Re: Final Fantasy XV Will Have Even More DLC Outside of the Season Pass

Drawfull

@rjejr I still have my pre-order and I think I'll keep it. But honestly it looks poor. The 50 minute vid from last week at least showed some new stuff (I think waitish mode will make me enjoy it more), but the VII Remake... Ugh, I'm dreading it. Still that's been discussed to death. XII HD looks OK but then they've tweaked the RNG. I liked the 1:1000 Zodiac Spear (not so much the 1:10000 stuff in IZJS), cos I like the JRPG grind, but. Meh. They know I'll buy 'em all.

Also via kotetsu he's said that the second half of the game is linear (I assume using the same argument that 13 did to keep the story on pace). I enjoyed 13, really, but fml.

For me, 12 is still the best balance. Yes a lot of the early stuff was possible cos of Dustia, but at least we could play the way we wanted from the get go. How hard can it be?!

Re: Review: Assetto Corsa (PS4)

Drawfull

@kyleforrester87 Yes, it is a shame. I will go on the record and say that this is my go-to English PS4 site, and normally I have very few qualms about any of the content.

I've been playing the game for the past half an hour or so and have re-read the review. Whilst it is finicky on a DS4, with assists on it's eminently playable and I would say, albeit at a very early point with the game, not too difficult.

Whilst the review mentions the poor scenery vs high-spec car models, I'm getting a lot of screen tear and shimmering, especially during replays which isn't great (and I can't seem to find a way to turn off the racing line during replays) so that's something else against I guess. But that said I still think 5, without a wheel is overly-harsh, more so since it nearly only got 4...

Anyway, I need to give it more than 30 minutes and get my wheel hooked up, but for £40 it seems OK to me.

Re: Review: Assetto Corsa (PS4)

Drawfull

@solocapers Exactly. The only three negative reviews as of writing that are up on Metacritic have not used a wheel in their review (despite not explicitly saying so, the PSLS one has a video of him playing, it's definitely not a wheel). ALL other reviews (which are 70% and up) mention that the game really needs a wheel to be appreciated. (EDIT, the godisageek review used a wheel, but moaned about the lack of adjustment yet other reviews said the features were comprehensive. I'm downloading it now anyway...)

That said, on AC's own site, it says that the console releases have been tweaked for pad use.

Re: Review: Assetto Corsa (PS4)

Drawfull

It's all going round in circles a little, but I found this (roughly-translated) quote in hobbyconsolas review interesting:

"Assetto Corsa is a very particular game. You can play it with a controller, as you would expect, but to really enjoy it, it is almost mandatory to play using a wheel with force feedback. This may seem a fantasy - as I myself thought when reading user's PC reviews - but it's a reality"

They gave it 90/100.

Edit: It goes on to say that other titles such as F12016 and Project CARS both play fine with a controller, but in AC, the balance is very much in favour of a wheel.

Re: Review: Assetto Corsa (PS4)

Drawfull

@misterdog Totally agreed, wtf is a reviewer doing reviewing a racing game without the optimum controls? The review should have a caveat for a pad, not the other way around.

Re: Battlezone Demonstrates Yet Again Why It's a PlayStation VR Must Own

Drawfull

I didn't realise that this was based on the original 1980(ish) game that I've long since got rid of. Those vectors at the beginning bring back so many memories: when I was a kid, I didn't appreciate the game at all (I kinda started around '83), but I love it now. Can't wait for this - or PSVR in general. Only negative is I recently remade my preorder (after cancelling it), so now Amazon is giving an October 31 delivery date

Re: Talking Point: What September PlayStation Plus Games Do You Want?

Drawfull

@Fight_Teza_Fight I'd definitely be up for D3 - I keep missing it on sale; the last time, I went to buy it a day late.

Wouldn't mind a digital version of FFXIII or XIII-2 for PS3, but I think that's unlikely, especially since the former has been removed from PS Now. Ni No Kuni WotWW would be decent, though I have it anyway.

For PS4, I really don't know. I tend to buy most AAAs at launch, so it's of no value to me to get them two months later for nowt. The Order would be nice (for me), and maybe if they're feeling really generous, F1 2016 since I'm not paying 55 quid digital.

Re: Review: No Man's Sky (PS4)

Drawfull

Great review, sums it up perfectly. I was trying to explain it to a mate yesterday and wrote pretty much what you have, and everyone else that likes it and hates it at the same time.

I don't think I helped his purchase choice. I love it. I hate it. And I can't stop playing it.

Re: Poll: It's Time to Have Your Say on No Man's Sky

Drawfull

Am really loving it, just over a round ten hours. Had a few annoying crashes but can see why so many won't like it. It just inspires wonder, and the 'procedural' soundtrack (reminds of the lucasarts system in Monkey Island 2), is excellent.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Ditch PS3, Vita Support for PlayStation Plus?

Drawfull

It wouldn't make a difference to the stuff we're getting for PS4. What might be workable with so many subscribers is to offer a full AAA game but for only a limited period (say, a week) after which if you want to continue playing you buy at a heavily discounted (but more than 5.99) price alongside a new Indie title.

Or, to avoid one developer getting spanked by 20 million subscribers offer any full PS4 title from say 6 months ago and back for the 5.99 and let the user decide. That'd limit the exposure to the devs.

Re: Sonic Mania Is the PS4 Sequel You've Spent Your Adult Life Yearning For

Drawfull

@naruball I get you, but you have to factor in the average age of current gamers (I'm making a massive assumption that you're at the younger end of the spectrum). It's 31 FWIW, and a lot of us (although I have ten years on that) do enjoy retro stuff cos it's what we grew up with.

That said, I think people get hung up on graphics. The reason retro games (IMO) were so good, was because they control so well and Sonic needs to be included in that. Too many modern games feel mushy (whilst still being good games) whereas I feel that older games had much more focus on playability from a control POV due to their arcade roots/influence. Rambling, tired, sorry.

Re: Talking Point: Will No Man's Sky Live Up to the Hype on PS4?

Drawfull

I've had it on pre-order for a couple of months if that, having been sucked in, and while I don't plan on cancelling that pre-order, the more I see of it, the more I feel that it hasn't really moved on from what we first saw.

I'm bothered about the file size - 6Gb - because there's only so much procedural generation can do. Surely you need textures for the creatures you encounter and so on? Maybe they're RNGd too. Sounds the creatures make, both from they're mouths and movement etc . Just seems a bit lightweight to me.

As I'm typing, sham8nix's post appeared. Can you elaborate on what the game you've been waiting for since you started playing? Elite seemed to have more depth than this, and it's probably over 30 years old (I think it was 85, 6) but I've slept since...
