I remember a ton of the action scenes in TR 2013. The shanty town, after the so-called rape scene, the cavern cult scene, the plane crash scene, the tower scene, inside the boat scene, etc.
Think about the combat mechanics with Tomb Raider though, the melee attacks with the pick axe, the rather deep upgrade system for both your weapons, transversal methods, and hand to hand combat. From a combat viewpoint, I think Tomb Raider has more depth. I haven't played Rise yet, but I'm guessing it's just as good if not better.
3 is a great game with some pretty big pacing / flow issues. Colin and Greg are just trying to justify that 10, I think most people with good taste know that 2 is the better game.
To be honest, if you really want to play Fallout 4, and you've never been one to gripe about performance..........this is still very playable. I would say, give it a try.
Is it acceptable in a general sense,.......no, Bethesda should probably get a slap on their hand again, but it is playable, and actually quite good.
I just finished a good hour or so in Far Harbor ......... and the framerate is a bit......ch....o...pp...y.....in the fog, still playable granted, but far from smooth.
Still, the setting in the state of Maine is pretty cool, beats Boston or DC.
Yes, I would have been much more hyped for Driveclub 2, I would have loved to seen what Evolution could have built off that foundation. It was a stellar final product.
Gran Turismo just comes off as a rather stale and stagnant franchise these days.....
I've been thinking this may be a free to play title as well, I hope that I'm wrong......but some indicators, it's a GT offshoot, and it won't replace 7 (so what's the point?), the vehicles come in four "packs".......I dunno. Like I said, I hope not.
You know, as much as people like to bash Crash, the second and third games are still some of the best titles of the PS1 gen, ultra polished and still fun to this day (the original 1996 Crash I feel has some problems in terms of level design and difficulty spikes).
BTW, the commercial with the guy in the Crash Bandicoot suit....sitting outside of Nintendo of America's HQ and making fun of Mario through a loud speaker is quintessential 1990's.
As for Bethesda, I think Zenimax, the actual controller of the company, was founded by ex-Bethesda founders.......hence they probably care about what the developers actually have to say (they use to run Bethesda during the early Elder Scrolls days and before).
Bethesda isn't perfect, but they do seem to be much more intune with the core gamer than most. It's great to see them develop a family of IP's (Dishonored, Elder Scrolls, Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein, Fallout, Evil Within).......pretty impressive group if you ask me.
The soundtrack is very Id-ish. Doom I/II had a bunch of (illegal) midi samples of riffs lifted off of Pantera, Megadeth, etc, as well a bunch of original stuff.
Trent Reznor (NIN) actually did the soundtrack for Quake, as you mentioned.........dunno who did Quake 2, but that was probably my favorite of the bunch, it was very industrial - riff heavy why also by insanely catchy for instrumentals.
Doom 2016 fits the tempo of previous releases IMO, I ended up turning the music up and sfx down.
I agree with your outlook on the multplayer mode........it's not the best out there, but it's also far from being bad or horrendous, it's just fair, not bad nor great.
Some people make it sound like it's bad, and that's simply not the case........just that the single player is the main course here, it outshines it.
1/10? Somebody got their panties in a bunch and was politically offended.
I'll also supplement The Fallout DLC with Kirby: Triple Deluxe (don't judge me!, just because I'm 30 and playing Kirby......shut up!, I go to the gym on the reg,....it's a great game, haters......)
If your in your mid 30's and you've used the phrase "back in my day"....
Those are some goddamn fighting words Sammy! You little limey twenty something year old hipster! Granted I'm only 30, but I feel like I have to defend the old farts on this site.
Good review though!, although I don't agree with all of your opinions,..............if you guys plan on doing more video reviews to help build your YouTube following, I would almost recommend just going entirely to a splash screen and gameplay only, just looks more professional, and I'm sure it would be easier for you.
You didn't like the multiplayer or boss fights? Bah hum bug, anyways, I think this game will appeal to the PC crowd first, and that's not just because of the lineage.
I beat it today as well, I personally highly recommended it, but only if you know what your getting into (this isn't COD). Very few games can match this level of fast paced action and violence on display, and towards the end of the game, when your double jumping around 20 baddies with quad damage and a rocket launcher, it can be very rhythmic in a good way.
Also, I will say it's good value for the money, a long campaign, good multiplayer.
9 out of 10, and yes,......it's better than Journey.
Got you, everybody has their own preference. As for Sammy, don't quote him, he has a horrible taste in just about everything.
I think Doom has been pretty great, especially once you get past the first hour or two of familiarization. Worth the money so far IMO, and recommend, if you know what your getting yourself into it.
Fair enough, did you play the new Doom yet? It would be interesting to hear your take on it, considering your a fan of Doom 3. I will say, for this game, the more you play of it, the better it gets, although it's somewhat of an aquired taste.
As somebody mentioned before, two different goals. Doom is aiming for the smoothest experience possible. While it does have some very minor frame rate dips (note minor), it achieves it's mission well.
I'm not exactly sure how far I am, let's just say that I'm no longer on Mars.
Impressions so far, the combat feels very good, thanks to butter smooth controls. Music rocks (please turn it up and the sfx slightly lower). Level design is surprisingly old school, and, if your a fan of older PC FPS's, you'll probably like it,.......if you don't know anything outside of newer console FPS's, you probably won't..........the game unashamedly leaves storytelling and cinematic events to a minimum. It also takes a bit of time to develop a good caddeanc with the gameplay and upgrade systems.

