Re: Like Clockwork, There'll Be a New Call of Duty This Christmas

stinkyx

@ScottyG I get COD every year, and you definitely jumped back in at the right time with Modern Warfare (2019)...best game in the ENTIRE series, IMHO!

Like the article says, Sledgehammer Games is making the next one (instead of Treyarch, who's dropped the ball twice in row now, IMHO, with BLOPS4 and Cold War), so I'm optimistic! At the same time, Cold War definitely is making me think twice about ever getting another Treyarch game...

Re: Official Killzone Website Shut Down, Some Services Affected

stinkyx

KZ Shadowfall is in my top 5 multiplayer shooters of all time...wish other people felt the same way!

I think it stems from how bull-headed most people are, and how the game required you to think, just a little. Like getting spawn camped...it seemed like no one else on my team knew how to sneak out and kill the entire other team from behind. They just run straight out and get killed. Or the need to do basic things like group to take objectives and switch roles based on the situation...seems like people stick with one class and just rush off alone to their death.

Re: Soapbox: I Think I Like Battle Passes, But They Do Stress Me Out a Bit

stinkyx

@get2sammyb 100% on the map pack thing! Glad that's over with. And I've definitely gotten "my money's worth" on a pass before it was over, but still grinded it out to level 100 so I could get all the free money in it.

One other thing you might try is not buy the pass until the season is over, and so you know exactly what you're getting.

Also, you and this site rule! Keep up the good work!

Re: Soapbox: I Think I Like Battle Passes, But They Do Stress Me Out a Bit

stinkyx

@Harryftm1 I would agree with you except that Modern Warfare is actually in the top 3 best multiplayer shooters I've ever played (if not the best). Gunfight, in particular...no more getting shot in the back, no more weapon advantage, just 100% skill and strategy. Amazing game mode, especially with a buddy.

With how bad BLOPS is, there's still TONS of people playing MW. Give it a shot if you can (and not just the free Warzone part of it, which is fun but not what I'm raving about)!

Re: Soapbox: I Think I Like Battle Passes, But They Do Stress Me Out a Bit

stinkyx

@Flaming_Kaiser YEP! My experience exactly!!! And as far as I can tell, things haven't gotten cheaper or easier. You still cruise through the early levels of the pass (because you're completing all the easy XP challenges, like get XX kills with XX weapon) and then it starts crawling when you get to the rewards you actually want. Then you start doing stuff like "get 20 longshot kills with a machine gun" that sound fun on paper get frustrating and time consuming very quickly.

One thing that really helped "free me" from the clutches of DLC and battle passes in Modern Warfare was buying the same skin as the people I play with (so we can all match, thus removing my desire to buy more skins or get battle pass cosmetics).

For games I play by myself, I might treat myself to a $15 premium skin and then am done with DLC until the next season. Way better than merciless grinding out a pass. Costs a bit more than a pass, but I save tons of time, and get a unique look.

Re: Soapbox: I Think I Like Battle Passes, But They Do Stress Me Out a Bit

stinkyx

Do a write up after completing a battle pass and THEN we'll see how much you like them! As the clock winds down, you'll end up focusing on XP-reward challenges over actually having fun, the game will take up even more free time you don't have, and you'll be pressured into paying to unlock levels to get to 100 (otherwise, it feels like the whole grind was partially a waste).

At that point, you'll probably never want to do another one, or, in my case, you'll do one more before realizing they're somehow worse than paid DLC. Just my experience!

Re: King of Fighters XV Looks Like a Real Step Forward in First Trailer, Screenshots

stinkyx

@SimoneBelmont What! The old days were even worse with "complete packages." For example, most of the King of Fighters sequels barely added anything new from entry to entry, and so instead of buying an entirely new $60 game every year, you can now just get $15 to $30 character packs. If KoF 14 was released in the 90s/00s, the 2 DLC packs would've been KoF15 and KoF16, lol.

Other prime examples of this are MK3/UMK3/MKT and of course all the Street Fighter 2 and Alpha games.

Also, in my opinion, most fighting games these days are "complete" on release (except SF5). Tekken 7, GGXrd, KoF14, MK11...they all could've stopped at the base game and never released any DLC and they would've been "complete" $60 games, easily. People act like they're entitled to legacy DLC characters ("this character should've been in the game to begin with!") but forget that this isn't SSBU where Nintendo basically copy-pasted 58 characters from the previous game without changing anything...returning characters are all built from the ground up!

Anyway, just my take!

Re: Capcom Shares Three New Resident Evil Village Screenshots

stinkyx

@Snake_V5 What Jimmer-jammer said! At least give the demo a go. Definitely gave me the same vibes as the first game. The only thing I really miss from being third person is having a cool/goofy/sexy/iconic character to look at. Ethan isn't much of a character, with the trade-off being that he's supposed to be YOU (I think) for a fresher take on some scares.

Re: The Next Mass Effect Game Teased, Liara Appears in Post-Trilogy Trailer with N7 Armour

stinkyx

I was getting choked up until I saw it was a sequel to the original games. Are we gonna retcon the endings now?? If they're gonna do that, they should remake the end of ME3 AGAIN for the upcoming Legendary Edition.

Love the original trilogy, but those characters and that story should just be left alone, IMHO. Andromeda had a great premise (the ark 400 years in the future and an entire galaxy away) but fumbled the execution...it's really sad and frustrating to see them just toss that whole thing to the side.

