It’s basically one of the most popular games in the world right now. More people played it on PS5 than FF Rebirth during the release for Rebirth. Was the 5th most played game on Steam yesterday, behind 4 free to play games.
22m is not even semi-popular. They’re never going to make a game as popular as World of Warcraft so they should probably just give up, go get an office job.
@Nyne11Tyme Sony didn’t just suddenly decide to make a deal for this game. They own the IP in totality, they have been working with Arrowhead on this franchise for like 10+ years straight. They supported the game through a very very long development cycle as Arrowhead went from a 20 man studio to one that’s ~100 people.
In the UK it spent the whole weekend ahead of FF7 Rebirth on the PSN “Top 10 games in your country”. On PS time tracker which has a sample of about 10k it had roughly twice as many players as FF7. This data doesn’t account for FF’s popularity in Japan but thats kinda insane that it beat FF7 Rebirth in its opening weekend in the west.
I suspect it’s going to push close to 20m units this year and be one of the absolute sensations of the decade.
Steam sales alone are estimated to be anywhere between 3.5M(playtracker) to 6.7m(VG Insights).already and it’s still number 1 in global top sellers.
Resident Evil 2 Remake sold 13.6 million and the franchise itself in total is in the billions
Billions?? You can go onto Capcom website for up to date financial information you don’t need to make it up.
Resident Evil franchise has sold 154m units from over 170 SKU’s (30 individual titles including 10 mainline titles and 4 Remakes)and over a period of 28 years.
The best selling Resident evil game sold slightly more than half of Horizon: Zero Dawn while being available on more platforms.
The discs will already be at retail but surely they can distribute a bunch of stickers to put on each box at retail level, one that simply states the discs are mislabelled.
Is Sony bowing to the shareholders rather than being “For the Players”?
The directors of the company are legally bound by a fiduciary duty to only take actions that are to the benefit of the shareholders. The shareholders literally own the company, the directors are their agents as per the legal definition.
So yes, they are taking actions to maximise the wealth of the owners. It would actually be illegal for them to do otherwise. This applies to all companies in existence. This is how company law works.
People need to stop being so ignorant(naive). Only then can proper discussion follow.
For Helldivers 2 the physical sales are probably only about 10-20% of overall sales. Playerbase sampling and Steam estimates puts the overall worldwide sales in the 6-8M range already.
@__jamiie Referring to something you’ve never played as average because it contains elements you don’t like is nonsense.Thats like saying you dont like turn based combat so BG3 is average based on facts I read.
Don’t be salty because Xbox is your preferred console and you don’t get to play it yet. Be a big boy.
It should also be noted that they didn’t have to take on a big publishing deal or deal with shareholders because they got private investment from the Chinese Comunist Party(Tencent). So if you’re not getting an offer from the CCP or Saudi’s you’re probably just screwed. Good luck.
@ZhuckelDror This will be a new game for the 100m+ people that didn't have access to it before. It also only sold like 1.3m copies on the Switch, and sales fell off a cliff after week 1, so there's a massive audience for this.
It's been reported to be extremely worse in the PS5 side
It’s much easier to get into the game on PS5, and you can even skip the queue completely using some functions(you probably shouldn’t though as server limits exist for a reason)
@RawnDawn The problem seems to be coding bottlenecks, or something similar, and not availability of actual server space.Theoretically they should be able to expand physical server capacity easily.
It could probably do about 500k on Steam today but Server space is capped at 450k across steam and PS5 unfortunately since the servers can’t currently cope with more people.
Anyone playing today will be doing a lot of queuing
Currently heading towards a peak of 400k today if it doesn’t hit server problems(again).
333k right now which means it’s now beaten Starfields peak user count and about to eclipse Monster Hunter:World in a few minutes. Almost into the top 10 for paid premium games of all-time.
@TrickyDicky99 Thats a made up stat, only Sony first party games and a few select others will be 50/50 or lower in 2023+. That’s because they have the broadest appeal and they’re PS only. AWII was also on PC which is 100% digital and Xbox which is 90% digital. PS is not remedy’s main system, control was the first remedy game released day one on a PS in the companies history. Alan Wake was an Xbox/Pc exclusive for like 10 years.
Remedy literally released a breakdown for Control and it was 60% digital in 2019 and 90% digital from 2020 onwards(2020 was Controls most successful year by revenue and units sold).
@TrickyDicky99 Control Was a Goty Contender, was nominated at the Game awards, won IGN game of the year etc. and it had sold around 800k copies in the same time period and that’s with a physical release.
Not all games make tons of money. The best selling Yakuza game ever is like 2m copies lifetime.
