Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Forspoken?

ItsBritneyB_tch

@djlard I wouldn't say it was very like Second Son really. Elements of it remind me of Prince of Persia 2008 (Running up walls, collecting the light-orbs/mana and cleansing the ‘corruption’ from different biomes etc.). The zombie/creature encounters reminded me of Undead Nightmare. There were a few other games that it occasionally reminded me of too but I can’t think of them right now.

It gets an 8 from me. It’s not perfect but I’m enjoying it a lot. It has its quirks but at least it has personality, which is more than I can say about so many other open world games I’ve played in the last five years (which were soulless).

I’ve played around 31 hours so far and I’ve only killed one of the Tanta’s. The side stuff is just so addictive - I’m mostly focusing on completing the challenges to level-up spells.

Having spent some time with the game, it makes the overblown negativity I saw online leading up to the game’s release seem really odd.

@kcarnes9051 I mean, ‘blam blam’ is exactly the kind of world they’re living in. They’re being hunted by FEDRA soldiers (who want to kill them) and Infected (who also want to kill them).

Tess had no idea that the Infected wouldn’t rip her to pieces as soon as they burst through the doors, so having her fumble around with the busted lighter made her seem a bit dim, not heroic. She still blew herself up - so whether she used the grenades or the lighter, the end result was still the same… ‘Blam Blam’. Only, had she used the grenades she would have avoided getting her tonsils tickled by the tendril-tongued terror.

It’s not like Tess was buying Joel and Ellie time to escape by suffering a horrible death (which would have been heroic in the way you suggested). But that wasn’t the case at all, she got violated because the lighter didn’t work - that’s the only reason. And it came across as gratuitous.

@kcarnes9051 You thought the scene in the show was more subtle? Really? It was about as subtle as a man wearing a balaclava in a bank.

That scene would have been so much better if she picked up one of the grenades (the ones she just tipped onto the floor moments earlier) and pulled the pin out with her teeth just as the infected burst through the doors. She could say something cool like, “come get me you Mother F’rs!” Or something. That would have been bad-ass. That would have been ‘Tess’.

The lighter thing though was just daft… conveniently not working to build tension 🙄 The infected… conveniently not attacking to build tension 🙄 It was so poorly done and felt so contrived.

Then we had to endure the gross and exploitative tendril-kiss for shocks. Tess standing there like a lemon whilst some infected guy tongues her (or tendrils her). So degrading for poor Tess.

Well, like I said, it was silly.

Excellent episode, beautifully acted by Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett.

Like everyone else, I was sad that we didn’t get to see the hilarious interactions between Ellie and Bill but we still have the game for that.

This episode really surprised me - when I realised where it was going towards the end I kept thinking, ‘there’s no way Bill would want to carry on after losing the love of his life.’ - I was still thinking the episode would eventually lead to Bill being reunited with Joel (and him meeting Ellie) but the way it played out made more sense when I thought about it afterwards.

But still, even when he drank the wine I was like, ‘it’s not going to work and Bill will wake up the next morning and that’s why he’s so angry and bitter (like he is in the game)’ - even though in the back of my mind I knew Bill was too clever to make a mistake like that. When the episode ended and I thought about it I was actually happy that Bill didn’t become that person. He got to spend his life with the person he loved and they stayed together until the end.

It was nice to see Tess again too, even if only fleetingly. I hope there are more flashbacks with her.

Also, the shot of the net curtains blowing in the breeze (like the title screen in the game) was a great touch. I will forever associate that with Bill and Frank now.

I absolutely loved HZD and Frozen Wilds. HFW didn’t impress me as much in the story department but it was still well made.

But when did Horizon become this mega franchise with multiple games in the works? Feels like they’re throwing major resources at the Horizon Universe but it doesn’t feel earned after the second game was so divisive. It feels kinda forced.

I was hoping Guerrilla might move onto something else but it seems Sony are letting their first party studios work on the same old franchises indefinitely.

Forspoken and enjoying it way more than I thought I would. I had zero expectations for the game, so maybe that’s why?

The opening hours are pretty terrible by todays standards but once you’re allowed to explore the open world it really shines.

I’ve mostly been focusing on the mini challenges and levelling up my spells. Running around the map collecting mana to purchase more spells. Fighting the hordes of breakzombies and the mutant mini bosses is really fun.