@RaymanFan2
I agree that the addition of more colors (in this case) is a positive, not a negative.
Re: Batman: Return to Arkham Is Looking Like a Pretty Rough PS4 Remaster
I think it looks great for the most part.

Can't wait, great interview!
Re: NA PSN Flash Sale Asks You to Surrender Your Wallet
I'm not sure if Journey is worth the 4.49 USD.

BTW Sammy, KOF 14 just received a European release date untop of its NA release. Should be a good 9 out of 10.

The combat and shooting felt good as well.
Re: Poll: Which Uncharted Game Is the Best?

Tomb Raider (better gameplay)
Uncharted (better characters / narative)

Re: Poll: Which Uncharted Game Is the Best?
@get2sammyb
Uncharted 2 and 4 are the best for sure, but I think 2 has the superior pacing.......4 is a bit long winded in the beginning and towards the end.
The Last of Us is better than both though.

Wait, did you just say 1100 dollars for a PS2 in S. Africa? How the hell does that happen? I'm just curious tbh.
Re: Hands On: Fallout 4: Far Harbor's Frame Rate Is Unacceptable on PS4
I've put in about three more hours tonight, just wanted to say, it's not optimal, but it is playable.
So far I'm enjoying the Far Harbor map quite a bit.
Re: Hands On: Fallout 4: Far Harbor's Frame Rate Is Unacceptable on PS4
@ShogunRok @manu0
It kind of makes you wonder why Bethesda released it in this state.......it's playable, but they are going to get blowback.
lol, that's what Quake 2 was like for me (until I got a new PC).
Re: Hands On: Fallout 4: Far Harbor's Frame Rate Is Unacceptable on PS4
@ShogunRok
It's around 30 in the town or when the fog is mostly receded. 20 to 10 fps when your walking through the fog (it fluctuates).

That song is like a EDM mix of Yoshi's Island.
Re: Gran Turismo Sport's First PS4 Gameplay Trailer Takes to the Track

Well, let's just not compare it to that superior series, you know, Forza, better gameplay, better graphics, and you don't have to wait half a decade
(grabs his pitchfork to stab the incoming Sony fanboy horde).

Down with VR! Making my games look all fugly.

E3 2016, Crash 4 and Knack 2!!

Re: The Witcher 3 Celebrates Its First Birthday with Some Amazing Artwork

What about Journey though?
Re: The Witcher 3 Celebrates Its First Birthday with Some Amazing Artwork
Yeah, Witcher 3 is still my game of this gen (followed by Fallout 4, which nailed the world, but took a dip in narrative and quest design)......
Both of those games have a lot more flaws than say, Uncharted 4, but taken as an accumulate whole, I enjoyed the experience more.
Re: Sony Acknowledges the Demand for a New Crash Bandicoot Game
Saying it here, new Crash at E3 2016.

I wouldn't mind seeing Flying Wild Hog studios try to tackle Duke Nukem 3D.
Re: Review: DOOM (PS4)

I reckon the Internet was overreacting in thinking that it was going to be bad. Bethesda overestimated the importance of multiplayer for Doom.

Fallout 4: Far Harbor DLC for me this week.
Kind of surprised about Homefront given the mostly positive previews, I was expecting lots of 7 and 8's.
