budget to expand it a bit and include voice acting and cutscenes because I just absolutely love that sort of story and gameplay.

Re: Sony Enters the Micro-console Arena With PS Vita TV, The Smallest PlayStation Yet

Squiggle55

Shouldn't I be concerned about the resolution? Other than that, I think this is really awesome. If they market it right it could do very well. Really let people know that it's the cheaper alternative to access the Vita library, and let them know about streaming your ps4 games to other TVs. Packing the VitaTV to go on vacation would be a lot easier than bringing your ps4.

@eLarkos Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is any streaming from your PS Vita going on here. You're basically buying the internals of a new Vita in box form and plugging it into your TV. That's why you're using the dualshock as a controller instead of your Vita. It's nice because it will sell more Vita software and it's also a cheaper alternative to get all of your PS4 games quickly to all of your TVs in the house.

Re: Rumour: PS4 Will Take You to Another Dimension with Oculus Rift-Esque Headset

Squiggle55

Honestly, I was very excited about the Oculus Rift, but, at the end of the day, all I care about is having the best possible VR product on my PS4. If Sony's peripheral matches the Rift in quality, then I don't care if they team up with Oculus or not. That's just the business side of things. All I want is VR on my PS4.

How awesome! I will absolutely buy one on day one.

And what exactly do developers have to do the make their game compatible with these devices? All I care about is the immersion and putting an imax size screen on your face. I don't care about the head tracking as much which I suspect is the developing-heavy part of it. I'd love to see every game compatible with simply using it as your screen.

Re: Gaikai Streaming Is Totally Coming to PS3 and Vita, Too

Squiggle55

That's an interesting thought. I would personally hate to have ALL my gaming be based on an Internet connection. Just like I still prefer the undoubted stability and reliability of a DVD over streaming. I would be very frustrated on a day of spotty service if I couldn't just play what I wanted.

So do you envision this service next year being a one fee for the whole catalog like music unlimited?

Re: Gaikai Streaming Is Totally Coming to PS3 and Vita, Too

Squiggle55

This is cool news. Of course the real question is how timely are they going to add content to the service. Right? I hope for once they try to make an overwhelming, all-encompassing catalog of titles. As opposed to their support of PS1 or PSP for Vita, for example.

Of course I'm also curious about price and all that. Is it included in PS+? Are we buying games individually? In a perfect world they will finally allow us to stream all of our previously downloaded ps3 content to the Vita. And basically making the ps4 backwards compatible with all of our ps3 downloads would be very nice.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on the PS4's Launch Lineup?

Squiggle55

knack and killzone look good, but neither of them are guaranteed day 1 purchases for me or anything like that. I voted for average because there are some good looking games and it's pretty much like any other launch except there's nothing that I absolutely must have. I'll get driveclub with ps+ and I think the most likely purchase would have to be Knack because I love cartoony platformers.

Re: Lucky GameStop Managers Scoop a Free PS4 and Seven Games This November

Squiggle55

Is this a present from Sony or from Gamestop headquarters? Regardless this is only a good thing. It's quite silly how partial most gamestop employees were to Microsoft last generation and it's simply a bad idea as a retail business to have your employees be biased. Saw someone trading in a ps3 yesterday and one new employee didn't even know how to plug it in/turn it on b/c she only owns an xbox.

Re: Music Unlimited Is Not Going to Be Totally Useless on PS4

Squiggle55

@lacerz Thank you! I've been saying that since day 1 of their "radio stations", and I've never heard anyone agree with me. No confirmation from Sony (obviously) and no other customers agreeing with me. It's made me feel crazy. The radio stations based on artists are absolutely horrid. Whatever algorithm they are using is completely useless, and it doesn't factor in your "likes" and "dislikes" at all. Music Unlimited is unbelievably bad at choosing songs for you, which is a very important part of a music service to me, because I want variety but I want the music to actually be good.

If anybody is interested, my suspicion is that Pandora has a patent on the algorithm that chooses music for you based on songs you've liked and disliked, and factors in other users with similar taste and their preferences as well. This is why Music Unlimited, Spotify, and every other service I've tried pales in comparison to Pandora when it comes to choosing music. I'd love to have this confirmed. If this is true and I was Pandora I would be shouting it loud. If it isn't true then Sony needs to fix their radio stations fast because they are a joke. Please choose my music based on the preferences of similar users. Please don't play a song that I've said I disliked. Maybe it would be a good idea to weight the alogorithm to play more popular music first.

