Re: PS Plus January 2020 PS4 Games Announced

stinkyx

@funkyflounder83 Don’t forget that Games Pass is $5 on PC (instead of $15 on Xbox) and has new games added every week, not to mention all the new first party releases. Talk about value!

For me, however, all these free games and games as services haven’t changed my buying habits at all. I just want a good game, and I’m happy to buy it for the right price! Sony has been carrying the torch of constantly creating unique, meaningful experiences and new IPs, so I think that’s what’s important above anything else, free games be damned!

Re: PS Plus January 2020 PS4 Games Announced

stinkyx

TBH, I have NEVER played any of the games given out by PS Plus in the past five years. I’ve either already had them, or never really wanted to play them in the first place (case in point: this month). The biggest perk to me is the discounts and bonus $5 off for all UFC fights (before ESPN took that all away)!

Re: PS5 Specs Leak Sends the Web into a Frenzy

stinkyx

This last generation showed us that no matter how much horsepower you give developers, they’ll still occasionally crank out unoptimized garbage that can’t even maintain a steady 30 FPS at 1080p!

And I’d like to say that graphics and power don’t matter, but I know full well from the PS3 days (those horrible ports!) and from PC gaming that when a game runs and looks better, it’s a whole different experience!

Re: Feature: The PS4 Games You Already Forgot Were Released in 2019

stinkyx

Left Alive is at the top of my wishlist! The PC version, in particular, which I’ve played, since it has an exclusive crobar that you start out with, which i find absolutely hilarious to hit people with from behind. From what I played, it was more fun than my brief experience with MGS5, honestly.

Re: Guide: Best Resident Evil Games Ranked

stinkyx

Resident Evil 6 is a great game if you can get the controls down, IMHO, and playing co-op with a buddy. Roundhouse kicking your friend in the back of the head so they go flying into a group of zombies is what it’s all about!

Re: Game of the Decade: Fortnite Became the Biggest Video Game in the World

stinkyx

I’ve always hated Fortnite, but this past few months it finally clicked. It’s actually a super solid game, namely since the Season 11 update, and the building mechanics make for some memorable battles that never would’ve occurred in any other game. I feel like the people here (you!!) should give it another shot, and make sure you learn to at least build a little before writing it off. It makes for a unique experience in a sea of same-y games, IMHO. Also, the online community seems nicer than other games (i.e. Apex Legends, where I refuse to play with randoms), with the scummier folks being adults, lol.

This uniqueness is also why I’d put LawBreakers (R.I.P.) up there as one of the best shooters this generation, with the zero gravity stuff. More fun than Overwatch, IMHO! Had the best soundtrack of the decade too, IMHO

Re: Talking Point: Should Capcom Remake Resident Evil 4?

stinkyx

@kyleforrester87 I was just gonna say your exact comment! Dino Crisis and Code Veronica would definitely be huge upgrades over the original games, whereas I dont see how they could significantly improve RE4 as-is, aside from graphics.

Also: Removing all the humor would be a huge mistake, IMHO! I love all the goofy stuff in these games.

Re: Resident Evil 3 Screenshots Look Terrifyingly Incredible

stinkyx

I never got past the train part in the original (I got FFIX at the time and that took over), and I actually have no idea what happens for the rest of the game. With how far off this remake is, I think I’m gonna play through the original first, as opposed to playing this fresh for the first time.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Pass Progression Is Suspiciously Slow

stinkyx

@Flaming_Kaiser With the Battle Pass, all the skins are preset. The only way you can pick a specific skin you want is to use the in-game money, and all of the nice skins are $12 basically. I used all of the free in-game money I got to buy one of these kinda skins (since I’m not planning to use it for next season’s pass), and I also picked up a $5 promo skin they have every once in a while which gives you a skin and $6 of in-game money. It’s definitely all kind of a rip-off, but it beats the $20 I spent on Overwatch getting lootboxes full of garbage I never used.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Pass Progression Is Suspiciously Slow

stinkyx

@Flaming_Kaiser The cool thing about the Fortnite Battle Pass is that you earn just enough in-game money doing it that you can pay for the next season’s pass (3 seasons a year). So technically you can just buy the pass once and play forever! Personally I thought it was fun and didn’t feel like a grind, but to each their own. I rarely play one game for more than 40 hours, and so I’m probably gonna shelve this one soon, but I was mostly pleasantly surprised by how many nice skins you got and other stuff in lieu of the trash Ive seen in every single other battle pass. All for $10.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Pass Progression Is Suspiciously Slow

stinkyx

30-40 hour Battle Pass with Fortnite, and pushing 50-60 if you want all of the alternate skins. Good value for $10, especially since most of the skins are high quality IMHO, and not just lazy pallets swaps like in some other games.

