Still better than the DS3.....that thing felt outdated from day one, along with the sixaxis. I never felt like the dual shock was all that great of a controller until the DS4 to be honest........although the original dual analog, in retrospection, was the most practical on the market until the Xbox S controller in 2002.
Here is the thing, Microsoft is based on the west coast, Sony's global Playstation HQ just moved from Japan to the west coast, Nintendo of America is west coast, EA, west coast, same with Activision, the same with a lot of the videogame industry.
It just makes sense to have some kind of trade show somewhere on the west coast, no other place is more logical. Be it called E3 or not.
Pretty minor change in consideration that EA, Activision, Disney, and Konami were not on the show floor. So it's really not that dire IMO.
Say what you want, but E3 still brings the hype, if it wasn't for all the leaks and early press releases, I don't think people would be critiquing this year nearly as much (I though it was good).
Lets face it, Gamescom just doesn't have the same glitz and glam,.......guess what people?!!!? Codemasters just announced a new rally game!!!...........(it's not that bad, lol, but it's no E3)
Nothing worse than snobby digital foundry graphic whores.......sniffle sniffle cough......you can't even run at 30 FPS!!?? The game slows down to 28 FPS!! during at least three fight scenes!! UNACCEPTABLE!! Look at those low quality console textures. UNACCEPTABLE!!
That's why USGamer is a better site than the popularity contest that is the Eurogamer community.
The bigger news is that it looks like Insomniac and Sony are in good graces again......for a time, with Insomniac going multi-platform (Fuse with EA, Overdrive for Microsoft), poor Resistance 3 sales, and with the Ratchet series in a tailspin until the newest game, it looked like the two companies weren't exactly on the closest of terms anymore.
It looks great, almost as if Zelda decided to take a trip down modern western RPG lane.
That being said, I felt burned by both the Wii and Wii U, so I probably won't buy it unless the NX happens to be a portable that replaces the 3DS as well.
Dead Rising 4 could have done pretty well on the PS4, if it wasn't held back for a year......remember, many of us were not PS3 gamers last gen, I myself owned a X360 and Wii. Plus, Dead Rising, although it has a history with the Xbox brand, it also appeared on Sony and Nintendo consoles......it's not a tent pole Xbox brand, like Gears, Fable, Forza, and Halo.
If it wasn't for the leaks and all of the reveals in the prior week, it would have been quite a bit more impressive. Still a good show IMO, just not blow your socks off.
As far as Konami and SEGA (if your not counting ATLUS)......they might as well be dead.
I agree that the situation probably won't improve for MS at all until Scorpio, but I think they have already conceited defeat as far as being the market leader.......however, the One S is still a good option for those who want to jump into the Xbox brand or improve on their current launch unit.
For the Windows 10 argument, a lot of people do not have gaming PC's, or just prefer consoles in general.
Why buy the XB1 S?, a couple of reasons come to mind, (A), it's an upgrade to your launch XB1 and you have the money to spend, (B), you want a 4K media player and your also interested in Microsoft franchises, (C), since everything will be backwards compatabile, you can get an XB1 S now with the future promise that in late 2017 you'll be able to buy the most powerful console on the market while also being able to do a quick transfer of your games library from the XB1 to the Scorpio.
To be honest I feel like Nintendo is so far removed from the pulse of mainstream gaming that even if some publications give Zelda: Breath of the Wild the nod, the actual title will still be ignored by the vast majority of people who are paying attention to E3.
The last generation lasted as long as it did due to the worldwide economic crisis that started in mid 2008 and affected most nations for a good four or five years afterwards. Had it not happened, and consumer spending was high, we probably would have seen new consoles in the late 2010-2012 timeframe.
Anyways, it's becoming obvious that due to the greater push by Microsoft and Sony to build hardware designs that directly support a common ecosystem with older machines,......the old ways of thinking about console generations may not be so cut and dry anymore.
I'm sure they will run, how well, that remains to be seen.....but let's be realistic here, there is a reason why Sony thought it was within their interest to create a more powerful console, and that's VR.
A PC with the equivalent specs of the base PS4 would not be considered an optimal platform for VR.
The original Xbox also lasted 4 years on the market, so it isn't exactly unprecedented. I would argue that 4 years in the minimum amount of time you can support a midly successful console. Nintendo was trying to do the same thing with the NX.
I'm pretty sure that 75% of the motivation behind Neo was PSVR......and the fact that the baseline PS4 will probably struggle with anything thats more advanced graphically than the equivalent of a SEGA Model 2 arcade game from 1993/1994.
I think Nintendo has a very tough road ahead.......I'm not saying it's hopeless.....but with PS4K already on the market and Scorpio looming large, the NX will have to work extremely hard at interesting a new consumer base outside of the rather small group of Nintendo hardcover faithful.
Xbox One S is more of a slim redesign with a few extra bells and whistles.
PS4K is more of an iterative design, it's obviously a decent jump up in terms of hardware capability over the base PS4, not quite a new console, but not just a slim redesign as well.
Scorpio, I think Microsoft is trying to push it as a massive leap over the current consoles, although in concept and shared ecosystem, it will probably be rather close to the PS4K, at least initially.
To be honest, no, I thought you had probably just played Sony since the PS1 and dabbled with Sega a bit in your youth,........that's not a knock, I came to that opinion because you never really reference anything outside of the Playstation ecosystem in your comments, barring Sega on a occasion (Shenmue and what not).
I'm going to guess that the base PS4 will not be the optimal way of enjoying PSVR, it will probably work ok, but be a tad underwhelming compared to it's competitors.
I reckon one of the major reasons, if not really the sole reason, for PS4 Neo, was to better run PSVR.
Yeah, it's kind of odd that all of the talk has been.....how can Sony release the Neo without T'ing off the current user base? MS talked about the Scorpio today and I don't think anybody threw up a fist in anger, but I reckon a lot of that is due to the fact that Xbox is the underdog this generation.
It's for sure becoming a joint Xbox / Win10 platform......I can deal with that as long as Microsoft stays invested in developing and publishing first and second party titles.
It's not a matter of console VS PC for me.....it's just, which console best suits my needs and wants? I'm sure I'm not the only one to think like that.
Really solid show from Microsoft,.....Forza Horizon 3, I wish Sony had it instead of GT Sport......Gears looked great as well.
I love the fact that you can download 360 games to your HD (not a new feature, but something that I wish PS4 had vice PSNow).
I'll probably have a better idea within the next two or three months if I'm going to jump ship to MS, outside of Naughty Dog and Driveclub, no Sony exclusives have grabbed me so far this gen (Horizon looks promising as well). Let's see if that changes tonight.
Hey, hey, what you trying to say!? Road Rash by EA on the 3DO was American, in a great way, hitting somebody over the head as they plow into a car while driving your crotch rocket through the California countryside,.......with Rusty Cage by Soundgarden playing in the background!
Although.....the only great thing from this conference was Titanfall 2,.......BF1 was decent, and Mass Effect was sleep inducing.
Is it very Hollywood-ish.....you can feel your ears getting overpowered as if you were inside a movie theater.
Agree that just straight up gameplay would have been nice, instead of Ubisoft-ing it, but it still looks very good in general concept. Just hopefully your not slaughtering hundreds of Germans to the newest Trap beats. Still, thumbs up.

