It looks absolutely gorgeous and like an awful lot of care and attention has gone into making it. The price of a game has never correlated to its length and nor should it.
With the increasing reports of developers and publishers struggling, mass layoffs and declining profit margins, I'm beginning to think that gamers really need to be more pragmatic. Do we want games with extremely polished, state-of-the-art visuals that take eight years and cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make - an extremely risky proposition for any title, but particularly the figures Final Fantasy is expected to sell nowadays. Or, do we want something that is perhaps less visually polished, but made to a more reasonable budget and timeframe that critically won't put employees at risk?
It was pre-installed and is ready to go! I'll play it as soon as I've finished the remaster of the first one. It's one of my favourite games on the Xbox 360 and I'm so thrilled that it got a sequel after so long. Really excited to play it as soon as I can!
Good luck, I guess. But I can't help but feel this person's energy would be better spent fighting what is actually driving the cost of living crisis. It sure ain't video games.
One of my favourite gaming devices! My top five are Persona 4 Golden, Danganronpa V3, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, Final Fantasy X/X-2, and Tales of Hearts R. My backlog is still gigantic, so It’ll be interesting to see if my favourites change at all.
I can’t see Steamworld Dig 2 @get2sammyb. It’s such a brilliant little game.
Not sure why people are concerned about Tomb Raider. Shadow of the Tomb Raider wasn't even made by Crystal Dynamics, was it? The lack of Tomb Raider has nothing to do with Perfect Dark and everything to do with the previous two games underperforming.
Such a wonderful game. The atmosphere is really dark and macabre, and the story is excellent. It's perhaps my favourite Persona story thus far. A remaster that incorporates the feMC additions and battle system of Persona 3 Portable, alongside FES' epilogue, would be brilliant, as there's never been a truly definitive way to play the game.
The $10 upgrade fee for owners of the PS4 Director's Cut is obviously designed to prevent lost revenue from people not buying the PS5 version. The issue is that Sony have not necessarily offered a compelling reason why cross-gen PS5 games should cost more than their PS4 counterparts.
Beyond that, I wouldn't say it's bad value for owners of 2020's original release, as the $30 upgrade includes the Ikishima expansion, along with all the other improvements. Or do people think the DLC should be free?
Not really sure what to say to this. After the PS Store debacle all you can really do is laugh. Logically I can see it being unveiled as a PS Plus title, but logic and PlayStation don't always go hand in hand.
@nessisonett It was alarming when that saucy picture of Jim draped in the flag emerged a few weeks ago.
Already bought and downloaded. 😂 Getting sick of such unfinished games being released and devs/publishers taking our support for granted. Hopefully it will be patched soon, but it's not really acceptable.
Unless they can go the whole hog and give it the sort of high-budget remake it deserves, I really rather hope Chrono Trigger is left alone. The original (and DS port) are sublime and the existing pixel art is absolutely wonderful.
Retrospectives of older titles would make quite interesting reads, perhaps focusing on particular aspects of a game. Gaming moves forward at such a fast pace it would nice to look back on the wonderful titles from PlayStation's history.
I'd love Respawn to make another Star Wars Jedi game. Fallen Order is brilliant. Battlefront II's single player is absolute crap, but I have played various multiplayer modes with a friend a few times and had fun.
Why, pray tell, do they deserve a chance? They deliberately hid the base PS4 and Xbox One version because they knew it wasn't at a reasonable standard, and barely a fortnight ago lied about how well it ran. It wasn't an oversight or something they just happened to forget, it was calculated deception. And the crunch their team had to endure to put the game out (and will continue to endure in order to patch it) certainly suggests a serious failure of management at CDPR.
My console does have minor coil whine, but it is barely audible at normal seating distance, and to hear it fully I had to had to have my ear quite close to the console. For me it’s not really an issue given how low the sound is. It’s also good to know that it’s not a defect and the console isn’t overheated or strained, it’s just normal electromagnetic vibrations. It’s likely that the fans on most devices are loud enough that they mask the sound, whereas the PS5’s fan is very quiet. For some people the coil whine may well be far louder and irritate them.
I'm usually a bit of a wuss, but find that most games that are meant to be scary usually aren't. The scariest thing I've played is probably Resident Evil 4. I was not expecting the chainsaw dude and the fate that befell poor Leon. Sound design in games usually makes a big difference if you wear headphones. The scariest game I've seen be played is P.T., which scared the wits out of me.
The Vita’s store is completely broken. It hasn’t been updated in an extremely long time and many Vita, PSP and PSone Classics games are unlisted and cannot be found there. So, unless they plan to fix things on that storefront then this is actually pretty bad news for the Vita.