Hated that game for a long time but I just got into it and now I’d highly recommend it, lol. Just don’t tell anyone IRL or they’ll ostracize you.

As for this game...I’m already burned out and I think I’ve only got like 12 hours into it, lol.

Re: Jill Valentine Looks a Lot Different in Resident Evil 3 Remake

stinkyx

@Stragen8 Yeah, some consistency would be nice! Like the article suggests, however, this isn’t the first or second time they’ve changed Jill’s appearance, so it’s par for the course.

The “Julia Voth” version of Jill has always been my favorite, so I’m not super happy with the redesign, but I felt the same about RE2 Remake and that definitely changed by the end of the game.

Re: NetherRealm Rules the Fighting Game Roost on PS4

stinkyx

@shonenjump86 There’s too many fighting games, not enough time! I just regretfully uninstalled KoF14, DOA6, and Tekken 7 last week and decided to only focus on getting better at MK11, SoulCalibur VI, and possibly Street Fighter V (Lucia is just too fun to play as, otherwise I woulda uninstalled that too, or at least until the next edition update).

Re: NetherRealm Rules the Fighting Game Roost on PS4

stinkyx

MKX has been on sale for $5 a buncha times, so I would think those numbers don’t mean as much as it might suggest, haha.

Anyway...MK11 is by far my favorite fighting game this generation, for the reasons others have listed above. Great fighting mechanics (blows MKX away IMHO), insane graphics, cool characters...only bad thing is the story mode ending that makes me feel weird about even my own existence!

Re: Death Stranding Launch Trailer Is Here, and It's an Absolute Must See

stinkyx

Gah! I think I’ll wait for the PC version, since I’m sure this will make my PS4 sound like a jet engine (like every non-2D game does at this point).

Short of cleaning it, which I often do, what’re we supposed to do, short of buying a new console (which is dumb with the PS5 a year away)? I’m not about to crack it open and re-apply gel to the heatsink or whatever!

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Becomes the Best Selling Game of 2019 with Record Breaking Launch

stinkyx

@huyi one reason I started playing a lot of COD is that the online community is guaranteed to last until the next installment, which makes it the only non-cartoony, non-BR multiplayer shooter out there where the servers won’t go dead shortly after launch (otherwise I’d be playing LawBreakers and Killzone Shadowfall, R.I.P.).

This year’s installment ups the ante with cross play, which ended up being the selling point for me since I can now play with friends across Xbox, PC, and PS4. It’s definitely samey, and I used to scoff at the yearly releases, but it’s a reliable series that does just enough new stuff each year to trick me into buying it, lol.

Re: Death Stranding Looks Strangely Compelling in Extended PS4 Gameplay

stinkyx

I guess I still don’t get it. You deliver packages, and you have to asses the delivery route beforehand and prepare accordingly by setting waypoints and packing the correct gear, which includes ladders that just let you climb in a straight line over the environment? Honestly, on paper it doesn’t sound all that new and exciting, and the somewhat mundane gameplay seems at odds with the strange and beautiful art direction. That last item is what makes this game compelling to me, so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it...

Re: River City Girls - Retro Brawling With a Twist

stinkyx

Nice review. Love the pros and cons at the end, btw. I know you’ve been doing it for a while, but it deserves recognition as a recent positive change!

Only thing I would still recommend is a quick one-paragraph hot-take and score from some other staff who might’ve also played it. After all, one person’s 6/10 could be another person’s 9/10! It’s all subjective anyway, so why not throw some extra opinions in there?

Re: Control - Was Remedy's Return to PlayStation Worth the Wait?

stinkyx

Gah, I can’t stand frame rate drops below 30 FPS. No matter how much horsepower you give devs, they always go beyond their means. Tsk tsk. Maybe next gen we’ll FINALLY get 1080p, 60 FPS across the board, but I know we won’t.

Sounds like I’ll wait for the PC release to go on sale. That way I’ll be able to run it at a solid 60 FPS at least, compared to this version.

And this looks like it’s exactly the game for me, but not really worth $60. Paying full price is usually too much pressure to enjoy the game, lol. Like, “This is good. I don’t know about $60 good, but it’s good...”
