Re: Poll: Which Uncharted Game Is the Best?

@get2sammyb

I remember a ton of the action scenes in TR 2013. The shanty town, after the so-called rape scene, the cavern cult scene, the plane crash scene, the tower scene, inside the boat scene, etc.

Think about the combat mechanics with Tomb Raider though, the melee attacks with the pick axe, the rather deep upgrade system for both your weapons, transversal methods, and hand to hand combat. From a combat viewpoint, I think Tomb Raider has more depth. I haven't played Rise yet, but I'm guessing it's just as good if not better.

The combat and shooting felt good as well.

Uncharted 2 and 4 are the best for sure, but I think 2 has the superior pacing.......4 is a bit long winded in the beginning and towards the end.

The Last of Us is better than both though.

@ShogunRok

To be honest, if you really want to play Fallout 4, and you've never been one to gripe about performance..........this is still very playable. I would say, give it a try.

Is it acceptable in a general sense,.......no, Bethesda should probably get a slap on their hand again, but it is playable, and actually quite good.

@get2sammyb

E3 2016, Crash 4 and Knack 2!!

You know, as much as people like to bash Crash, the second and third games are still some of the best titles of the PS1 gen, ultra polished and still fun to this day (the original 1996 Crash I feel has some problems in terms of level design and difficulty spikes).

BTW, the commercial with the guy in the Crash Bandicoot suit....sitting outside of Nintendo of America's HQ and making fun of Mario through a loud speaker is quintessential 1990's.

@Churchy

As for Bethesda, I think Zenimax, the actual controller of the company, was founded by ex-Bethesda founders.......hence they probably care about what the developers actually have to say (they use to run Bethesda during the early Elder Scrolls days and before).

Bethesda isn't perfect, but they do seem to be much more intune with the core gamer than most. It's great to see them develop a family of IP's (Dishonored, Elder Scrolls, Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein, Fallout, Evil Within).......pretty impressive group if you ask me.

Re: Review: DOOM (PS4)

@Churchy

The soundtrack is very Id-ish. Doom I/II had a bunch of (illegal) midi samples of riffs lifted off of Pantera, Megadeth, etc, as well a bunch of original stuff.

Trent Reznor (NIN) actually did the soundtrack for Quake, as you mentioned.........dunno who did Quake 2, but that was probably my favorite of the bunch, it was very industrial - riff heavy why also by insanely catchy for instrumentals.

Doom 2016 fits the tempo of previous releases IMO, I ended up turning the music up and sfx down.

Doom (single player + snapmap) 9 out of 10

Doom (single player + multiplayer + snapmap) 7 out of 10

@adf86

I reckon the Internet was overreacting in thinking that it was going to be bad. Bethesda overestimated the importance of multiplayer for Doom.

Re: Review: DOOM (PS4)

I agree with your outlook on the multplayer mode........it's not the best out there, but it's also far from being bad or horrendous, it's just fair, not bad nor great.

Some people make it sound like it's bad, and that's simply not the case........just that the single player is the main course here, it outshines it.

Re: Video: Should You Buy DOOM on PS4?

@get2sammyb

If your in your mid 30's and you've used the phrase "back in my day"....

Those are some goddamn fighting words Sammy! You little limey twenty something year old hipster! Granted I'm only 30, but I feel like I have to defend the old farts on this site.

Good review though!, although I don't agree with all of your opinions,..............if you guys plan on doing more video reviews to help build your YouTube following, I would almost recommend just going entirely to a splash screen and gameplay only, just looks more professional, and I'm sure it would be easier for you.

Re: Hands On: Dispatching Demons in DOOM on PS4

@get2sammyb

You didn't like the multiplayer or boss fights? Bah hum bug, anyways, I think this game will appeal to the PC crowd first, and that's not just because of the lineage.

I beat it today as well, I personally highly recommended it, but only if you know what your getting into (this isn't COD). Very few games can match this level of fast paced action and violence on display, and towards the end of the game, when your double jumping around 20 baddies with quad damage and a rocket launcher, it can be very rhythmic in a good way.

Also, I will say it's good value for the money, a long campaign, good multiplayer.

9 out of 10, and yes,......it's better than Journey.

@BAMozzy

Got you, everybody has their own preference. As for Sammy, don't quote him, he has a horrible taste in just about everything.

I think Doom has been pretty great, especially once you get past the first hour or two of familiarization. Worth the money so far IMO, and recommend, if you know what your getting yourself into it.

Re: Hands On: Dispatching Demons in DOOM on PS4

@BAMozzy

Fair enough, did you play the new Doom yet? It would be interesting to hear your take on it, considering your a fan of Doom 3. I will say, for this game, the more you play of it, the better it gets, although it's somewhat of an aquired taste.

Re: Hands On: Dispatching Demons in DOOM on PS4

@BAMozzy

As somebody mentioned before, two different goals. Doom is aiming for the smoothest experience possible. While it does have some very minor frame rate dips (note minor), it achieves it's mission well.

Re: Hands On: Dispatching Demons in DOOM on PS4

I'm not exactly sure how far I am, let's just say that I'm no longer on Mars.

Impressions so far, the combat feels very good, thanks to butter smooth controls. Music rocks (please turn it up and the sfx slightly lower). Level design is surprisingly old school, and, if your a fan of older PC FPS's, you'll probably like it,.......if you don't know anything outside of newer console FPS's, you probably won't..........the game unashamedly leaves storytelling and cinematic events to a minimum. It also takes a bit of time to develop a good caddeanc with the gameplay and upgrade systems.
