I really want to play a good old school RPG, but this unfortunately doesn't seem like it's worth the money. I'll keep on patiently waiting for Octopath Traveler, which looks excellent
I'm still cracking on with Zelda, have just got to my third divine beast, and I absolutely adore the game. The more I play it, the more hooked I get, so who knows how far I'm going to get with it this weekend!
@crimsontadpoles Ahh I'm glad you're enjoying it! As you can probably tell from my avatar, I'm a massive fan of Ace Attorney (it's almost certainly my favourite video game series), and if you enjoy that one, be sure to play all the others, many of the other games are better than the first one in my opinion!
@crimsontadpoles Ooh, how are you enjoying Ace Attorney? I'll be playing Zelda Breath of the Wild when I've got a spare moment this weekend, which is getting progressively more addictive the more I play it
@Th3solution Yeah, quite a lot of these nominations seem very strange, I can't really understand how they explain some of their choices, with even games like Persona 5 for art direction missing out in some categories that they have been universally praised for
Ooh very interesting choices, there's quite a broad range of games here, so this should be a good watch. As a side note, the fact that Nier isn't even nominated for Original Musical Composition is a crime.
@LieutenantFatman Yeah, all of the problems in reviews once the full game launched were my major issues with the beta, so I never looked back after deleting that beta!
I was really hyped for the first Star Wars Battlefront because of how much I'd heard the originals be praised, but the beta bored me to tears, and I just didn't touch it after that
@kyleforrester87 But it did end up as #5 in their reader vote, so at least it got some appreciation! Eurogamer's staff list was very weird overall though, Persona 5 and Horizon were both shockingly low as well, both below Mass Effect: Andromeda, so I took their entire list with a pinch of salt...
Persona 5, Nier: Automata and Uncharted. If I were to say a favourite, it'd be Nier without a doubt (even though Persona 5 is pretty incredible in my opinion). I've just never played a game that I've enjoyed so much, with such perfect soundtrack, gameplay, and a story that sticks with you and never leaves you. It's excellent!
@DrClayman I've surprisingly seen it on quite a few game of the year lists - perhaps not as high as it deserves, but still present. I do agree though, I'd like it to have even more recognition than it's getting, but at the end of the day I think it's already far exceeded many people's expectations for how well it's sold and been received due to how niche it is
Absolutely phenomenal game, and I really hope it ends up on Push Square's top games of 2017, because it fully deserves it in my opinion. As many people as possible should play this game!
@AllTheReddist If it's just the fact that you don't think the choices matter that's putting you off, I'd recommend playing Tales From the Borderlands, which is by far and away Telltale's best game in my opinion. The choices don't matter in the most catastrophic way, but I really enjoyed the way they were implemented in the final episode. Give it a go if you've ever got the chance!
Persona 5, just completed the fourth palace and this game just keeps on getting better and better the more I play it, I'm struggling to put it down! I'm probably just past the halfway mark I reckon, so I've still got a considerable amount left, I just hope the rest of the game lives up to the benchmark the first half has set it
It'll be interesting to see how similar this is to the list the forum voted for a couple of weeks ago. I can't see it being radically different, although there may be a few surprises
I started Persona 5 late in the summer, but then went to uni and so haven't played any since, so I'm looking forward to playing a lot more of that to round off this year, but likely won't finish it!
The thing is, for me, this year had Nier:Automata and Persona 5, and I just don't think anything next year, even TLOU 2 and Spider man, can top that for me
@johnny30 I personally wouldn't say the length of the game is that important though. Games such as Inside or Undertale are only about 5 or so hours, but are some of the best games I've ever played. If the game doesn't need to be long, then it really shouldn't be, since a game dragging on is way worse than a game that knows when to stop and to give a proper ending.
When I can find the time, Majora's Mask 3D. I've never played the original before, so I'm experiencing the game for the first time. I've just completed the second dungeon, and if it keeps up this quality, it may be my favourite Zelda game, it's just so good!
@gbanas92 I was exactly the same! Megovania was the first track I heard, and as soon as I listened to it I knew I had to experience the whole game!