Defending GAME is not something I thought I'd be doing, but if it's not retroactive I'm not sure what the issue is, particularly as the consumer is made aware at checkout and the cost is not hidden. Believe it or not, shipping large, heavy items is actually quite expensive. While the cost to GAME is unlikely to be the full £10 I imagine they did the maths and realised posting tens of thousands of PS5s for nothing was going to lose them quite a bit of money. Now charging £5 to post a single game, on the other hand... Perhaps Amazon can absorb shipping costs because they treat their drivers like crap and pay very little tax.
I'm not sure further consolidation of the industry is remotely healthy in the long run, as there will eventually be fewer and fewer big players. Sony will certainly respond in kind with its own acquisitions. I plan on getting a Series X anyway down the line, but has Microsoft considered using its money to build new studios and franchises rather than just buying established ones that release games on their competitor's hardware?
It'll just mean I'm even more selective about what I buy on release day. The rest can wait for sales. Will the strategy of charging more actually benefit Sony? It will inevitably mean people buy fewer games, thus generating less in licensing fees.
@Zuljaras What's with the straw man argument? And what do you mean by not agreeing with trans lifestyles? That makes you transphobic. Few bigots view themselves as being bigoted. And people making anti-trans statements - such as Rowling with her enormous public platform - legitimises hatred and the actions of people who do carry out violence. You do not have to be directly "advocating for violence" for something to be hate speech.
@Zuljaras And how many decades ago was Silence of the Lambs published? Attitudes have changed since then.
You are also entirely missing @nessisonett’s point. Rowling has argued quite vociferously that she believes trans women are “men in dresses” who simply want to sexually assault women in public toilets. Her ignorant views have quite clearly influenced her work.
A cynical person might assume that announcing a digital presentation this far in advance is an attempt to distract from something else.
Three people resigning does not put a nice neat end the issue or absolve the company. It's not business as usual as though everything is okay. Ubisoft's deeply dysfunctional corporate culture not only allowed it to happen in the first place, it protected those involved for years. How is it that people in positions of power get away with this for so long? I think we know the answer. But what is more shocking to me is just how willing so many people are to turn a blind eye to all this because they want to play the next Assassin's Creed or Far Cry.
I actually don’t think Microsoft are removing the paywall at all; it’s simply worth far too much money for them and they are not going to completely eliminate a multi-billion dollar revenue stream - particularly if the Series X itself is sold at a hefty loss. Instead it’s likely Gold will be fully integrated with Games Pass, which is even more expensive and perhaps not the awesome deal it’s made out to be.
As far as paying for PS Plus, I currently have it but it’s not something I necessarily feel beholden to. If I want it in the future then £40 isn’t really going to break the bank. Compared to the horrific online on the PS3 and Vita it is arguably worth it. Xbox Live on the 360 was the Gold standard at the time, and few people complained about paying for it simply because of how much better it was than PSN. The payment premium has perhaps forced Sony to invest in something people find value in paying for.
Twitter disgusts me. This is absolutely horrific and evidently these people are completely thick if they struggle to comprehend that Laura Bailey is not actually the same person as the character she plays.
So many straw man arguments here it actually does my head in. I think everyone knows full well what hate speech entails. It’s not rocket science. This is not censorship. Not even in the slightest. Sony are perfectly entitled to spend their advertising money wherever they please and do not have to pay businesses that don’t align with their values. There’s a phrase for it somewhere. Freedom of... Wait I know I have this. Freedom of spee.. Someone help me out?
Funny how a lot of people seem to think that freedom of speech allows them to say whatever hateful little thing they want without being challenged and without consequences. If I were to exercise my freedom of speech challenging a hateful statement I would be accused of “silencing”. 😂
@Jaz007 Do you have actual examples of it backfiring? Here in the UK (and many other European countries) we have laws against hate speech and unsurprisingly our world has not imploded.
The Vita is still my favourite handheld (well, maybe just behind the original DS) and I use it often. It's gorgeously made, feels like a premium piece of kit, and that d-pad is almost deliriously brilliant. Best d-pad ever, hands down.
That"d be great! I've held off buying the PS3 versions for years in anticipation of PS4 remaster. The story of the first Mass Effect is incredible but I imagine many elements of the gameplay have aged quite poorly.
@Ralizah It'd be great if inventory management could be tightened up. I never understood why Bioware's answer to the crap inventory system was to do away with it entirely in Mass Effect 2.
Definitely and it's a shame that a lot of single player experiences now eschew this. Tight level design almost feels like it's becoming a lost art and not just in open-world games, but the linear paths of FPS and some RPGs. I guess this is partly because of audience desire and the realities of modern development. It takes longer to craft bespoke levels than leverage procedural generation and the reuse of assets to craft a large open world.
