Re: Grab a PlayStation Now Subscription with This 25% Discount

stinkyx

I wish I could stream all the games I already own digitally...but unfortunately that's not what this is! It would also be cool if the Vita was still supported. Anyway...I think it's time to get this!

Also, PSA : a few months ago, Sony let everyone have another 7-day PS Now trial if they already used it (which I had, years ago lol), so give that a shot if you're not sure about performance! And it seems like it won't let me buy the $45 deal while the trial is active, so...make sure your trial ends before the deal ends, lol.

Also note that if you're planning on using this on PC and are NOT using a Dualshock 4 controller, there's absolutely NO way to emulate the touchpad, so certain games are unplayable (i.e. I can configure my gun in Control, therefore I can't get past the beginning of the game).

Re: Resident Evil Resistance Content Roadmap Reveals Very, Very Little

stinkyx

@GoblinKing86 In multiplayer, the loop of repetition is meant for learning maps, trying different strategies, and generally getting better at the game. The limited set of variables (maps, weapons, movement, etc) makes it more like a "game" in the traditional sense of a game of chess or a game of football. Most importantly, once you reach a certain level of understanding and competency of a given multiplayer game, it changes the whole experience into something amazing.

Play a map enough times and you'll be playing mind games with the other team, predicting where they'll go, setting ambushes, and counter-picking their loadouts. What was running in a circle getting shot in the back is now a tense game of seek and destroy. In fighting games, random button mashing turns into an elaborate dance of setups and baiting, punishes and careful management of space and pressure. It takes work to get to this level of understanding, but it's sooo rewarding.

Give multiplayer games another try! Even playing solo, find a game that looks interesting and has gameplay you like, and then stick with it. Lookup tip videos and practice offline. Focus on learning for each match instead of winning. Even if you just do this a little bit, it could really open a whole new world for you!

Re: Resident Evil Resistance Content Roadmap Reveals Very, Very Little

stinkyx

Seems like they're testing the waters before they go ham with a battle pass or something. I ironically haven't had much free time these last several weeks, so I've been dying to spend more time with this mode.

Hoping they pile on the characters, both brand new and classic (I still really, really wanna see a current-gen take on Barry).

Re: Soapbox: I Wish I Was Growing Up with Games Now

stinkyx

Nice article! I definitely only amassed 3 to 5 new games per year growing up, so I had to choose carefully. Some other ways to play games included borrowing from friends, rentals, and arcades. I'm at least happy that the "second level syndrome" from games is gone (making the second or third level in a game godawful hard so you couldn't beat the game over a rental cycle).

Today, games as a service is the biggest difference, with games designed to drip-feed rewards and create habits around daily logins and grinding. I've definitely got caught up in more than a few of those in recent times, and I always come away feeling icky after just wasting a couple months on a "free" game, usually never having gotten those skins I was grinding for all that time. I'd say this is probably worse!

Re: Guide: Best Resident Evil Games Ranked

stinkyx

@DualWielding I really liked that one too, except it didn't have any dismemberment (goodbye, shotgun headshots!)! Admittedly, I only played the 3DS version (bought the system just to play it, lol), so I dunno if they ever added it to the remasters (which I have but never replayed).

Re: Resident Evil 3 - Competent Remake Feels Like a Misfire

stinkyx

Does the Playstation Store let you get refunds? I remember customer service being super strict about NOT letting me refund pre-ordered games, which is insane because not only do I not have the game yet, but every single other storefront lets me refund pre-orders. Haven't made a pre-order in 2 years on there as a result! Anyone know if things have changed?

On another note, I've got this one locked-in and can't effin' wait to play it. I kinda like that it's not a 7/10, since I find that having lowered expectations makes me like games a lot more than I reasonably should (Mass Effect Andromeda, Left Alive, Homefront Revolution, etc), lol. The missing game sections are a huge bummer, but nothing else is innately bad, IMHO.

Re: PS5 Cosmic Horror Quantum Error Targeting 4K, 60FPS with 'Beautiful' Raytracing

stinkyx

@Juanalf Considering that 1080p, 60 FPS wasn't a standard thing this last generation, I wouldn't be surprised to see lots of sub-4K 30 FPS games. I bet developers will still think it's okay to release stuff that runs at 24-28 FPS too.

Developers don't understand that resolution and framerate are just as important (if not more important) than having crazy shaders and complex geometry. You could have the most realistic looking models ever, but if it runs like trash then it's going to look like trash!

