Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5

stinkyx

@K1LLEGAL I'm definitely not a fan boy, in fact I'm mostly a PC gamer, but there's definitely a disparity between MS and Sony in terms of output. Dunno what the deal is with FFXVI's exclusivity, but I know that certain games are exclusive because Sony helps fund them.

Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5

stinkyx

The main problem I have is that, instead of actually MAKING THEIR OWN GAMES, Microsoft is just preventing PS5 gamers from playing the next titles from a popular developer.

Instead of buying studios, MS should, I dunno...actually finish some games instead of cancelling them all the time? Their output has been horrible.

Re: Rain Gameplay in Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Will Make You Wet

stinkyx

@MordmitTotschlag That's rain's "klassic look"! Like many other ninja characters, he started out as a re-color of Sub-Zero and Scorpion (except with different moves of course).

Edit: waitaminute, you're right, it looks like someone just re-colored a Sub-Zero picture, lol. The scar and Lin Kuei emblem are not things Rain would have!

Re: Here Is the First Ever PS5 Game, Hot Off the Press

stinkyx

Good lord, that first picture is off-putting. The game is definitely not the first thing I see, and I don't feel so much "excitement" as "repulsion", lol. Pitchford looks like a bug-eyed fish man bursting from a sewer to take a desperate gulp of air.

Re: Guilty Gear Strive Will Have 15 Characters at Launch, Giovanna Revealed

stinkyx

@GKO900 Hey now, this franchise is one-of-a-kind! And let's not get Super Smash Bros Ultimate mixed-up with real fighting games.

First of all, no other fighting game in history has come close to the amount of characters in SSBU, so it should be the exception, not the rule. Second, all of those characters are just copy-pasted from previous SSB games with the exact same moves and no new mechanics. Next, all of those characters look like garbage up close...compare that to the detail in Guilty Gear Strive. The difference is insane! Lastly, this game was impacted by the quarantine, so I'm sure the devs would've liked to include more characters (and they're not alone...look at MK11's newest character pack having 3 characters instead of 6, Street Fighter V's crazy drawn-out release schedule for its next character season, and Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur 6 rolling out characters at a snail's pace too).

I don't blame anyone for skipping this game initially, given the roster and price point. Personally, I definitely wish there were more characters, or if they released it for $30. But this series has an incredible legacy, and I'll take this over a SSB game with 1000+ characters (still waiting for them to add Boo or Toad, dang it!!!), and that's why someone like me would foolishly drop $85 on Guilty Gear Strive at launch, lol. I can't wait!!!

Re: Seeing The Last of Us 2 at 4K, 60FPS Makes Us Pray for a PS5 Upgrade

stinkyx

@nessisonett This game JUST came out, so asking people to buy it twice in the same year is ridiculous, IMHO!

If anything, they should make the PS5 upgrade free, and then bank on the good-will earned from players makes them compelled to spend $$$ in the Factions mode (that they still haven't revealed yet, darn it!!!).

Re: Kunimitsu Unmasked and Confirmed for Tekken 7 Alongside Season 4 Update Details

stinkyx

@Flaming_Kaiser After you beat the campaign (which has a complete garbage final battle, IMHO, super hard except on Easy mode), there are a bunch of short "episode" chapters for each character, but they're like 2-3 fights I seem to remember, and the "story" for them is like a single incident, like two characters having a dance-off, for example.

Also, I vote Mortal Kombat 11 for fighting game of this generation

Re: Rumour: Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster Now Planned for Early 2021

stinkyx

@ShogunRok I just hope they don't change it too much! Stuff like the weapons with infinite ammo (and how it was explained in the lore) was really cool, IMHO. And I personally really liked the elevator rides, since it kept the immersion level high. The Mako sections were rough, but really helped create a sense of scale on the different planets that you don't get from just running around.

Re: Did SEGA Just Tease a New Virtua Fighter Game?

stinkyx

@AdamNovice Yeah, SRK has been dead for a while, with nothing but paid reviews for peripherals most once a month at most. Dunno who runs the site, but I don't see how it would take more than half an hour to write a quick blurb and dump and image in there just to keep up with FGC news, which is usually sparse to begin with.