Re: Soapbox: The Conversation About Games Moves Too Quickly

stinkyx

Great article! Also, I think you guys need a monthly "top 10 video games" kinda like old magazines used to have, i.e. GoldenEye 007 sitting firmly in the top 3 for years under Nintendo Power (side note: did PSM and OPM do that too? I don't remember...).

Maybe site visitors can vote every month for their top PS4 and PS5 games, and most wanted upcoming games. Extra clicks if nothing else, but keeps the hype going all year 'round!

Re: 10 Things to Do First with Your New PS5

stinkyx

Congrats to all with a shiny new PS5! I haven't been compelled to get one yet, but I know the extreme joy of re-discovering all of your old games with shiny new souped-up settings (every time I've upgraded my PC), so that's what I'm most excited about!

Re: Sony Considered Raising PS5 Game Prices Beyond $70, Says New Report

stinkyx

$70 games is a huge experiment! We'll see how it pans out...personally, I'm not going to support it, which is easy for me to say because I'm not planning to get a PS5 this year, lol.

Sure, games have much higher production costs nowadays, due to graphics technology, but is that really worth it? So far, I've seen prettier and more realistic environments, but it's what we've seen on PC for years, for $60!

The only REAL next-gen stuff we've seen, IMHO, is the Unreal 5 showcase, but underneath it's the same ol' third person exploration game we've been playing since Uncharted 1. Where's the advanced A.I., the interactive environments, the new gameplay systems? These are things that I might be willing to pay $70 for. But the same old games with better graphics should be THE LEAST we get for $60 in 2021 and beyond!

Also, I'd much rather have 8-12 hour games for $60 than some bloated 30-40 hour experience for $70. Devs need to work within their means. $60, 60 FPS, 4K...these things should be standard for every game.

Re: Tekken 7 Season 4 Launches 10th November with Kunimitsu, Balance Adjustments, New Moves, and More

stinkyx

@RaZieLDaNtE TBH, there are a good number of fighting games that feel like "finished" products day one. Injustice 2, Tekken 7, and MK11, for example, aside from the pre-order bonus characters. I'd say those game were more or less "done" on day one. TONS of characters, extra modes, in-game unlockables, and robust story modes.

In those cases, I personally don't mind the seasonal format...extra content definitely beats an entirely new sequel every couple years like in previous gens, IMHO. I like that I have multiple years to learn and get better at this game, instead of starting over with Tekken 8 and Tekken 9.

This DLC is like the 49th character in the game or something, and with no other DLC schemes (lootboxes, gems, etc), I don't blame Namco for charging for it. And look at her...more detail and work into this 1 character than the entire SSBU roster, lol. Definitely a good pick for fans and something to get excited about!

Re: NBA 2K21 Adds Female MyPLAYER on PS5

stinkyx

@Sub-Xero Whatever ulterior motives they may have, it looks like they put a good amount of work into this mode, and I'm sure it will help bolster interest in the WNBA, even if just by a little bit. So good on them, IMHO!

I actually looked up the WNBA earlier this year because someone told me they were still around, and I was arguing that it got disbanded over a decade ago...I was wrong, lol.

Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5

stinkyx

@K1LLEGAL I'm definitely not a fan boy, in fact I'm mostly a PC gamer, but there's definitely a disparity between MS and Sony in terms of output. Dunno what the deal is with FFXVI's exclusivity, but I know that certain games are exclusive because Sony helps fund them.

Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5

stinkyx

The main problem I have is that, instead of actually MAKING THEIR OWN GAMES, Microsoft is just preventing PS5 gamers from playing the next titles from a popular developer.

Instead of buying studios, MS should, I dunno...actually finish some games instead of cancelling them all the time? Their output has been horrible.

Re: Rain Gameplay in Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Will Make You Wet

stinkyx

@MordmitTotschlag That's rain's "klassic look"! Like many other ninja characters, he started out as a re-color of Sub-Zero and Scorpion (except with different moves of course).

Edit: waitaminute, you're right, it looks like someone just re-colored a Sub-Zero picture, lol. The scar and Lin Kuei emblem are not things Rain would have!

Re: Here Is the First Ever PS5 Game, Hot Off the Press

stinkyx

Good lord, that first picture is off-putting. The game is definitely not the first thing I see, and I don't feel so much "excitement" as "repulsion", lol. Pitchford looks like a bug-eyed fish man bursting from a sewer to take a desperate gulp of air.

Re: Guilty Gear Strive Will Have 15 Characters at Launch, Giovanna Revealed

stinkyx

@GKO900 Hey now, this franchise is one-of-a-kind! And let's not get Super Smash Bros Ultimate mixed-up with real fighting games.

First of all, no other fighting game in history has come close to the amount of characters in SSBU, so it should be the exception, not the rule. Second, all of those characters are just copy-pasted from previous SSB games with the exact same moves and no new mechanics. Next, all of those characters look like garbage up close...compare that to the detail in Guilty Gear Strive. The difference is insane! Lastly, this game was impacted by the quarantine, so I'm sure the devs would've liked to include more characters (and they're not alone...look at MK11's newest character pack having 3 characters instead of 6, Street Fighter V's crazy drawn-out release schedule for its next character season, and Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur 6 rolling out characters at a snail's pace too).

I don't blame anyone for skipping this game initially, given the roster and price point. Personally, I definitely wish there were more characters, or if they released it for $30. But this series has an incredible legacy, and I'll take this over a SSB game with 1000+ characters (still waiting for them to add Boo or Toad, dang it!!!), and that's why someone like me would foolishly drop $85 on Guilty Gear Strive at launch, lol. I can't wait!!!
