@Adol_Xin Thanks! I wouldn't worry about that if I were you - I'm pretty bad at video games all things considered, I've played them for most of my life but have never been very good at them! I found dark souls was very good at encouraging you to persevere though, and every victory against a boss fight feels unbelievably satisfying. You're constantly getting better at the game, and it is a much more manageable game than a lot of people would have you believe! It's very difficult, but you do always feel like you can overcome it. I would strongly recommend you give it a try!

I managed to finish Dark Souls last night! My first From Software game, and I loved everything about it, from the world design to the incredible combat. Am currently looking at potentially get another From Software game now, maybe Bloodborne or Sekiro, but haven't decided yet!

Apart from that, I'll be continuing my second playthrough of Fire Emblem Three Houses, which is still standing strong as my favourite strategy game

I decided to get back to Dark Souls this weekend, since I took a break from it when I was writing my dissertation. I was in Anor Londo, and FINALLY got past those blasted archers, and everything was starting to look up. Unfortunately I'm now stuck on Ornstein and Smough as they perpetually rip my a new one. Every time I don't think the game could get any harder it finds a way to!

Switching between Link's Awakening and Steinsgate Elite - Steinsgate is a bit of a slog at the moment but I've been told it picks up so am persevering there, but Link's Awakening is brilliant! It's one of the few zelda games I've never played through before, and it's filled with tons of charm. Easily my favourite 2D zelda so far!

I'm playing Metroid Prime for the first time, and it's a great game. My only problems have been that it's frustratingly obtuse where to go at times, even more so than other metroidvanias I've played, and the lack of a fast travel system leads to some of the slowest backtracking ever. That said, I'm still really enjoying it!

I've also just started playing Steinsgate Elite, which I know next to nothing about, but it's been a while since I've played a visual novel so thought it might be worth a try

Re: Guide: Short PS4 Games

BranJ0

Really great idea for a list! I don't have a ton of time to play games anymore, so I only play one long game per year now, and so playing more shorter games like these allows me to experience lots of different games as opposed to 100 hours of just one

I'm having a love hate relationship with Dark Souls. I've just got to the Capra Demon, and have loved parts of the game a lot. But some things, like checkpoints not being near bosses, are really starting to grate, and the game doesn't explain enough of its insanely complex mechanics for my liking. I'm also dying. A LOT. But I am making sure but steady progress!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 313

I started playing Dark Souls for the first time a few days ago and people were not lying - this game is kicking my ass. I've just beaten the Taurus Demon and reached the Undead Parish after a good 7 hours, so at this rate I don't think I'm ever going to beat this game! I'm enjoying it when it's not insanely frustrating though!

Re: Feature: The Best PS4 Music of January 2020

BranJ0

Journey to the Savage Planet and Patapon 2 don't sound like anything special to me, but that Kentucky Route Zero track was excellent, and your talk about a scene fuelled almost entirely by music really intrigues me. I might have to pick that one up

Re: Guide: Persona 5 Royal New Changes - All Differences Compared to Persona 5

BranJ0

I'm interested but cautious. I loved the original Persona 5, but its biggest issue is its pacing, particularly the build-up to and including the fifth palace. Unless that content is streamlined, I'll just find any of these new additions to bloat the game even more unnecessarily. But I'm happy to be proven wrong, I'm just going to wait for reviews first!

I started Luigi's Mansion 3 this week, and it's a thoroughly enjoyable game, so I'll be continuing with that. Each floor in the mansion is brimming with originality, and whilst the game isn't especially difficult, it's just so much fun. I might play a bit more Baba is You as well, but I've been stuck on a puzzle for ages and it's driving me mad, and I refuse to look up the solution online!

Re: Critically Acclaimed Metroidvania Axiom Verge Secures 2020 Sequel

BranJ0

I really enjoyed Axiom Verge, but I unfortunately played it just before I played Hollow Knight, so I always completely forget it exists when compared to the best metroidvania I've ever played and one of my favourite games of all time. It's a shame though cause I did like it, and whilst it had a few problems in terms of its map design, I'm very much looking forward to this!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 288

I finished both Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Spider-Man this week both of which were incredible, and I would be shocked if Fire Emblem isn't my game of the year by the end of 2019. But now I'm not particularly sure what to start playing, I might give Danganronpa a go since I love Ace Attorney so much and need to try some more visual novels!

Re: Poll: Are You a Big Borderlands Fan, and Are You Hyped for Borderlands 3?

BranJ0

I've never played a proper Borderlands game, but I played Tales from the Borderlands a couple of years ago and absolutely adored it; it's probably my favourite Telltale game. The return of some of the characters from that game may be enough to sway me, but I need to do more research into what the gameplay of the mainline games is

Re: Hands On: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy Has No Objections from Us So Far

BranJ0

@nessisonett Oh no, not sacrilegious at all, I really enjoy all of them! Apollo Justice is probably my least favourite, but that's just because the only "amazing" case for me is the very first one, which really raises the bar for the rest of the game too high. I'm a pretty big Dual Destinies supporter though - it has its flaws, and I feel like Spirit of Justice improves upon every single one of these criticisms, but it's still an incredibly fun game, and looking back I might even prefer it to the first game

Re: Hands On: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy Has No Objections from Us So Far

BranJ0

@Ralizah Yeah I pretty much agree with all of that! I always felt like Apollo got a bit shafted in Dual Destinies to make way for Phoenix again, who didn't really need the spotlight, so I was so glad to see really take centre stage in Spirit of Justice. I haven't actually played the DLC case yet, and whilst I would say "it's DLC, it doesn't count as part of the main game", Dual Destinies' DLC is my second favourite case in that game and elevated it a lot for me. Spirit of Justice's fourth case doesn't actively offend me either, it's just a bit forgetful, which is fine considering it's so short.

I'm really hoping the next game puts Athena as the main protagonist, she is definitely lacking the most of the three main lawyers now
