@shonenjump86 I dunno if they have enough money for those sequels! They were already in the hole with KoFXIV, and I'm not sure how much SNK Heroines and Samurai Shodown helped the situation.
They didn't even release Gals Fighters until last month, which is weird because it's a simple Neo Geo Pocket port that was supposed to be a pre-order bonus for the Switch version released last October. That's not even to mention that the PC version of Samurai Shodown doesn't even have a release date yet, which leads me to believe they're on a skeleton crew, even before the pandemic.
I'm guessing they're going to put all of their console eggs in one basket: King of Fighters XV, and then chase the mobile market for more funding.
I didn't like the "real" box art at first, until I understood that "revenge" was the key word for the sequel. The "From the Beginning" trailer showing Ellie morphing from a child to an adult and getting more and more angry is what finally sold me on it.
Check it out if you haven't! I almost guarantee it'll make you like the angry-face box art
@d0x360 Lol, the beginning of 4 with those DeeBee robots in the settlement seemed to take forever. I only got as far as the "At The Doorstep" level before giving up (solo, hardest difficulty) and starting over, dialing it the difficulty way down to normal so I can just enjoy the story. Still need to finish! I heard the story payoff in Gears 5 makes it worth it.
@d0x360 I never played Gears 5 aside from the multiplayer beta...I really wanna play that game as a whole, but need to beat 4 first, lol (since I enjoy the story). I'd say you're right about the refinement, in that Gears requires the most deliberate cover-to-cover movement of all third-person shooters in order to proceed. However, the rest of the genre just "feels" so different to play that Gears is really it's own sub-genre of third-person-shooters, and I guess I tend to like the Uncharted variety better (jumping, easier movement, standard shooter controls, etc). Not a bad thing either way, just a preference, I guess!
Dang, I was hoping for another BLOPS game that focused on the operator characters in the campaign, since they don't have any real story aside from their bios!
Also, I thought the gadgets in BLOPS4 were a good mix-up from the "boots-on-the-ground" gameplay of WW2 (and MW for that matter) so I hope that facet of creativity doesn't go away. For "realism" they could pass these gadgets off as government experiments...?
@eumenes I've tried to like it soooo many times, but yeah...Gears isn't that great of a series, IMHO. I think the production values, world and character design are top-notch (minus the Ugg boots everyone wears, lol), but the gameplay hasn't evolved much since the original. That means clunky movement, bullet sponge enemies and guns lacking impact (feeling and sounding like a sputtering hose or party-popper). I don't think PS players are missing out on a whole lot...
@GoblinKing86 The only times I've played Gears are on PC, haha, including the original over a decade ago!
I guess when I say "exclusive" I really mean "console exclusive" or "brand exclusive," like you're saying. I think of Gears as irrevocably an Xbox-associated product, and having it appear on a PlayStation would be just as shocking as when Crash Bandicoot got kicked to the curb, only to resurface on Xbox and Wii too!
If it weren't for how terrible UE3 games in general ran on PS3, this might've seen the light of day! It would've been shocking to see Gears go multi-platform, kinda like how shocking it was to see Insomniac develop Xbox games!
I think they missed the window to fix this game. There are some clear things that needed an overhaul right from the start, and they should've fixed those right away instead of waiting. The guns being way too similar / uninteresting loot, bullet sponge enemies, lack of live events, etc.
At this point, they'll need to make Anthem into an entirely new game to get people interested again, and everyone agrees that's not a good use of time or money!
@ArmyofOne Yeah, if another $100 more could net you a PS5, and said system is backwards compatible, then you may as well wait! This item is probably aimed at collectors anyway, not so much people like me who are looking to replace the ol' gal PS4 who sounds like a lawnmower at this point in her life.
@AdamNovice It's kinda true...as a PC gamer, you can get so distracted by stuff like the framerate dropping slightly during one cutscene that you stop playing for half-an-hour while you reconfigure all of your settings, update drivers, and read forums, lol. It's why my PC-only buddy has been 100% console this generation, and why I was like that up until recently (I draw the line at games dipping below 30 FPS...that's something that should be behind us, quite honestly).
