@Max_the_German Whilst I would agree, far cry is multiplatform, so it was always likely it was going to have Dread beat. I just hope Dread's sales are good enough to continue the series and not leave it in hiatus for another 15 years!
I'd say it was good. We got some great proper reveals and some intriguing new games. But to be silent for a whole year, and that year be the first year of your brand new console, and then just to deliver a "good" showcase, I don't think it was enough.
Started playing Bloodborne a couple of weeks ago and I just can't get enough of this game, it's fantastic. I've unfortunately got exams very close though, meaning I can play it on the occasional evening, but not for very long. Looking forward to August when I can spend all day playing this masterpiece!
I'm surprisingly excited, although that's mainly for Nintendo's show, which I feel has a lot of potential to be excellent. No expectations for the other shows, but I enjoy this period of a ton of gaming news all squashed into a week and I'm glad it's back again this year!
@kyleforrester87 Very interesting, thanks for your response! I'd be interested to hear your thoughts once you've finished the game, because if it's anything like Automata then it sounds like the game only fully reveals itself after multiple playthroughs.
Think it might be worth buying when it's on sale - I've got enough games to keep me busy for the time being!
@kyleforrester87 I know you loved Automata, which I also absolutely adore, and was wondering how you're finding the original Nier? I've never played it myself and was thinking of picking it up soon, but just wanted to hear your thoughts on it!
I cannot WAIT for this! Excited beyond words! It comes out three days before my last exam so I'll have to push through those days without touching it otherwise I fear I'll fail!
I'm fully addicted to Hades since buying it over a week ago! I just finished a run where I got to the final boss for the first time, and I died fairly close to beating them. Cannot wait to play more, it's an amazing game that feels beautiful to play, and nails everything it's trying to do. One of the best games I've played in ages!
Why don't you just leave all of the cables connected though? I leave everything connected except the headset itself, that way I can just plug it into that extra box and get started in less than one minute!
Such a good game. The first rogue-like I've ever played and it's phenomenal. I'm still only on BC1 and don't ever anticipate I'm going to beat this game perfectly, but it just feels so good to play, and I always keep coming back to it.
I also just bought Hades a couple of days ago to try out another rogue-like game, and that is also excellent from what I've played so far! Strong recommendation for them both!
@Rob_230 Oh I didn't realise he alluded to them having anything in the works, that's promising! And absolutely, I like Sony's first party games to much to ever switch to Microsoft, but I've been generally happy about the recent success of gamepass as it means Sony will have to step up their game to keep up!
Gamepass looks like a better deal with every day. Sony still seems to be dominating the video game market, but it'll be interesting to see in the coming months/years how this changes, and will Sony have to tweak their current subscription services to rival it?
@AdamNovice Agreed, I played them on my 3DS and can't really imagine them working as well on a TV - I'd recommend people get it on their switch over a playstation. That said, with lockdown still continuing for a couple of months, I guess it doesn't really matter if it's handheld or not!
@OrigamiCrane Apollo Justice is my least favourite game in the main series, all of the cases except the first one are pretty weak, which then makes the game feel even worse because every subsequent case is a step down from your opening hours of the game.
Dual Destinies is a big step up, it's definitely got some problems holding it back from reaching the top heights of the series, but it's really enjoyable - I'd say it was on par with the first game
Spirit of Justice is absolutely phenomenal, and is only just edged out by Trials and Tribulations as my favourite game in the series.
So overall, I'd recommend you play the games after Apollo Justice, you've got a lot of great ace attorney there!
@Quintumply As you might be able to tell from my profile picture, I would strongly recommend it! All three games are wonderful, with the second being the weakest overall but makes up for it by having its final case being the best one in the series. The games are also best played in order, so this trilogy is a great place to start!
@Ralizah Thanks for writing out all of this, you've really peaked my interest! Do you think this entry would be a good way to get into the SMT series, or should I play IV instead considering I still have a perfectly usable 3DS? I don't have much time for JRPGs, I tend to play one every couple of years, so I want to make sure I make a good decision!
This is a really great game. It's very short, played it all in one day (albeit a VERY relaxed day), but the gameplay is incredibly satisfying, it's got a really interesting story, and I still occasionally listen to the music on Spotify. Worth getting!