Re: Reaction: There's Never Been a Better Time to Buy a PlayStation Vita

Squiggle55

@sanquine @get2sammyb I haven't gotten to the point yet where I haven't bought a game I wanted to buy because I didn't have space. If I really wanted a game and I was out of space I would delete an older game. I have however deleted a few PS+ games. Are you implying that you have held off on actually buying a specific game because of space?

Re: Ueda: The Last Guardian's Still in Production, But Isn't a Priority

Squiggle55

@get2sammyb That's a really good point. I'm just a little surprised that behind closed doors for the last 2 years nobody in charge said "hey, let's prioritize getting The Last Guardian ready for the PS4 launch window. Lots of people are excited for this one and it will make a big news splash." Instead apparently behind closed doors they decided to intentionally shift resources away from The Last Guardian.

Basically if The Last Guardian somehow miraculously releases next summer, then you are right and it was a genius idea to wait and spread out the momentum. But if it doesn't release until 2015 then I am just flabbergasted that they didn't want to actively try and get this game closer to launch.

Re: Ueda: The Last Guardian's Still in Production, But Isn't a Priority

Squiggle55

To take absolutely nothing away from Puppeteer and Knack (they both look like great family friendly games and I'll likely pick up both of them eventually) I can't help but think that focusing on The Last Guardian and making it a PS4 launch title would have made really good business sense and push a few more consoles than Knack will. Don't you think?

Re: Sounds Like Sony May Be Taking the TV, TV, TV Track, Too

Squiggle55

What I really need is for them to announce a deal with disney and then tell me about prices. If we're talking cable prices then we've gained nothing. If they offer me Viacom and Disney (espn) for 20 or 25 bucks a month, then that is amazing. If they offer me lots of bundle options, viacom for 15 dollars, disney for 15 dollars, then that's amazing. I'm really hoping for a shakeup.

Re: Sounds Like Sony May Be Taking the TV, TV, TV Track, Too

Squiggle55

Holy Crap if they're talking about actually broadcasting channels that will be huge. And if they get Disney on board with providing ESPN, it could honestly be a cable killer. This is very exciting, bc cable's stranglehold on content has been mind-boggling for quite some time in this Internet age.

Re: Talking Point: Could PS4 Streaming Impact Native Vita Development?

Squiggle55

I'm interested to see what happens. From a personal perspective, if the PS4/vita remote play works absolutely seamlessly, I couldn't care less if zero more vita exclusive games are developed. Why would I care? I can pay one price and play the game on my TV or anywhere in the world.

If I only owned a Vita, then obviously I would worry and want more games to be made for it. But I think this has to be a very small population. And honestly at the very least I don't see the situation getting worse. I expect to see the same steady flow of indie games and the occasional quality retail game.

But let's say remote play only works well through a direct connection in the home. Then you'd still need to buy games specifically for your Vita if you want to play with your portable system on the go. So it very much depends on the quality of remote play.

The only other talking point I can think of is that remote play games wouldn't have touch screen gimmicks and camera features and tilt mechanics. Of course I don't care a lick about that.

If remote play is totally seamless, then I honestly don't care what happens with Vita development. And honestly I'd probably be disappointed if a game was ever released just on the Vita shop, instead of on the ps4 shop where I could pay once and play it both ways.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy a $500 PS4 and Vita Bundle?

Squiggle55

@legendary-boss I actually pre-ordered and bought my vita to be a companion to my ps3, based on the promise of remote play for PSN games.

I've said before that I think this would be a genius idea at this exact price point, and absolutely annihilate Microsoft. I would upgrade my preorder to this bundle in order to have a second Vita.

Re: Review: PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD (PlayStation Network - Vita)

Squiggle55

@psnstores @get2sammyb Wow, I know it sounds lame to people that don't care about trophies, but I will feel very, very satisfied if they are able to pull that off and add a platinum. Like I've said before, if perfect clearing PJ Monsters, the PSP levels, and the DLC, and beating all of those difficult side challenges isn't deserving of a platinum on PSN, then I don't know what is. It's mind boggling that you get a bronze for that.