After a while, the clunkiness of the dialogue and the awkward pauses give the game its own unique personality, which kinda grows on you. It’s not a perfect game by any means but there’s something interesting and endearing in its imperfection.

I’m really enjoying it. Those opening hours are quite dreadful but once you get to the open world areas it’s really fun. I nearly quit after the first hour but glad I stuck with it. My copy of Dead Space arrived this morning and I haven’t even installed it yet because I’m hooked on this game - so it’s not quite as terrible as the people screaming into the echo chamber would have you believe.

Re: Disney Dreamlight Valley Content Roadmap Teases New Characters, Features

ItsBritneyB_tch

I’m still disappointed that the Toy Story realm was Bonnies room and not Andy’s room. Bonnie didn’t even care about Buzz or Woody - even the narrative in the game is that she went on holiday (and took all the other toys with her) but left Buzz and Woody behind lol they would have been better cared for at Sid’s house 😂

Looking forward to all the new content though - will be a welcome break from farming pumpkins for cash. I’m not crazy excited about the new characters mind you. I’m hoping they add Monsters Inc, Pocahontas and Belle/Beast soon. I thought they might have added Rapunzel by now as her tower is seen in the loading screen.

Re: Side Quests in Hogwarts Legacy Can Be Tackled in Non-Linear Order, Over 100 in Total

@Fight_Teza_Fight I really liked them.

The first two movies feel very different to the movies that came after - they had that Chris Columbus charm. And John Williams’ brilliant score helped raise the movies to another level - his absence was really felt in the later entries. I also preferred the original actor who played Dumbledore in the first two movies (Marcus Aurelius from the Gladiator movie). He played the role as a kind, wise and caring old man. The Dumbledore we got from the third movie onward was quite different - I didn’t like how quick he was to anger or him shouting at Harry and I found his actions/motives to be slightly sinister. I don’t know if that’s book accurate but I wasn’t too keen on the change.

I think the fourth movie was probably my favourite though (although I’ve read it’s the most controversial amongst fans of the books - because they changed so much). But I loved the Hunger Games vibe it had with the different trials and the tri-wizard cup. The final scene with Voldemort was so tense and very well done. Can’t wait to read this book to see how different it is compared to the movie.

The later movies I thought were quite dark and I enjoyed them but I preferred the earlier, lighter movies. Those earlier movies seemed more centred around Hogwarts (which I liked) whereas the later movies seemed to branch out to different locations. One of the main reasons I’m looking forward to the game is so I can explore Hogwarts.

But yes, overall I enjoyed the movies. I’m going to give it my best shot to finish the books before the game arrives 😁

@MFTWrecks I really like Anna Torv - wish she was in the show longer. She was brilliant in Mindhunter.

I just wish they didn’t have the tentacle kiss. The way the infected leaned in and Tess slowly opened her mouth, it was just weird.

The way she chose to sacrifice herself in the game (to buy Joel and Ellie time to escape) was so bad-ass. It was one of the reasons her character stood out and was so memorable for me in the game.

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate The Last of Us - Episode 2?

ItsBritneyB_tch

@Loftimus it’s been 20 years since the infection ravaged the world’s entire population. Humanity has devolved into murderous bandits and insane cults. What is there left to save even if there was a cure? The world as we knew it is already lost and they will never get it back.

Just finished watching movie 4 (Goblet of Fire). Enjoying them so far. Have to say movie 3 has been my least favourite so far (Prisoner of Azkaban) and I heard it was the best from so many people. The film has a completely different feel to the first two movies and Chris Columbus’ directing style was sorely missed. Those first two movies felt so magical. I really liked movie 4 though so looking forward to seeing the rest before the game arrives. I’m tempted to read the books next 🤣

Re: Bruce Straley Wasn't Credited in HBO's The Last of Us, Calls for Unionization

ItsBritneyB_tch

@LN78 it’s a tricky one, Bruce is ‘only’ credited as co-Director of the first game but Neil is credited as the sole Writer (whether he wrote the entire thing himself or not). The show is adapting Neils story.

It reminds me of ‘Tim Burton’s’ A Nightmare Before Christmas, even though the movie was directed by Henry Selick and Tim Burton had very little involvement in the film because he was working on other projects. It’s still seen as being ‘Tim Burton’s’ movie because he wrote the Story.