I've been loving my PSVR since I got it about a year ago, and still need to try games like Beat Saber and Superhot VR. I'm very happy to hear Sony are still going to support it into the future, and most of all, excited for the inevitable Astrobot Rescue Mission 2!!!
It looks like it could be a lot of fun, and if it was a free PS plus game I could see it racking up a decent community. I think it's likely this one will just fade away very quickly though
@Bagwag82 Ahh okay, will do! I think I won't play all three at once - I'll play 1, then take a break for a month or two, then play 2, just so I don't try and rush through all three games at once!
@ztpayne7 Interesting you prefer 3 to 2! Why is that?
@ThaBEN This was essentially my train of thought - from what I'd heard, it sounds like it all builds up towards something and that something is then very lacklustre. However, most people seem to think the journey is still worth it, so I'm going to try it out!
@Hypnotoad107 @NudieBarVIP @Bagwag82 @RPE83 @MemSec @EquiinoxGII @ShogunRok Okay the outstanding number of people who are telling me to get it have swayed me! I'm not going to get it straight away, but I'll add this to my list, and in the near future I'll give these games a go. It doesn't sound like the ending of 3 ruins everything by any means at all, in which case I think it's worth trying these games out and seeing what all the fuss is about!
I'm still quite torn on this. I've never played any of them, and I've heard 2 is meant to be phenomenal. That said, I really don't want to get invested in a story that is known for having a poor ending in mass effect 3. It's like how I struggle to recommend game of thrones to anyone now, because despite how excellent the first 2/3rds are, I don't want someone to get invested in a story that ends poorly. Advice on this would be appreciated though!
This game just oozes confidence at every step, with style, a great story and amazing characters. If anyone's on the fence, I'd highly recommend you give it a go!
I adore the last of us part 2, but REALLY don't feel the need for a third one ever. I have faith Naughty Dog will do it justice if they ever did, but at the moment I'd really like to see them launch a new IP
@nessisonett Whilst I do agree with you, the current situation in hospitals is just too bad to let schools continue, especially with the increased infectivity of the new variant in children as well. Let's just hope that schools are the very first thing to open when cases start reducing again, so that the time children spend away from schools is as limited as possible
Interesting about the final 10 hours of Royal. I haven't played it at all, but I already found the original game's ending to be a bit too protracted, so this was expected for me, but still a shame! Out of interest, what parts of Royal did you find objectively better?
@Lumic The only other From game I've played is Dark Souls, and I just can't decide which one I prefer. Sekiro's combat just feel so satisfying though, and beating a boss you've been stuck on for ages is the best feeling ever
@iCaramba The B-sides aren't actually toooo horrendous! They're very tricky certainly, but if you go from the first level to the last one doing each B-side you'll continue to improve and won't feel too overwhelmed!
Nearly finished with Sekiro! I beat the Divine Dragon this morning, which was just jaw-droppingly awesome. A few days ago I beat Owl (Father) in Hirata Estate and that was one of the most satisfying video game encounters I've ever played. This game is fantastic, and I don't want it to end!
I played Astro Bot Rescue Mission this year and it completely blew me away. Every level had my grinning from ear to ear or dropping my jaw in amazement, and I desperately want a sequel to it!
Seems like it's sold a lot more than the Xbox! I wonder how much Microsoft will care though, since they're more focused on selling the Xbox as a service now instead, this may have been around their expectations. Overall, very interesting, and I wonder how the figures will change from here on out.
@carlos82 Xbox One's terrible start meant lots of people initially went for PS4. Then, people went "oh I'll get a PS4 because all my friends have one". The single player experiences definitely helped, but aren't the main reason the PS4 sold so well
2018 was probably the best year for Playstation, but I think 2017 was the best year for gaming. It had two of my favourite PS4 games in Nier: Automata and Persona 5, it had great Nintendo games in Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey, and great indie games in Celeste, Hollow Knight, Dead Cells and the Messenger. I also have a soft spot for Resident Evil 7, having played it on PSVR this year and adoring it, and I'm sure there are more games I'm missing as well! Definitely the best year in recent memory imo
I'm still on my PS5, and am what I assume is just over halfway playing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. I'm really loving it, and the satisfaction when I beat the Guardian Ape was second to none, although the lack of enemy and environment variety is getting a bit grating now. Maybe it's a bit too long? Regardless, I'm still really enjoying it, and can't wait to die many many many more times this weekend!