@Nepp67 Lol, you shoulda posted that to begin with! I mostly remember reading a few initial reports that said the exact opposite, so that's where I was coming from.
For me, I was definitely hoping I could bring my backlog over to PS5 and ditch my loud-ass PS4, lol.
@Spyroescape That's the biggest disappointment for me this last generation...most games couldn't live up to the promise of 1080p, 60 FPS! I expect this next gen will follow suit, since it seems that no matter how much horsepower you give devs, they're gonna somehow fail to work within their means. One can hope otherwise, tho!
It'd be nice to play these games at higher resolutions and framerates on PC!
It would also be nice if you didn't have to re-buy all of your games on PS5 to play them in higher resolutions and framerates. That's the one thing PC (and Xbox One) always has over PS4: whenever you get new hardware, you get to re-discover all of your old games with upgraded graphics without the agony of re-buying everything!
No one replied? You mean those are real people on your staff, and not different characters and personalities you made up??
Er, well...I’m practicing my Mortal Kombat 11 skills for competition at EVO 2020, since it seems anyone can enter from the comfort of their own home! And I’m grinding out the battle pass in Modern Warfare so I can get those tier 90 Mara skins before time runs out. Me-YOW!
@KidBoruto The refund policy says that you can’t ask for a refund once you launch the game. What I was getting at is that PSN should change to let you refund once you’ve played the game, so long as you don’t play for more than two hours. That’s the standard on PC, and Xbox too I think. Dunno about you, but I’ve definitely been in the situation where I’ve researched a particular game and then bought it, only to be put off right away and need a refund. Reasons as simple as wonky controls, a worse framerate than expected, or discovering the playerbase is dead for a multiplayer game.
Aaauugh! This looks fun, but then I remember that I uninstalled this game because of the Resistance mode seeming so unfair! I don't like how much your character level makes a difference in this mode, and that you have to grind out each character and mastermind for a dozen hours before they become competent.
I guess I'm spoiled from Dead By Daylight where an underleveled character with no unlocked abilites still has a good chance of winning single-handedly without their team if you play skillfully. Here, if your entire team can't deal with the mastermind spawning waves and waves of lickers right from the second the match starts, you're never gonna come close to winning!
Saw a lot of negative feedback from the fighting game community too (not ALL bad, but quite a bit), so I wouldn't be surprised even if we weren't in a pandemic. I personally like the new meter system that punishes players who play too defensively because it forces me to switch-up my playstyle and be more aggressive, so hopefully that doesn't change!
@glassmusic I think Apex Legends did a good job pushing the battle royale genre forward ! Just wish they woulda made it more Titanfall-y...especially with those frankly UGLY characters, lol.
I wasn't around for it, but I heard that Fortnite had mechs at one point and it unbalanced the game like crazy, but...I think Apex should still give the idea a go. Something like a three-person beta-titan with someone driving and the others operating the weapons?
Dude, I hope there's a nicely priced PS4 Pro console bundle to coincide with the release! Can't play this with that airplane engine noise in the background, lol.
EDIT: I see they're still $500 all these years later?! Is than pandemic pricing? Geez, I'll just get a PS5 then!
I've watched this so many times, haha! I'm unbelievably stoked for this!
The only thing this game needs now is a better soundtrack...if only the music in the game was more like what's in the last two trailers, it'd be the komplete package.
It's probably too early to ask for another Tomb Raider game, and I think it would be wise for them to "wait and see" with Cyberpunk 2077 before throwing Deus Ex out there again.
When it comes to my personal wishlist, another Final Fantasy Tactics-esque game sounds amazing, especially if they incorporated elements from the recent boom of turn-based games to make something unique. I'm thinking a budget $40 release, to not take away from other projects?
@Feena If you think about it...they could've been working on FF16 since 2009 after FFXIII, at least from a conceptual standpoint. That's the way I've always seen it. There hasn't technically been a "real" mainline game since then...it's all been FFXIII projects (FFXV included), remakes and remasters, or the MMO, so it makes me wonder what they've been cooking up for a battle system.
