That’s sad to hear. I’m not familiar with his other work but I loved Sylens in HZD and was disappointed that his character was sidelined in HFW. I hope he has a bigger part in the DLC.
Looking at the pictures in the review, I really don’t remember much about this game at all - and I’ve completed it about 10 times (years ago). Looking forward to playing the remake and seeing how much comes back to me. It looks great from what I’ve seen of it.
I really enjoyed this game. The atmosphere throughout is incredible. Exploring the the deserted streets in the heavy rain was so eerie and tense (and unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in any other game). It’s one of my favourite games from the last few years.
One thing I did change immediately was the default language (from Japanese to English). I think you could only do this from the main menu - you couldn’t change it from the in-game settings.
It pained me to do it honestly because I love hearing the Japanese-speaking voice actors but I couldn’t concentrate on playing the game and reading the subtitles at the same time - especially when you’re mid-fight. I found it too distracting. The English-speaking voice actors were very good though.
@InvaderJim I’d be very surprised if the actor who played Abbey wanted to come back after the abuse she got from playing the character in the game.
I wonder if the actor will starve themselves for the final chapter, like Christian Bale did in The Machinist? Or if they’ll use makeup and special effects?
@Shions_Glasses there was no urgency or desperation in Pascals face. They made him look like a school shooter or something, rather than a person desperately trying to save someone he loves.
I thought it was just ok overall. There was no chemistry between the lead actors due in part to how short the season was and how rushed the story felt. The characters didn’t feel like real people and the world didn’t feel believable or organic. The lack of infected made it feel like there was no threat. Aside from the flashbacks, I don’t think Ellie and Joel encountered any infected after the episode with Henry. It’s almost as if they have a problem with the infected aspect of the story, like its beneath them or something. The fact that people on set were banned from saying the word ‘zombie’ makes it all seem a little pretentious.
On a positive note, I’m so glad we got the giraffes 😁 and it was great seeing the amazingly talented Ashley Johnson - she knocked it out of the park.
@swagbag7 I’ve come to the conclusion that Pascal is not a great actor after watching this series. The scene at the medical camp was so poorly acted. I cringed through the entire scene.
It’s weird, because before I watched this show I thought Pascal was the strongest casting choice. But having watched all the episodes, I now think he’s the weakest element.
Bella on the other hand was much better than I she would be.
I got the platinum this morning. I didn’t think it was THAT bad really but I did read a guide before I started.
Using ancient magic on all enemies can’t be tracked in-game but I made a point of using it on every enemy I encountered as I played.
The first part of the game can be done in under 2 hours if you skip all cutscenes and dialogue. I actually enjoyed seeing the different Common rooms for each house and there’s a slightly different quest you have to complete for each house early in the game, which was nice to see (I probably wouldn’t have bothered if it wasn’t tied to a trophy).
I did have a few collectible scares towards the end of my 100% playthrough. I missed a few of the Butterfly collectibles (which don’t appear in the collectibles list for each area for some reason) and I thought my revelio pages had glitched because I was using the collectibles guide on the PS5 and it showed I had collected them all but my field guide showed 149/150. Luckily I found a guide online and there was a revelio page near the Quidditch Pitch that I was missing.
Overall not too bad - I’ve definitely had worse platinum experiences in the past. I managed to get the platinum in under 55 hours - no way near as time consuming as the recent Assassins Creed games thank god.
Mainly the new season of Fortnite. I really enjoyed last season but this season is even better. Loving the new POI, Mega City, and the Japanese neo-Tokyo theme. Now would be the perfect time to add the iconic yellow jumpsuit skin from Kill Bill Vol.1 pleeeeease 🙏
@tallythwack oh I know, it’s only a minor ‘complaint’ really. I just think it would have been an easy addition so you don’t have to scan the list of objectives every time.
Also, I just googled the boarded up door in Hogsmead and it seems this is tied to the dlc. I spent far too much time trying to get in that door, trying every spell (from different angles), every potion, sneaking around the corner after casting Evanesco and wasting a few chomping cabbages and mandrakes to boot 😂
I haven’t read through the list of fixes but a few things I would suggest is:
a completion percentage for each area of the map.
the option to purchase collectible maps to show the location of anything you’re missing.
the ability to change seasons (I anticipated not being able to do this and did a lot of the side content in the Winter, which was my favourite season).
I’m sure there are some other minor things that I can’t think of right now. But otherwise, I enjoyed every minute of my 50 hours with this game.
@Korgon I think it’s moreso that Sony acquiring them would be better because Microsoft have a tendency to run their newly acquired studios into the ground. They’re like the smoke monster from Ant Man 3 (Alioth) - anything they touch is dissolved and reduced to nothing 😂 at least with Sony they have a chance.
@RemembersGems her own story is inspirational too. She escaped an abusive, controlling marriage and made something of herself. I imagine that experience is what drives her to stand up for what she believes in to this day.
@PegasusActual93 yes, I thought it was a stunt at first but I don’t believe that anymore. Will’s career is in tatters and Chris didn’t hold back in his recent Netflix special.
I generally don’t like these awards ceremonies. Just an excuse for Hollywood luvvies to pat themselves on the back for playing dress up, whilst being paid millions for the privilege. There are ordinary people (who actually help others) who are more deserving of recognition.