Re: Rumour: Silent Hills to Return on PS5 Alongside Separate Series Reboot

stinkyx

Just wanna recommend people play Silent Hill 5 and Silent Hill Downpour if you haven’t already! I was prepared to hate both of those games (I even gave 5 a 0/10 written user review BEFORE I had even played it, I was so mad about Team Silent not developing it), but ended up loving both. The semi-open world of Downpour is the biggest plus, if you can stomach the low framerate.

Re: Rumour: Silent Hills to Return on PS5 Alongside Separate Series Reboot

stinkyx

@Ps4_all_the_way Do it! I think you might wanna check out 2 as your first game also, since they’re completely separate stories (just don’t play 3 first, since that’s a direct sequel to 1). Aside from graphics, they all play the same. My only warning with the first one is that it’s easy to get the worst ending, which I won’t spoil, but it made me feel like I wasted my time when I got it. So If you go that route, you may wanna ask someone here for a hint on what to do at a couple different parts.

Great series, regardless!!!

Re: Hands On: Final Fantasy VII Remake's Modern Combat Thrills, But Level Design Feels Stuck in the Past

stinkyx

Staggering enemies, switching styles, and pausing combat to nail a specific target makes it feel like an evolution of Lighting Returns and I love it! Plus, just knowing that FF13 haters get a huge injection of FF13 mechanics into their precious FF7 is sooo satisfying for me, haha.

I had to stop playing it early ‘cuz I wanted to preserve the freshness of the full game. I’m super excited!

Re: PlayStation Store Essential Picks Sale Discounts Some of PS4's Best Games in the US

stinkyx

I have 90+ games on my wishlist and they’re almost NEVER on sale. It’s always the same games over and over and over again. You’d think everyone would own these games by now if they really wanted them. Jedi Fallen Order has been constantly on sale since it came out, for example.

And that’s not to mention the poor Vita games on my wishlist...they system’s dead, let us at least have some discounts in the wake of no new games!!!

Re: ANTHEM Still Has Christmas Decorations as BioWare Remains Silent on Future Plans

stinkyx

@Splat I gave Mass Effect Andromeda a second chance and it’s actually really good, IMHO. What’s really helped me enjoy sci-fi games and movies in general more is to just ignore plot holes. The first scene in Mass Effect Andromeda, for example, where they are in a drop ship just standing in the hold without any seatbelts and with a bunch of loose cargo everywhere...that used to bug me SOOOO much but now it’s just a funny thing that happens.

...ugh, look what BioWare has done to me!!

Re: Latest Resident Evil 8 Leak Sounds a Little Bit Too Ridiculous

stinkyx

I think a castle is an amazing setting for a horror game, so I’m stoked. They could even do something with time-travel, which could also be terrifying. All I know is that the RE7 team worked backwards from several core concepts of creating fear in the player, so I’m excited to see what they’ll do for this one.

We can always have more remakes. RE8 needs to do something new!

Re: Apex Legends Season Four Blows Up the World's Edge Map

stinkyx

@TheInfantFinite LOL, yeah it’s crazy how tryhard and angry people can be in online shooters. It’s why I stopped playing Apex Legends (getting cussed at by random idiots), among countless other online shooters. Been thinking about jumping into Apex’s latest season with some IRL friends but they’re expecting me to bring my A-game at all times. Think I’ll just stick to solo Fortnite, which is as chill or competitive as I want it to be.

Re: Apex Legends Season 4 Starts 4th February, New Legend, Battle Pass, and Weapon

stinkyx

Gah, I don’t know what it is, but this game consistently has the ugliest looking characters I’ve ever seen, IMHO, which always surprises me because Respawn did a great job with TITANFALL. That’s not even counting all of the trashy looking skins on top of that.

Anyway, giving this game another go. It’s no Fortnite or MW, but everyone’s playing it!

Re: Fortnite's TikTok Emote Contest Is the Most 2020 Thing Ever

stinkyx

@BarefootBowser I wish more games had skill-based skins, so it would be less like “mommy gave me $15 for this skin” and more like “I got 10 victory Royales to earn these duds!” But of course, money rules all...

(To be fair, Fortnite actually has a lot of skill-based skins in the Battle Pass. But still...$15 for the nice premium ones is way too much)

Re: Atelier Dusk Trilogy Deluxe Pack - New Year, Same Old Alchemists

stinkyx

@belmont The story isn’t wrapped up by the third game?? Without spoiling anything, is it like a cliffhanger ending, or does is just leave a bunch of loose ends? The latter I can deal with, but an unresolved cliffhanger ending on an RPG would be bad news. I’ve only gotten to the halfway point in Ayesha and always planned on going through the whole trilogy!

