Re: The Last of Us HBO Pulls in 4.7 Million Viewers, Second Biggest Debut Since 2010

@Daleaf I watched the first five episodes back to back and the last five episodes (after the time jump) back to back and I’m glad I watched it that way, rather than week by week. I was completely absorbed by it.

I enjoyed the slow burn as you witness this dysfunctional family tear itself apart. You can see where the story is heading and you know there will be bloodshed but you still hope everyone will work it out and get along. But by the end of the season you realise there’s no stopping what’s about to happen and all hell is going to break loose. Season 2 is going to be insane. Already counting down the days haha

I agree with @LN78 Paddy Considine gave a masterclass performance as an ailing King Viserys. Highlight of the season for me. He deserves to win all the awards for that performance. Ramin Djawadi is also on top form as usual with an excellent score. One of his best imo.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite God of War Ragnarok Weapon?

ItsBritneyB_tch

I liked them all honesty. It was great how ice enemies were weaker against the Chaos Blades, fire enemies were weaker against the Leviathan Axe. It encouraged you to switch things up. Once I got the spear though, it became my main weapon of choice - I loved it.

I did go through a short phase (early game) where I enjoyed Atreus’ Bow too but once Kratos’ weapons were upgraded to a certain level (and you unlocked a few special moves), Kratos was an unstoppable beast and switching back to Atreus didn’t feel as good as playing Karen.

Elden Ring may be excellent but it doesn’t appeal to everyone. I think people just voted for what they played (and liked). But seriously, more of ya’ll need to check out Ghostwire Tokyo because it’s really fun. It reminded me a lot of the early inFamous games but with a supernatural twist. Just wandering the deserted streets with the rain falling was so eerie and tense. Not to mention the abandoned hospital and residential buildings to explore. Amazing atmosphere from start to finish. Don’t know why it’s been so slept on.

Re: Game of the Year: #1 - God of War Ragnarok

The thing that connected with me most was the relationship between Kratos and Atreus. It felt so genuine. Kratos wanted Atreus to have a better life and he didn’t want to revert back to being the hate-fueled person he used to be. He wanted to be a better person to set an example for his Son and not to repeat the same mistakes of the past. Atreus meanwhile does what all kids do and sets out to find his own path - even when that means disobeying his Fathers orders. And although they don’t fully agree to begin with, it was touching to see how Atreus still respects his Father and even tries to mimic him. I laughed so hard when Atreus tries to punch open his first chest (Kratos style) and fails lol. It’s the little details like this that raise the game to another level and GOW:R is full of them.

Re: Game of the Year: #2 - Elden Ring

@jrt87 with all due respect, it isn’t enough. Other game studios are going above and beyond what is expected to make their games accessible to everyone. FromSoftware games are known for their difficulty and Elden Ring is no exception. They need to do better.

Re: Game of the Year: #2 - Elden Ring

ItsBritneyB_tch

@Max_the_German I disagree in this instance. Elden Ring would be exactly the same experience on ‘classic difficulty’ (for those who want a challenge) but adding an ‘easy’ mode wouldn’t change anything. There’s an elitist attitude to FromSoftware games and a game/studio that isn’t willing to embrace people of all abilities shouldn’t be awarded GOTY imo. I’m surprised more hasn’t been made of this issue tbh.

Re: Game of the Year: #2 - Elden Ring

ItsBritneyB_tch

@Stonecold I agree, games should be accessible to everyone. The old ‘git gud’ mentality feels so outdated in 2022. Sony studios go the extra mile to make their games accessible for people of all abilities. For all the advancements Elden Ring brought to the open world genre, they are lagging way behind in this area. It would cost them nothing to add difficulty options.

Re: Game of the Year: #3 - Horizon Forbidden West

ItsBritneyB_tch

@bozz the first game was way more grounded though - it was well-written sci-fi. The story in Forbidden West could have worked but it was badly written. The bad guys are too silly to be taken seriously, like villains from an Austin Powers movie or something, flying around like Avengers in their space suits. I could overlook the super eloquent tribespeople but it reached a point where I just couldn’t take it seriously anymore. It jumped the shark and they can’t undo it.

Re: Game of the Year: #3 - Horizon Forbidden West

ItsBritneyB_tch

@LN78 it just didn’t have anything interesting to say sadly (and went in a ridiculously absurd direction with the story), which is why it’s been largely overlooked at the game awards this year. Story is so important in a game like this, especially when the story in the first game was so good. Expectations were high.

Guerrilla are a very talented studio but they just can’t undo those terrible story decisions in the next game - they’re stuck with them now - and this instantly kills any hype I have for a third game. It’s a real shame honestly.

@Ichiban it was the story that smashed expectations - so many twists and turns and the side content adds even more layers of richness to the world. The gameplay was mostly as expected but also improved/refined. It could have failed to live up to expectations (like Horizon Forbidden West did for me) but it delivered more than I could have hoped. I think Uncharted 2 was the last game to achieve this feat (being better in every way to the first game).

Ghostwire Tokyo by a mile. That game had atmosphere in spades. One of my favourite games of 2022.

I wanted to like Dying Light 2 but it was so bad. It’s like they binned everything great about the first game, when they should have built on it. How not to do a sequel.

Edit: Horizon had huge expectations, which it didn’t meet and I haven’t played Elden Ring (not my kind of game).

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5, PS4 RPG of 2022

ItsBritneyB_tch

@middyone yeah I won’t spoil anything. It is a good game - I got the platinum so I did enjoy it. But it just wasn’t where I wanted the story to go. It just becomes so fantastical that it pulled me out of the game. I would have preferred it if they stayed faithful to the tone of the first game. It just didn’t feel like a real world with real people, if that makes sense? It needed to be darker/grittier but they went in the opposite direction. Early human civilisations were brutal but we didn’t see anything like that in the game - it just felt hollow.

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5, PS4 RPG of 2022

ItsBritneyB_tch

@middyone I know but the first game was way more grounded and plausible. Forbidden West suddenly had everyone talking like college graduates and people flying around like super heroes. I liked the game overall but the dialogue and story were atrocious compared to the first game.

Re: Game of the Year: Robert's Top 5 PS5, PS4 Games of 2022

ItsBritneyB_tch

Everyone’s top 5 GOTY list will be different but I thought the games had to be released in the current year? I’ve played loads of games this year that were released in previous years and my top 5 would look very different if I chose games that I played this year (that were released in 2020/2021).

I need to revisit CP2077 though because I had the invisible man glitch, where I couldn’t see the skin of my character, just his empty clothes moving around 😂

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Xmas 2022 Edition

ItsBritneyB_tch

I bought a few games to keep me occupied this Christmas (Evil West, The Callisto Protocol, Chorus and Destroy All Humans 2) and never in a million years did I expect Chorus to be the game that took the crown. I’m having such a blast with it. It reminds me a little bit of Starlink Battle for Atlas in some ways but is fully space combat (you don’t visit any planets like you do in Starlink). It’s so good.

Every once in a while a game comes out of nowhere and takes you by surprise - that game for me this year is Chorus.

Merry Christmas 😁

Re: Game of the Year: #9 - The Last of Us: Part I

ItsBritneyB_tch

@somnambulance I’m not sure I can agree with that. The price at release was absolutely ridiculous but it’s such a huge improvement over the original PS3 version. New gamers who were too young to play the original might see this remake and decide to give it a try, when they might not have bothered with the PS3/PS4 versions - that’s a good thing imo. And I’m so glad they didn’t make any drastic changes to the original game’s story or level design because you really can’t improve on perfection.