Also, just in general, I wanted to say that I'm loving these articles, they really highlight the importance of music in video games, which I don't feel gets recognised as much as it should. Just an idea, but near the end of the year, it might be nice to do a top 10 soundtracks of the year, similar to your top 10 games of the year, especially considering the quality of music this year with games such as persona 5 and nier automata
I've been listening to Undertale's music ever since I first played it a year and a half ago, and I don't think I'm ever going to stop. The whole soundtrack is just a masterpiece from beginning to end, and is one of my favourite video game soundtracks
I started playing persona 5 a couple of weeks ago, and now I've finished the first palace it has completely and utterly sucked me in. I'll nowhere near finish it before uni next week, but I'm going to enjoy it as much as I can until then!
@Ralizah I love games such as these, that twist the conventions of what you're expecting - they make for some of the most memorable gaming experiences in my eyes, and Undertale is one of those stand-out experiences I've had with a game
@Ralizah Yep, that's the way I'd recommend. For anyone wondering, definitely do a normal playthrough first, and find your own footing and play it how you like, and then do a complete pacifist to get what is arguably the "true" ending, and then do a genocide run. I'd say only after all three can you say you've played Undertale
I've only recently finished this game, but it is truly incredible. I may still be buzzing from all the revelations, but it is likely one of my favourite games of all time. Everything about it is excellent. If anyone is considering playing it, I would highly recommend you take the plunge - you will not be disappointed by one of the best video game stories I have ever played.
@get2sammyb Ahh well that's fair enough, it was probably one of the busiest times in push square history around then! And that seems fair enough, although I reckon the poor performance would drive me absolutely insane in a game like this, so I think I'll have to pass. Thanks!
As far as I can see, you started reviewing season 1 of batman, but stopped after just two episodes. Just wondering, why was this? I only really tend to use your reviews when considering buying a game, and season 1 piqued my interest, but because the reviews suddenly disappeared I didn't want to take the risk
@Fooligan Ah okay, thanks, I'm more intrigued now than I was before. I was a bit put out because, aside from the last quarter, I found most of 9S' playthrough to be merely okay, mainly because it just felt like I was retreading old ground. So I was mainly wondering if it all started picking up again, and by the sounds of it, it does!
The only tellrale games I've played are walking dead season 2, and I've got one episode left to go of tales from the borderlands. I felt that walking dead had some poor moments, especially where your choices didn't really matter, and always ended up with big consequences, or the plot stagnated, but tales from the borderlands has been one of my favorite games I've played this year. It's just so fun, with great humour, action, characters, plot, and I do hope my choices will pay off in the end. I'm getting the feeling most telltale games aren't like that though, even though tales from the borderlands is convincing me to try almost all of telltale's library of games
I'm playing Nier Automata, I think I'm at the end of the first playthrough and I'm absolutely loving it, and Tales from the Borderlands, where I'm just about to start episode 4
@Gold_Ranger @Slime_Rothstein If you really think that most indie games are "crap", then you should probably pay more attention to the indie scene. Games such as Shovel Knight, Undertale, Superhot, Stardrew Valley, Limbo, Inside, Hyper Light Drifter, Gone Home, Axiom Verge, Rime, Super Meat Boy, and the Binding of Isaac are all games that many would consider as some of the best and most innovative games over the past few years. Yes, there are some bad indie games, as there are some bad games made by other companies, but to call all indie games "crap" is really doing injustice to some of the best games around, since whilst they might not have realistic graphics, many do still look very good with interesting art styles, and the gameplay, story and music is some of the best you'll find.
@get2sammyb For me, the thing is that I can't justify a purchase of PSVR if all I'm going to get is lots of "experiences". I get that it's a wonderful step forward in gaming, but no one is going to take it seriously unless it steps up to deliver some big high quality games, since otherwise it'll likely just fall into the category of being another gimmick. I really don't want that to happen, but until I see a few big games that excite me, I can't bring myself to buy something that is the same price as a home console, but I'm going to get far less from it
I finished Rise of the Tomb Raider the other day, and am now going to finish up Fire Emblem Fates Revelation before going out to buy Persona 5 as my first venture into the persona series!
Rise of the tomb raider, and it's absolutely brilliant. It has far and away overtaken Uncharted 4 as my favourite action game, something which I didn't even think would be possible
@MoorePs4 I suppose it would be possible to put those camera pictures onto a USB stick, put it in the PS4, view them, and then take a screenshot of the photo that you want. It's a bit of a hassle, by that should work I think!
As an ace attorney fan, I've always been interested in the zero escape and daganronpa games, but never played them, so I'm incredibly excited to get the chance with both of them this month!
