Re: Yooka-Laylee Looks Like Pure PS4 Platforming Goodness

VanillaLake

I see how Playtonic is taking things from the original Donkey Kong Country game to improve the gameplay: Yooka's rolling is like Donkey standing on a rolling barrel, and the mine races are 2D-style like the original ones. The new footage looks honestly better than last time's footage and anyone can see that it's going to be a lot of fun to play. I hope it's a great success, they truly deserve it and I love this kind of games. Moreover, we Rare fans deserve some good old platforming after all this time, don't we? Super Mario 3D World and Ratchet & Clank are going to be a joke compared to Yooka-Laylee, so I hope Yooka-Laylee sales to be extremely high.

EDIT: The title should be: "Yooka-Laylee Looks Like Pure N64 Platforming Goodness".

Re: Final Fantasy XII Remaster Announced for PS4

VanillaLake

Actually...

PushSquare: The remaster is also subtitled The Zodiac Age, implying it may introduce the Zodiac job system and rejigged combat from the Japan exclusive International Edition.

Eurogamer: Excitingly, it seems the Final Fantasy 12 remaster will be taking its cues from the International Edition of the game which never saw release outside of Japan, introducing tweaked combat and a new Zodiac job system.

Re: Final Fantasy XII Remaster Announced for PS4

VanillaLake

@get2sammyb Thanks. The new subtitle probably reflects the fact that the remake (or remaster) is based on the Japanese International version...

@ricklongo You have a point but I guess they want to make the most of their amazing game history, because not always newer is better. Many people didn't have a PS before (like me) and there are those younger players that haven't played anything on PS or PS2.

Re: Talking Point: Will Sony Announce PS4K at E3 2016?

VanillaLake

@Mahe Yes, look at New 3DS, it is not doing as well as Nintendo expected. Mid generation leaps are risky. Will PS4 owners be annoyed about Neo? Sony would say: No, because all PS4 software will run on "old" PS4. Will that software be downgraded and run poorly? Like, you know, choppy frame rates and so?

Microsoft is being a bit wiser by linking the console and PC/Windows market and still offering a console choice, but PS4Neo could put PS4 owners off just like Wii U owners are annoyed with Nintendo, because console gamers don't like expensive consoles with limited support, except geeks, of course.

Re: PS4 Reveals Its Primal Side with Upcoming PS2 Classic

VanillaLake

@Finozzi1696 Yes, I read all your messages. I only hope that they add many more PS2 games to the PS4 store. A lot of people jumped to PS this generation, I'm happy to see remasters of last generation but there are many PS2 games that I want. I even sent an email to Sony before they announced the PS2 classics requesting them (in 2013).

Re: PS4 Reveals Its Primal Side with Upcoming PS2 Classic

VanillaLake

@Utena-mobile You have a point though. At this point, PS3 had lots of classics on the store. On the other hand, classics are taking forever to appear on PS4. I'm not saying that I don't appreciate 1080p upscaling (which is an automatic process, anyway) or trophies implementation, but sometimes I think Sony is being overconfident because of PS4's success and they are not working as hard as they did last generation. Moreover, they made deals with third parties last generation so it cannot be an excuse.

Of course, Nintendo is doing even worse because those are direct ports and I don't think adding a Miiverse community presents any difficulty at all.

EDIT:

This is the list of PS2 classics on the PS3 store. Obviously, PS3 was older when the list was completed, but it still is a good reference to see how many deals they made and how companies were willing to re-release their games for a platform that was less popular than PS4 is:

Re: PS4 Controller Selected Best for PC Gaming

VanillaLake

Honestly, I don't know what they're talking about, I love Xbox One Elite controller's bumpers and triggers. Also, both DS4's touchpad and lightbar are gimmicks even on PS4 games, at least the ones I play. The only advantage of the DS4 over the Elite controller is that the PS4 controller is cheaper. However, DS4 battery life is short and it's not recommend playing with a micro USB cable attached, so...