Aside from Eventhubs, it also seems like PushSquare does an insanely good job of jumping on all the latest FGC news too! There's been plenty of times they'll beat Eventhubs to the punch with breaking news, so...keep it up guys!

Re: Final Fantasy XVI Announced, PS5 Console Exclusive, Gameplay Trailer

stinkyx

@themcnoisy To be fair, a good part of many RPGs is just "smash X to battle." When you're grinding to level up, you just go out and kill weak mobs by mashing X. When you're playing normally, outside of bosses, you're not doing much better...you navigate through a menu to your strongest spell and press X. Not much strategy either way until you reach a boss. Even in late-game for many of the FF games I played, I remember that my strategy for every boss was just cast reflect and hover and haste on my party and then spam the biggest spells, lol.

That's why I think it's unfair to single-out FF13, just because they simplified it (but then added complexity by introducing the paradigm system where you have to react and smartly counter your enemies).

Re: Final Fantasy XVI Announced, PS5 Console Exclusive, Gameplay Trailer

stinkyx

@rachetmarvel Hey mon, dem's fightan words! Lol. I personally really liked the story of FF13, although I woulda been lost if not for the codex explaining everything. The message about fighting against fate really helped me get back on my feet at that time (the 2008-2011 recession) so that game is very dear to me. I even played some tracks from OST at the reception part of my wedding, lol. Even with the story aside, I absolutely looooved the gameplay and music for all 3 of the entries, so it was the total package for me.

That's all, just wanted to gush about the FFXIII series!

Re: Poll: How Much Are You Willing to Pay for PS5?

stinkyx

I bought my first PS4 at launch, and the second one a year later that was $50 less and included 2 games (both ports: GTA and TLOU1, but still) soooo....I'm gonna wait until this thing actually has games I reeeally wanna play.

Current PS5 launch line-up is nice, but not my bag baby! :B

Re: BioWare Gives a Tiny Glimpse of Dragon Age 4

stinkyx

I didn't come close to finishing Dragon Age Inquisition (haven't completed a single RPG since I've been married), so this gives me a bit of time to catch up, lol.

Also, since I didn't play DAI, can someone tell me if those are NEW voice lines being recorded, or if they just used old footage of DAI's development for this trailer?

Re: Play Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Beta First on PS4

stinkyx

I don't get exclusives like this. All it does it just piss off the other console owners (remember when it was the other way around?). It's not like someone with an Xbox or PC is gonna say, "Gee, this convinced me to buy a PS4 so I can play this game 2 weeks early!"

Sure, Sony gets a bump out of it, but in the end, there's no reason everyone can't all play at the same time. We're all on the same side, all of us gamers, regardless of platform. This anti-consumer stuff is dumb. At least there's crossplay in COD, so gamers can all play together, any way they want.

Re: Best PS4 Fighting Games

stinkyx

It's all subjective in the end, but Granblue is the only one I'd extremely disagree with. It's not even "beginner-friendly", IMHO. I'd say that DOA5/6, MK11, and Guilty Gear Xrd are the most beginner-friendly due to the robust tutorial modes. THAT is what's important to beginners, having an avenue to understand how fighting games work, and not just limiting the game design so that there's a lack of complexity and variety. Idk, that's the only game I refunded on this list, lol. Limited roster, weird netcode issues for me.

Really wanted to like it, but just didn't end up enjoying it at all. I'll probably give it another shot when it's on super sale ($10?).

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Dated for 13th November, PS5 Upgrade Costs More

stinkyx

Just pre-ordered it, lol. I love that they made a sequel to Black Ops 1 instead of rebooting the game...always fun to add to the lore and past experiences instead of re-writing them. Also love that they're setting part of it in the 80s.

The only disappointment will be that it probably won't have dolphin diving in it, since I heard the Warzone component will be crossplay with MW's Warzone. I miss diving through glass windows for either a hilarious death or badass kill!