Nice!!
Now here's hoping Id gives us some single player DLC or a sequel.......no one cares about this multiplayer nonsense.
Re: Review: Mighty No. 9 (PS4)
I think Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 is coming to NA this summer on the 3DS.
So that's your quasi-Mega Man game of the year (by the same people behind Mighty No. 9, just most likely a lot better).
Re: Round Up: Mighty No. 9's PS4 Reviews Are Not So Mighty
Deep Silver really needs to find a new marketing head.....

@adf86
You would need another Move iteration for that, this looks to be going after the Xbox Elite type of market, given the paddles and all.
Re: Sony Patents Elite PS4 Controller with Paddles and Adaptable Layout
All they have to do is improve the material of the joysticks and make the D-pad more like Nintendo's or the Vita.......that is all.
Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4's Still Holed Up in Croft Manor
I'll still most likely pick this one up. I'm guessing we won't be getting much of a window between announcement and release.
Re: PS4K Will Launch This Year, Sources Claim
Didn't they already say that all games (well, at least AAA) had to have a NEO mode implemented by like Sep or Oct?
Re: PS4K Will Launch This Year, Sources Claim
I'm expecting PS4K to launch sometime around the PSVR launch, which is October................

Re: E3 2016: Dead Rising 4 Will Dismantle the Undead on PS4 Next Year
So the same as Rise of the Tomb Raider.....
These 12 month exclusivity deals are a little lame in my opinion, it offers little incentive to actually buy your console.
Either make the game wholly exclusive, like the original Titanfall, or don't do it at all.
Re: E3 2016: Bethesda Admits Fallout 4's Dialogue System Isn't All That Great
Agree that the dialogue system isn't the best, not horrible, but still a bit shallow.
Also agree that Far Harbor rose above the main game as far as choice / thoughtful conversations.

Re: E3 2016: Suit Up With The Reveal Trailer for Batman: Arkham VR
Full of gimmicky and tacked on gameplay experiences that were branded as the next step forward in gaming.
Hmm.....kinda sounds like VR to me.

So we see no gameplay but people are hyping this up as if it's a sequel to Arkham Knight??
Did anybody learn anything from the Kinect?

Too Japanese is probably why it wasn't at the show.......bad excuse IMO.

It was good..........
I wouldn't say it was better than the MS conference, but I wouldn't say it was worse either.
I enjoyed the focus on trailers vice PR speak, they didn't force feed VR that badly, GOW and Horizon looked good, same with Spidey.