Glad I waited a year before buying my PS5. I feel like there’s been a steady stream of games for me to play since I jumped onboard (and it’s only going to get better from here on out). I’ll probably do this for every new gen going forward.
@BadPlayerOne it’s a show about infected mushroom-zombies wiping out most of the human population - we’re already suspending our disbelief to a greater extent. The reality is, Joel would likely need surgery after sustaining such an injury so we’re already past the point of realism anyway. One way around it would have been for Joel and Ellie to encounter another survivor (with medical training) who patches Joel up. They could even be someone who escaped from David’s group. This survivor could go out hunting for food one day and doesn’t return so Ellie goes out to investigate/hunt and encounters David. She gets the penicillin, gives it Joel and they lay low for a few days before David’s men show up. Ellie is taken prisoner and held for a few more days before Joel comes looking for her. In a sick twist, the meat that they’re serving to the community could turn out to be the guy or girl that patched Joel up. Ellie could find their head on a shelf and their dismembered body hanging from a meat hook or something.
I laughed when Ellie shot the dear with her riffle and David and James find it and are like, ‘What do you think? I don’t see anyone. But they might be nearby.’ Surely they heard the gunshot? The deer couldn’t have travelled too far before bleeding out.
I only wish the season had been given three or four more episodes to allow the plot to develop more. It feels like I’m watching a three hour movie that’s been condensed into a 15 minute summary on YouTube.
The infected have been severely under-utilised too. The whole point of the story is that they’re looking for a cure because the infection has ravaged the global population - yet we’ve barely seen them or how big a threat they pose to the survivors. Why do they even need a cure when encounters with infected are so few and far between?
I hope they include the giraffe scene but I’m worried it won’t feel earned. I’m just not feeling any genuine emotion or character development between Joel and Ellie on the show, sadly.
Hogwarts. I’m close to getting the platinum now and I’ve enjoyed every minute. I know it’s only March but it’s already my pick for GOTY. I’ll be keeping hold of it and will do a full replay of the main story with the different houses eventually.
@rjejr I think it will be a separate mode and zero build only. I heard they ditched the chapter 3 map early because the chapter 4 map has been designed specifically with first person mode in mind. I only really play zero build now but I am looking forward to trying first person. I’ll probably alternate between those two modes when it arrives (if I like it).
The current season has been brilliant. The timed weekly quests was a bit of a blip at the start but that decision has been reversed now thankfully. Really looking forward to the new season and to the Leon & Claire skins being added when the RE4 Remake is released later this month.
This whole exclusive perks business started with MS back in the 360 days. I’ve still never played the exclusive Tomb Raider Underworld dlc because it was never released on PS platforms thanks to MS. It’s hilarious to see them preach about fixing a ‘problem’ that they themselves created.
Looking forward to it but looking at these screenshots, I really don’t remember the game as much as I thought I did. I must have completed the game at least 10 times (years ago) but all that comes to mind is the village at the start and the boss fight on the lake. I vaguely remember the castle and being in a barn whilst fending off the infected. It will be interesting to see how much comes back to me when I play the remake.
I know ‘crunch’ is seen as a bad thing but I really wouldn’t mind working overtime as long as I was being paid for it. I wonder if there are game developers who actually liked the crunch?
@nicc83 I read a story recently about how they banned the cast and people working on set from using the word ‘zombie’ lol. You just weren’t allowed to say it. TLoU is far more sophisticated than those lesser zombie shows, don’t you know 😂
@QualityGeezer the actor who played Jaime Lannister would have been good I think. He was in a film called The Silencing a few years ago and he reminded me so much of Joel from the game.
@OmegaStriver yeah, the show has not lived up to the hype for me, sadly. All those gushing reviews from the critics (‘greatest show ever made!’, ‘better than the game!’ etc.) and the fact that it’s HBO, gave me high expectations. It could have been incredible but it’s really ‘just ok’.
@FinneasGH yeah, I didn’t like either Suicide Squad movie but some people rave about the Gunn directed one. I think he’s really overrated though - GoTG Vol.1 is the only great film he’s ever made. The others are just alright.

@lacerz yeah, I remember when everyone wanted a Left Behind style expansion for Ish when the first game came out.
Re: The Last of Us 2 Will Be Split Across Two or More Seasons for TV Adaptation
@JSnow2 I’d be pretty annoyed if they stretched part 2 into three seasons after rushing through (and doing a disservice to) part 1.
I do wonder if I’ll enjoy season 2 more though because I’m not as invested in Pascal’s portrayal of Joel on the show.
Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Finale - A Highlight Reel of Your Favourite Story
@Pikki it does seem that way sadly but then they did that gratuitous tendril kiss in episode 2, which you’d think would be even more beneath them.
Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Finale - A Highlight Reel of Your Favourite Story
@AdamantiumPriest TWD had some low points but it’s still in another league compared to this imo.
When TWD was on top form, it blew every aspect of this show out of the water.
Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Finale - A Highlight Reel of Your Favourite Story
@Shions_Glasses there was no urgency or desperation in Pascals face. They made him look like a school shooter or something, rather than a person desperately trying to save someone he loves.