Re: PS Plus September 2020 PS4 Games Announced

stinkyx

@The_ghostmen Before playing Street Fighter V, I recommend you go watch the first episode of the YouTube series "Think! Don't Mash." It's really short, but it really helped me ease into fighting games and help me understand them (more like a real-time chess match instead of a furious button-mashing contest of who can do the most special moves and combos). It's a great genre to get into, IMHO. Anyway, have fun!

Re: PS Plus September 2020 PS4 Games Announced

stinkyx

@Porkfiend I'll agree about PUGB, but Tekken and SFV couldn't be more different! The difference between 2D and 3D fighting games is huge, IMHO, like comparing a side-scrolling shooter to a first person shooter. Take a look at he movelists for the characters, for example...the inputs and sheer number of moves is crazy different!

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Announced, Full Reveal Next Week

stinkyx

@Juanalf Yeah, if you consider that a company will easily spend millions of dollars on a Super Bowl ad, why wouldn't they "donate" tons of money to politicians to get certain laws passed? I've seen it myself, on a much smaller scale, when a huge local brewery (with national distribution) somehow got our local City Council to block a project I was working on for no apparent reason, effectively destroying a businesses and wasting a bunch of money for the current owner. Turns out, the brewery wanted to buy the land for a new facility, and eventually did.

The salary of our elected officials is NOTHING compared to what big companies can throw at them.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Announced, Full Reveal Next Week

stinkyx

@Orange_Man_Bad Like I said, I'm basing my facts over what I see IRL. I know people in Portland and California who have been involved in a number of peaceful protests, including some big ones. There's all that stuff at the Portland Federal Courthouse, but that's it's own thing. Likewise, I know people in Chicago who have seen firsthand convoys of vehicles looting an entire block of high-end stores downtown, but that's just straight-up looting in a highly-coordinated attack, with no actual protesting involved whatsoever.

Also, I hear your excuse for the USA's mishandling of COVID-19 all the time...other countries all over the world did a bad job, so it's okay if we did too. All that shows to me is that there are idiots all over the world who are actually MORE stupid than the people in 1918, despite all of our medical and technological advances (and benefit hindsight).

Anyway, it's a crazy time, no matter how you look at it, and Trump has done a horrible job of calming people down or making the situation better. Just look at George Floyd's death at the center of all of the civil unrest: Trump has said little, and done less. And he has a direct line of contact with the people of the US via Twitter, without any filter from the media.

Uh...in other news, I'mma get the new BLACK OPS day one

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Announced, Full Reveal Next Week

stinkyx

@Orange_Man_Bad Are you talking about the peaceful protests? Yeah, those are still on-going. Of course, there's stil incidents of mobs breaking into stores and stealing literally everything, but that's completely different. I know a few people IRL in places like Portland that have attended numerous protests that were just people standing around for hours without incident.

As for Trump, and relating back to this Black Ops article, his handling of the pandemic pretty much sums it up. The mistakes people made in the 1918 flu were repeated in 2020, thanks in part to Trump dismissing the consensus of the WORLD-WIDE scientific community and repeatedly issuing his own opinion of how to handle the virus...which was often the exact opposite of warnings from the CDC and consultants like Anthony Fauci. People need to "know your history" (- Black Ops) and then learn from it.

Another lesson to learn from history: rich people aren't your friends, and neither are politicians. I can see you're all-in on Trump based on your username, but really tho...that dude is not your friend.

Re: What's the Latest on the Rumoured Silent Hill PS5 Project?

stinkyx

@playstation1995 Me too, man...gotta have the weapons! That's why I never really liked Outlast, P.T., or Silent Hill Shattered Memories.

Anyway, I think the third person view really helps in survival horror games regardless if there are weapons or not, because often times you have to dodge or weave through a group of enemies (if only to save ammo) and that's a lot harder to do in first person.

Re: What's the Latest on the Rumoured Silent Hill PS5 Project?

stinkyx

@playstation1995 I'm guessing they were gonna go 3rd person with Silent Hills, since why use Normal Reedus's likeness if you never see him? But with the success of P.T., I wouldn't be surprised if they switched gears to first person.