Re: Gallery: Latest Resident Evil 3 PS4 Screenshots Are a Sight to Behold

stinkyx

@RenanKJ I feel like the first person perspective of RE7 lets them do a lot of scary stuff that’s just not the same in third person, so I’m hoping RE8 will continue that. As much as I like these third-person remakes, I love the fact that Resident Evil as a series isn’t afraid to try new things. The only thing I hope stays the same is classic character cameos...do I smell BARRY?

Re: PS Vita Remains a Viable Platform in 2020

stinkyx

Using it these past few days to play Resident Evil 3 (never got very far when I had it back in the PS1 days). I use this thing on and off (it’s the only current console to run PS1 games, for example), mostly to practice TEKKEN on the go. I prefer taking it with me on trips as opposed to the Switch too, mostly because it’s not as big and seems less fragile, lol.

Also, if WiFi wasn’t trash in my house (despite my best efforts) I’d be using it for remote play on the daily!

Speaking of remote play, HORI makes an insanely good attachment that turns the stupid touch pad into L2/R2 triggers, and it’s far and away the best attachment you ABSOLUTELY NEED to get for remote play, IMHO.

Re: Resident Evil 3 Ditches Mercenaries Mode, Choice Events, and Extra Endings

stinkyx

Maybe they plan to integrate the “choice” parts directly into the gameplay? Like scripted scenes that change based on how the player acts, instead of presenting an explicit decision?

I just hope there’s a way to dodge the Nemesis or an item to have him drop you (like the knives in RE1 Remake)...my least favorite part about the original was how he could sometimes kill you from full health (pick you up, throw you, pick you up before you can get up and throw you again, repeat until you die).

Re: Rumour: PS5 Will Run PSone, PS2, PS3, and PS4 Games

stinkyx

I hope consoles end up like PCs. Nothing like having your entire library all in one place, and NOT having to re-buy old games. Even better if they had an up scaling feature for improved performance! The next Xbox seems to be leaning toward just that, so hopefully the PS5 can follow suit.

Re: PS Plus January 2020 PS4 Games Announced

stinkyx

@funkyflounder83 Don’t forget that Games Pass is $5 on PC (instead of $15 on Xbox) and has new games added every week, not to mention all the new first party releases. Talk about value!

For me, however, all these free games and games as services haven’t changed my buying habits at all. I just want a good game, and I’m happy to buy it for the right price! Sony has been carrying the torch of constantly creating unique, meaningful experiences and new IPs, so I think that’s what’s important above anything else, free games be damned!

Re: PS Plus January 2020 PS4 Games Announced

stinkyx

TBH, I have NEVER played any of the games given out by PS Plus in the past five years. I’ve either already had them, or never really wanted to play them in the first place (case in point: this month). The biggest perk to me is the discounts and bonus $5 off for all UFC fights (before ESPN took that all away)!

Re: PS5 Specs Leak Sends the Web into a Frenzy

stinkyx

This last generation showed us that no matter how much horsepower you give developers, they’ll still occasionally crank out unoptimized garbage that can’t even maintain a steady 30 FPS at 1080p!

And I’d like to say that graphics and power don’t matter, but I know full well from the PS3 days (those horrible ports!) and from PC gaming that when a game runs and looks better, it’s a whole different experience!

Re: Feature: The PS4 Games You Already Forgot Were Released in 2019

stinkyx

Left Alive is at the top of my wishlist! The PC version, in particular, which I’ve played, since it has an exclusive crobar that you start out with, which i find absolutely hilarious to hit people with from behind. From what I played, it was more fun than my brief experience with MGS5, honestly.

Re: Guide: Best Resident Evil Games Ranked

stinkyx

Resident Evil 6 is a great game if you can get the controls down, IMHO, and playing co-op with a buddy. Roundhouse kicking your friend in the back of the head so they go flying into a group of zombies is what it’s all about!

Re: Game of the Decade: Fortnite Became the Biggest Video Game in the World

stinkyx

I’ve always hated Fortnite, but this past few months it finally clicked. It’s actually a super solid game, namely since the Season 11 update, and the building mechanics make for some memorable battles that never would’ve occurred in any other game. I feel like the people here (you!!) should give it another shot, and make sure you learn to at least build a little before writing it off. It makes for a unique experience in a sea of same-y games, IMHO. Also, the online community seems nicer than other games (i.e. Apex Legends, where I refuse to play with randoms), with the scummier folks being adults, lol.

This uniqueness is also why I’d put LawBreakers (R.I.P.) up there as one of the best shooters this generation, with the zero gravity stuff. More fun than Overwatch, IMHO! Had the best soundtrack of the decade too, IMHO