I don't expect them to be done with anything anytime soon, since they put a lot of focus into all the projects they've done since then, but creatively we haven't seen anything "new" in a loooong time (aside from FFVII's FFXIII-hybrid battles).
I hope they try something new again, and not just stick to tried-and-true methods!
It doesn't seem like much to ask for a re-release with 60 FPS gameplay and an uptick in resolution, but it's telling that the PC versions are HORRIBLE. Like unbelievably bad. I have a PC that's waaaaay more powerful than a PS4, for example, and can't even get a steady 30 FPS @ 900p on FFXIII and FFXIII-2 (Lighting Returns runs perfect, tho). They run worse than on PS3, lol. The cutscene movies also look horrible, but that's probably because they're not the BluRay versions, but then that doesn't explain the massive install sizes.
There must be some kinda porting issue that's prevented them from doing this already.
Insane graphics, but the gameplay hasn't moved an inch since 2007 (Uncharted 1), lol. I'm more interested in more complex A.I. and interaction (i.e. things don't just look pretty, you can smash them or they react with real physics).
Sales-wise, doesn't the pecking order go: Monster Hunter World, Devil May Cry 5, Resident Evil 2? I'm expecting announcements in that order, aside from Resident Evil 8 (which was already in development since before any of those games released).
@carlos82 I was wondering when/if they were gonna add "real" characters, and I feel like they shoulda done this from the start! Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura...and speaking of Danny Glover, that opens up the possibility of having an Predator 2-style city level!
Despite all of this, it doesn't change the fact that pretty all of the matches I've played involve the Predator coming down at some point and getting absolutely annihilated by the humans, then self-destructing. Is this how it's always supposed to go....?
@Nickolaidas Same here! Seems like the only dinosaur game shoot-y we've gotten recently is ARK, and that just didn't cut it for me (just can't invest the hours that survival/crafting games require to get to the good stuff).
I recommend going back and revisiting Turok (2008) and Jurassic: The Hunted if you've never played those (both on PS3), and there's the Turok 1 + 2 remasters on Switch, PC, and X1. Turok 2 has even been updated with waypoints and the ability to grab ledges if you come up short on a jump!
I’m definitely getting this, but I’m disappointed there’s only 3 new characters! I was expecting Takeda from the leaks. Then again, it’s not called “Kombat Pack 2” so I’m sure we’ll hear about that later in the year.
Don’t see myself maining any of the new characters (Fujin is unexpectedly cool, tho), but I loved the story and can’t wait for more!
Didnt see this coming! Saw a guy in a forum once talking about how his uncle works for NetherRealm and the next DLC was gonna be story. Horrible speller, no one believed him. But, turns out he was right...HE WAS RIGHT!!!
Not surprised! Players fighting each other from opposite sides of the world (from Japan to England to Korea to the United Emirates) in games where a bad connection means disaster, I wonder how this will go? I can only hope that it forces fighting game developers to upgrade the online infrastructure of all their games!
An online edition of Marvel vs Capcom 2 would also be fitting!
Anyway, I'm just happy I got to see the Mortal Kombat championships (Final Kombat) right before the quarantine started...
Releasing during summer is also a very bold move...I seem to remember it's a rule that most games don't do this, due to summer activities affecting sales. People going on vacations, spending days at the beach/lake and nights under the stars, etc. If the quarantine is lifted in the summer, I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of people wanting to get out!
Anyway..."Summer release = autumn decrease (in price)!"
They look less like chibi characters and more like straight-up midgets, lol. Also, I'm pretty sure that throwing a midget to a crocodile is one part murder, second part hate crime...
@Cyrus29 It's definitely Gears-ish! Haven't played it since it came out, but I remember it being a bit on the generic side, kinda like Spec Ops The Line with some Dark Void thrown in there ('cuz you float around in some sections). Definitely a solid 3 out of 5. The setting and story were the most pleasant surprise for me and what made the game stick-out in my memory.
