Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 491

Played a couple of hours of Atlas Fallen and I like it. The first 20-30 minutes of the game is pretty bad but once you get to the first open world area it really shines.

Really enjoying the combat/exploration and I feel like I’m getting to grips with all the different upgrades. Think I’m going to enjoy this game but I have a soft spot for AA games.

This is great - I’ll definitely use this option.

I wonder how they’ll approach the LGBT representation in this one? The last few AC games have gone big on the LGBT representation but the Middle East is hardly a haven for LGBT people.

As a gay person myself I’ve always found this aspect of AC unrealistic because the fear of persecution and death would have been very real back then (and still is today in most Middle Eastern countries, sadly).

It will be interesting to see what they do.

Loved this game. I tried it with PS+ and didn’t expect to play more than a few levels but ended up getting the platinum. Very clever level design which makes you think without being frustrating. I found it quite calming and the soundtrack was hypnotic. The game does a great job of introducing new gameplay elements so it never feels overwhelming or samey. Looking forward to seeing what comes next from this studio.

I know digital software sales are huge but doesn’t the disc version ps5 outsell the digital only version by a wide margin?

Not a fan of the redesign (if real) or the original design of the ps5. It’s the most hideous PlayStation console imo but I do still love my ps5 (and the Dualsense).

I thought I was going to love this game but I didn’t enjoy it at all. The enemies being bullet sponges even on ‘easy’ mode was really annoying. Plus the slow-crawling through vents and slowly squeezing through narrow spaces. They added all of these unnecessary hurdles to stretch the runtime out but it would have been a much better game without them.

Sorry to hear about the layoffs though.

Re: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Reveals Five Months of Paid DLC, Free Updates

@Lup I found it quite difficult at first because I didn’t know how to play it (and the game doesn’t really explain anything). The prologue boss seemed impossible until someone told me to wear the lightest armour because it makes parrying easier when your weight is rated ‘A’. The good thing is checkpoints are generous. I’d say it’s still pretty challenging but once you get a feel for the game it can be addictive.

I’ve been playing Aliens Dark Descent. The look and atmosphere in the game is excellent but I’m not sure if the gameplay is for me. Also, the checkpoint system is very frustrating. I played 10 minutes of the first mission and had to quit - now I’m back at the command deck skipping through all the post-prologue cutscenes and I have to start the first mission again from scratch. I’ll persevere with it but I’m on the fence at the moment.

I’m slowly working my way through Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and after a shaky start I really like it. I’ve just defeated the fifth boss. It can be frustrating when you die and lose a chunk of progress but something keeps me coming back for more.

Also Gotham Knights. I picked it up cheap in the Prime Day sales and I’m really enjoying it. It’s not the complete dumpster fire I’ve been lead to believe.

I thought it was a poor adaption of the game. It looked the part - the set design was excellent - but they butchered the story and the pacing was all over the place. I didn’t feel anything for any of the characters (except maybe Bill) and the infected were hardly used. A few more episodes would have helped flesh out the story/characters because we lost two full episodes to Bill’s story and Left Behind. But I was pretty underwhelmed with what we actually got. I expected much more from HBO and ND tbh.

Completed the story in Dead Island 2 and actually really enjoyed it. Early in the game I made the mistake of thinking I had to kill every zombie I encountered, which was frustrating because they constantly respawn. Getting a few guns and realising you can just run past the zombies helped me enjoy the second half of the game a lot more.

Re: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Remake Reportedly in Early Development

ItsBritneyB_tch

I always thought AC2 was the best AC (until I played the remaster). It’s still a top entry but the ending is super messy. Removing a full sequence and selling it as dlc never sat right with me. Black Flag is #1 for me now. How they went from those boxy, static ships in AC2/AC Brotherhood to sailing the high seas in AC3 (and more so AC4) was incredible.

I played a few hours of Gollum last week and I’m sad to report… it’s as bad as they say. I was going to try and finish it but I can’t bring myself to play any more. It’s just so dull and left me feeling hollow. I don’t know how those devs feel after working on that game for years - it must have been soul destroying.

I also returned to Dead Island 2 - I only played the intro at launch but I’ve played around 6 hours or so now. I like it but I wish you could stealth kill the zombies when they have their back to you. I can already feel myself getting tired of the same ‘block/strike, block/strike’ mechanic. I also don’t like how the zombies respawn so quickly. I understand them respawning if you leave the map and return, but not when you enter/exit a house and the exact same zombies you just killed are all ‘alive’ again. Very annoying. But I am enjoying it for what it is.

I am so happy with that release date. I love the Avatar movies and this is my most anticipated game this year. But is it just me or are games getting worse and worse looking this gen? Some of the graphics in the trailer looked very last gen to me. I don’t know if I’m expecting too much (or if it’s because I’m currently playing Gollum… 👀) but I can’t remember the last time a game blew me away visually.