@Fyz306903 On epic store is nets 100%, on PSN and Xbox it nets 70%.
Physical sales net roughly 50% of the price. This net revenue will also need to offset additional costs associated with physical production and distribution that won’t be captured accurately in the per unit cost.
@TrickyDicky99 Did you misunderstand the part where it sold 1.3M units at a much faster rate than any other game they’ve made(the other games all having physical and also netting less revenue per sale)? It will make a profit within one year of release and it will also get $10m+ subscription service deals. It will easily be their most profitable game yet in the long term.
It should be noted that FromSoft had always owned the trademark for Elden Ring for every territory in the world except North America. The Canadian Trademark had already lapsed and been re-registered by FromSoft over a year ago, meaning the USA trademark was the last one. Not sure exactly why the#e we’re registered to Bandai Namco when Kadokawa had always implied FromSoft owned the IP.
I wonder if the correlation between people who think she looks like a man and people who have never touched a woman is 100% or maybe just something like 99.7%.
@Northern_munkey The global campaign will run for a specified period of time and then be reset. I believe the first one is only like 1 week unless I misunderstood.
It's being published by Sony so they consider it first-party.
It’s a game published by Sony on a Sony owned platform, that’s literally the definition of a First Party product.
Of course people are obsessed with ownership of the labour that makes products these days. Work with a a studio, that you don’t own, for years to finance and develop a game “That’s not first party”. Buy a studio and put your name on the box of a game that you had no involvement with “Yes, that’s a first party game, absolutely chief”
Bizarrely a ton of Nintendo games wouldn’t count as first party under this definition: Smash Brothers, Pokemon, Kirby, Metroid etc. They’re all made by studios not owned by Nintendo. Also, Microsoft Flight Simulator ironically.
I’m somewhat surprised that Ghost of Tsushima 2 is not even internally targeting a release in this period as March 2025 will be almost 5 years since the first game released.
Ragnarok took 4.5 years and Forbidden West took 5 years and both of those were delayed by about a year.
@Porco the key thing here is that people are offended because the Director of this game was specifically glorifying and hailing a historical figure as a hero. This person didn’t specifically do anything relating to the invasion of Korea but he was a driver of the mentality of the new state, and creator of the philosophy of the state.
The game director specifically says in a glorifying fashion “he wasn’t just a philosopher, he insisted on the importance of taking action” while showing himself taking pictures of his statue and shrines dedicated to him. However, those “actions” that he put importance on was aggressive nationalism, the aggressive actions that would lead later to abhorrent crimes committed against other states. This is a pretty awkward area. Japan has never acknowledged that any of their actions were wrong so, these people are still hailed as heroes.
As usual, most people don’t really understand the situation or comprehend the level of animosity that is felt within Korea towards Japan for what they did. Another thing people need to understand is that Japan never apologised or fully acknowledged these events.
Glorifying important people that drove this era would be similar to a Korean person as glorifying people from the Nazi regime to a Jew.The acts committed upon the Korean population(specifically women)were absolutely abhorrent.
Hit 196k peak user count on Steam yesterday, still having server issues though and had to rollback a PC patch due to performance degradation. Hopefully it will be relatively stable and matchmaking is fixed before the weekend.
The sales estimate was from Saturday and it appears that Sunday was its biggest day by far yet.
They hit the server cap of 250k on Sunday and managed to increase to 360k and hit it in 5.5 minutes which is the fastest possible time as connections were limited to 20k per minute.
It looks like an absolute ton of people bought it on PS5 on Sunday as it went from not hitting its 250k server limit on Saturday to easily hitting 360k on Sunday despite Steam numbers being similar and actually lower at times due to the server cap being hit.
PS5 sold 50m by the week ending 9th of December. By the 31st of December it would have sold easily 2m+ more, probably closer to 3M(these are the busiest weeks of the year) The VGchartz estimate has PS5 at over 53m by end of December for what that’s worth.
It’s going to hit close to 200k concurrent users tonight and word of mouth is extremely positive. Steam review score is going up quickly and will be in the “Very positive”range soon.
@UltimateOtaku91 the warbonds(bqttlepass) is permanent, it doesn't rotate out. Everything unlockable is unlocked with currency you get just from playing the game. Re: Without a Physical PS5 Release, Alan Wake 2 Is Still Remedy's Fastest Selling Game
@TrickyDicky99 Here’s the accounting data from Sony for the last financial year ending March 2023:
Revenue(millions of yen):
Physical games - 193,439
Digital games - 660,932
Digital add-on content - 862,113
PS Plus - 464, 676
Again, PS even has more physical sales than Xbox, and PC is digital only.
