Re: Opinion: Sony Must Manage the Transition to the PS4 Perfectly

@Ginkgo I agree. The only angle that still releasing a blockbuster on ps3 makes sense from is from the 3rd party developer's perspective. I would not fault a 3rd party for making that decision at all. But Sony shouldn't be doing it. And they should still provide incentive to try and get those 3rd parties to reward their early adopters of the ps4 too.

@MadchesterManc Whatever Microsoft did transitioning from the xbox to the 360 seemed to work pretty well for them, didn't it? And in turn they rewarded their most loyal customers, the early adopters, through their successful generation transition. The people that sat on their hands for 6 or 7 years waiting to buy a ps3 do not deserve new games made for them when the next generation is released, and they also don't need new games — they have 6 or 7 years worth of great games to work on. Sony will of course keep making money selling ps3s and old games for a long while now, but they should be spending all of their money on games for the ps4 and advertising for the ps4.

I really don't understand Sony's strategy of generation transitions. Late adopters have nothing to complain about, they know full well that they're late to the party. And they suddenly have years and years of great games to play that are completely new to them. Don't spend a second of your time on the old console, reward the early adopters of the new one. I'd even like to see them go so far as to encourage and provide incentive for 3rd parties to transition as well.

It's funny, as a consumer, I actually don't like Sony's commitment to legacy consoles. I couldn't be more frustrated to see the PSP doing well. And if I buy a PS4 at launch I will want to see the PS3 killed and buried.

It seems like it would be a better business decision too. Sure, make the PS3 cheaper and keep selling it. You'll get purchases from the people out there who have waited 7 years for a $100 PS3. But don't use any of your resources on it. You already have the money of the people that bought PS3. Now you want them to buy the PS4. Make them feel like their PS3 is obsolete. Honestly, who cares if they don't like it. They'll probably grumble all the way to the store and pick up a PS4. Reward early adopters with your attention.

Re: Malicious Swoops North American PlayStation Plus This Week

Squiggle55

I'll be picking up dragon fantasy tonight. I really like day 1 discounts, because even though my backlog is very full, I am reassured by the fact that the first week is cheaper. You see because usually I could say I have too many games to play now, I'll just wait until it goes on sale.

Re: Interview: Dipping into Guacamelee! with Drinkbox Studios

Squiggle55

I will purchase this one quickly too. My backlog is way too big and I could easily wait for a sale or it to show up on ps+. But there are times like this when I want to support devs for making a game like this. The only truly effective way to vote for the types of games you'd like to see made.

Re: Rumour: Sony Planning Second PS4 Unveiling Before E3

Squiggle55

@astroshamu You are absolutely right about that. Fans tried to warn Nintendo. Lots of people tried to tell them it was a horrible idea to name it the Wii U. Wii 2 would have been much wiser. And now I run into many people who think the Wii U is a new controller for their Wii and many more who don't know it exists. These are friends that play video games from time to time and are generally in-the-know, and they had no idea the Wii U exists.

Re: Demon's Souls Damns North American PS Plus Subscribers in April

Squiggle55

Very excited about Demon's Souls. I rented it and didn't even kill a single boss. Now I can devote some time to it.

I'm mildly disappointed that they chose another PSP fighting game because I know I'm only going to spend 5 minutes trying it. I really think fighting games are overrepresented by PS+. IMO it's probably the most niche genre that PS+ regularly gives. And not only that, but we consistently get the nichest games of this niche genre.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Double Down with a PS4 and Vita Bundle?

Squiggle55

@charlesnarles I'm not sure if that's been specifically addressed either. The problem now is how incredibly choppy and laggy remote play is when you try to do it over most wifi connections. So hopefully the plan is to use gaikai technology to make the wifi streaming much smoother. This would clearly be a humongous selling point for the Vita and PS4 if you could literally play your ps4 catalog anywhere with a wifi connection.

Re: Dragon's Crown Reigns on PS3 and Vita This Summer

Squiggle55

I like the art a lot. And I love fantasy themes. What I'll have to hear more about is the actual gameplay and the depth. Need to see reviews addressing whether it gets repetitive and how accurate the fighting mechanics are. The inexact nature of the contact with enemies in sidescroller brawlers like this drives me nuts.

Re: Pachter: Sony Won't Make Money on the PlayStation Vita

Squiggle55

All this talk about 100 games coming to the Vita this year. I hope they aren't including PSM in that figure. If there are really 100 PSN and retail games coming to Vita this year they would be wise to start announcing some of them to keep up some positive momentum.

But if Sony really and truly plays their cards right with remote play I still think the PS4 can be the Vita system seller.

Re: Talking Point: Is Time Gaming's Greatest Handicap?

Squiggle55

My backlog is overwhelming. There are very few games I haven't played at all yet, maybe only 1 or 2. Most of them I have played but haven't yet beaten. Across all formats my backlog is pushing 200 right now. PS+ certainly isn't doing me any favors in that department. I need to bite the bullet and swear off buying new games until I make a dent in the older ones.