Saber Interactive, eh? They should re-release Inversion too! I liked that one a lot...has one of my favorite plot twists halfway through, and has an interesting ending.
Kinda looks like...the reporter from the single player campaign? That might be a funny DLC character. Hoping to hear more news on Season 4 soon, especially since I finally decided to really start learning this game!
I'd take a cash-in game with Owen running around gunning dinos down! I hope they add more hybrids into the next movie, which I kinda doubt, but that's the main facet of the new films that interests me the most...
First thing: thank you for being on top of the news...I mean, I visit several other sites, and NONE of them have any of the breaking news you have!
Second...I'm 100% going to get this! I was expecting a 2D adventure game based on the cinematic, but I'm super excited after seeing the in-game footage!
Nice article! The upcoming Crysis remaster should also scratch this itch! Definitely a fun sandbox game that focuses on emergent gameplay and approaching levels from lotsa different angles!
@Rudy_Manchego A couple games I wanted were on sale in January of this year, I seem to remember, but I passed on them at the time. Like Dragon Quest Builders was 50% ($20). Kickin' myself over that one, mainly, because the number of Vita titles on my wishlist that have been on-sale since then is exactly ZERO, lol...

Re: Of Course Assassin's Creed Valhalla Brings Back the Worst Part of the Series
I really respect when a company tries to improve on something that was "bad" instead of abandoning it, especially when it comes to story.
Re: PS4's Ghost of Tsushima Delayed into July 2020, Extra Time Will Be Used for Finishing Touches
Re: The Last of Us 2 Release Date Set for This Summer on PS4
Egads, looks like I'll have to prioritize finally playing through "Left Behind"!
Also, Dark Pictures Anthology : Little Hope is supposed to release around the same time...could be a good summer for horror games!
Re: WWE 2K Battlegrounds Is a Light-Hearted Take on Wrestling, Coming This Year
They look less like chibi characters and more like straight-up midgets, lol. Also, I'm pretty sure that throwing a midget to a crocodile is one part murder, second part hate crime...
Re: Crysis Remastered Won't Include Warhead Expansion
@Cyrus29 It's definitely Gears-ish! Haven't played it since it came out, but I remember it being a bit on the generic side, kinda like Spec Ops The Line with some Dark Void thrown in there ('cuz you float around in some sections). Definitely a solid 3 out of 5. The setting and story were the most pleasant surprise for me and what made the game stick-out in my memory.
Re: Crysis Remastered Won't Include Warhead Expansion
Saber Interactive, eh? They should re-release Inversion too! I liked that one a lot...has one of my favorite plot twists halfway through, and has an interesting ending.
Re: Tekken 7 Website Teases a New, Unknown Character
Kinda looks like...the reporter from the single player campaign? That might be a funny DLC character. Hoping to hear more news on Season 4 soon, especially since I finally decided to really start learning this game!
Re: Jurassic World Aftermath Trademark Hints at a New Game Based on Upcoming Movie
I'd take a cash-in game with Owen running around gunning dinos down! I hope they add more hybrids into the next movie, which I kinda doubt, but that's the main facet of the new films that interests me the most...
Re: Minimal Affect Is a Mass Effect Parody Game Launching in 2021
First thing: thank you for being on top of the news...I mean, I visit several other sites, and NONE of them have any of the breaking news you have!
Second...I'm 100% going to get this! I was expecting a 2D adventure game based on the cinematic, but I'm super excited after seeing the in-game footage!
Re: Soapbox: I Want Better Levels on PS5, Not Bigger Worlds
Nice article! The upcoming Crysis remaster should also scratch this itch! Definitely a fun sandbox game that focuses on emergent gameplay and approaching levels from lotsa different angles!
Re: PS Vita Support Shows No Signs of Slowing in 2020
@Rudy_Manchego A couple games I wanted were on sale in January of this year, I seem to remember, but I passed on them at the time. Like Dragon Quest Builders was 50% ($20). Kickin' myself over that one, mainly, because the number of Vita titles on my wishlist that have been on-sale since then is exactly ZERO, lol...