Re: PS4 Is a Beast! Sales Surpass 40 Million Units

VanillaLake

@bbq_boy I understand. Personally, I haven't played Halo 5 yet because I'm still busy with Master Chief Collection (which I'm liking this far), but many people say that Halo 5 campaign is disappointing, while others say it's like the beginning of something new. I don't know yet, but not everybody is happy with 343 Industries, although Halo 4 was very well received.

By the way, Wii U power brick is huge too!

Re: GameStop's Anticipating New Console Reveals at E3 2016

VanillaLake

@Dodoo " You're probably right.
What is a little worrying about your example is if Sony are first to market a year before MS, then you can bet your bottom dollar that MS will make sure their new Xbox will be more powerful than Sony's.
I hope that doesn't have a knock on effect and make Sony react again as otherwise we may be on yearly updates to our consoles like smartphones!
Why do MS and Sony feel the need to mess with the console cycle that has worked for decades all of a sudden? In fact they used to try their hardest to squeeze 10 years out of each console. They could in fact be the cause of consoles dying out if they keep this up."

I agree with you. I don't like this generation's madness. This could be counter-productive. Anyway, anything can happen now, let's see what E3 brings this year. Hopefully, Microsoft and Sony won't become Apple. Hopefully, consoles won't become smartphones.

Also, as a long-time Nintendo fan, I would much prefer Nintendo becoming third party and developing for Xbox/PC and PlayStation than focusing on mobile rubbish and struggling to keep up with hardware tendencies.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Uncharted 4 Holds on to the Top Spot for Second Week Running

VanillaLake

@Gamer83 @sub12 Don't forget that one of the young Nintendo teams is completely responsible for New Super Mario Bros. 2 rubbish (while the older people were working on New Super Mario Bros. U). I read that on Iwata asks. The whole Nintendo company (old and young) has to reflect on what they are doing with their most beloved and popular franchises (such as Mario, Zelda, or Metroid). And perhaps do something different every now and then and not only platformers: a new Wave Race, F-Zero, a new Metroid Prime instead of Force Federation (what the...?).

Nintendo's efforts are lame lately: Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, Paper Mario Sticker Star, Mario Party 10. I thought Nintendo was working really hard when they stopped developing Wii games around two years before their next console was released, but they have been releasing cheap cash grabbers (like the ones mentioned before) except for a few excellent Wii U and 3DS games.

Star Fox Zero is just a pure mess, a lame 4 1/2 hours (http://howlongtobeat.com/) single campaign where you spend half of the time trying to figure out the controls, without proper multiplayer, without online and little replay value (and all that for €50). I thought after skipping Wii entirely we would get an awesome Star Fox Zero game instead of this:

(thank you @arnoldlayne83 for letting me know about the video and for everything else).

Re: PS4 Is a Beast! Sales Surpass 40 Million Units

VanillaLake

@wiiware I remember lots of articles praising Sony for selling almost 10 millions PS4 units "without games" (don't take it literally). Xbox One early mistakes and Wii U crazy ideas also helped Sony, you have to admit it. Of course, PlayStation brand is hugely popular (they are kings in Europe and Xbox doesn't even exist in Japan). Man, you make it sound like I don't like Sony, when I bought a PS4 6 months after launch! I have Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One.

Re: PS4 Is a Beast! Sales Surpass 40 Million Units

VanillaLake

@xMEADx That's the only reason why PS4 sold tons of units without games. Microsoft made a lot of mistakes: the always online premise, mandatory Kinect 2.0, high launch price... Microsoft corrected all their mistakes and now Xbox One is a great console, but it is a bit too late. The fact that Wii U was a disaster even before it was released also helped Sony. Now with Neo, Xbox 1.5 and NX everything could change though, I'm intrigued about what is going to happen.

Re: We're Still Not Sold on Final Fantasy XV's Battle System

VanillaLake

I completed the demo on both PS4 and Xbox One (quite similar, in between). I didn't like the demo: bad frame rate (all the time), jerky controls (at least controlling the beasts) and bland combat. I really wanted to like it, but I don't. They could fix the game and delay it (...after 10 years).

I don't understand why Square Enix would take Western elements that don't improve the formula at all.