Personally, I'm open to either. The main thing that matters to me is that the game has a strong theme like the originals did, in terms of the game director having an overarching artistic vision and wanting to convey something about the human pathos (even the American-made games did this to a degree, IMHO). So long as it's not a focus-group and fan-service driven game made to appeal to as many people as possible, I'll be happy!

Re: EA Sports UFC 4 - A Strong Sequel That Knows What Players Want

stinkyx

Hmmm, the customization sounds fun, but the main thing I've wanted to do in these games ever since the first one in 2014 is import my face and my friends' faces into the game (via GameFace) and fight each other. This has NEVER worked...EVER, in UFC1 or UFC3, in 3 different places of residence and using 3 different computers and 4 different phones to upload face data, and wasting dozens of hours. Always had to resort to the manual customization, which never looked anything like any of us. Sounds like they dropped it altogether here, which is weeeeeak. Booooo!

Re: Epic Games Makes Fortnite V-Bucks 20% Cheaper

stinkyx

@playstation_king Dude...it's $15 to $20 for a decent skin in this game. There are $10 skins (now $8) but they're usually just generic trash. Then there are emotes/dances that are $5 to $8, and weapons and other cosmetics follow that same price. The only thing worth $8 is the Battle Pass, IMHO.

Re: Capcom Suggests Lacking Resident Evil 3 Sales Aren't All That Surprising

stinkyx

@Jayofmaya I think the dev team said they wanted to make the Nemesis encounters all scripted because they thought it was scarier than just a slow dude following you the entire game. I see where they were coming from, since Mr. X ended up being more annoying than scary, but ultimately they probably should've done a combination of both, IMHO. The fact you have unlimited saves (at least in the default difficulties) and cool-but-overpowered dodge roll doesn't help with the tension either.

Re: Capcom Suggests Lacking Resident Evil 3 Sales Aren't All That Surprising

stinkyx

@Royalblues Dude, if they remake CV (which I've never played, btw), they better not re-design Claire again, like they've been doing with Chris (although the VIllage one looks closer to RE5/RER1/RE6 than RE7's does). They should make the current faces canon and stop messing with them, lol.

CV sold less than RE3 originally, so by Capcom's logic, the remake would also sell less. Given how many new assets they'd have to make (I don't think they can reuse stuff like RE2 to RE3's remakes), it seems like an RE4 remake is more likely, from a financial risk perspective. Given the low sales of RE3 and the pandemic, I feel like they'd chase the money moreso than the fanservice right now. Personally, I just hope they keep the remakes coming!

Re: Capcom Suggests Lacking Resident Evil 3 Sales Aren't All That Surprising

stinkyx

@nessisonett I dunno...a lot of games are just 5 hours games dressed-up with filler. For me, it took over 8 hours to beat the campaign on the normal difficulty without finding everything, so it's the same as RE2 (but without the replay value of a remixed second story). Also, the multiplayer Resistance mode was complete trash at launch, but I think it's a LOT better now. I'm currently playing that and have a good 10+ hours into it. Overall, I paid $45 for it at launch and think it was worth it, from an RE fan's perspective anyway.

Of course, the biggest warning is definitely comes if you've played the original, which I did right before playing this. Personally, I think the original RE3 is INSANELY good, and it's true that the remake took out several iconic locations, enemies, and bosses. I tried to look past this, but it really ended up bothering me.

Re: Reaction: The Spotlight Is Now on PS5's Launch Lineup

stinkyx

@Sinton The good thing about owning a new console right off the bat is that you get a clean-slate for your backlog! The first year of the PS4's lifecycle, I actually thought I could beat AND platinum all of the major AAA releases. That didn't last long...

Re: Rumour: Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster Can Be Pre-Ordered on PS4 at UK Retailer, with September Release Date

stinkyx

@nessisonett Haven't played ME1 in a while, but I don't remember Ashley being all that racist. I mean, all the other alien races looked down on humanity (since they were the new guy), especially the Citadel Council, and so humans still had a lot to prove. I wouldn't have called it racism so much as a reaction to being marginalized. If anything, I think Cerberus is much more deserving of the label "racist" than Ashley...
